Nintendo made a couple interesting announcements. First about mobile gaming, and their deal with DENA. Their second about some new console hardware, codename NX. Let's talk about it.
The first 60 Seconds: You just described ReviewTechUSA in a Nutshell.
I made a video against ReviewTechUSA, but it was about his feud with Big Cheese.
The Ninja-X³ That shit was staged, he did that fake drama for traffic. That's how sensationalism works!
GastonAsston Ah, I had no idea.
GastonAsston I really dont think so lol
GastonAsston I wish UA-cam had a block feature on the recommended section I see his videos because I watch a lot of tech and gaming videos, his shit always pops up. it's like god damn if I wanted to listed to his mama getting fucked then I'd throw her back in the pig pen myself. As for the Wii U... Eh I'm fine with consoles dying off mainly because then everyone will have to get a PC and I'll finally be able to play with all my friends without investing $400 for each console. then I can complain about how much each 40k figure is going up in price this year...
RIP WiiU, 2012-2016. It will definately be one of those hidden gems in the history of consoles, especially when you consider that most WiiU games are focused on single-player/local play, and generally come out finished, not needing patches just to make the games playable. I'd imagine that games like Destiny and AC Unity will basically become paperwaights after the PS4/XBone servers go down, because they either rely on online servers(Destiny), or are completely broken without patches(Unity).
Last Big Game for Past Nintendo Systems:
NES - Kirby's Adventure
SNES - Kirby's Dreamland 3
N64 - Kirby and the Crystal Shards
GCN - ಠ_ಠ
Wii - Kirby's Return to Dreamland
My guess is that the last big Wii-U game is going to be a Kirby Platformer.
0_o
Mind=blown
The last Nintendo game for the NES was Wario's Woods in 1994.
Last BIG game.
+Phil S FINALLY! Someone acknowledges it!
I would like Nintendo to once again "accidentally" release hardware far superior to that of the PS4 and ONE.
Oh me too.. But we all know Nintendo like to be cheap "sometimes"
It would be weird if it WASN'T superior to hardware from 2013.
Amen
***** they always released hardware superior or equal to the competition until the wii
ThePreciseClimber ps4 and x1 have hardware from 2011
Weird. I have met a lot of people who thought the Wii was great in regards to stuff like Xenoblade, Brawl, MKWii, NSMB, Last Story, RE4 Wii Edition, Mario Galaxies 1&2, Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime 3, Warioware, there really is a lot to enjoy about the Wii in true honestness. Plus I give it a pass due to making it easier to play Gamecube games at a nicer definition. That is, without paying up copious amounts of money for the 'Cube cables which in the end would only make them look marginally better anyway compared to what a half decent Wii cord does.
did iwata just do a Saturn....like Bernie Stolar saying "the Saturn is not our future".
i think this could hurt Wii U sales.... oh well RIP 2012 - 2015 Wii U such a great system and no one cared to play it........
this is what happens when you have really bad marketing
That's a very good point.
To be fair the Wii u isn't working out, why keep dragging a dead horse along.
To be fair, Nintendo did a lot of things that has hurt the company over the years. It's just now biting them in the ass. Especially with how they have this crappy Nintendo Creators Program for youtube and the fact that they're against gamers streaming gameplay on twitch because Reggie doesn't think it would be fun for the consumer.
The Ninja-X³ yes i agree with you nintendo has fucked up over the years .... not supporting CD's on the N64, not putting CD and DVD playback in the systems, using mini CDs on gamecube, not letting players chat in online games the list goes on... tho i gotta say about lets plays fuck them it's nintendo's owned IP they can do with them what they want... i am sick of all this lets play bullshit hey go get a real job..... T___T
Alph Charlie All I can say is that not letting their fans do "let's play" is burning bridges between Nintendo and their fanbase. If the consumer is unhappy with Nintendo, chances are that he or she will go to the competition. Though I myself never stream gameplay footage on youtube because my videos are focused on other things. Still if I were Nintendo, I would think about giving what the consumer wants. What's good for the consumer, is good for the company, not the other way around.
Dear Adam. How the hell can Nintendo expect the NX to become successful? They want to release this device in the middle of a new generation. The XBO and PS4 generation has already been established, so third party developers won`t care. And if third party developers don`t care, then it`s a first party device only, meaning that only Nintendo fanboys will buy it. That`s pretty much like the Wii U. Am I really missing something?
One thing that saved the WiiU is the lack of quality games on Sony/Microsoft platforms . These platforms are overcrowded with annualized overhyped franchises that are there to squise money without offering a product that meets basic quality standards. For example, would you rather play Assassins Creed Unity on PS4 or Smash Bros on WiiU?
Unity.....
Yeah but PS4/XB1 has tons of third party games that wren't coming to Wii U plus future exclusives.
IMAN7THRYLOS Only thing saving Nintendo is the 3DS handheld. 51.5m units sold compared to 9.3m units of the WiiU.
Definately the handheld businees saved once again Nintendo from super big problems. Too bad that Sony gave up on Vita.
For everyone stating that the Dreamcast did better than the Wii U, your forgetting the fact that the Dreamcast did NOT last from 1999-2001, it was originally released, in Japan, in 1998 and was supported until its last first-party SEGA game was released in 2003.
