Hey Otto Man, there's a whole heap of Live XTC Bootlegs here: archive.org/details/@dharmanovel?and%5B%5D=creator%3A%22xtc%22&sort=titleSorter I'd suggest starting with these: 1977 - November - 17 and 26 1978 - December - 8 1979 - July - 20 (Early Dave Gregory era, late for White Music songs, also showcases Dave's guitar parts more than most other boots.) 1980 - September - 7 (Black Sea tour.) 1981 - April - 17 (In-between Black Sea and English Settlement tours, but one of the best XTC shows.) 1982 - March - 7 (Not as good as March 8 due to some recording mishaps, [Real by Reel doesn't have Andy's guitar in it,] but still good.) 1982 - March - 8 (3 tapes; Rehearsal, Audience Mic [containing the first 3 tracks, counting the pre-concert music] and the Pre-FM tape.) Also, there's an XTC Discord Server, "Simpleton," if you feel like joining. It doesn't get a lot of activity, though. I don't feel like posting a direct link to it here, sorry: the last time someone did that at the Andy Partridge & XTC Facebook Page, we got a bunch of trolls bombarding the server.
Xtc filled the space that was missing, do you know what I mean, they were not cool, so really they were very cool, because they didn't try, they just made gorgeous music reflecting life and how it Is❤
Fantastic, what a great band. I actually met Andy, Dave and Colin walking down the street in NYC in 1989 and spoke with them briefly at a corner on Sixth Ave. They were in town to sing King for a Day on David Letterman's show.
Dear God, my senses are working overtime as they always do when I hear this amazing band. This is pop, so they say, but it's far more than that. There is no language in our lungs that can define the excellence of XTC. As refreshing as oranges and lemons, their passionate music could melt the guns of hostility in our lives and bring about world peace, while freeing us all of the ball and chain of musical mediocrity...... if only anyone had fucking listened!
Nice tribute Warren. XTC had everything you wanted from a band, the awesome melodies, chord progressions, lyrics, mood shifts, wry bitter-sweet sense of humour, the last goes on. Too good for the recyclable slurry of the music industry. I can't believe a sound like this, so advanced and light years ahead of their contemporaries was 45 years ago. Proud to be a forever & passionate fan.
Brilliant seminal English post-punk. I was lucky enough to see them a couple of times in this heyday era. They were not about looks, although Andy P tried; it was all about the writing and musicianship. Internationally influential stuff, and a type of Englishness to be proud of.
Amazing to see Dave carry the backbone of this song on his guitar, that non stop riff for the whole 3 or 4 minutes. da da da dum...da da da da da da dum...da da da da da da dum...
I love how they split the screen for the guitar solo, so you could see both Partridge and Gregory doing wut they do. Quite rare in things from the 60's and 70's to find a cameraman/team who are interested in those kinds of shots!!!
He didn't always play the Ibanez Artist, that one seems to have been an occasional player from later 1978 - 1980. He seems to have mostly played that Sunburst Gibson Les Paul from 1978 - 1980, and there was also a Black Les Paul that he played in 1980 - 1981/1982, which was stolen at some point.
I’ve never seen this. I’ve been a fan of XTC since the mid-80’s. It is annoying, that shows like this, would run credits over the performance. Like “books are burning” on a British show, xtc at end, credits over, and they fade out on the song (audio on boxset, compared) If XTC would ever get in the Rock Hall, which they deserve, their induction would likely be faded too.
I hear a great David 'Kid' Jensen BBC session version of this the other day, really clean and stripped down. Would love to hear it again but can't find it on here.
Holy Crap it's LIVE, not lip synched! What a gem of a find....

indeed
Yep
WHY does anyone ever lipsync? show the music video if that's the limit of your risk tolerance
@@TonyLovell because music studios often had or haven't the facilities to deal with a live band
These guys were on their own planet
I was with them
It was earth. We are just xtc’s guests.
Xtc filled the space that was missing, do you know what I mean, they were not cool, so really they were very cool, because they didn't try, they just made gorgeous music reflecting life and how it Is❤
I love Partridge's guitar sound. As does, presumably, Graham Coxon 😊
I saw them in Toronto on the Drums and Wires tour in the early 80s. Unforgettable.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fantastic, what a great band. I actually met Andy, Dave and Colin walking down the street in NYC in 1989 and spoke with them briefly at a corner on Sixth Ave. They were in town to sing King for a Day on David Letterman's show.
I recorded that performance on my VCR and played it over and over in the years before UA-cam.
Absolutely fantastic performance from XTC. The best songs stay in your head for the rest of the day, and this is one of them!
From start to that perfect finish. That's the quality of XTC.
i never knew how great XTC was live
How lucky was I to see them live twice, in NYC and SF in 79 and 80. Tightest live band of the era.
So lucky mate!
I would give the family jewels to have had a chance to see XTC perform.
Yes saw them at the Whisky Go Go in L.A. on that tour. One of the best bands iin history,
@@agostinovaccarini4935 Indeed.

I fucking listened, and loved what I heard.
Do you live on respectable street?
You seem to like XTC a lot! Some would say you are burning with Optimism's flames!

