One of the things I love about your videos is the sounds of nature. Other people that have fishing videos have terrible music that ruins it.

Those summer sounds of the river sure are great! I have a half hour sound clip of nature’s symphony from a late summer day on the river that I’ll play on my home stereo every now and then during winter.

This is what I believe sites like You Tube wanted to give a platform to those who truly are gifted who know how to entertain. So many channels try to force themselves on the viewer, within first 15 secs "Subscribe, Like, hit the bell", without ever really letting the viewer see their content. They need to watch you, Matt you have such a way about you that we all here are drawn to this channel. Like so many others, I could watch all day! Thanks!

I just want to make a point here even though I know it's a late comment. I didn't even know you had a fish until I heard the splashing. Usually, you hear an oop, there's one and then obnoxious music starts blasting. I'm impressed, your fishing feels a lot like my own. I catch the fish, admire it, and let it go. You make great videos and you've earned yourself a sub.

Thanks Matt. It’s great to hear your thoughts as you fish the river. I will use your some of your tips next time I’m out. It has been a tough summer on my local river. The topwater bite has been nonexistent. Most productive lure has been a tube jig followed by a ned rig with a TRD. Slower fishing dragging along bottom. Its been a very hot summer. Hoping things will pick up in the fall as things cool down. Thanks again for the video

About 3/4 of the way through, I got a whopper plopper hook in my leg after a 19 incher went ballistic on the deck of the boat. An ER visit and a scar later, the hook was out. I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen you catch a smallie that was less than 12”. Thanks for including that one as a confidence booster for the rest of us!

You obviously had permission to launch where you did Lol. Those were some great smallies. That same method works for the river spotted bass we catch down south. Great video thanks 😎

That sign isn’t even there any more, but the portage sign on the other side of the fence is. It’s a listed access spot on DNR maps.

Thanks Weston! You know it’s going to be a good day when you get a chunky smallmouth on topwater within five minutes of hitting the water! We might have to hit this stretch of river when you come up in a few weeks. The fishing is incredible there in September!

NDYakAngler Your so welcome Matt!! Yea that is a really good day when you start out the first 5 minutes with a huge chunk! Man you caught some nice fish in that video. They just slam that whopper plopper. That would be so awesome if we hit that stretch of river when I come up to fish in a few weeks, that would be epic! It’s going to be good in September brother!

Your videos are awesome! Your presentation and attitude are spot on. Keep doing what you doing. While our smallmouth down south are a little different...I'm learning a lot from your videos. I do a lot of what you do, small paddle powered boat and rivers. I think you would benefit from a front and rear anchor. When you are fishing upstream you could drop a front anchor when you hook up and not lose so much "ground" fighting and unhooking. While floating back down, a good drag chain anchor would slow you down and you could have more time to really pick apart every good spot. All the river I saw in this video would be very safe to anchor in. To all, when anchoring a boat in any current...paranoia is healthy!
That advice and 2 cents still won't buy buy a cup of coffee!
    Keep them coming my friend.

Thanks Derek! I actually have a Power Pole Micro Anchor mounted on the rear of my kayak. I had it with but I decided to not use it since most people don’t have one, plus this is pretty much how I fished for several years before I had it. It’s great for shallow stretches of river like this, I’ll drop it to stop when I hook up heading upstream and on my way back down I’ll drop it to stop and work any good looking spots.
