This is a discussion topic video about the eighth generation of videogame consoles. This will be part two of my four part mini-series. This will be the Nintendo Wii U and what I think the future may hold for it.
Love rewatching this series it's a time capsule
adam is actually very smart business wise, i am surprised he is not a high ranking suit in sony,nintendo.....etc
Embracing The Madness Appreciated.
I agree! I like his very sober views basically on anything related to gaming. If I become one day a successful guy then you are my man Adam.
+Peter Černuška
TurboCMinusMinus he wasn’t predicting anything he was just giving them ideas
Wii U was a fighter, for sure. The fact that so much of its library was put on the Switch speaks to just how many good games were on it. And it's the best way to play Wii games.
Today as of February 7, 2023 Nintendo has sold over 120 million units of the Switch. The Wii U was a commercial failure, but it paved the way for the Switch by trying something different than its competitors. Sometimes a flop will put you on top.
I love/loved my Wii. I never bought this (the only Nintendo I didn't), I didn't know it was a separate thing, plus I wasn't really playing attention to games at the time. I wish I had have purchased it. If only for completion purposes.
Adam I was bothered by this thought I had. What if Nintendo released the wii u thinking the seventh generation was going to last longer. What if Nintendo originally thought of the wii u as a wii pro or not a full on successor.
I think the Wii u is a bastion to the classic console, overshadowed by the juggernaut which is the PS4 I feel like 10 years from now it will be regarded as a cult classic similar to the GameCube and Dreamcast which were overlooked thanks to then juggernaut PS2. I've got a Wii U and I love it to bits it's got that classic console vibe. Its that's saying you never appreciate something till it's gone.
I'm inclined to agree.
I was making a prediction how we would view the Wii U 10 years from now in retrospect. You clearly don't understand my initial statement.
I sold my wii and bought the wiiU, used; 6 months after it launched.
I loved it, however I also had to agree with what other gamers were saying about it's faults which are the game pad, low storage capacity, terrible marketing on Nintendo's part and so on.
That being said, the games were really fun and I did use the gamepad to control my TV and I used the screen switch feature on it so my GF, who is now my wife could watch TV.
That 1 feature was a lifesaver!
Playing on the gamepad without the TV isn't just for kids.... rather it's for families... I love playing Nintendo while others watch TV :) The Wii U is nearly perfect for our house, and with a couple other games it would be as close to perfect as possible. These games would include a couple shooter games, more sports titles, and a good racing simulator like Gran Turismo..... If Nintendo makes another generation of consoles and others don't, then I think they'll get more 3rd party games.... I've purchased 2 Wii U consoles, one for the neighbors. If they make a bundle with the new Zelda next year, and drop the price even a little, I'll buy 2 more....
I really enjoy watching the whole series of videos! learning a great deal, thanks!!
Matt Roe Thanks for watching!
I have the pro controller and the gamepad. its great to have two different options and ways of gaming instead of one. At least I give Nintendo credit for trying something new. Plus I like the fact I can use Wii Motes and play my library of Wii games as well as Virtual consoles if I do so want to.
All in all Wii-U is a really good console and I have no problem with it. Plus my other gaming methods are PC as PS4.
good vid Adam Koralik
Thanks for watching!
You always talk a lot of sense mate and I love my wii u and can not argue against anything you said ! I was also someone that could not get into the wii mote and very sad about that as I missed out on some gems ! That said I have since bought some lightgun games and turns out that its awesome for that genre ! I do use the tablet but I am married with a 5 year old so we can mix the tv with gaming and keep everyone happy :-)
Thank you sir.
I'm glad you're getting proper use out of the tablet.
I agree I would also like to see 3DS and even 3D Wii U games have the option of being in 3D as I love the 3D enabled games on my Xbox 350 and my PS3. :)
But yeah the 3DS add on would rock and I would use it since I just got the 3D XL not to long ago. ;)
I think that ds/3ds add on would be amazing.
Anime101 Not happening at this point unfortunately.
Huge Nintendo fan, got wii u day one and have for all of my time having it loved it, and have had no trouble finding games for it. That being said, I agree with some, the gamepad is necessary for the console, like wiimote for wii or touch screen for DS. I also have always wanted a DSplayer for it, and I'm glad you know that ninty will always make consoles as long as there is a ninty.
8 years latter...
Maybe the Wii U is ok
18 years latter...
WII U IS THE BEST
+Michael Salvo Thanks!
