    Brovo! Pippo shows us not only dramatic tenors, as del Monaco, Corelli, also a lyric-spinto tenor can sing this song perfectly.

    The passion, the perfect diction, and probably the most beautiful tenor voice of the century, add to this a very special personality. and you have Di Stefano. thanks for the clip.

    from your name I understand you could be of italian origin but living in america has brought you off italian language my dear...and indeed off neapolitan dialect.how can't you understand that the diction in all 3 corelli's rendition of neapolitan dialect is very poor. Di Stefano's is wonderfull

  • @fabriou
    @fabriou 16 років тому

    you must be deaf....there are thousands of singers who can sing and understand neapolitan songs better than your beloved corelli .Di Stefano, Gigli, Schipa, Del monaco,Martinelli,Tagliavini....all of them much better than Corelli

  • @fabriou
    @fabriou 16 років тому

    this is the point...the only tenor capable not to utilize neapolitan songs to show off his voice was Di Stefano.you're denying the Truth.
    As to massimo ranieri.I know Him but I' sorry...too much "vulgare" singing

    A di Stefano mancava la tecnica??? Ma lui sapeva fare di tutto della sua voce nei prim 8-10 anni di carriera. Si che cantava in questa maniera un po' di forza e apriva i suoni per far brillare la voce, ma era una scelta consapevole, come anche quella di Gigli.

    L'approccio di Pippo Di Stefano nella interpretazione è etico e spirituale...Questo atteggiamento, oggi, viene soppiantato dall'esteriorismo imposto dalle case discografiche e dalla pubblicità musicale. Ma penso che prima o poi si tornerà ad amare l'ARTE dimenticando l'aridità della scienza e della tecnica...!

    Scusa, Fabris77, ma lo stesso Pavarotti riteneva Di Stefano il MIGLIORE. E anche Del Monao ha definito Di Stefano IL MIGLIORE. Questi sono FATTI, non lo dico io. CON I FATTI NON SI DISCUTE, signor fabris77. La tua e' un'opinione, solo un' opinione. Mentre io parlo di FATTI, non di opinioni. Sia Del Monaco che Pavarotti ritenevano Di Stefano la VOCE DEL SECOLO. Chiaro? O ti devo fare un disegnino per farti capire?

  • @fabriou
    @fabriou 16 років тому

    Io amo molto Gigli...ma mi dispiace doverti dire che Di Stefano nell'ambito della canzone napoletana e' di molto superiore a Beniamino.Qui si tratta di giusto equilibrio tra parola e canto e ricerca della giusta pronuncia (e qui gigli proprio non ci azzeccava).E' vero qui Di Stefano e' leggermente affaticato ma tutti sanno che in quella serata egli era ammalato...e comunque il canto obiettivamente e' stupendo comunque.

  • @berto1999
    @berto1999 16 років тому

    Schipa era un tenore di grazia, e' vero. Anche Di Stefano era pero'in grado di cantare con la stessa grazia di Schipa: hai mai sentito i falsetti di Di Stefano? Diciamo che Di Stefano poteva SCEGLIERE se cantare di potenza o di grazia, perche' poteva cantare in entrambi i modi. Non tutti i tenori possono scegliere. Alcuni tenori sono troppo limitati. Non era il caso di Di Stefano. Pippo poteva cantare quasi TUTTO, in tutti i modi.

    I admire Gigli, etc. in opera. However as to 'canzone Napuletana' I would prefer Roberto Murolo, Massimo Ranieri, even Gigi d'Alessio or Maria Nazionale. They sing by anima, while opera singers just utilise
    melodies of Napule to show one's voice.
    Besides, there are a lot of superb songs of Naples of which few opera singers have ever heard. Just compare such songs as "Chiove", "I' mm' arricordo 'e te" or "Canzone appassiunata" to realize difference between operatic and true interpretaions.

    actually-I am not wrong, it is my opinion and I own it. You just disagree with my opinion, there is no reason to get angry or upset and to attack me on a personal level. For what it is worth, I love DiStefano and think he had the best interpretation and diction overall of any singer throughout modern history. I prefer Del Monaco and Caruso to either DiStefano or Corelli in Canzone singing.

  • @fabriou

    berto is right...dramatic,lyric,and other terms are only technical things...only technicisms.....here it's about THE ART OF SINGING, a field in which Di Stefano was the best of all,even better than DEL MONACO and CORELLI

  • @Nello7
    @Nello7 16 років тому

    The interpretation of Corelli is undeniably superior to that of Di Stefano. For what it is worth, napolitano is very difficult to sing and not even Caruso could sing it perfectly. The street singers of Napule can sing it but they lack technique-but they make up for it in anima.

    OK, Relativism... Well, if one ask me about my favourite Puccini's opera, I would hesitate between 'Le Villi' and 'Turandot'. Is my soul pour since I listen sometimes to such a teenager-targeted work as 'Le Villi', just because I love to hear certain melodies? Or maybe teenagers are soul-less or not human beeings at all? You puzzled me, and I am trying to realize - am I POOR or REACH, listening to so different operas - both about LOVE and DEATH?

    @billyguns2 I would actually beg to differ. I think a little differently about di Stefano than most do. I don't think he was flawless. But, while most people think his technical problems had to do with his passaggio and "openness", etc..... I disagree. He had a problem, but that wasn't it.... That's just where people HEARD something was going awry.... But then, I think differently than many people.

    @countceprano If you listen to Pippo early in his career, you will hear him employing exactly the same open vowels on high notes as here. The difference, & the reason he sang flawlessly then, was because he didn't allow the top voice to spread along with the vowel, but kept it floating & focused. Later, he began driving for volume on the top notes rather than singing with his lyric voice, & his former technique began to unravel. There's a difference between open vowels & open notes.

    @billyguns2 Di Stefano knew how to cover,but he chose not to.There are many eamples of GDScovering here onYT.At times Gigli and Del Monaco sang open in the passaggio,but would cover on top.GDS has a (A Non Credevi Tu)&(Addio Mignon)which is a lower tessitura,but cover well& sounds extremely beautiful. There are selections of I Puritani arias (A Te O Cara) &duet Vieni Fra Queste Braccia,where Di Stefano is forced to cover in the passaggio and also hitting the covered C sharps in both arias.Enjoy

    @countceprano Any tenor who can sing a full voice high C, & fine it away to pianissimo, has nothing of note wrong with his fundamental technique. Unfortunately, most singers develop bad vocal habits that eventually become a permanent change in the technique.
    There is a Caruso record that illustrates open vowels while keeping the head register focused. In Deserto In Terra, he sings a high C on the OO vowel. He then sings the same note on AH but retains the same vocal position as the OO.

    Corelli was the one who never ever had an interpretation. He struggled to make it but it always either would come from somebody else or, if he finally produced it, with a horrible taste. The King of interpretation is Pippo. The aristocrate. That's what Pippo is. Any line he sings he transforms to a gold. Corelli (or Bjorling) were both helpless to do something great. Del Monaco sounds ridiculous in parts where he can't use his thunder. Canzone is for lyric tenors. Pippo was one.

    Di Stefano sings by far the best"Tu c'a nun chiagne". 1:18 - 1:25 is quite adorable. He's quite minimalistic in his movement and subtle yet powerful facial expressions, not overly melodramatic, which makes his performances very charming and real. RIP Maestro!

    His lack of technique ravaged his voice in a few years! Not very musical, not very wise, superb voice quality. A pity!