Dreamcast Globally from Fall 1998 - Fall 2003 (5 years) sold 10.5 million units.
Wii U Globally from Fall 2012 - March 2015 (2 years and 3 months) sold 9.3 million units.
Its NOT the same thing! XD
You're half right, I admit I should have mentioned when the Japanese launch was. However, it only sold about 800,000 units between then and the date I mentioned.
Second, the death date was March 2001. Sega didn't produce more hardware beyond that point. They continued to sell games for a bit, but not consoles.
AdamKoralik Also 10.5 million units is the offical number of Dreamcast systems sold, what is the official number of Wii Us sold so far this year?
Nintendo Stated that the Wii U sold 9.2 million units by Dec 31, 2014 and you stated that it was currently at 9.3 million units to date so the Wii U has only sold 100k units in the last 2 and a half months of 2015?
Ness32nsider That seems to be the case.
Don't get me wrong, I do think the Wii U will ultimately sell more units than the Dreamcast. It's just...interesting that it still hasn't.
AdamKoralik No offense, but that makes no sense. XD Nintendo has already stated that the Wii U had very good sales coming off of the holiday season for both the months of January and February and 50k a month gloabally is not good sales in anyone's eyes and would have gotten trolled to death by everyone on the Internet by now, so I highly doubt that the Wii U is currently (officially) at 9.3 million units sold globally. Something here doesn't add up :P
Ness32nsider What doesn't add up here is as of yet incomplete sales numbers. Unfortunately, neither of us can do anything about that. We have to work off what we know.
13:50 Nailed it
WHY are you trolling ? If Iwata was going to say a REPLACEMENT for the Wii-U, then he would've said that to avoid this nonsense called SPECULATION. It's going to be a CELL PHONE, and the Wii-U will still be around.
Tiviat If you think I'm trolling, then you need a dictionary.
The wiiu is a lesson in what can happen when a good product has dreadful marketing. Selfishly, l hope they don't drop it too soon as I really enjoy using it. Just dropping the wii name will be a huge boost. If only they had dropped it for the wiiu. Good to see thoughful vids on the topic like this.
***** Glad to see that someone else realized this. I think they were trying to play along with the sequential Playstation 1-4 designations (same with Xbox) and it failed miserably. Even calling it 'CAFE' would've been an improvement.
***** this is nintendo's ps3 they got cocky and it bit them in the ass
***** they tried to ride off the success of the wii this is why
***** Nintendo knows what happens if you say that the current console is not their future
And now, six years later (!), the Switch is on track to be Nintendo's best selling console of all time and potentially the best selling console of all time period.
It definitely is a new console. Nintendo even stated that the Wii U wasn't getting anymore big Mario games, and they were putting the next one on their new console. And with Miyamoto saying they were waiting for the perfect controller to work with F Zero, my bet is on a new console. With that being said, they REALLY need to market the s*** out of it, because I've only seen like 2 commercials for the Wii U, both of which were pretty poor, the rest were just game related. And bring the third parties on board.
Dreamcast > Wii U, confirmed! Dreamcast 4 life, yo.
Indeed.
***** 90% of the dreamcast's library was fantastic. The WIi U has plenty o' shovelware. Plus, the Dreamcast outsold the Wii U. :) Wii U is done and Nintendo is already looking to abandon/replace it.
Revillution.com In total fairness, the Wii U has a minimum of two years left before it goes away completely. I have to assume it will outsell the Dreamcast in the end. Granted, it will probably take twice as long.
***** I disagree. The Dreamcast is legendary & very well loved. The Wii U is a disaster.
AdamKoralik The Wii U still makes the Dreamcast look successful in comparison.
+ronnor hgih They released the NES Top Loader after the SNES was out. The SNES Jr after the N64 was out, and the Wii Mini after the Wii U was out...
Also, enable replies bud.
awesome video!!
tom newbon
Thanks for watching!
I can't agree with Nintendo releasing a ninth gen console and Sony and Microsoft don't. Think about it, if they do, they it would be be a repeat of the Xbox One announcement only worse. Especially if Nintendo is the only one that puts out a conventional console. Another thing you have to account is. the internet in the states and other part of the world aren't ready for only digital gaming I'd give it another five to ten year before it happens.
***** You act as the next wave of all digital machines is expected soon. It's a given, if I'm right (believe me, I don't want to be), that these launches wouldn't happen for at least another five years. I know Sony and Microsoft were aiming for ten, like they got with the 360 and PS3, but I don't see that being realistic.
AdamKoralik I would just urge caution and wait for the further information in 2016. I agree with much of what you have said though I have a sneaking suspicion that Microsoft might drop out of the race with the next "generation". They might have the money behind them but their management decisions haven't exactly been the brightest and they've unintentionally sabotaged themselves in the past. I also wouldn't be surprised if a Sony full on PlayStation Now streaming service somehow blows up in their face and becomes the next Sega Channel/Sega Net due to a lack powerful enough and reliable internet infrastructure in countries outside of Japan. That's of course assuming Sony doesn't die horribly in the next two years or so. I've had this feeling that the Wii and Wii U were really more of a waiting game and if so this might be the master stroke that causes Nintendo to take ahold of the console industry and possibly third party publishing by the throat once more.