I love the wii u I still haven't got an xbox one or ps4 been playing zelda and mario a lot and I too enjoy the pro controller over the gamepad
MY GOD! A 3DS add on would make it an instant purchase for me. Imagine playing SMT games on the Wii U!!! SMT IV ON THE Wii U? FUCK YES! Besides its possible that Nintendo might make this, if the Vita TV ends up being a success for Sony, which i plan to buy once it officially comes to the US. Good video Adam!
Thank you thank you.
well they are thinking of porting ds games to vc
AdamKoralik Like the game cube add on with gameboy games? if yes a great idea
Harry Sibia well they made a gameboy vc
Harry Sibia
Completely different. Virtual Console means buying a fully digital version of the games and playing it on a sort-of-emulator thing on the system. It certainly won't be anywhere near as good as actually inserting your pre-existing GBA cartridge into a GameCube. Virtual Console is unlikely to ever be a driving force behind Wii U. Hardly anyone used it on the original Wii (again due to the casual audience who couldn't be bothered learning about it)
The off tv play is not just for kids...it is very useful for most gamers (most gamers have partners). When my boyfriend wants to watch Madmen or Adventure time I can continue playing WindWaker HD on the tablet :)
I had a similar experience with my wife wanting to watch Greys Anatomy.
I aint going back to a regular controller! I simply refuse to! the gamepad is awesome!
If you already own a gamepad, you wouldn't have to.
ZombiU was compatible with the Pro Controller. Don't know whether it came out at launch in the U.S. but here in Germany there was even a ZombiU-bundle.
DUDE! an addon to play 3ds games on the wii u would be gold! i hope they go with that!
If I'm right, I've heard they sell the game pad separately in Japan but you can only register one per console
Wow i love this video you are like the only person who doesnt just recommend nintendo go 3rd party or develop for mobile platforms. This advice is helpful and you are actually educated when you talk. you sir have earned a subscriber.
Thank you sir, I appreciate that.
Oh my god, nice shirt Adam! And an interesting (and enjoyable) set of videos of the eighth gen consoles, I might add!
Thank you sir.
They're not going to jump ship on the gamepad. The gamepad is that one feature that I think the entire console was built around, and it's the one thing (besides exclusive games) that make the Wii U stand out from its competition, giving it a "reason" for people to buy it. They're pretty much married to the features it provides now, and ditching it would take away the console's uniqueness. Also, it's still a $100 "boat" that a few million consumers bought, using your "don't jump the boat" logic.
And as a gamer, I can recall countless incidents where the off-screen feature came in handy (me being part of a family of four).
Making a separate Wii U version without the gamepad and just with the pro controller would still be a very smart thing to do, a step in the right direction, so to say. Keep in mind that is not "jumping ship".
Then is Nentendo going to keep making games that require the gamepad? If they do, customers without a gamepad won't be able to play them, and there are already plenty of games like that, like Zombie U and Nintendo Land. Those games are practically unplayable without the gamepad, and some of the systems non-gaming features require it, like the web browser.
And if they stop making games that require it, a lot of people would feel let down, like they wasted money on something they need to play just a few games (I know I would).
sonicdoesfrontflips Yes. Are you somewhat afraid to acknowledge that it's possible to make a game that supports both the touch gamepad and a normal controller? Is that such an impossible concept to you?
Most games that come out on wii u these days support both controllers, so that's a blatantly obvious possibility. But there are still games that require the gamepad.
I doubt the developers would go back to rework and patch games to support other controllers, because in Nintendo Land's case at least, it would make a totally different game, and what would it cost them to do this? Would the revenue really make these costs worth it? I don't think so.
And why would Nintendo sell a console that can't play some of the games that have been designed for it? That would be stupid. It would shave off an extra $100 or so from the price, but it would also deprive it from one of its most unique selling points. And the resources they spend designing this new model, marketing it and finding ways to be sure no consumers or developers get screwed over would be better spent just designing more games, IMO. That's what they're best at, after all.
And make sure you know what Miyamoto's been up to before you tell me they're no longer designing more games specifically for the gamepad.
sonicdoesfrontflips Seriously, what's wrong with your perception of context?
"And make sure you know what Miyamoto's been up to before you tell me they're no longer designing more games specifically for the gamepad."
*I never even fucking implied that.*
I really hope someone at nintendo sees this video. Great video as always Adam!
Thank you sir.
Glad nintendo ported some of the games to the switch, saved me buying a Wii U
So close on the date there Adam! You sure do know the industry well.
