Gotta say, Vince wearing a plain Hanes t-shirt, shorts, and barefoot pawing through his guitar collection to find cool stuff to show the kids is some next level wholesome dad-energy.
Let me tell you my story about Vince. Over 20 years ago, I was in college and working at the general aviation terminal at the airport, fueling everything from small single engine planes to airliners. One night, we had a private jet come in to pick up folks after a concert. The group was comprised of Vince Gill, Amy Grant, and various band members and associates. I was a big Amy Grant fan, and my girlfriend at the time was a big Vince Gill fan (and got me on board). It was not unusual for us to handle the aviation-related needs of celebrities, but it was unusual for us to have significant interactions with them apart from carrying bags. I was out near the plane as they all unloaded from the carpool, and I was excited to hear Amy say, "Can we take a break here for a minute." They all came inside, she immediately went to the restrooms, and I thought my chance to meet her was gone. Vince was standing there talking with the entourage, and some of us got the nerve to go up and ask him for an autograph. He was extremely kind and relaxed (and much taller than I imagined). He gave me an autograph, and I explained to him how I was a big fan of his wife. Well, she was in there for quite a while, removing makeup or something, and he eventually went over to talk with his colleagues. By the time she came out, it had been a while, and I decided I wouldn't bother them because they would probably be in a hurry to leave. As it happened, at least 20 minutes after I'd mentioned to him that I was a big Amy Grant fan, she finally reappeared, and Vince came back over and took a second to call across the room and say, "Amy, this young man would like to meet you and get an autograph." Everyone kind of looked at me, and as Amy came to talk with me, I'm embarrassed to say that I was a bit tongue-tied (she was remarkably beautiful in real life), and I rambled a bit about myself and my girlfriend. Anyway, she humored my story and was very kind, and gave me an autograph as well. I've never forgotten how kind and down to earth they both were, even late at night after a concert. Good folks...
Neither of them came from music industry families so I think they remember what it’s like to just be a regular person so to speak.
Sinple awesome deadly talent here
A true Lady and gentleman
Great story Justin... thx for sharing
Such humility ....little wonder that Grace and greatness will follow them around
It says a lot when a guitarist will, without a second thought, hand his most prized guitar to someone else to play. Not only that, but Gill is considered one of the best session guitarist out there and he gave to solo to the other guitarist. What an amazing guy.
It wasn’t the same guitar, the prized one didn’t have a cut out, the one he handed ver did.
Yeah, the kid is playing a modern cheaper Martin with a cutaway, not a 42 Martin.
@klingenator @1:08 he has his prized guitar then - video stops, then restarted he hands over a guitar @1:09
Not only is the cut out different, but the darker side is a lighter color.
Took me a second to notice.
Imagine getting to sing while Vince Gill plays guitar for you such an honor
Can we go back to when we all liked each other, you know, before social media?
Wouldn’t that be something? I’m game if you are.

@@TheBarbieJet, I am on both, but I just joined IG, and I’m still getting used to it. I made that reply because like you, I am so damn tired of all the craziness. If we all just took a step back, and took some time to shake the other guys hand, maybe even sit around a fire and sing a few songs, it would sure help to heal this country.
@@TheBarbieJet, I don’t even know how I ended up on that post to be honest. I’m a rock’n’roll music kind of guy, not country, but I do love gospel music, and I really love that song. I have sang it myself many times. That was a beautiful rendition of the song.

I am so sorry you lost your mom at such a young age. I was 14 when I lost my father in an accident and my mom at 35 from cancer. You never stop missing them and you were much younger than I on your mom. She was so young. My heart goes out to you! ❤ I thank God every day for giving me the parents I've had. I wish you blessings....
My condolences to you both. I lost my dad from Covid 2 years ago now, miss him a lot. There are some songs he liked that I can’t even go near as a guitar player myself but love I have the art of playing in my hands still. 🙏🏼
I’m sorry for your losses
Sorry for your loss, I lost my wife to cancer when she was 42 and our son was only 2 1/2. I feel your pain! Some songs really get to me

It's a passion
Not an instance of hesitation to hand over an amazing guitar. Class act.
This woman's voice had tears running from my eyes instantly, what a incredible voice!
When a voice isn't autotuned, you can hear the emotion, and it is wonderful. Anymore, they autotune or pitch correct everything, and all voices sound semi-mechanical, and lacking in emotion. It's so wonderful to hear a real, raw, human voice, loaded with emotion. She has an absolutely wonderful voice, but the sad truth is that if they ran it through autotune, she would sound like everyone else. I can't listen to modern music because it grates on my ears, but I could listen to this over and over. In fact, I have.
This voice is a gift from GOD. Fullstop!!!
@@michelleterblanche5636 As soon as your comment popped up me first thought was her. laughing as I noted it's been six months since I commented . I love how they ask for a guitar and he gave him the one he had.. truely a class act...
I'm pretty sure that was the guy's own guitar, and Vince had been playing it. It wasn't the 1942 vintage guitar Vince pulled out of the drawer at the beginning of the video. (Notice the first guitar didn't have a cutaway, but the second one did.)
Yeah, and its case is in front of that dude.
True I didn't see that still a class act tho...
And it was already tuned.
The editing really fooled me so thanks! I had to watch/pause/replay/repeat several times to see that. I was focusing as if it was uncut 2-camera from 0:22s on but the guitars were obviously different. I didn't notice the cutaway first but the pearl accents on the guest's guitar with the '42 having rosewood or some very different natural accent trim. At the end, dude by him on the couch regrets not bringing his. Welp, I learned a lot from just this comment on youtube, and that is rare these days! haha :D
Regardless of my mistake, isn't it cool that we just do that at all levels? "Lemme try your guitar out if you don't mind". Not sure Eddie Van Halen would but he's...well...he's a jerk.

