My daughter's FAVORITE song when she was three. Whirled around the room like a helicopter, really. I hated children's music (especially Barney!) so special thanks to XTC for filling in in that department.
One of the most underrated pop (?) groups of ALL TIME!! I also think Andy Partridge is a CRIMINALLY underrated singer / songwriter. Finally, Colin's bass playing was always perfection. ❤. Bless you for uploading this!!
The lead guitarist could not have fit in more perfectly in this band. Replacing the keyboardist turned out to be a great move. Partridge and Moulding amazing as always, and the same thing could be said about the drummer, perfect for XTC, great band. Drums and Wires remains my favorite album of all time it’s so unique and enchanting to me the different combination of musical styles are mixed together perfectly, yet still sounding like their whole own XTC universe. Their Music is fantastic, so damn good.
Thank you for summing it up brilliantly! I usually end up like a blathering idiot when it comes to putting into words just how much I adore that album and THIS BAND.
Well they had to replace the keyboardist as he quit. If only Thomas Dolby had tried to join at that point and not a year earlier, he would have gotten in, and then what? Barry Andrews only quit because he wanted to write more songs. His later work with Shriekback shows a very interesting style that perhaps doesn't fit in later XTC.
no andy needed benzos to preform, detoxed from them(his wife's idea) and then his stage fright got Worse so he maybe has preformed 3 times at Most since 1983..and I was born in 1977
I was lucky enough to See XTC and Magazine in Sydney in 1980. It was one of the best gigs I ever went to. The crowd was wired that night. 80s Power Pop Rocks -Ok
What am I hearing at the "...that she caaaaame down" part? 0:39 Andy and Dave play a C. Halfway through, Andy switches to a C with a B bass note (making it a Cmaj7,) while Dave switches to a D6?
XTC bass lines are a treasure
I learnt a lot on bass thanks to Colin in the 80s.
"Helicopter" seems to imitate a motor a bit, and it's the same way in "Roads Girdle the Globe." Fitting.
He's a genius
I was lucky enough to see them perform Chicago 1979 same tour
Always loved Helicopter's rollicking, adorable goofiness.
I just love the way all guitars are playing different helicopter sounds - especially Andy's. How he sings to that rhythm blows my mind!
Exactly he’s awesome
Dave Gregory was one of the most underrated guitarists of the last forty years. The same can be said of Colin Moulding on bass.
everyone here is a genius
The same can be said of Andy's songwriting ! What a band

Yes I hate children's music except for mothersburg's yo Gabba Gabba why do people think children need to hear moronic songs sung by screaming children
best British band ever.
agree

I am so grateful to have seen them play live in the early 80's.

Just getting into these dudes finally. Fucking hell they sound good here
The five people who gave thumbs down need to explain themselves.
I don't need their explanations, they are plain as.....s ...
Andy....what a badass. So energetic...chords guitar work crazy fun and of course the wondrous charming Colin and delightful Dave love love love them
Colin's bass blows my fucking mind
So tight, so musical, so pastorally English. Every Album a Gem. Dukes of the Stratosphere too.

Bárbaros!!!!!! Una de las bandas más originales de su época. Grandes músicos.
Love XTC Andy Partridge is awesome! Drums and Wires is one of my favorites from them!

I absolutely agree!! Theyre soooo great. & once somethings great, it stays that way. Thankyou XTC
From 3:13 to the end---You find me a better clip of live music anywhere else..You can't.
So right! The arrangement and playing are both top-notch!
Try XTC on the Old Grey Test (whatever) 1982 ...
wow, never seen this before
This is so good!!!
The band was really playing tight, XTC in peak form.
Just like a helicopter, copter!..love these guys.
amazing!
How the fuck have I never seen this?
Somehow they failed. They played this album before a Frank Zappa concert. Was it heroin?
no andy needed benzos to preform, detoxed from them(his wife's idea) and then his stage fright got Worse so he maybe has preformed 3 times at Most since 1983..and I was born in 1977
Finally, you can hear Dave Gregory's little chromatic lick during the verse!
Fucking brilliant! Thank you 🖤
seen with oingo boingo at the santa monica civic auditorium

Tune.
"Great New Wave Music"
XTC-XTC-XTC-XTC-XTC
So easy to like them in the mirror. At the time this was wonderfully bizarre
I was in the front and nearly got my head knocked off(NYC 197?)
1980 ? 81 ?
Ian's fingers in the permanent "Gee..." position (yes the song is in D). As if he's saying, "Oh the possibilities...."
she has to be seen to be obhered, great use of lyrics.
She has to be obseen to be obheard.
she has to be obscene to be obheard...Andy could write 'em !
What am I hearing at the "...that she caaaaame down" part? 0:39 Andy and Dave play a C. Halfway through, Andy switches to a C with a B bass note (making it a Cmaj7,) while Dave switches to a D6?
Well I've never been able to work out what happens there. You can do interesting stuff,- mixing different chords together.
brilliant POP song... we need more of them. ! NOT that awful, ugly hate filled RAP ugh !!!!
We need more De La Soul as well
No pedals. I repeat: no pedals