I am perfectly fine with the Wii U not getting multi-platform games. I play Nintendo consoles for their exclusives.
Do you remember the name of your Gamepad case or where you got it? Thanks.

AdamKoralik Thanks for the link.
Hey Adam. Where did you get your game-pad case? It looks really nice.
Best Buy.

I am actually doing a small write up for a video on what Nintendo can do to save the Wii U, One of the things is dropping the Gamepad as a requirement and packing the system with a Pro Controller, this allowing the system to receive a massive price cut to severely undercut the PS4 and Xbone.
Yep, I agree. I mentioned that in the video actually.
I also do a point for a more mature IP by Nintendo or a 2nd party developer...and hint that Nintendo should buy Capcom. Doing more of a media center thing by updating the system to play BDs and DVDs (The drive in the Wii U is a BD drive...it just cant play BDs) and incorporating Plex.
Then after that, get Microsoft to drop Kinect out of the Xbox 720. Why do these companies insist on bundling gimmicks?
***** My guess is they wouldn't want to pay for the licensing of Blu-Ray movies.
well they licensed the tech, just not the encryption stuff and codecs, like they did with DVDs with the Gamecube and Wii.
A friend of mine has been staying over here for a few days and he brought his Wii U. In just a few days, I've been having more fun with my Wii U than with my Xbox One. This doesn't mean I don't like my Xbox One, just that I really REALLY want a Wii U now.
Hey Adam, since you don't support digital gaming, do you not download any games on your phone?
I do not.
Sup Adam, I am really enjoying your vids. I am a little stuck in which system to pick up. Wii U or PS4. I have always been a Nintendo fan since SNES days and really enjoy their first person titles. However with the recent talk of the NX, the pretty bad E3 conference and the lack of 3rd party (Yes i like sports games) makes me wonder should i pick up a Wii U over a PS4. I would love to buy both but unfortunately i am a broke college student and can not do that at this moment. If i go ahead and get a PS4 over a wii u would it be worth it in the long run to miss out on great Nintendo first party titles such as 3d world, mario kart 8, smash 4, splatoon, etc... Been confused about a week now. Thanks Adam! :)
first party*
Daveion King Well, I've had more fun with the Wii U. But honestly, it doesn't have much of a future ahead of it.
I suggest getting on down the road, as there are plenty of must have games on it, but I wouldn't make it a long term investment.
Just curious Adam, what do you think of the sales increase post E3? Do you have high hopes for them or do you think it's just people buying out of hype? I'm really happy that Nintendo is doing alot better with the Wii U now, and I really hope things continue to get better as games like Bayonetta 2, Smash, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Starfox, and the new Legend of Zelda come out.. Hopefully it'll help bring back third parties are truly breathe some much needed support into the console as I really want to see this console succeed as I've had a great experience with my Wii U.
Also, pretty excited to hear about the 3DS connectivity announced in smash, which has convinced me to actually buy the 3DS version haha. I really hope they make it good enough to build even more interest in the Wii U for those who lack one, though. I hope it's not something lame.
As for the gamepad.. Nintendo seriously needs to approach this with the mindset they have for the 3DS. That second screen can definitely be used, but they're just cloning the screen as it is now, putting it to waste. Wind Waker HD however used it in a really nice way, and they need to do more of this.
I hope they do well. Though aside from Smash Bros, I don't expect them to see many system sellers. That being said, they're still offering way more exciting experiences than PS4 or XBox One.
Hi Adam, after watching your video i thought i'd get a Wii u. I went into a game store and bought one for $210 U.S. dollars. It was bundled with the walking dead survival instinct. It is the black 32gig, did i get an OK deal?
X-Play Archive Walking Dead? Really? I assume this was a used bundle?
AdamKoralik Yeah, it was. did i get an ok deal though, Also i didn't know they made the walking dad on wii u.
X-Play Archive You sure it was Walking Dead and not Zombie U?
There is a Walking Dead game, but it's dreadful.
Yeah, not a bad deal. But make sure to get some solid titles for it.
AdamKoralik yeah it was walking dead. The store i buy from always throws in a pack in with there systems I bought bayonnta 2. this is just a question regarding the wii u, i saw your unboxing what were those clip things for. Mine didn't have any of them?
X-Play Archive Little legs so the console can be used vertically.
Wii u stopping in 2016 was right on the money haha
Adam were do you get you sale figures? Were ever I look I get different numbers? Like you say it sold 4.3 million and I see places like it says the Wii U has almost sold 6 million. I'm just wondering were you get you sales numbers.
