Such a cool composition. They're all so on top of their game at this point. Dave's playing is sublime and so confident. Terry is a single-stroke rhythm monster, Colin sounds like he's playing seven instruments simultaneously. And Andy is a wind-up toy! 🥁🤖
Mesmerizing, can’t look away from them. The recording companies at that time were into labels such as punk, new wave, power pop and XTC was none of that. They didn’t dumb it down-and still don’t. Looks like Dave’s mom cut his hair though.
I so miss that French TV program I used to watch in my youth : 100% live bands, during the peak of the post-punk / power pop / early new-wave era. It was called "Chorus", hosted by Antoine de Caunes and the bands performed live at the now demolished Theatre de l'Empire in Paris - and the sound was usually really good ! The absolute oddity about the program was its broadcast time : at mi-day on Sundays (as I recall) !!!
One band I wish I was more aware of in my 1970's/80's youth; regional Victoria/Australia in that period wasn't overly aware of contemporary "Pop" beyond the industry Top 100... Anyway, thanks to the uploader and all involved...
That solo!!!! Dave Gregory is easily one of the most overlooked guitarists of all time.
this band could have been the biggest act in the world, all of them are masters on their instruments
I couldn't agree more!!!
Mr. Gregory's solo starts out deceptively simple but soon shows what a virtuoso he is.
Truly
Nailed it exactly as he did on the album version. Although he didn't write songs, Dave was an essential contributor to XTC's brilliance.
One of the best solos ever by anyone. short but essential
When I heard this song first I was like wtf that sounds so baaa- Oh wow
Agreed. Dave kills it here.
one day, swindon will have a statue of them
Darn shame this truly great band stopped playing live, they had such great chemistry.

Andy is always on fire, he's the kind of person you'd love to go on the piss with
Classic pop from one of Britain's finest most influential bands
Colin is such a good bassist.
What a band, Andy partridge and Colin moulding are 2 of the best songwriters ever and as for their playing, completely incredible
Me dancing and giving the finger to the world.
This version is pure class .. and much, much more valuable than the studio one (which is already great on its own) .. XTC's lives are immense
I love the Coat of Many Cupboards version too.
Andy was such a good looking chap back then
Ethan Plum Still is now ;) lol
He still good looking, he is aging well!
Really? Brilliant musician but he always looks completely insane and scary to me.
They all seem to retain their boyish looks for a long time.
@@blackmore4Yeah, not sure I'd call Andy necessarily beautiful. He always had this pretty weird, intense, British Vicar energy to him.
This goes so hard

And, as always, Partridge looks terrifying. Like he's escaped from somewhere.
i miss this band
There"s lots of energy in this band, that's why I have always liked them.

incredible band, really !!

A group that somehow peaked multiple times. This is one.
Brilliant! Thank you so much! Such a brilliant song, with an extraordinary solo.
Boy, these guys were really, really, really good!
their performances are always so tight! love it!
Happy birthday to you Andy 🥳.
Infectious melodies and vocals ♪♪♪♪ ♥
What a fantastic band!!!
Amazing performance! Shame about Dave's quiff.
Andy partridge, River phoenix's favorite human

Excellent
YESSSS
"We weren't a very good group live." - Andy Partridge. Cobblers.
This is very Orwellian...
Now I lay me down to sleep
Knowing that your lenses peep
And now I eat my daily bread
And into the tape spool I'll be fed
Brillants!
Good into the future
I always thought Andy Partridge looked a bit like River Phoenix when he was younger.
And river was big fan of him :) I watched almost all of xtc video on UA-cam because of river.
Good
Not underrated ang more... The first new wave punk album, imo.... Love MUMMER.
Id like to have a party with everyone in this comment thread