Adam, I respectfully disagree about the Wii. IMO, the Wii's game library has more diversity and unique titles than that of the U (not to mention better third party support), and considering how things are going with the U currently, it is likely to remain that way.
I don't take issue with the games, I take issue with the controller that ruined them.
I bought a Wii U earlier this month and I absolutely love it. My question is do I have the time to get my money out of it before it's swept under the rug in a year or two.
For sure, there are plenty of great games already out, and more to come.
Ok great!
Clash With Epic There's still a lot of upcoming stuff that's gonna be pretty exciting. A new Zelda game, the new Starfox and a whole bunch of indie titles if you're not averse to digital-only.
I wouldn't sweat it considering the fact that Iwata himself stated that the "NX" is currently just a hardware concept and we don't even know if it is even going to be a new home console or not yet. :P
I really do think that people are just jumping the gun for the sake of click bait. XD
Also, you can just play smash 4 for years on end :)
Am I the only one here who thinks "The Nintendo NX" sounds like a cool console name.
Considering that PS Now is bombing hardcore, and bandwidth across the planet is sorely limited, the streaming boxes are a pipe dream. PS5 games could be 100-300GB games, if not more.
They can barely stream dusty old PS3 games let alone PS4 or PS5 games. I mean, can I get on my PS4 and stream Killzone Shadow Fall? Nope, I gotta download the entire game or use a disc.
You sound like the people a decade ago speculating that smart phones and laptops would replace PC's and consoles, just saying!
Streaming doesn't require that kind of memory. It's essentially just sending a video signal, like Netflix.
While I agree bandwidth rates aren't there yet, they will be eventually. And the XBox One/PS4 still have a minimum of four years left.
Uh yeah bandwidth is a measurement of data (memory) transferred over the network haha
You don't want a compressed "HD" game like nasty youtube "HD" video blech
***** Yeah, I'm aware. I'm saying you wouldn't be expected to be able to stream 100-300 GBs of data. I assume it'd be kind of like a live Twitch stream that you can control...and has no lag.
LOL you crack me up man
*****
I personally don't think Nintendo will launch the sucessor of the the wii u at least untill 2017 or even 2018, i think the project NX its most likely to be a new versión of the wii u, maybe an hybrid between home console and handheld that will play the same games that the regular wii u but with some new feature, kind of what the new 3ds is. But who knows, we can justo wait and see.
Greetings from México Adam!.
Hope you you're right, greetings from the US!
+Anthony Krossman Hey Tony, can you enable replies? If you see this, happy early birthday. As for the Panasonic Cube, it's neat, but an item of luxury. Not recommended for actual use.
*****
Sure thing bud.
AdamKoralik honestly i believe the mobile games is going to be kind of like how battlefield has that app that allows you to suport / influence the huge battles. so it say influences stuff.
+David Lodge I'm thinking the opposite.
If I were the president of Nintendo or one of the console makers, and I sat down next to somebody playing angry birds on their phone...I would actually be kind of pissed off that I'm not getting a piece of that pie.
In fact, I would just make sure you're playing an official Nintendo game and I control it so I'm making money off of it.
Handhelds are a testament to that but, we all know Nintendo owns that right now. I seriously don't know if Sony still makes the Vita or not... that's not BS ( I just ordered a Ps4 and I have Fallout4 for it that I waited in midnight launch line with a bunch of douchey kids for it, and MKX...and I can't even open or fucking play it until Xmas)
If someone were to be smart enough, they could possibly do a one off with a major conglomerate like Android or Verizon etc, releasing one specific mobile device that has most phone functionalities but is geared mostly towards gaming.
Adam, I was also hoping for the Wii U to hold out until 2017. I still am hopeful, but I fear you're right. The console is completely underrated and has a ton of great games on it. Hopefully, if this is a new console slated for 2016, Nintendo at least makes an effort to work with third party developers to get them on board.
I love watching your videos....keep up the good work!!!!
Thanks for watching!
This video will help bump you to 50k subs.
Nice video Adam.
Wasn't my goal, but I admit that'd be nice.
Adam - I have said that the Wii U is like Nintendo's Saturn, to which you countered that you see it more like the DC. Do you still think it's still a similar system to the DC, and if not/so, why?
And you're right, Wii U is awesome. Trying to get as many games on the cheap as possible before (I believe) they get grossly overpriced in 5-10 years.
For sure. The GameCube was Nintendo's Saturn.
They made some profit on the WII U nintendo usually launches their hardware 2 years after they announce the codenames, they can squeeze the fifth year out of the WII U. Ultra 64 announced 1994 n64 release 1996, project dolphin announced 1999 gamecube release 2001, project revolution announced 2004 WII released 2006, project cafe announced 2010 WII U released 2012, codemane NX announced 2015 ???? most likely release date 2017.
Vampirerockstar That first statement is not at all true.
They could squeeze a fifth year out, but I doubt they will.
You're following a trend based on successful/moderately successful hardware. The Wii U is...not. If they follow the PS4 or XBox One's model, they'll reveal it, then launch it a few months later. Of course, that's a huge "if".
Also, if you want to get super technical, most of the consoles you listed were announced and release only a year later...in Japan.
