    No, no... No. I'm not having a nervous breakdown. Really, that would be stupid; having a nervous breakdown just because you're reviewing another 87i clone while I am about to take delivery of my STAM. Ha, ha, I laugh at even the thought of being upset now that I am a STAM guy and there's ANOTHER 87i clone to consider. I'm not even mad at my wife who said, "I like the name Dachman better than Stam. Dachman has more gravitas." So, no fear. I made the right choice. I'm really almost positive, maybe for sure, possibly of course, kind of yes, I think because I'm a STAM guy now, right? Okay, I'm feeling' it. Made the right choice. Possibly. Oh hell, yeah, I sure did! And of course, my wife silenced any doubt by saying that if I bought both, she would use one of them as a butt plug. In MY butt. I'm calm now.

      I didn’t compare it to the Stam in the video. I will do a separate video about a comparison between the two.

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  Місяць тому +1

      Hey there. Well, I can’t talk about the United Twin. I’ve never tried that one. But I DID reach out to them to get a mic. I guess they weren’t interested.
      Between the Dachman and the Stam, it’s a hard decision. The Stam has much more character, but the Dachman takes EQ better - not that the Stam doesn’t take EQ. I just mean the Dachman can really be pushed.
      It’s a hard call, man. If you want extra saturation and character, go Stam. If you want a cleaner version (but not too clean) go Dachman.

  • @DWHarper62
    @DWHarper62 Місяць тому +1

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  Місяць тому +1

      Hey there. Man that’s a tough call. I love them both. Each for different reasons. The Stam is incredible and definitely vintage sounding, and it has a lot of saturation from the honking transformer in there. The Dachman has less color, more open, has a wonderful tone, and quiet.
      They’re both great at different applications. What will you be using it for? Maybe I can help you decide.

      @@TheRecordist All arounder. Emphasis on vocals, but instruments and drum room also. already got a SM7b and pair of C414 XL2's arrive Thursday. Thinking of the "buy one get one half off deal" Dachman is running for stereo applications.

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  Місяць тому +1

      @@Dan_Mahoney well the best all-rounder may be the Dachman. The Stam has a lot of character. The harmonic saturation on that mic is off the charts. It’s super mid-forward - just like the original 87i.
      The Dachman has less saturation but not NO saturation. It has a mid-forward sound, too. It’s more detailed in the top end than the Stam. But not by much.
      If you already have two AKG C-414 XLII mics, then you’ve got the brightness covered. Those mics have a lot more top end than the XLS version.
      For you it may come down to how accurate do you want the mic? Almost complete and total accuracy to the original U87i is the Stam. Close to the original but more modern sounding is the Dachman.
      I can’t make the choice for you but I can help you decide.

    I think you nailed it when you said it has that vintage vibe. That forward transformer saturation on it is really nice on your voice and pops those mids. This is a great clone option for sure. I have to go back and rewatch the Stam review, but I think I may like this one a bit better.

      Thanks, Mark! I did notice it was much easier to work with for the VO part. Barely any EQ was needed to make it sound lush and pleasing.

    I agree the 80's rock song didn't do much for demonstrating the mic, but daaaannng, man......that was kick-ass!! However, the sound of the singing sounded kinda tinty compared to the rest of the entire video. I was surprised.

    • @northcoaststudios
      @northcoaststudios Місяць тому

      @@TheRecordist - Maybe "tinty" is a regional term? By tinty I mean it sounded extra light; no body to it. Lacking low frequencies. On a system with just bass and treble knobs, no bass and too much treble. I've listened to this on two different speaker systems. On the one with bass and treble knobs I double checked to make sure the bass was turned up all the way and the treble was just above half way. The other speaker is an old Bose, known for being bassy, and it still sounds tinty, lacking bass. Funny things is, it's only the singing in the 80's rock song that I hear this. Everything else is awesome. Maybe it's just the high register of your voice in that song?

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  Місяць тому +1

      Hey there! Haha. Ah yes. The shoulder holsters. Well, those are for vapes. They hold vape mods on one side, and batteries and or e-liquid on the other side.
      In my case, I’ve got Apple AirPods 2 on one side. And sometimes a tiny recorder on the other side, among other things (including intended functions). I always have my AirPods with me just in case. And keeping them in my pocket damaged my old pair. So now I put them in the holster and that keeps them from getting destroyed.
      I just got used to wearing that. I’m also huge into functional accessories. I’m also neurodivergent and REALLY enjoy being prepared. Hahaha.