Oh I'm sure they're wrong now. I was basing this on reports issued in early January, which didn't include Christmas numbers (for the Wii U).
Yes Ik there wrong now but what is you main source or are your sources different.
Cheesynachoman I think I showed the chart in the video actually.
ok I will look thanks :)
How many home consoles and handhelds has Mariokart been on so far
13:00 im guessing that nintendo isnt riding the ship, instead they are going to a new platform with the whole NX thingy
I just pluged up the wii u and it has someones information on it., this person downloaded games. If i delete there information can i still use the games?
X-Play Archive If their account is still on there, you can use it to get their games. If you change accounts, it won't work.
AdamKoralikk i made my own mii, if i download anything will it register under that persons account, because i am worried that somehow i'll get into trouble with nintendo.
X-Play Archive Nintendo's account system kind of sucks, the games are tied to the console and account. So, the original owner really should have wiped it first. As they didn't, it's yours now.
Short answer, no you'll be fine.
AdamKoralik ok, my last question is, if i set up my own nitnedo eshop account, and then i download games will it go to the other persons credit card. Thanks again for answering.
X-Play Archive Assuming you add a new card, it'll be on yours. Though if you create a new eShop account, whatever games they downloaded will no longer work.
You made some great points, although I do have to say, the PS4 and PS Vita, aren't at all like the Wii U, the concept is similar, but the execution is widely different, Nintendo achieves the Wii U gamepad's 60FPS and minimal lag by building a wireless chip-set designed for it, the PS4 and Vita on the other hand, just use regular wireless connections, both systems connect to each-other through a router, which on the face of things doesn't seem like a bad idea, until you actually try it. The huge problem, is the delay, it's enormous, to the extent where there is noticeable input lag on the Vita, but that isn't the only issue, the Vita also limits ALL games to 30FPS due to the heavy data streams, which causes MORE input lag, for most games, input lag doesn't matter, but for 60FPS twitch shooters, it's unbearable, not to mention 30FPS bothers a lot of people.
There is one last thing, the Vita isn't bundled with every PS4 and is an entire system by itself, which gives developers no reason to spend extra time supporting it when developing PS4 games, whereas with the Wii U, it's a part of the console and every single Wii U owner has it, meaning supporting the gamepad is a more worthwhile investment for developers as compared to developing for an accessory only some have and very few will use. It's the same thing with Xbox Smartglass, they tried to add the ability to use tablets as live companions, but it didn't work out because no developers wanted to spend time on it and it eventually fell into obscurity.
I believe if Nintendo didn't bundle the gamepad with the system that they would have run intro the same issues as Microsoft and Sony, which in turn, would have just made the Wii U an under-powered next gen system with no real benefits over the other systems.
Sorry for the essay, just wanted to share my thoughts.
Thanks.
1: I don't own a Vita, I'm basing my claims on what Sony said they intend for it.
2: Obviously I'm aware that the Vita is a separate handheld console and isn't bundled with the console.
3: Obviously I understand the logic that if developers know people have it, then they'll take the time to use it. But that doesn't mean anything when they can't sell the console in the first place.
4: Express your thoughts all you like sir.
AdamKoralik Oh I know, I'm just explaining why Sony's intentions are flawed, I don't doubt that you didn't already know that and I'm aware you aren't a handheld fan, I just felt like explaining in depth why Sony are doing it wrong and that if they intend on copying the Wii U outright, they need to put some more effort in developing the tech and put more effort into pushing the Vita as an accessory as-well as it's own handheld, I wanted the Vita to be like the Wii U, but after using it, it really did show how much effort Nintendo put into developing the Gamepad.
nintendo NX being talked about for reveal in 2016, an watching these with retrospect you've been pretty spot on with your predictions, called it on the 1 terrabyte XBO an Ps4 too
Thoms Yang Thanks.
I agree, a 3ds + wii u functionality would be great if they brought back. As did the wii did with ds and gamecube with gameboy.
I will agree that the Wii Remote is not a very comfortable controller, and the Wii U's controllers are a refreshing change (I've been using the Pro Controller a lot with NewSMB U and Donkey Kong, and it's awesome. I haven't had to recharge it yet, and I've owned it for two months).
