I'm fucking losing it
Jon, basically: eye daddy, could u kill this bug for me?
The Beholding, proud of their kid: anything for u, bby.
As Melanie said later "Snoop God's Favorite Kid"
the ceasless watcher's special little boy
I mean John is the MVP the the Dread powers, him and Magnus, those two actually helped them the most
The Beholding loves his kid
Jon can have a little bit of smiting, as a treat.
I love how Martin's immediate reaction to seeing Jon smite not-Sasha is "is the merry-go-round safe to go on now??"
@Lucinda Gomez we all do
@Lucinda Gomez I definitely do
@@tyhbyfjnOng Jon deserves some fun
How to throw Jon in rage mode: Mention Sasha, threaten Martin. You knew better Not!Sasha.
When it mentioned Sasha I knew it was fucked.
The only way I could have got worse is if they mentioned tim
I love that even now he's still so protective of Sasha, and her memory, and so angry at the Not Them for killing her. That change in his voice was POWERFUL
im sorry nothing is better than jon insisting hes not adorable last episode then talking about how he likes marry-go-rounds this episode.
Yes perfect
"I was in a weird place."
Add in martin's sassiness going up after the end of the world and you got something we can't help but enjoy
Yeeees.
@@toastghost9145a strange place certainly
Martin sounded wayyyy too excited about Jon murdering someone lol
I mean, it’s the apocalypse. I think Martin’s earned a little murder, as a treat. 😉
>Someone
>Implying
lol
"someone" is a strong term. more like he dismantled a weapon, destroyed a torture chamber, or at least damaged it.
@@TheNitpickChick hello! how are you doing after mag 200! (this is my new favourite pastime now)
@@vanessa2603__ OOF my comment hurts me now! 😫
I didn’t mean it like that, Martin! I DIDN’T MEAN IT LIKE THAT!!! 😭😭😭
But yeah the finale was absolutely amazing, but it came for my very soul and I’m still not over it. lol 🥲
"That's weird" Martin says in response to a monster saying he doesn't know why he doesn't hate poetry anymore while they walk beside a carousel of swapping identities and torment.
At first I was like "checks out. what's your point?"
Like I was legitimately so confused for a couple of seconds that now it's ultra-hilarious.
I was expecting Martin to be unnerved by Jon when he killed the NotThem. But his response of just sheer awe was hilarious.
I mean she was talking some really big shit
What's also funny is that in the transcript it says for Martin,
" _Cross between pride and glee - hurrah!_ "
Its biggest mistake was bragging about killing sasha to the one who rules the fear domain currently
@@someoneawesome8717
It was like "Ooh look at me I can't hurt you because you're touched by other powers and am actively bragging about murdering your friend"
What were they expecting?
such a contrast to how others reacted to Jon's powers in S4. I'm really glad he has Martin by his side now T_T they're just so good for each other
I really love how the music goes wonky as soon as Not!Sasha realises its mistake. It's such a great way to convey its enormous sense of "UH-OH".
this show is so well written overall (obviously) but i think this is one of the most impressive examples of the range of jonathan’s writing skills
HONESTLY!!! His writing is SO COOL!!!
@@zoekirk8767 it makes me sad how good it is, I want to act it so badly 😅
I like how Martin doesn’t react to Jon’s most powerful ability thus far with horror, but with “that’s fucking sick dude” energy
Thats my reaction too
I mean the world is a horror show and this creature took a dear friend and has been using her face and voice to rub it into their faces when not trying to kill them. Frankly even for Martin there are only so many fucks to give.
Martin is LIVING for all of Jon’s new archivist powers lmao
Ikr?! Finally somebody appreciates the fine things in life!
The girl squad can go eff themselves with their toxic "eH, mUrdeRInG iS bAd" attitude.
i mean i think we all are
Unlike Not!Shasha
Jon must be great at staring contests
Also I'm gonna show this statement if I'm ever asked to explain why I love the stranger so much
stare too long and you might no longer have the eyes to do it
Doesn't take much to win a contest against a pile of ash, I bet.
I’ve always wondered if you could befriend the beholding by giving it eye drops.
I like to imagine after the change he just doesn't blink. like at all.
Martin wanting to ride the ghostly merry-go-round after watching Jon murder a cryptid with his eye-of-terror powers is a mood and a half
-notshasha threatens them
-jon: "no"
-obliterates her with the gaze of the fear god
The Unknowing must seem like an easy summer day compared to this.