AdamKoralik they still have alot of hig profile exclusives like Xenoblade X, devil's third, zelda, fire emblem x shin megani tensei, pokken tourament. I dont want them to release a broken console they have money in bank it won't hurt them to take that year to iron out any issues with the new system. There are rumors of core mario game being developed and metroid game to be reveal at this years E3
Vampirerockstar All games slated for 2015 and 2016, which perfectly falls in line with what I said.
AdamKoralik I'm expecting the system to launch holiday 2017 they wanted to send a message that they are still in the hardware business. We still don't what type of system it is since both the wii u and 3ds will reaching their end cycle by 2017. They'll have more details next year anyway. The wii u was shown of at E3 2011 and launched around world on the holidays of 2012 including japan.
AdamKoralik all those consoles I mentioned japan and north america got released the same year. Europe and the rest of the world only got the n64 and gamecube six months later.
Hopefully the wiiu functions as far as online services isnt dropped completely after the release
I would assume those will remain up until like 2018/2019.
Thats good im very invested in my wiiu and enjoy online play
Great video Adam. I always like your rant/speculation videos!
Those hard numbers on the Dreamcast sales vs WiiU sales were pretty intense.
It is worth noting that the Japanese launch of the Dreamcast was nearly a year earlier, but only sold something like 800,000 units. But, I should have mentioned it.
Thanks for watching!
My money is on "NX" being a Steam-like service for Nintendo's games. They'll offer their own "NX" system, but you'll be able to install the "NX" service on Android, iOS, Windows, Linux.
That would suck so much ass.
its kind of funny to come see these videos years later.
I think the wii u should hear the fans idea they are making games that some fans hate why dont you (nintendo) hear us
Maybe we will help u
It’s super interesting watching these old videos about consoles that weren’t thought of yet and now owning a switch and ps5 it’s just funny to hear you talk about the ps5
I think the Wii U will last 2 to 3 more years,i still didnt get mah Metroid U damn it xD!
I seriously doubt we'll see anything else than the Prime Trilogy on the Wii U.
metalhead9838772 :(
PoopyButt there will a metroid game retro has been working on it they have enough software to complete the 5 year cycle
Vampirerockstar I hope we do get some piece of news about a Metroid game at E3, it would make my day. Unfortunately it doesn't seem likely at this point, but hey, better not to expect anything than to expect something only to be disappointed in the end.
metalhead9838772 nintendo confirmed it themselves that there is metriod game in the works for the wii u and 3ds
+MrDeathSmiles You need to enable replies bud.
I don't know much about that game, but I'll probably pick it up just to support it.
I loved my Wii...until I bought a 360. Then that shit just sat there.
Exactly.
Why both syst have great games I got a ps3 and a wii u
Mr Iwata said they would have more information to share on the nx next year he didn't say it would be released next year so I still think it'll be coming out in 2017
The XBox One and PS4 were both announced in 2013 and released a matter of months later. Nintendo may be following their model.
Fact: Sony stock has tripled in the last 2 years.
I wouldn't bet money on them going bankrupt or getting out of the gaming market. In fact, it's now their main priority.
Fact: They're still losing money hand over fist.
AdamKoralik As are most tech companies preparing for the future ;)
Just found your channel the other day Adam...really love your videos man, especially the generation re-cap videos! Keep up the fine work bro!
+chuck ware Thanks!
I expected a new Nintendo console in 2017 anyway. But I do think the Wii U is great as well. The Gamepad, I like it, it's one of my favourite things with the system and I wish people would stop thinking it's not good or useful.
Nintendo have been giving the system all of their love. It's the third-party developers, mainly the ones in the west that have been killing it. They DON'T wanna make exclusive games. They wanna make as cheap as possible, once a year multiplatform games that can easily be ported over to another console within a few weeks. Not to mention they focus too heavily on mature titles now that they think all kids only play on phones and that no adult could possible wanna play a game without guns and blood. Fuck them all.
+TheRosswise Wouldn't surprise me if you see it on both, like Twilight Princess.
Just came across your page. #1. I just subbed. #2. The Sega Dreamcast is my favorite Sega console of all time and is arguably my most favorite of all time. I was a huge sports gamer at the time and you simply couldnt go wrong with sega sports. The Dreamcast in my eyes OWNED the sports market. The N64 and Dreamcast are my two fav consoles of all time. Great page and im glad I found it.
I'm happy Nintendo is making a new console. But please, for the love of god, don't make it a steam box or any variant where there is no physical media, same for the Xbox and Playstation. Adam made a very good point about digital distribution: you don't own those games you "bought" on Xbox live, PSN, or the Nintendo Market, you're simply renting those games.
Great video Adam as always.. keep up the good work
My thoughts: I think it is great news. It means Nintendo needs retailers to sell the console device. However i think stores don't only want to sell the device but also something that makes customers to come back..this means there will be still physical medium games in (near) future. What are your thoughts about an end of physical medium?
Greetings from Switzerland
The Nintendo switch turns 7 years old tomorrow, seems like time flies by these days
As much as I love Nintendo, the news of Nintendo NX was only pushed to public announcement to secure doubtful stockholders after the Wii U. We love our Wii U and our New 3DSs, and wait anxiously for the next step in gaming.
By your logic of following past trends, I think the NX will be something to connect your PC, Smartphone and Tablet to a Nintendo console you already own as a way to unify the devices and take advantage of the new membership programme they are working on. If not, it's probably the successor to the 3DS and not the Wii U since the 3DS is pretty old already despite getting a new revision, just like what happened with the gameboy color back in the day (1 year after the revision, they released the GBA).