I wholly agree with you on this though. You make some excellent points. I do like this console, and I think your take on what they should do (get third party, mature exclusives, bring out their own franchises, etc.) is really right on the money. They've got Sega with Sonic: Lost World, and the just-announced Sonic Boom as well. Not to mention, they've secured Bayonetta 2 as a Wii U exclusive, so that's also a start, and it's coming this year. They've now got Donkey Kong, Mario Kart 8 is coming later, Smash Bros., Bayonetta 2, X, and Sonic Boom.
I don't hate the Wii like you do, but I do find myself liking the Wii U more. I tend to actually turn it on more than I do my original Wii, the controller is far better, and while the graphics are underpowered on paper, visually they don't really look THAT much "worse" than the other two platforms because of the law of diminishing returns. Mario Kart 8 is stylized really nicely, so I do like the visuals I'm seeing. They don't look like absolute shit on my HDTV.
I imagine this will be like another GameCube in terms of sales, and in terms of the fact that I'll end up liking it more than the Wii.
How much better would the Wii u have done if the pro controller came with the console instead of the game pad thing and if none of the games required it? It might've been nintendo's time to shine back in the 8th generation, well maybe, I know the Wii u isn't as powerful as the base ps4 or xbox one but it is quite a bit more powerful than the xbox 360 and ps3 isn't it?
I own a wii u and I'm actually quite happy with it. I got it at launch and it's been slow going, but the library has gotten better to the point where there's more good games that I want than I have money to get them with or time to play. That's all I can really ask for out of the library. (And homebrewed so I can play a whole lot more from other systems) I don't want to shell out for a ps4 or Xbox one at least for a while, too expensive and not enough titles I'd like yet. But if I had one of the others the wii u would be a pretty hard sell. And you pretty much need an external hard drive (unless you're Adam) if you want to download games. Which adds more to the cost. Idk who's gonna be buying this thing except kids, but I can say I have a lot of fun with it.
Do you think it's worth to get now that Smash is out and the 2015 lineup looks solid?
Here's a video I did about it recently, see what you think: ua-cam.com/video/7ARtdqYB4_g/v-deo.html
Thanks. Just discovered your channel and like your videos a lot.
george georallidis
Thanks for watching!
You know watching this video convinced me to buy a wii u.
I'm glad you liked it.
i have been thinking about buying a wii u for a while, the problem is that i dont got enough money. and im thinking between a gaming pc and a wii u.. what should i buy?
I also have two questions. It's been a few years now, and they haven't came out with a new Metroid game yet? Or Megaman? Or The next Spiderman game?
What's going on here? Wheres all the games? Their company has always been about the games. Where are they?
Oh, and is the WII U backwards compatible?
Doua Yang Spider-Man gets plenty of games.
Nintendo not releasing more Metroid, yeah...you'd have to ask them.
Capcom not releasing a new Mega Man has been an issue for YEARS. So much that the creator left Capcom to make a spiritual sequel called Mighty Number 9.
With the Wii? Yes.
did you ever try batman arkham city for the wii u it wasn't all that bad
do you think the wii u is another dreamcast
I have an idea for a wii u game... I live a short drive from nintendo of america... how do I get them to listen?
+FroztiProductions Tell them that you are NOT a gamer and have no interest in third party titles.
Why?
Nintendo doesn't give a crap about "gamers" or third party developers. They are arrogant and out of touch with the modern gaming world. They will not listen to your suggestions.
What if I'm a successful business man.
***** Why? Are you Bill Gates? Donald Trump? Richard Branson? lol
Your sarcasm at some points is outstanding.
I have a masters degree in sarcasm.
What's that case thing on the gamepad called?
Official Gamer Essentials Kit for Wii U.
You lost me at "problems come from the Wii". The Wii U's problems come from itself, not the original Wii. The Wii U targets a completely different audience, and a casual audience isn't going to like a console designed for non-casual gamers.
I explained in great detail what that means in my Wii recap video, you're free to watch that if you like.
But I stand by what I said, the Wii U's problems come from the Wii.
I think of the Wii U as a neat little experiment. What we know is that Nintendo know their mistakes so their next console SHOULD be pretty damn awesome.
i really doubt nintendo is going to drop the game pad if anything they make it a bit cheaper by taking features out. i completely agree with your idea for a 3ds add on.
i think the wii u is a warm up to a potential console/handheld machine maybe something a la vita tv, something you can plug to your tv and bring with you too.
I think this Wii U game pad could really revolutionize console game play. Like, if bioshock was on Wii U, the machine hacking system could really use the game pad in a cool way. Or if there is a bomb defusing mission on a certain game, the game pad could be used for that. These are very simple ideas, but imagine what else it could be used for other than maps or a health/magic bar. ..
