a clamp or pinch effect from ant, especially a trapjaw, would be a more logical conclusion, as you mentioned the huntsmen would have no doubt left two marks if it were capable of dealing the first.
Makes sense, based on my experience big spiders don't just randomly bite, they might just pass by or sprint over you, they might not find your body interesting to eat since it hunts smaller prey fit for her diet.

Just for future reference, ants don't usually make great feeder insects. There isn't a lot of 'meat' or moisture in them. They're mostly exoskeleton (as you know) and often the predator would end up expending more energy capturing and killing it than it'd gain from eating it. Its actually a common misconception that spider bites leave behind 2 puncture marks. If it were a tarantula for example, sure, then most likely you would see 2 seperate marks. But anything smaller, the entry points of the two fangs will be so close together that there is little if any visible separation. The most likely cause of a double puncture is some bloodsucking insect that has bitten you twice.

It's been almost a year since I watched your channel, and I dont know why I stayed away so long. You are so brilliant at what you do, it makes ants interesting. I never cared about ants before I found this channel - but since then, I can sit and watch ants for hours
Same, but his videos haven’t been popping up on my home page for some reason. I only saw this one because I was scrolling through my subscriptions
I'm addicted to your channel. You're a very skilled story teller. Ever thought about setting up a live cam? I'd spend hours just watching your critters go
I think it's more likely that you were stung by Madame Trapjaw, as their jaws are incredibly inefficient for biting large creatures like us. She'd have been more likely to have harmlessly catapulted herself across the room attempting to bite your palm.
Her sting, on the other hand, would have been far more efficient.
"Madame Trapjaw" 😂
My 10 year old son, Kessler Conners, loves your channel! And he has been obsessed with ants ever since I can remember. He says there are 1,207 species of huntsman spiders in the world. :)
That’s 1,206 too many species of those.

I am scared of no spider, not even this one, but even a 1 inch cockroach can scare me.
I remember some friends doing spider battles, they have match boxes filled with different spiders and they make them fight on a stick.

a clamp or pinch effect from ant, especially a trapjaw, would be a more logical conclusion, as you mentioned the huntsmen would have no doubt left two marks if it were capable of dealing the first.
That hurt like strong pain 😥
Makes sense, based on my experience big spiders don't just randomly bite, they might just pass by or sprint over you, they might not find your body interesting to eat since it hunts smaller prey fit for her diet.
PLEASE tell me exactly where your cottage is. That way I can avoid ever going there at all costs 😜👍🏼
Huh?
It's rather sweet that you fed the nightmare fuel spider a nightmare fuel roach before releasing her.

Woow I have been following antscanada for a while and I am adding this channel to ONE of my favouriteS
This guy is the most wholesome guy on the internet he just talks like a kid and just talks only about ants
I’d say he talks like that so everyone of all ages can understand him, it’s a smart move in trying to reach all audiences tbh. Especially with a not-so-known biology study to the public eye
It's like that one weird kid
Just for future reference, ants don't usually make great feeder insects. There isn't a lot of 'meat' or moisture in them. They're mostly exoskeleton (as you know) and often the predator would end up expending more energy capturing and killing it than it'd gain from eating it. I think that was the case with the huntsman and that very lucky queen!
…..how can you sleep when you’re being bitten and stung at all hours of the night?!
I don't think you will lose your sleep after your pet dog bite you. As he likes ants, he has no reason to fear.

Daddy Longlegs can refer to the order of Opiliones, which indeed are not technically spiders. But the name can also refer to the species Pholcus phalangioides which is a spider - a very friendly and useful one!

Just the other day I found a huntsman in my garage, the huntsman I usually come across in Australia have shorter legs, but are super muscle-y and hairier. You'd love Australia. Me, an aussie, having arachnophobia, is the worst possible combination. Thank god I only come across a few in the suburbs, I'd never live in the bush
as someone who lives in the bush i completely agree
I wouldn’t mind it in the bush.
I was wondering how you could have possibly mistaken that ginormous spider for a male ant...trap jaw queen makes MUCH more sense!
Huntsman: "I've bit you"
AC: "I will attempt to feed this beast"
The way that spider can jack itself up on its legs to eat like that😵🥴
Its actually a common misconception that spider bites leave behind 2 puncture marks.
If it were a tarantula for example, sure, then most likely you would see 2 seperate marks. But anything smaller, the entry points of the two fangs will be so close together that there is little if any visible separation.
The most likely cause of a double puncture is some bloodsucking insect that has bitten you twice.
Or a very large spider like that huntsman.
1207 species of huntsman.
I am happy I could enjoy everything at a save distance. Looking forward to the update next week on all the wonderful Queen ants including the trapjaw Queen ofcoars.

I was gonna say, I have so many huntsman spiders that romp around my house and they are the friendliest spiders in existence. They would never bite you unless you did something really stupid 🤣
Im still having trouble accepting them as house guest
I wish we had huntsman spiders here. The only large, actively hunting, fast-moving spiders in my area are dark fishing spiders, which are NOT friendly lol.

Even if they don’t bite when not provoked, I’m worried that a Spider will go to my bed at night just to chill, but my constant tossing and turning may cause the spider to panic and bite me in my sleep
Queen of Trapvelers(You know their jaws are called 'traps' and they travel so I combined them and boom there:D)
My first thought: Huntsman generally don't bite humans...also, if they do it's generally because they're being attacked. and I doubt laying in your bed, as much as you love bugs, you'd start just idly swatting at it!
Here are some name ideas for the trapjaw ants:
The Pincers
The Bonebreakers
The Scissors
The Travelling Traps
Venus Flytraps (I just think the way they hunt are similar to that of Venus Flytraps)
Handeaters (A little nod to how you got stung/bit by one)
The Deathbringers
The Anklebiters (What you call a small creature who latches onto you and constantly attacks in video games)
The Lifedestroyers
The Bedbug Mimics
For the queen name, I'm thinking of something comical.