Lots of great points and stuff but i was hoping you may have something to say about the picture with the smart phone, tablet, and pc on one side and wii u and ads on the other. Id love to see a vid where you speculate about maybe it being a hint or something to the function of the NX.
Pretty accurate.
I can't believe that they have barely crested 10 million units and it's 3 years in. Yikes!
Good thing they have the DS family and Amibos.
That is the real lesson for Sega's exit from hardware.
They had one system, no other streams of income. They had multiple failures in a row. The DC didn't tank them. The Saturn, Nomad, Game Gear, 32x, and Sega CD are what killed them.
They actually did amazing work on the DC but they relied too heavily on arcade ports. They were stuck thinking that the normal player wanted coin-op goodness in their homes. Time gates and game overs is not what the non hardcore wanted.
I love my DC (I wish I had kept it). But every good game was a Sega arcade port which were amazing. But arcade games are built to generate token drops. Home is different and Sega's dedicated arcade first software development destroyed them just as much as the history of also ran hardware. They were turning the ship, but too slowly. I love the crazy titles like Shenmue, Seaman, SpaceChannel 5, Soul Calibur. 2k sports was awesome. The SEGA arcade ports were top notch too, but too much, and not modified enough for home market. (Case in point: Sega Rally and Crazy Taxi, good games, but way to tied to the clock to make you put in more money)
This contrasts heavily with N. They got killed by the outcome of the previous generation as well.
The allowed the Wii to be a casual system of motion mini games. Then they named the new system something so close that everyone thinks it's a tablet add-on to the existing thing that they never used past bowling and tennis.
Both of these low selling consoles are good systems. Both can have a great library of games built around them. If you buy the top 25 of each system you would have a great collection. But that only works if you buy at the end of a console cycle and can view the whole system's catalog in retrospect.
I honestly hope Nintendo can get their mojo back in the home based system arena in the next gen, and that Sega further evolves into a high quality software developer.
Time will tell.
People kinda freak out when a console is announced, thinking it's going to discontinue the predecessor. The Wii was announced in 2004, revealed in 2005, and released in 2006. The GBA was announced BEFORE the release of the Gameboy Color, meaning it was in development for a long time.
And yeah, I think you're right in saying that people hate this console now but will praise it in a few years.
2005: You seriously didn't support the Dreamcast?
2010: You seriously didn't support the Gamecube?
2015: You seriously didn't support the Wii?
Man I love the WiiU one of the best consoles I have ever bought. The game nights we have had with Mario Chase on Nintendoland, or Luigi's Mansion on Nintendoland, Mario Kart, pictionary on Game and Wario - WOW. It will go down as a cult classic no doubt.
First of all , your beard is GLORIOUS .
Second , That could be the best T-shirt ever .
Third , I really hope Nintendo push though until 2017 . Specially with their amazing line up this year . I also saw some leaked news about their line in 2016 , which also sound awesome . It would be a huge shame to drop the Wii U now only after it got into momentum , 45K a week according to VGChartz . I know that's not a lot comparing to the PS4 , but it is much better than last year .
I want to say something about the 3rd party support . Or the lack of it rather . I am not sure that sales or power is the only only reasons . Most companies still support the PSVita even though it sells around 8 units a year . I think it is about Nintendo's policy about the digital and streaming market . All digital means not only less cost on the publisher because they do not pay for box art and discs , it also means that they can control the games' prices . Since gamers would pay the same on launch or a year after and they won't be able to buy used . Sony , thou I do love the PS3 very much , and MS already announced that they are going in the "Clouds" . The game developers and publishers want to go with them and leave Nintendo in the ground . Pun intended ...
Thank you sir.
Yeah man, we'll just have to see how it goes.
***** We cannot compare sales wise Nintendo with Sony or even Microsoft, this generation is doomed for Nintendo mainly because 3rd party greedy support. 3rd Party support wants to have full control of games like they do with PS4 and Xbox One, and Nintendo is very protective with their products.
Sony is selling PS4 like water, but their profit will come only from consoles once they do not make games, they have the 3rd party support, but are they making any money out of games like GTA, COD or other major title?
The same with Xbox, and we know that Nintendo is the only company that is making money out of their consoles and out of their games and amiibos, so which one is making more profit?
Lets face it, even if Nintendo launches a New console next Year, and that console is superior than PS4 and Xbox One, 3rd party will continue to not support them and i guess that PS4 will continue to sell more than that new console... It is only my view point.
Marco Pereira Actually, Nintendo is quite proftitable now. And the mobile games move ia going to make them another mountain Foji of money. So, I'm not worried about them. In fact, it's Sony that is bleading money like there's no tomorrow.
You actually have good point about 3rd party developeir/publisher. That's why almost every AAAgame this year was either a buggy miss, or was such a disappoitment. When you have great games like Bayo 2, Wind Waker, Wonderful 101, why would you get the miss that was AC: U or The Crew ??
Let me educate you all:
NX will be announced at E3 2016 but won't release until 2017. This will make sure Metroid Wii U gets the spotlight on release at Christmas 2016.
The NX will use traditional controllers but will also be controlled by the new Nintendo handheld.