I never thought I'd say this but I miss the clowns
@@someoneawesome8717 ikr they seem so chill compared to this hell
I was afraid Martin would br shocked after the murder but he was as excited as I was and I love it
Yes Martin is just helpless
So uh when is Jon gonna release a rap album
LMAO
Well fyi it isn’t rap but you should check out The Mechanisms
@DoorToRiver I did, and it was amazing! I was obsessed for a hot minute with it 😄 thanks for reminding me
season 1 Jon: idk sounds fake, also Martin ur annoying
season 2 Jon: trust no one! I don't need sleep, I need answers!
season 3 Jon: must! stop! the! apocalypse!
season 4 Jon: everybody hates me, I miss Martin, also it's my fault Tim is dead
season 5 Jon: viva la apocalype, Martin, watch this: *kills Not!Them because she threatened Martin*
Season 5 Johm: Ceaseless Watcher lay your gaze upon this thing I dont like
i feel like that was less about threatening martin and more about sasha everytime someone talked shit about sasha it did not end well for them
@@catdn7011That's what I thought too
@@catdn7011 i think it's both. but not!them gloating about killing sasha was the last drop
Funny how Jon's among the only beings who can't get away with saying 'I dont know'
He doesn't know why he's OK with poetry now! I feel like Martin should get some kind of prize for discovering this.
You knew Jon gets snappy whenever you mention Sasha, you had it coming a mile away. That was so cool!
Dudes. This is literally my favourite episode ever. By a long shot. No joke.
- Was it a good poem?
- I don’t know!
You don't know? YOU DON'T KNOW?!
Yes. Yes, it was a good poem, Martin. It was a great fucking poem. And you should absolutely listen to the tape, because otherwise I can't imagine how sad and empty your existance will be.
Holy shit. This was powerful. Like, really powerful. The delivery absolutely sells it. I've been listening to the last act of Gunpowder Tim vs The Moon Kaiser for a week now, non-stop, and I can confirm w/o hesitation that Jonny's poetry reading slash rapping skills are nothing short of divine.
Jon going into a feat of rage and murdering the absolute crap out of Not!Sasha in Sasha's memory is iconic. He is the ultimate soft boi. "Never been adorable"? Bitch please.
Martin's reaction to unholy Cyclops-style lazer-murder that has just transpired: /laughs in amusement as if Jon has just chugged an entire barrel of beer at a fraternity party/ Ho-ho-ho, my boy good man sir, that was really hot, kay, just saying. You wanna talk about it? No? That's cool, that's cool. So you wanna jump on that big ol' wooden horse and ride into the sunset while you play that poetry tape for me and we maybe possibly make out violently?
Honestly, same, Martin. Same.
This comment makes me feel extremely validated for adoring this episode so much.
I think this comment validates my decision to not relisten to this podcast on Spotify because look at this *community*.
I hurt smiling so much and giggling like a little girl sitting alone in the kitchen and reading this
the transcript: *has commas for breaths*
former choir boy jonny: nah
edit: also that was dope as fuck! call me a static-soundscaping nerd but i loved that.
as a choir kid, yup lmao
Loved the episode, absolutely adoring the season in general so far with the interactions between Jon and Martin feeling so natural considering the world’s current state. Jon gets a little murder, y’know, as a treat. HOWEVER is anyone going to mention the patron “Is The End Looking For Any Sexy New Avatars” because that’s a mood and a half
The key of the carousel music changed from minor to major when Not!Sasha went. What an incredible detail.
Jon CANNOT say he isn't adorable and then the next episode say he thinks merry go rounds are thrilling
Jon: Pathetic.
Not-Sasha: Not as pathetic as your little friend as I ate her life.
Jon: *Okay. You're dead now.*
Now that I think about it: So Nik, who played the Calliope, was part of this horror circus and one day he just left because he felt like it and got himself a nice family and chilled?? And the circus was like "ok whatever" ?????
Or did I miss something
Best i can tell was that the circus didn’t really have an endgame yet at that point. So the individual members had some freedom, hence the couriers breaking off for a while
Jon: uses his terrifying powers to obliterate the monster
Martin: Whoa! Cool!
I actually hope Elias is satisfied by the outcome because I feel like it would ruin his character if he just said 'fuck go back'
Do you care about spoilers?
Bastard's last words were "I don't want to die" and I was just there like "you pathetic little shit"
@@someoneawesome8717 nooooo. Not my Elias. He went out like a chump fr?
@@Catglittercrafts not even killed by paranormal means. Stabbed to death
You know, I don’t remember where, but I’ve seen or heard that line “Ceaseless Watcher, turn your gaze upon this wretched thing” before. I’m glad I finally know where it’s from and boy is it a great line in context
I had a visCERAL reaction to Jon's 'I'm still Hannah!', good God
Can you imagine a PvP horror version of tag based on this statement? People play as the Faceless Things, casing down identities as a horde, then whoever gets the final hit gets the identity, maybe a few Perks representing who they used to be, and a few seconds of invincibility before they're the Prey instead.
Who the hell wrote a slam poetry session for a statement? Was it you sasha?
Not!Sasha
Love that i had no context for the "ceaseless watched, turn your gaze upon this wretched thing" until I listened to this show, and just got a burst of mania at finding out that *this* is where the phrase comes from.