I agree, but for the most part it's not used properly.
purchased a Wii U a couple weeks ago yes I know I'm extremely late to the party. but I was looking for something different I already have an Xbox One and I only currently have three games for it. I already have 7 games for the Wii U plus I have purchased some more games from the Virtual Console. I personally like the GamePad because it's different but that's just my opinion. I'm excited to see the reveal of the NX but I will not by one right away I want to make sure I get the us out of the Wii U at least for the first year. I am also conflicted about whether or not Nintendo needs third party support. on one hand I do think it would be nice but on the other hand how many systems do I need that will play Grand Theft Auto 5 and Madden like I said I already have an Xbox One for those games.
zombie u was a pro controller compatible game at the start (was in the zombiu starter pack included)
I always saw it as Sony/Microsoft being the same, with Nintendo doing their own thing. Of you one a Sony/Microsoft, you don't need the other one. I got a Xbox360 and a Wii. Just bought a Switch and I'll be looking to see if the new xbx is worth it.
i love my wii u and i really like the gamepad, pro controller more. but i do like thought of playing all my wii u games like rayman legends and sonic lost world with the pro controller
I have an idea there should be to packages you could get one that comes with a game that uses pro controller and one that comes with a game only compatible with the game pad
I bought a Wii U because I'm a huge Legend of Zelda fan, so naturally I had to get the collector's edition. I bought a PS4 last spring and then sold it back last fall. Why? Because I kept looking for a game to play on it and kept looking at the upcoming games list and couldn't find a reason to keep it. There was one game I liked on the system - Raymond Legends. Meanwhile, I have 3 games for my Wii U, all of which I love (also exclusives). There are more games I'd like to get for my Wii U (all exclusives), but they still cost full price. Pre-owned isn't that much cheaper either. Although, the system I play most these days is my PC.
great summary of the Wii U so far. i hope it picks up some speed, cos i do see it as my console of choice for the next gen, but i wont be getting one for a while yet..
Thank you sir.
My Wii u game pad case looks just like yours. Mine is just blue at the top and is made by nerf
I think a 3DS addon for the WiiU would do ridiculously well, especially since UA-camrs and Twitcher players are spending up to $300 for a 3DS capture card, a 3DS addon might be a cheaper more viable option for people if they already own a WiiU. It might also interest people who don't own a WiiU or 3DS, it might be an incentive to get a WiiU. So now people can either buy a 3DS and enjoy those games, or buy a WiiU with the 3DS player and enjoy the best of both worlds.
Is the Wii U more powerfull than the Xbox 360 and PS3? much more?
More, yes, much more...not really.
AdamKoralik So, its more powerful, but not that much.
Nintendo needs to hire you on the help save them business wise! I like you am a big Sega Dreamcast fan but like most retro systems. my step son and I have not upgraded from my 360 and his PS3 other then we did put our wii into retirement and got the WiiU and I'd say its my favorite but that's just due to my luv for the 2D style Mario games! keep up the great work and I hope to see new Dreamcast videos soon!!!! ever think of doing a video on getting the dreamcast back online with the new DreamPi setup? I have yet to donit but I'm buying the equipment now and trying to find the DreamPi program/image.
Hmmm…a 3DS add on...that does sound interesting.
AdamKoralik Do you think Nintendo should re-introduce (kind of) the white Wii U and bundle it with the Pro controller and maybe Mario 3D world and have the price at $300 ish Australian dollars?
They sell brand new gamepads at EB games in australia
Hey Adam liked your videos! In my opinion, the games that benefits the most from the gamepad is Monster Hunter U and batman Arkham city! Especially batman, the game totally feels much more awesome with the gamepad.
Thank you for watching.
Now Nintendo has DS games on the virtual console so it turns out they liked your idea lol
What are your thoughts of sonic lost world Adam?
I like it. It's not amazing, but it's enjoyable. Worth picking up if you have a Wii U.
AdamKoralik
Yeah I have it already - it's actually the only reason I picked up a wii U - and I'm now really glad I did as I love the console! I got a PS4 on launch day and the wii U litterally a few days before, I love them both but the wii U is just a fun console to own!
Maybe the Gamepad could be only included in the Deluxe version.
Oh great miyamoto, may the community great you well, may Nintendo live to see the beginning and end of gaming and may you save the game industry yet again when Xbox and PlayStation fall.