Specific games for the NX will need the new handheld to play or the Wii U gamepad (which will be backwards compatible anyway so Wii U games can also be played).
Hey everyone, one of the heads of Nintendo is here!
I will make my own video at the weekend proving my point.
Incidently, when this happens Adam I think you should shave your beard off in appreciation of being told the future.
Grandadgamer I look forward to it sir. Send me a link when it's up.
I plan to trim it, not get rid of it.
Thank you, I will let you know when it is done.
Interesting theory, my video is still being made. Follow me on Twitter if you want to be notified when it is released @grandadgamer
I'm a student and I'm thinking about getting a wii u in may, would you still recommend it at this stage in the wii u's lifespan? Or would it be best to wait for the next nintendo console and get it at a cheaper price later on? Big fan of yours man
I think the Wii U is great and recommend it to everyone, but I can't say with any certainty is have an awesome future ahead of it. It's certainly worth checking out, whether or not you'd keep it at that point is up to you.
Nintendo really killed the Wii U by not working to get third party support, naming it poorly, causing confusion amongst the casual audience and barely advertising it, leaving people saying: 'There's a console after the Wii?'.
I am mostly an Nintendo fan but the Dreamcast is in my top 3 favorite consoles, and to see that the Wii U shares many similarities with it makes me feel I am playing an future "cult classic" when the gamepad is in my hands, amazing console!
Keep these type of vids coming bro. I always watch them all the way through : )
Thank you sir.
I feel like the NX may have backwards compatibility with Wii games but not natively. I'm thinking they may release them digitally as virtual console titles since the system could be powerful enough to emulate them. Though, if that's the case, it will have to have some sort of Wii remote support built in, so I don't know. I can see how that may or may not happen. If it does, I think they may drop sensor bar support altogether to save money and maybe incorporate Wii MotionPlus into all the games instead since it can be used for a pointer without the sensor bar.
Do you think the Wii U is worth the money now or that the later "Slim" model will be better?
No way to know yet.
Just get a refurb Wii U for $200. Easily worth the money imo
I'd be crappier. Buy it now if you WANT it. Or don't wait later than til this x-mas. It might have sales then and many new games will be out but it's up to you. It doesn't need to be "slimmer". Really.
Hi Adam! What do you think of prices of the games? Do you think that the prices will increase dramatically at some time and should I rush out and get as many games as possible now?
I definitely think now is the time to grab Wii U titles on the cheap.
The Nintendo 64s Codename was : PROJECT REALITY . Ultra 64 was meant to be the final products name, but was changed to Nintendo 64 shortly before release.
hi adam I've also got a Sega megadrive asking with ps4 off course but what console will you recommend for retro gaming for nostalgia purpose. .thanks
This idea is so unlike Nintendo, but I'd love to see them make a powerhouse console. Put some hardware into it that (not necessarily blows PS4 & One out of the water but) really gets developers interested. Not sure how viable 4k output at 60fps will be in 1 years time, but it's a really interesting time to put out a new console. With PC gaming leading the way with graphics, plus with virtual reality coming out (Morpheus for PS4), they could very well make a new console and be left in the dust anyways if they don't execute and really attract consumers.
Sony & MS could make new hardware in 5 years time and make this new NX outdated in just 3 years again, leaving Nintendo in quite the predicament.
Very interested to see where gaming goes these next 5 years, it's going to be a trip.
Keep up the great content, Adam!
hey creepy beard man, I love your videos, youre just one of those you tubers that keeps me watching until the end. your channel is extremely informative and one of this those few gaming channel that you can actually learn something from. along with your channel, the angry nerd, the nes punk, metal jesus and lord karnage are the stuff that keep me procrastinating.
+Duke Xander M. Campilan Campilan Thanks for watching dude!
Now in the background i
love how you make your stuff on the shelf neat that remines of me i make everything on my shelf and in my room neat.
Whoa Adam that European Dreamcast during that brief flash when u were telling how it's your favorite console My OCD is going through the roof
Sorry?
So if there won't be a 9th gen so to say will their be a physical gaming market in 10 years, will the $70 n64 games be $4 just because there isn't a market at that point Ik this is all just a theory but it's scary to think there may not be any sort of physical gaming in a few years
Zach Creek It's my assumption that there won't be physical media in the next wave of gaming platforms. Whatever they end up being.
I assume the retro scene will stay the same, for a while anyway.
Adam I dont mean to disregard the topic of this video, but do you plan on talking about the recent shakeup over at Sega? Wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts...
I was waiting for more facts about that to come out. What we know now is that all that really happened is that Sega shut down their San Francisco office and are moving to San Diego. Sonic games (which is about all that they made for consoles by the way) will still get console releases.
Essentially, nothing changes.
I guess I shouldn't hold my breath on Sega's UA-cam channel bringing back 'Free Stuff Friday'' then?
The NX is such an interesting announcement. I would've never believed Nintendo to bow out the Wii U as early as some people are speculating. But at the same time we know next to nothing about this console. I've personally been hoping for it to be a Nintendo Xross (Cross) of some sort, combining the Wii U and 3DS into one machine kinda like the GBA player for the Gamecube. I'm sure people would love to play the 3DS through HDMI upscaler. Most people don't even use the 3D feature anyway! I love the Wii U, so sad it's becoming an under utilized piece of hardware.