This poetry is on another plane of existence
My ears hurt, if you are reading this before waching, turn your volume down around 18:20
Your doing the lords work good sir
Thanks
I wish I saw your comment in time
Martin demanding "Well was it a good poem?!" is soul cleansing .
god i love the spiral of the poetry
Very pleasing that they brought back the music from the Unknowing
17:45 the way Jon says "pathetic" changed something in me
I know damn well that Jon doesn’t hate poetry anymore because Martin does it
I cannot believe I am about to be up-to-date with this series!!! It's thrilling and makes me sad to know we near the end.
when jon killed not!them i was like "oh poor martin" but nah he was weirdly excited about it.
this one and "upon the stair" are hands down my fav episodes
Hey Alex! Didn´t know you had actual sponsor.
"without her is the marry go round still..?" W-was he trying to see if they could ride the marry go round for fun??? was that wat he was gonna ask?
Jon: * sigh * *Your face is not your face is not your face-*
Me: Woah
When I was thinking "wow, Jon is saved yet again by someone else and lucky timing, I wonder if he'll be able to stand up for himself by the end of the series" during the season 2 ending I could have never expected this
It took an apocalypse for us to get these cute moments between John and Martin
This is probably one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. Jonny is just showing off, at this point, both in how well he can write and how many WORDS HE CAN SPEAK IN ONE FREAKING BREATH--
The end of this one is competing for the "hottest moment in Magnus archives" with Daisy's own encounter with the stranger being the top contender. I wonder why the Stranger makes the characters do the coolest things?
The episode where Martin watches his boyfriend being an evil elder monster killer and figures out something new about himself
One of my favorite aspects of this season is how much Jon and Martin just sound like a COUPLE. Not even in an overtly cute or sweet way (which they also do and i also love), but in the just...very mundane little discussions they're somehow having, even here. The cadence of their conversations carries such a casual closeness. Like when they were talking about poetry. That's like, a conversation my fiance and I would have while walking through the grocery store lol
*Me, worried that Martin is going to react to Jon with horror:*
*Martin:* That was so sick 😍😍😍
it’s my head canon that Jon went on a merry go round when his nan died, because she used to take him on it when he was a kid
Jon and Martin casually talking and walking through a fear apocalypse is like a horror getaway for couples.
Man. Jon is getting good at banishing horrors.
How is this completely different from any other statement and still somehow totally on brand and absolutely not out of place
yes! i love episodes about the stranger, they're so abstract and horrifyingly fun!! show martin the spooky poetry im sure he'll love it
Does this mean, exposing those eldritch horrors for what they are is the way to destroy them? It would make a lot of sense when you think about it. Rationalizing your fears, turning the spotlight on their pathetic, sad or ridiculous origins. Like seeing a monster's claws moving in front of your window during a nightly storm, only to find out it was the bending tree next to your house once the sun rises.🤔
I remember when I first listened to this episode in my car when it was released. I had to pull over and just sit there, slack jawed at the writing of the statement. This one is written fantastically.
The feeling of finally catching up to present day
oh now this episode was viscerally terrifying thanks johnny
awawaugh roomy Martin TwT ahh, the hugs he must give! lowkey jealous of Jon now
Now the only thing I can think about is John riding a merry-go-round and, honestly, I'm not angry about it! And to add extra fun to the picture, he's also wearing a cute carnival hat while doing so
I love how far Marin has come with his fears. Like he's still afraid and voices that but he has so much more courage, especially when it comes to Jon's powers. Working at the Archives through so many trials and tribulations really toughened him up, made him braver.
I like to think he's also putting on a brave face for Jon, because Jon both helps with that fear and needs Martin's support.
This is genuinely my favorite episode, just for the writing alone. The poem is bananas, the reintroduction of Not Her is horrible, and Martin and Jon are still somehow apocalyptically adorable.
If someone wanted Jon dead, could they just have him read a statement with the letter "a" repeated so many times he runs out of air before he's done?
This ending had been my absolute favorite moment so far. Fuck yes John!
as a lit student, the statement was insane quality poetry. im transfixed by it
god the creepy circus music gives me traumatic flashbacks to season 3
Not!Sasha literally *dying* from being percieved is actually a mood
and abstract poetry with background armageddon circus music gotta be one of my favorite genders
love how they managed to keep the "statement per episode" structure by Archivist absorbing the vibes and spitting them at the nearest recorder
The writing in this episode was superb! Really shows the range and creativity of our dearest Jonny ;) I loved the poem, and I _adored_ hearing Jon obliterate Not!Sasha for insulting Sasha and threatening Martin. We love a near-omnipotent Archivist.
i love this melodramatic 16 minute slant rhyme to distorted carousel music 🎠🕯️
When you're such an evil cruel being that Martin's immediate reaction is "oh nice"
Honestly this one was so damn good. The writing style of the statement creates and and imposes on the listener what it probably feels like to BE on that merry go round, and that’s the point for all of them but this one does it exceptionally well.
