Let me tell you my story about Vince. Over 20 years ago, I was in college and working at the general aviation terminal at the airport, fueling everything from small single engine planes to airliners. Vince was standing there talking with the entourage, and some of us got the nerve to go up and ask him for an autograph. He was extremely kind and relaxed (and much taller than I imagined). He gave me an autograph, and I explained to him how I was a big fan of his wife. Well, she was in there for quite a while, removing makeup or something, and he eventually went over to talk with his colleagues. By the time she came out, it had been a while, and I decided I wouldn't bother them because they would probably be in a hurry to leave. As it happened, at least 20 minutes after I'd mentioned to him that I was a big Amy Grant fan, she finally reappeared, and Vince came back over and took a second to call across the room and say, "Amy, this young man would like to meet you and get an autograph." I am so sorry you lost your mom at such a young age. I was 14 when I lost my father in an accident and my mom at 35 from cancer. You never stop missing them and you were much younger than I on your mom. She was so young. My heart goes out to you! ❤ I thank God every day for giving me the parents I've had. I don’t talk about it, only with others that were there. I from Columbus Ohio. We have for years had little jam sessions every Saturday morning. The best bluegrass you would hear. One of the guitar players would come every Saturday, and some Saturdays bring his son. It terrified me, but eventually go used to singing with Vince Gill. ❤
Hammerschlägen M Don’t disagree with you at all. I watched Neil Young open for himself with crazy horse in an intimate setting it is still one of my favorite shows of all times. But those days are so few and far between I take what I can get now :-)
This is how you become a musical soul. My dad, who died in '07 owned that very orange guitar behind Vince, the one on display. We wouldn't sell it if one of us needed a transplant, it's too precious. Anyway, growing up it was great when Mom said to "get things picked up cause we were gonna make music tonight." A random group of musicians came and it was a different evening every single time. My job was to be the coffee girl until it was my turn to sing. Then all too soon it was bedtime. I'd lie in bed listening to that beautiful music for hours.

I'm pretty sure that was the guy's own guitar, and Vince had been playing it. It wasn't the 1942 vintage guitar Vince pulled out of the drawer at the beginning of the video. (Notice the first guitar didn't have a cutaway, but the second one did.)
The editing really fooled me so thanks! I had to watch/pause/replay/repeat several times to see that. I was focusing as if it was uncut 2-camera from 0:22s on but the guitars were obviously different. I didn't notice the cutaway first but the pearl accents on the guest's guitar with the '42 having rosewood or some very different natural accent trim. At the end, dude by him on the couch regrets not bringing his. Welp, I learned a lot from just this comment on youtube, and that is rare these days! haha :D Regardless of my mistake, isn't it cool that we just do that at all levels? @metalcavy33. After being married to a bluegrass fanatic for over 35 years (he had 38 banjos & maybe 10-12 guitars) I don't mean to sound condescending but how else would a musician pick his instrument? By looks? And he might want one tone for a soft indoor setting, versus a louder tone for a back veranda jam session, or a hard loud tone for full on outdoor festival. They have an ear for it, and can usually pick out the instrument they want in a very short time.

He's just a regular guy, and I love that about him. Invites them into his home studio and is just wearing shorts and a t-shirt & bare feet. Probably what he's wearing on any given day. So many fake people in music today, it's too bad more people aren't this real.
He let someone else take his prize guitar without hesitation. The one he kept in a drawer. That was his pride and joy and he unhesitatingly let someone use it while he took another one. That is generosity.

They played How Great Thou Art at my mom's funeral in 1986 after she passed from cancer at 44. I was 20. This made me tear up and I think of her every time I hear it. She missed so many things, but I am glad I got to spend my first 20 or so years with her. We miss you mom.
I am so sorry you lost your mom at such a young age. I was 14 when I lost my father in an accident and my mom at 35 from cancer. You never stop missing them and you were much younger than I on your mom. She was so young. My heart goes out to you! ❤ I thank God every day for giving me the parents I've had.

I love how they ask for a guitar and he gave him the one he had.. truely a class act...
I'm pretty sure that was the guy's own guitar, and Vince had been playing it. It wasn't the 1942 vintage guitar Vince pulled out of the drawer at the beginning of the video. (Notice the first guitar didn't have a cutaway, but the second one did.)
Yeah, and its case is in front of that dude.
True I didn't see that still a class act tho...
And it was already tuned.
Welp, I learned a lot from just this comment on youtube, and that is rare these days! haha :D
Regardless of my mistake, isn't it cool that we just do that at all levels? "Lemme try your guitar out if you don't mind". Not sure Eddie Van Halen would but he's...well...he's a jerk.

I love how Vince picks out his guitars based on tones much like a painter picks his oils. It’s amazing. Super talented group.
Legit how guitars work. Haha people laugh at me when I say I own ten guitars. I need them for different things ;)
