- Mario Del Monaco is one of three or four of my favourite tenors. His "Dio, mi potevi scagliar" or "Forse la soglia attinse", or "Amor ti vieta", or e.g. "L´anima ho stanca" are unrivalled. Only Domingo (mainly as Radames or Cavaradossi) or Corelli (as Chenier or Manrico) there is possible to compare with his vocal beauty... sometimes, namely in Amor ti vieta ("vieta") or Forse la soglia ("palpito", "sotto") or Lamento (phrase "il dolce sembiante" - vocal "A") are his vocals incomparable beautifull...
Lo so che molti non saranno d’accordo con me ma a mio sommesso avviso Del Monaco è stato il più grande di tutti e chissà se mai ne nascerà un altro ❤

Mi ha ricordato mio padre che, negli anni 60,70, si chiudeva in stanza ad ascoltare questi magnifici tenori mentre noi amavamo la musica beat e rock. Ora che sono anziana in queste musiche ritrovo mio padre e le trovo meravigliose. Tenori così non ce ne sono più al mondo.

Una delle più belle interpretazioni del tenore drammatico ed eroico che, ancora oggi, offre a noi melomani delle meravigliose prerogative di voce e di dizionei che risultano essere inarrivabili.
E ovviamente tali risultati rimarranno inarrivabili (o meglio, non ordinariamente sostenibili) fintanto che gli avari pinocchi italiani ed europei premeranno per vivere entro il finto e ipocrita benessere coloniale, con pervasiva tecnologizzazione e con un regime di vita medicalizzato, impedendo innaturalmente ai propri figli (sempre più iper sessualizzati, effeminati, alienati e disturbati) l'accesso e lo studio della vera arte.
Siamo anche ciò che mangiamo, per cui fintanto che la maggioranza dei cittadini continuerà a trangugiare cibi non consoni ai bisogni del proprio clima (cioè prodotti alimentari esteri e poltiglie industriali) lo stile di vita sarà antitetico al canto, in primis, e a tutte le discipline musicali poi.

I don’t really understand opera very much but when I first hear Del Monaco, my first thought was amplifier. No matter it’s the voice, passions, or expression. It just hit you with tidal waves. When he sang his second Nessun Dorma, I’m already crying. Like Pavarotti, he had a unique way of presence you just can’t ignore. Just too mesmerizing. 🥰

It's a dramatic tenor, a well developed one. Today they just don't exist, not because there are not born such voices, just the technique is different and worse.
But also there aren't many born with that voices...

Like Lady Bathory said above, people are born with talents and voices like these but they are just not trained properly.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee well check out Kirsten Flagstad singing Dido's lament by Purcell. She is the only one using her full voice. In everyone else's interpretation you can hear breathiness and nasal sounds. That's mostly what you can hear from today's singers. I don't see that as a blessing.
About the agility, Callas is an example of agile voice with dramatic abilities. Joan Sutherland as well. And many other lyric and coloratura voices who sang perfectly their own repertoire
@@andity1 Absoloutley true. Dramatic born tenors and sopranos are highly underestimaded and bad trained these days. For example, Tarja Turunen was a always a dramatic soprano and for years she was trained to be a mezzo and lyrical soprano because no one understood the power of her dark and unique voice. Later she became the singer of Nightwish, and she had the chance to explore the full potential of her range. Now she is one of the fewer dramatic sopranos you can find singing classical repertories on stage. They are such unique diamond voices but modern schools of music are not prepared to train them.

I just read the 35 comments to my post, and I'm thrilled to see how many Del Monaco fans there are - including those who had not heard of him. All his contemporary reviewers talked about his commanding presence on stage - movie star handsome, a great actor. And that powerful, resonant voice overwhelmed people when it filled every corner of the opera houses. And yet his phrasing, legato and emotion somehow thrived through that powerful delivery. He may be the greatest Verdi tenor of all time. To me, it is CARUSO, DEL MONACO, and DiSTEFANO as the great three, and on Opera's Mount Rushmore PAVAROTTI with that golden, colorful voice and sublime phrasing. All four could cover everything from the leggero and lyric roles onto the dramatic and sound astonishing in all.

А открывание рта под свою же студийную запись называется - "фанера". Это специфика телевизионщиков. Когда снимаешь живого исполнителя, всегда есть риск наснимать артиста не в форме или мало ли что еще. Тогда снимали на пленку, а пленка - дело не дешевое. Чем меньше дублей - тем менее затратным является ваше производство. И с монтажом потом меньше возни. Поэтому такая форма работы - и страховка, и экономия. Я не говорю, что Дель Монако пел живые концерты под фанеру (бог с вами, вы что!), я говорю, что данный конкретный фрагмент снят именно так; и так снимались абсолютно все, если снимались для телевидения. Да и сейчас редко встретишь телеверсию какого-либо действа, исполненную живьем. И связано это не с отсутствием талантов у исполнителя (по крайней мере в данном конкретном случае).

Albert, it is always the matter of personal taste. I liked Giuseppe di Stefano when he was young in early 1950. Later Monaco, Corelli, Bjorling and Bergonzi prevailed as my most favorite tenors of the post WWII era... Bulgarian tenor Nikola Nikolov was very good as well...

He is considered the best DRAMMATIC tenor of the XX century.Also Franco Corelli the best Spinto Tenor...Both have more large voice and power than Pavarotti who is a wonderful Lyric tenor....after Caruso the tenor of the Century-Gigli e Byorling..they are considered by the press the best

The greatest dramatic tenor who ever lived. To have that much power and depth, and still remain as lyrical and emotional as he does, is truly breath taking. There is nothing that Mario could not do. Astonishing. There is no better Nessun Dorma than this one.

Chi ha messo il dito in giù dovrebbe all’improvviso perdere l’udito, e ve lo sta dicendo un ragazzo di 22 anni ....Meditate gente...meditate
Hai ragione ragazzo. Hai perfettamente ragione. Il timbro e gli armonici, il registro ampio, direi quasi sterminato, fanno di questo strabiliante tenore qualcosa di unico e irripetibile, almeno fino ad oggi. Era pienamente consapevole di quello che le sue corde vocali potevano spingersi a fare, maniaco dello studio, perfezionista, Ascolta bene quel "quando la luce splenderà" a 1:15, e capirai che non è solo un tenore, ma un baritono che cantava anche da tenore, e, anche un tenore che spesso faceva il baritono. Nessuno nella storia della lirica è arrivato a tanto. Incredibile. Questa registrazione del 1954 non è neanche una delle migliori, immagina. Ascolta e riascolta con molta concentrazione l'aria di norma del 1957 "Meco all'altar di Venere" e scoprirai altre sfumature portentose.

La mejor voz de hombre, que transmite virilidad, fuerza, desafio, emoción, sentimiento de entrega y de afirmación masculina. Sutil y rotunda, unica, extensa y luminosa a la espera del momento de triumfo en la mujer y sobre la adversidad. Un prodigio unico que desbanca a tantos y tantos magnificos cantantes que no son capaces de alcanzar la sublimidad y perfección emotiva amen de técnica.