I love how Vince picks out his guitars based on tones much like a painter picks his oils. It’s amazing. Super talented group.
@metalcavy33. After being married to a bluegrass fanatic for over 35 years (he had 38 banjos & maybe 10-12 guitars) I don't mean to sound condescending but how else would a musician pick his instrument? By looks? And he might want one tone for a soft indoor setting, versus a louder tone for a back veranda jam session, or a hard loud tone for full on outdoor festival. They have an ear for it, and can usually pick out the instrument they want in a very short time.
Legit how guitars work. Haha people laugh at me when I say I own ten guitars. I need them for different things ;)

There are very few celebrities in this world that I even have a desire to meet but Vince is one of them. His earlier music let me tap into emotions I never new were there when I was going through a divorce, almost like he wrote them for me. Thank you for all the incredible music through the years and may God continue to bless one of the coolest guys on the planet.
This was my Grandmother's favorites. It was sung at at both her and my Moms funeral. Thanks for the video

This is how you become a musical soul. My dad, who died in '07 owned that very orange guitar behind Vince, the one on display. We wouldn't sell it if one of us needed a transplant, it's too precious. Anyway, growing up it was great when Mom said to "get things picked up cause we were gonna make music tonight." A random group of musicians came and it was a different evening every single time. My job was to be the coffee girl until it was my turn to sing. Then all too soon it was bedtime. I'd lie in bed listening to that beautiful music for hours.
looks like a Gretsch with a bigsby. You were a lucky girl. No better upbringing than that
@@redrover3259 YES! That's what it is and we still have his old amps, which are the size of a couple small pianos, lol. I do feel very lucky, thanks for understanding that. He put me on a local stage for the first time at age 13. I sang CRYSTAL CHANDELIERS by Charlie Pride, changing the phrase "chosen girl of the social world" to "chosen boy." I remember him teaching me that after I sang the first chorus to "stand back from the mic a little" and "let the band play one." THANKS again for sharing my dad with me!
Thank you for sharing such a neat, meaningful memory. I grew up very musical in my little head and heart, but I never figured out how to go further than my love and appreciation for it. My parents were always too busy to notice or care that I loved music so much. You're so blessed and fortunate to have grown up in a musical family. 🌻🎶🎶
Wow that's awesome Peebles ❤️send your phone number so I can save to my fan database
@@kevincostnerofficial1 WOW! You bet I will, thank you!
He's awesome. And to know he was in Pure Prarie League makes him even cooler!
Hello, how are you doing today? It’s nice to meet you here.
I needed to hear this. I was surfing around just looking at various videos and ran across this video and it hit me in the face and brought me to tears. I remember my Aunt Ellie used to sing this very song in church and was one of my most favorite and cherished memories of her. This made me cry because it was so REAL and soulful. I have done many things in my life that I have regrets for and not seeing her more in later life is one of my BIGGEST regrets. I will see her and my Mom again one day soon. Thank you for posting this!
Hello Jim how are you doing today?
A grown man in tears when she started singing. Amazing video. Props to Vince. Very down to earth.

When Christian music was a bridge straight to Heaven..
Vince is the best ever
I've listened to country all my 85 years & there's noone who can compare to him
There's others who are great like Alan Jackson but Vince is the best
So sorry for infringe on your privacy, Beautiful song. Hello
Hello, how are you doing today? It’s nice to meet you here.
I'm 84 and totally agree with you ..
I worked with a cousin of Vince's and got to go backstage at a couple of his concerts. He is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. My friend, his cousin has since passed away and there were no services for her. Let "How Great Thou Art" ring to heaven for her today. And, thank you Vince!
Nice words Karen , how are you doing ?
I mean this is as raw as music gets, no rehearsal, just right out of the box and beautiful, gives me chills every time I hear it!❤️
Right, no what key are we in, who is playing what, at what tempo, just listening and knowing what to do. Beautiful.
Beautiful voices and gifted good guitar licks as well God bless to all of you
That was so beautiful....God loved it and so did I. Thank you 😊

Hello ma'am I really appreciate your love and support over my dads music career ❤🙏
It's really hard to beat an acoustic guitar played well.

I participated in the Kerrville Folk (now Music) festival for 15 years and it's like this everywhere you look 24 hours a day for weeks. If you like this, you should go. The ones who show up to play on stage get a chance to jam with the talent in the campgrounds. And vice-versa! A lot of talent, lot of heart and spirit to be found if you like songs and guitars. Look it up and go get you some down-home music love.
That was just gorgeous. Wow. ❤
My grandparents funeral song. Can barely see through the tears watching this.