It’s basically slam poetry but the tempo at which it’s read just adds to the unease so well. I have no goddamn idea what he was talking about or what actually happened and welp, that’s the Stranger for you!
Very impressive
Can we mention just how well-delivered the statement was. I mean, my God, I can't imagine how many takes that was.
I could see Jon's voice actor having great potential for villain roles
This episode was straight fire
Listened to this episode probably 10 times now. Jon killing the Not-Sasha still gives me shivers. Amazing work
This episode : *starts with strange music*
Me : OH DAMN it's the CIRCUS !
This episode : It's actually a merry-go-round.
Me : Oh.
This episode : *talks about things going around and losing minds and names and stuff*
Me : So this is the Spiral domain, right ?
This episode : The Stranger is full of poetry.
Me : Damn.
Thank for the nightmare fuel!
Yep I wont be sleeping for a while
It did it's job then
It feels like I'm the only one who heard the conversation at the beginning as though it was almost about Jon showing Martin his bits....
Lol I can't unhear that now. Hahaha, John is a monster in more then once sense then now I suppose *wiggles eyebrows*
lmfaoooooo
Wtf where's the holy water?!!??! Jon is ace! for the love of Klaus!!!!!
The world revolving...
Anyone else think Jon was lowkey about to ask Martin on a carasoul date
Damn old John o getting smite powers
Did Jon just do a bad ass move!?
I saw someone call the S5 statements apocalyptic slam poetry and... They were right
Gods I love this episode. That poem is just *chef kiss*
They have to go through all the fears...the Flesh world or whatever can't come slowly enough. Rather I'd just skip it, thank you
rap god Jon
"poems yay!" "No Martin! Poem bad!"
“What did you say?”
*faster faster intensifies*
I thought he was gonna say "Just keep dancing" instead of "Just keep running" and get BoJack Horseman flashbacks
I love that Martin's reaction to Jon's new power isn't panic or fear it's just "Holy shit you smote her that was cool as hell." Not Them really shouldn't have mentioned Sasha.
The poem of the Stranger was cool too. It's a little weird that the Statement of the Fear of Unknown is Structured in a Poem.
“Ceaseless Watcher! I choose you!”
Jon obliterating NotSasha is honestly kind of terrifying because part of his lines there was (something along the lines of) "You feel the fear you inflicted upon others. You _understand it."_ while the NotThem cries. I'm interpreting this line as Jon doing what Elias did to Martin. He engraved the fear of what they did to their victims, _forced_ them to feel the *raw terror* they've dealt on others deeply into their soul.
Then-as far as I can tell-he had the _sky_ turn its gaze to her, making her last few seconds ones of violently destructive fear, guilt, shame, terror, and awareness. Awareness that she has The Eye's _attention._
I may be happy that she is destroyed but... could you imagine inflicting as much pain as she did and then _experiencing all of it in a moment?_
You guys have had me hooked for a while now, but this new world....I am honestly blown away with how incredible it is. I've played D&D for a few years now in a home campaign, and have toyed with the idea of making a horror campaign setting. But honestly, this world? This....existence? It could totally be its own table-top game.
The players write up the story of a human life, whatever that means to them. You could even throw an added multiverse twist into it, make that life into any genre of human creativity, so long as it's human. Hand that to the DM, who then decides which realm of terror they could conceivably fall into when reality fractures and this new form of existence takes hold. Then, they forget that past. They know they know how to do things unique to them, but not how they know. They know terror. And they each awake within that terror, still gripped, but conscious of it now; conscious that the world is no longer what it was, that it has not always been terror, but the specifics of what it had been were just out of grasp. It had just been different. They each make their way through their terrors, to meet within this space that does not exist, changed somehow, stronger for it, though unsure of what that could mean. They meet, expect to fight, perhaps they do, perhaps they don't, but suddenly there's a tape recorder recording. A dinosaur from a time from.....somewhen else, but it was there and it was......listening? Had it always been there? Along with it a tape that says play me, which contains a monologue from the DM leaving bread crumbs in monologue form like this, leading somewhere.
I could see the game basically being the DM trying to push the players along the path of becoming the Avatar of their terrors, while the players job is to eventually try to put reality back how it was, all the while remembering more and more about who they were, and changing more and more into something else. It'd be complex, but could be soooo much fun. I'm just saying, if y'all take this and run with it I want in 😂😂😂
I think World of Darkness has your number.
The stranger's realm is just Mr. Bones' Wild Ride
Yall I physically flinched when she died holy-
I'm in public i look crazzzzy 😭
Martin after Jon destroys Not!Sasha: Well, mark me down as scared AND h*rny!