These days I'm literally using my Wii to charge my phone via its USB socket. Seriously, that's all I use it for!
My Wii U on the other is getting regular use - As a games console. I love it.
Nintendo always said that they were a hardware maker first and all IP's were there to support the hardware sales. This step is the first step towards a "Sega type" oblivion. may take 10 years but this announcement will be the end of the old Nintendo.
I dont care though, their attitude to UA-camrs and their complete greed has turned me against them. May Mario become as revilved as a character as Sonic
All I can say is that if Nintendo is wise, they'll make the NX something that will launch the (their) industry for another four generations, the same way 3D launched these last four.
If it gets to the point where nobody can make shit profit off a console, I think it'd be cool if they moved to PC. They could have their own digital dist. service, like steam (not really to compete with it as much as coexist with it) and release all the games they've made/helped make throughout their history, and continue to develop new games on powerful hardware. They could probably also make & sell first-party USB controllers to replicate old ones like the gamepad, GCN or N64 controllers, and if they really needed to keep making "new ways to play" they could develop all-new controllers and release new games specifically for them.
They should have a expansion port on the bottom so they can have ad-dons to play older consoles (plus 4 controller ports).
About the end where you were talking about how people will wonder why we didn't support the Wii U. I honestly can TOTALLY see that happening and the Wii U becomes rare and sought after and you, me, and EVERYONE else who currently has a Wii U will be SO glad they do so they don't have to pay like hundreds of dollars to get one.
Start picking up games now, while they're cheap.
I will, once my birthday rolls around in October and then again at Christmas. I don't know if you recognize me from other videos but I have told you before that I'm in 7th grade.
You’re one of the few I’ve ever heard positivity speak of the Wii U. I don’t personally own one but, I think it’s a neat system & would totally purchase one to try given I find one with a decent price.
I think the likelihood that Nintendo is developing a streaming media box is very high. All forms of media (aside from the internet obviously) are trending that way. It makes total sense that Nintendo would want to be in that space. It would over time it would lower their overhead.
Make no mistake I'm not for streaming services, I just think that it makes more sense for Nintendo to do that. One day we are gonna see the end of physical media, no CDs, DVDs, Blu Rays, no game discs, no mini discs, no memory cards/sticks/flash drives or anything like that. Every thing will be connected to the internet, most things through your phone.
Terrible if your a collector or actually like to own what you pay for. That's progress I guess, everything just floating around in some metaphorical "cloud" on servers somewhere.
I miss the 80's.
I appreciate the Wii a lot more now than when it was current. I love my Wii U. I am looking forward to the NX as well.
I personally think, based on the stuff Iwata has been saying and that it would be weird for Nintendo to announce a Wii U Successor before a 3DS Successor, that NX will be a platform and not just a console. Much like how iOS and Android have many different hardware flavors but are all on the same platform we just might see a console with super powerful hardware and a handheld with probably Xbox 360 equivalent graphics running slightly dumbed-down versions of the games, technically speaking.
Part of the deal with Dena is that they will help Nintendo with their new unified account system and online features. This will probably be heavily incorporated into the NX.
Man, if Nintendo does make a new console, I hope they put in super powerful hardware. The AMD R9 290x will be super cheap when the 300 series comes out (it's already fairly cheap, and it'll only go down by 2017 or 2018, which is when I think the new hardware is likely to come out) and it DESTROYS the PS4 and Xbox One in terms of graphical performance.
The Wii was more than a dust collector with us tech-savvy people that knew how to get the HBC on there;)
That being said, totally agree with you on how people will appreciate the console more in the future.
While I certainly don't dispute that the Homebrew Channel makes the Wii less shitty, that's what hackers did for us. Not Nintendo.
I'm 34. I love the Wii U. I used to be into the gray, first person, shooters. I now like playing on my own. The Wii U has original games plus the Virtual Console. Nothing like seeing Zelda, and Mario in HD. I can't wait for the new Zelda, Yoshi, and Metroid games. Nintendo did fuck up calling it the Wii U. I don't blame them for moving on. They screwed up, and they know it. When I have my PlayStation/Xbox fanboy friends over...... They enjoy playing on the Wii. 2 of them bought one after I showed how awesome it is to play.
Thanks for the vid Adam. I agree with most of what you said. I'm with you.... Fuck sports games. They have all been the same since the last decade. Nothing new with them.
I just bought a used WiiU with MonsterHunter, Darksiders2, Tekken, Mario 3D Land and Metroid Triology for 250 Euros and it was my best buy since the N64. The WiiU is heavyly underrated and just suffers the sins of its father, the wii.
I agree completely.
Adam, I have been curious to know your thoughts on all of the crazy rumors lately? Not sure if I believe them, but I love talking video games regardless. Do you see Nintendo producing something really powerful?
I wish the WiiU was called the Nintendo Café. Not only is it better than WiiU, it's also a badass name for a console.
+Adam, I remember a little while back Nintendo announced it was going to release hardware aimed solely at health and fitness. Could that be the Nintendo NX?
I watched this 5 years ago and my mind was being blown hearing about a tiny receiver type PS5. I’m watching this in 2020 now, PS5 is the size of some furniture and my mind is being blown all over again lol
Haha when you talked crap about the Nintendo Wii I was like "WHAT!? How dare you!" but you do have very valid points about it. It really is a dust collector and I think Nintendo made a really stupid decision to stop releasing Wii games AS SOON AS the Wii U launched and shortly after shops stopped stocking them at least here in Tokyo.