I hope Nintendo can at least tackle every big franchise they have to offer for the Wii U , because I agree with you fully about the lifespan of this thing Adam.
Does Nintendo think we won't buy a Metroid/Star Fox/F-Zero/ for the Wii U?
I fucking hope not , because those can be really awesome.
10:52 hey, i am from the future
I don't think they should drop the GamePad. Developers should be encourage it to use in interesting ways. But I do think they should have the Pro Controller included with every system. Nintendo does local multiplayer the best (I think) and will push the social aspect more. Also more games like Monster Hunter and the upcoming SSB that have versions for the WiiU and the 3DS (3DS add-on not needed) because chances are that most people that bought a WiiU already have a 3DS. That could either be used for local multiplayer or a seamless transition between mobile and at home gaming.
Wow, you only had like 10 games at this point? You sure have gotten a lot Wii U games since then!
Good video Adam. Also good points regarding the Wii U, etc. I'll be honest, I got one just this last week and I actually really like the GamePad as a controller. Yeah it's a touch unwieldy for games like New Super Mario Bros. U, but it's actually not a half bad controller for what you get. The HDMI cable is really high quality as well, and it isn't a generic HDMI cable, which is wonderful. I really hope that there's only maybe a $50 price cut next for the Wii U because the HDMI cable, while it isn't necessarily a major selling point, is actually a nice quality HDMI cable and it completes the theming of the cables. I've even tried games like NES Remix (which is actually quite nice for a digital-only game), and I'm already used to the GamePad for the game experiences we've gotten already.
As far as your idea for a '3DS TV' accessory for the Wii U, it's a great idea, but I don't know how 99.9% of those games would upscale to a 1080p TV unless Nintendo did some serious under-the-hood magic. Great idea on paper, not sure Nintendo would nail it in the execution however. But, if it was a $50 accessory for the Wii U that would allow for people to record 3DS games without buying black-market 3DSes that have been modded for video capture? That would be huge. So I'm with you on the idea, I'm just hopeful the execution is on point for that sort of system-saving accessory.
Regarding the 3DS add-on, that's an excellent point. I think we'd have to accept it running at a lower resolution. Which wouldn't bother me much.
***** that was (unfortunately) exactly the kind of capture card I was talking about as a way NOT to go. A legit way to play 3DS games on a TV would be a killer app for the Wii U
No, I'm just interested in seeing competition, which almost always drags prices down.
Some responses to what you said as a Wii U owner.
The Gamepad has to be bundled to set it as a standard for developers. Though not all of them take advantage of it it would be far worse had it been optional. Removing it also takes away the selling point of the Wii U and really drops its value. Without it, the Wii U is just an under-powered console with the only selling point being that it's from Nintendo and will have Nintendo IPs.
Selling it alone is also pointless. There's simply no compelling reason to buy this thing as no games take advantage of it well enough. Off-screen play wouldn't be worth it either, the gamepad would reasonably cost say $80 but for a bit more you could buy a 1080P 21 inch monitor. Even if it were for sale right now and someone got another gamepad they'd find it becomes functionally useless when they have two on. 60 FPS drops to 30 FPS when the Wii U has to render for two gamepads. Maybe a slow party game can use it but otherwise it's not going to work.
As for the DS add on idea, Nintendo can't reasonably do it well. Aside from it going way off from their philosophy about mobile gaming, the stretch on a 3DS game would make it look terrible. What they could do and have, is announce they would be looking to put DS games onto the gamepad.
For the price the Wii U is cheap enough. The white was for sale for $150 in August from Target. How amazing is that for a current gen console? Even compared to last gen consoles that's an amazing price. Big retailers like Walmart had the white version selling at $200. Now in 2014 price points are even lower. A deluxe Wind Waker bundle at Chapters for $210 and even Nintendo is selling refurbished Black versions of the console at $220.
Onto the games the Wii U really shines as a budget console. Outside of first party games which are usually $50, most other games can be had at $20 and lower. Again Walmart sold Nintendo Land, Black Ops II, Assassin's Creed III, etc for $10. Recently I bought Zombie U and AC3 from Bestbuy for $10 each. I own most of the big third party games on the Wii U and the most expensive one was Mass Effect 3 that costed about $23.
From my viewpoint Nintendo has the Wii U as the budget console of this generation. There's so much value to be had with it. All they have to do now is convey that message.
Some responses to your responses:
1: Thank you for watching.