Fantastic! My favorite XTC song. I only realized it was sung by Colin when I watched the video. It still sounds like Andy to me, 44 years later.
Bassist who sings, love it! So tight. XTC.
Paul McCartney, Sting, Phil Lynott. Great.
Don’t forget Ben Orr in another band with two lead singers
Great to see Colin playing his fretless live, its very rare.
That's not his fretless, it's his fretted Fender Mustang.
He didn't seem to get a Fretless until 1981 / 1982, this is April 1979, so it's not that early.
XTC and Cardiacs were from another planet, pure geniuses!
Brilliant
Xtc are truly the best!! Young people should check them out,you won't be sorry!! Dig deep!!😍
I love you tube. I so wish I could have seen these guys back then.
Wowzas! So gutted I never saw them live but forever grateful for these utter gems
And imagine that if they all want it, they could tour the world right now.
Amazing to see Dave carry the backbone of this song on his guitar, that non stop riff for the whole 3 or 4 minutes.
da da da dum...da da da da da da dum...da da da da da da dum...
I reckon Dave is playing the monotonous "rhythm" part of the song, while Andy is playing lead. I wonder who played what parts on the studio recording?
@@spookerz35 I suppose it's the same for the studio recording.
Never saw this before. Great find.
Gerard (Belfast)
Fantastic! Love that split screen shot of Andy and Dave guitar work!
yeah that was clever, a diagonal split to match the natural orientation of the guitar when played
I love how they split the screen for the guitar solo, so you could see both Partridge and Gregory doing wut they do. Quite rare in things from the 60's and 70's to find a cameraman/team who are interested in those kinds of shots!!!
Yup - and, certainly on TOTP, the camera would unerringly look for the bass player during any guitar solo 😂
:D@@alihart
Check out the chords Andy is playing...so far out, they're IN
Haha..me either..still cant
I actually did figure it out. They're actually just simple chords.
The Verse is
D F#m Bm and Am7
If he was in tune this might have been a hit

この曲のシングルCDを手に入れた時の喜びを今でも覚えています(もちろん日本盤を待ったりしなかったので )
I love this and I’ve been lucky to have been to XTC 3 times...lucky me‼️😃
This is f*cking awesome.
No slouching in this band. The drummer is a machine and a good looking rough guy also. He must've pulled some birds.
Dat was Tight!
a musical milestone
Love Partridge's chords here
As a fan since even before this i've never seen this before or even knew it existed!! Brilliant find & thanks for posting.
AP was phenomenal in XTC in the late 70s!!
Nice to see them actually LIVE ! Awesome !
I'm transfixed on Dave's guitar playing.
Bloody good!
Where’s the Ibanez Andy? Great version this......that solo never ceases to tickle the ears.
So good. Tidy performance
Absolutely brilliant!!!!!
I saw them about 2 yrs later at MFP in Roslyn NY
Magic!💚
Awesome!
These guys were so good! 😎
I see where that Message in a bottle riff came! XTC, ahead of their time ...
Baby baby the vibrators
Andy's chords at the end..my God.
Dave’s heavy groove reminds me of the Four Tops song , I Can’t help myself. Probably inspired Colin as one of the songs that played at the Hop ❤.
This is bloody brilliant! Thanks for sharing!
Jesus, Andy is LOUD!
With this upload I'm happy to become subscriber # 1000!
Excellent👏🏻👏🏻
before you know where you are you are somewhere else
Brilliant..... 👍
What is Colin staring at, a teleprompter? He certainly seems mesmerized. (Stage fright? Perish the thought.)
simply brilliant!"
Awesome!
Brilliant.....16 again.
Tremendous stuff
plus, the bass part is fantastic!
Man all this time I thought Andy Partridge was the one singing lead vocals, I was wrong
colin writes the best songs lol
@@nthwndroregano6604 I agree. His lyrics are something else.
Colin sings the songs he wrote, one or two on each album. See Generals and Majors,Nigel and King for a Day!
God this band was great! Thanks for posting!
Great performance! Thanks for the upload.
👏👏👏
Great performance, but need to know why Bobby Charlton was joining the show....
He was going to play the solo and sing chorus, but something happened ...
I love this performance, and them, and Colin.. but I just wanna know what is he staring at? Hehe
It's the best band!!!!
GOOD
Very good. Shame they had to give up playing live. Might've been more successful.

The transistor blast box set :)
@@fuckamericanidiot Thanks! I have just found 3 versions on 'A Coat of Many Cupboards' too.

I've loved this band since they first appeared. i have to admit a certain Talking Heads influence here... not a bad band to borrow from at the time.
Have I not commented YET?
Great! De donde ha salido esto?
Ace.
Naughty Naughty. :)
Terry Chambers was a machine!
So Granada dumped So It Goes.. Tony Wilson for.. This?
I mean the format.. Not XTC who are genius obviously
Damm! Doesn't anyone realize that Dave Gregory's guitar doesn't sound?
Dave's parts often did seem overshadowed by Andy's, in volume. Here's an exception:

@@101Volts Thanks!
I thought that too but it's actually Colin's bass and all the low end that's missing.
Tempo is a bit slow
Studio albums today do not come close to a live performance like this.
Dave's guitar is muted! N