Do you think they will release Starfox and Zelda this year or do you think they will push the games back to the next system? Great vid 👍
I assume they'll come out in November/December for the holiday push.
I actually really like when you do videos like these. It's interesting to hear someone else's perspective about the video game console market and what's happening with it. And you're actually a _very_ sharp guy. Everything you say makes perfect sense and you explain your view very well. I also agree with it too.
As far as the Wii U goes, that console always reminded me a lot of the Dreamcast. It has been touted as a pretty bad console by most people, and it has the gamepad with the built-in screen, which resembles the Dreamcast's VMU concept. It's interesting that it actually has done even worse than the Dreamcast. Knowing all this makes me feel glad that I actually supported the Wii U and bought one while it's still relevant, because it really is an awesome console. I always kick myself in the ass for opting for the PS2 instead of the Dreamcast, but I was a stupid kid at that time who didn't know any better. xD
Anyway, I should stop typing before I rant on anymore. x.x Great video as always man!
No prob! ^^
I would like the idea of a console and handheld in one, but I know that will never happen without the handheld limiting the console's power. However, the N3DS has the power of the Wii, so handhelds are getting more powerful. This would probably be considered a gimmick and scare away 3rd party developers though, so they should probably just make a console that is as powerful as it can get with a lot of good launch titles, especially one that truly shows off what the power of their next console can do.
could nx be a phone? and it hooks up to a network connected to new 3ds/wii u. could emulate weak games that you bought (nes thru gba) and then let you monitor/share your custom character for higher powered games like skylanders/hyrule warriors
Okay just to be clear, I am commenting this before I watch the video, but do you say it is a handheld or a home console
^^^
Question Answered
I do acknowledge that possibility, since we don't actually know what it is.
Okay, but I am wondering before I watch the video which one it is. I have not been watching a lot of these types of videos since normally they have been pretty angering, but I like your videos on these types of subjects, so I want to know before I watch
GoldenTriforce
I assume it's a console and address it as such, but I fully admit it could be a handheld both directly to you and in the video. The truth is, no one outside of the heads of Nintendo truly knows.
Yeah. My issue is people like IGN going like "OH WII U IS DEAD NEW HOME CONSOLE IN 2016" and treating it as fact.
GoldenTriforce
I make it very clear in the first 30 seconds I'm against that kind of headline.
Ive thought about it and theyre going to go a slightly different route i think. 3rd party devs have been leaving because of sales and the hardware. Im guessing the NX will be a super wii u, made to compete against the ps4 and xb1 BUT will be backwards compatible with the regular wii u. Next they will treat the regular wiiu as a kid console and allow more kid oriented games on it while the NX will have full 3rd party support by nintendo because they will make it tailored to 3rd party devs. And the fact its b/c (BUT with wiiu only, no wii or gamecube) but since its b/c it will also play the kid games, and the gamepad may become treated as an accessory for this new system, not a must have.
They have been making it so this is why they arent developing an actual new 3ds, but gave an improved version for the meantime. The real 3ds successor will come by 2017/2018, as for the NX it will either come next year or definitely 2017.
As a side note the rumors on a ps4 slim.... well i imagine it will be a digital ONLY system, 1tb no disc drive and pretty portable. The rumors are its a 7x7in console, i mean come on, only way thats possible must be bcz theres no disc drive.
Ugh. I don't want digital consoles. Always-online is already an IMMENSE pain in the ass. I don't want streaming, I don't want multiplayer-only, I just want a fucking box that you put discs in to play the vidya games. Is that really too much to ask for?
AdamKoralik Hi, what do you think to this idea on what the NX will be.
I think it may be a home console with decent power where you use your own mobile phone or tablet along with a Nintendo ad on to convert it into the a controller. When you go outside you take the add on and your phone/tablet and Stream the game directly from your console via your phones internet connection or local wifi. so you can p[lay and console game through your phone anywhere.
You make some good points. It's a shame that the Wii U will be gone soon, but Nintendo need to do it. Hopefully they are talking with developers, whilst they design the NX. Anything, just to get them back on board
Thanks for watching!
Hey Adam my rf cord for my 2600 just broke do I need to buy another one or is there a easy way to hook it up using a modern cheap way
Great vid!!
Thanks for watching!
I think Nintendo announce next year around E3 but will not launch until around easter 2017. They historically announce or showcase hardware well before they actually launch it and I doubt they will feel rushed to do so this time either.
The interesting play here would be if the current generation Amiibos will work on the "NX" or if Nintendo will do the evil corporate thing and make them obsolete just to get fans/addicts to re-buy.
Good points all round, but I disagree with the point about the WiiU's future.
In recent history, Nintendo has always announced a game console a year and a half before its release. For example, Ultra 64 announced 1995, released 1996. Wii announced 2005, released late 2006. WiiU announced 2011, released late 2012. In my opinion, when they announced the NX, I didn't see it as a true announcement, as it was targeted first at the Japanese market, then later delayed for announcement to the American market. I see NX being released late 2017, as I would really dislike having the NX being a flop because it was rushed.