2: I know the logic of keeping it there for developers, the problem is this model requires that the console be successful, it is not. At this point it's a game of cutting their losses. Like the PS3 was to Sony.
3: Exactly, no games take advantage of it properly, yet it's their adding expense on to the console.
4: I don't pretend to know the technical ins and outs of achieving this, but it worked for the Game Boy.
5: Target's sale was to close inventory at a great personal loss to them. Nintendo can't make a profit on moves like that.
6: This I agree with.
7: I want you to understand I LIKE the Wii U. I really do. But one must acknowledge the flaws in order to make things better for the company who made it.

Thanks for the response.
4. It worked for the gameboy because the stretch on the SD TVs wouldn't be as extreme as it is on today's FHD TVs. Nintendo could do it but it just wouldn't look good.
5. Target's sale aside other retailers had comparable sales as I mentioned. Even if Target were actually clearing out Wii U's it doesn't make sense for them to do more drastic sales at later dates which they have. If anyone actually wanted a Wii U they could easily get it for under $250.
7. I like the Wii U as well but as any owner with any kind of tech savvy one could see how lacking the Wii U is after a short amount of time.
What you said does make sense. If Nintendo wanted to salvage the system they could very well appeal to nostalgia of many other console owners and sell them on a low costing Wii U at somewhere around $150 or even lower. As a budget system or second system the Wii U could survive and be profitable but that would only rub early adopters the wrong way. I feel a bit annoyed at the deals that are available now and that's with buying a Wii U at under $200; I can only imagine how launch day Wii U owners feel. That's the audience that matters the most too because without them what kind of fanbase does Nintendo actually have?
As for 2016 it'll be an announcement for a new handheld by Nintendo that would likely be able to connect to the TV to tie both types of console gaming together. Nintendo has hinted about this after mentioning the 3DS is at an end hardware wise.
When infamous second son comes out i suggest it cause the infamous series has never disapointed...
well the turbo express was truly the first hand held that you can play the actual games from the turbo grafx 16
I think it would be great to hear you opinion on the topic of Sega ever doing another console. A sort of why or why not Sega should pursue consoles again. I love the Dreamcast and Sega back in the day and would love it if they did return to the world of consoles but I don't think it is feasible for them. Thanks!
Thanks, but Sega will never make another console.
By the way, love the video series. Keep up the good work man.
AviddGeek Thank you.
Well done video. Though I love the gamepad, it's definitely a smart move to make it optional. When I picked up the new DKC game the other day, it became clear Nintendo is planning on doing this. There was no gamepad functionality in that game; I think a clear sign that your prediction may be fruitful. An expanded audience would be great.
Thank you for understanding my point. The plethora of people who assume I just "hate the gamepad" is astounding.
I don't play portable games unless I can do so on a TV, like with the GB Player for the GC. If Nintendo somehow made DS and 3DS games playable on the U, I think you are right; it will be beneficial for the console. However, I wonder if it is possible, and if Nintendo even recognizes that it would be a good move.
"You just go ahead... and do that". Haha.
If the wii u could play 3ds games and ds I'd definitely pick one up but right now I kinda just want to wait for the next generation
Fancy ever a review of the OUYA? :D :D
I love Nintendo too and grew up with them, in fact if I didn't get a super Nintendo when I did I don't think I'd be into gaming as much as I am now.
I stuck with Nintendo up to the Gamecube, I had a Wii but rarely used it because I couldn't stand the motion controls. I do hope nintendo get some sense and start releasing games like Starfox, Fzero, Metroid etc. I do hope they remove the touch pad amd drop the price because if you ask me at its current price point its not worth it.
I totally agree with the 3ds add on. I REALLY want them to do it but I doubt they will :(
Got my Wii U yesterday, sold my old phone for a £105 Amazon voucher so I got a Wii U with "Lego City Undercover" & I only paid £102 out of my own money. I also own a PS4.
Regardless of how the sales numbers turn out, I LOVE the Wii U. It tends to get even more use than the PS4 right now. It has everything I've wanted since I was disappointed by the Wii ; great HD Nintendo games and no forced motion controls! The Wii U is a great console imho.
Though I may be a bit biased as the GameCube is perhaps my favorite console of all time, and the Wii U really brings me back to it in a way.
Dude, I hope your right. NIntendo is still rich. If they dug deep and pumped out quality 1st and 2nd party titles and have an extremely affordable console...that could work.
I hope so too, I don't want to see Nintendo go anywhere.