      @JonathanDano Місяць тому

      @@TheRecordist I am in quite the pickle and it's a pickle created by my own brain because I always believe something is better than what I have. I currently own and use the lewitt LCT 440 pure and the Shure sm27 microphones. The Shure is my daily driver for voiceover work. But after hearing how clean the SE 4400 was, and seeing a cheaper version without extra polar patters I don't need, I started looking at the 4100 and the T1 which reviews have shown me are similar, but the T1 just looks better to me. And se electronics has been very impressive to me for years now. I was going to pick one up after I saw your review of the 4400, but then your k67x review popped up and it sounded so good and reminded me that Roswell pro audio has great sounding mics that might solve my fabricated "I need something better" issue. After some research and a very convincing video from another UA-camr showing a comparison between the mini k87 and the u87 AI, I was going perhaps going to pick up one of those instead, although it doesn't sound exactly like a neuman I thought it still sounded pretty great and could potentially satisfy many engineers looking for the neuman for VO work. And now here is the Dachman which sounds so good, but without the sale it's out of my price range... Even with the sale it's still a pretty penny on my salary... And all of this stress over a fear that my two mics I already own, are not good enough in my sound blanket booth. If I had all the money in the world I'd butly them all, but unfortunately I'd have to pick one, and I think I will be going with the se electronics T1 just because it's cheaper than the Roswell mini k87, still sounds very clean and neutral, and will likely pick up less background noise than my Shure sm27. I do like the Shure, but it does pick up everything and my sound blanket booth doesn't keep out the occasional chirping bird or someone using a faucet 3 rooms over. I don't expect any of these kids to solve that issue though, like I said I just don't think I'll ever be truly satisfied. I'm sure many people would say just build a better booth, but that's not an option for me with the space I have. The sound blanket booth cuts out reverb and echoes, and reduces outside noise a little, but I can put it away behind my door when I'm done with it. If you have any advice I'd be very grateful. Thanks for listening

    • @JonathanDano
      @JonathanDano Місяць тому

      @@TheRecordist the Dachman is what I want, but it's a little out of my budget. I might settle for the T1 as its just like the se 4400 you reviewed with some minor differences but still very neutral and flat and clean. The Roswell mics are the monkey wrench in this whole operation because the mini k67x sounds great and it sounds colorful, whereas I've seen videos comparing the mini k87 with the Neuman u87 ai. and while the mic does sound great, it doesn't sound exactly like the Neuman, but it sounds close enough that it might satisfy me, as well as sound engineers who want actors like me to have a Neuman sound. however, both are still more expensive than the T1 and I can't ignore the T1's sound quality at that price. Meanwhile, the two mics I already own, the LCT 440 pure and the Shure SM27 are probably both thinking "why aren't we good enough?" and the answer is they are and I am just never going to be satisfied lol. the only reason I'm looking is because my sm27 is my daily use mic for vo work and it has a habit of making my S sounds a little too sibilant and de-essing adds on too much extra work because not every s needs to be de-essed, and if I just run a de-esser on my whole recording some of my s sounds become lispy. It also picks up a lot of background noise. I don't have the space for a better booth than my fold-away blanket booth. and it works well enough to remove echo and reverb. background noises are unavoidable and the Shure picks them all up. but i like the Shure better than the lewitt on my voice so it stays in the booth. if you have any advice I'd greatly appreciate it. i wrote another comment just as long as this one that likely got stuck in the ether, so if it also pops up i apologize for two very long comments saying the same thing.
      TL/DR I'm probably going to buy the se T1 but not because I actually need it, I'm just never happy with what I already have.

      @JonathanDano Місяць тому

      @@TheRecordist I decided on the mini k67x in orange, and placed an order. I already have 2 great mics in the same price bracket as the Se electronics T1, and figured despite how great that mic looks it would be more of a lateral change rather than adding something new. The color and growl from the k67x sounded like a nice addition to the work I'm already doing. Next upgrade will be the Dachman, when I'm ready for it or feel like I need it.
