I always take a minimum of 30 pictures of the exterior and an additional 20 of the interior. I also include a picture of the miles with the sales associate standing in view. I make sure to take a pic of the wear of the tires as well. I store it all on an external hard drive. I do not want to get screwed by anyone. I was accused of damage by a company and asked them to file a police report. After they filed the police report I showed the evidence to the police. They charged them with filing a false report.

Enterprise in Greenville, SC trying the same exact scam on me. I have a video of the outside at drop-off. BUT I left it over night. They assure once you drop off the vehicle/put the keys in the drop-box afterhours, you are done. Go after these rental car crooks aggressively and if it's not because of a recorded accident where a highway patrol or police report has been made, they'll back down. Go ahead and file consumer complaints with the STATE you live in as well as the homestate consumer affiars offices. AND it wouldn't hurt to ask friends OR make acquaintances with ex-car rental employees to get the scoop on how to turn the tables on these sheisters.

I worked for dollar thrifty at san francisco airport for about 2 years and let me tell you its a scam of a business. I was abused in many ways but I am in college so decided to just take it because I need money for monthly bills. I hate to say it but the majority of the people who work there are low class citizens who are just happy to have a job. I worked harder than all the people in my position for not one cent more than them. We all have a duty to share a radio to keep communicating with other departments of the business and I would come in for the swing shift and hold the radio for the entire shift. As soon as I came in, the morning shift still had 2 hours until they were off and they would hand it to me knowing that I worked with two other non english speaking people from SF. One manager even told me " You talk good on the radio, I want you to hold it ". He was a straight up loser just like the majority of the managers who probably have some business degree that they don't even apply in any way. After a while I understood very well that this was a dead end job. The sales agents have no sales skills whatsoever. Its the airport at a major city so the sales will do itself. People will always come in compared to another facility not at an airport. I quickly understood how the place worked and played them right back. I would call off so many times if i had a midterm coming up or just did not feel like working and was ready to threaten to expose them if they dare say something about my attendance. I have seen so many situations like the one described but just like many businesses the managers will do whatever to make the customer happy but in reality they would F-over as many people as they could get away with. From car damage to fuel recovery to abusing employees I have experienced or seen it all. Its the nature of this business.

In 1994, I rented a 93 Ford van from Budget and had the rear bench seats removed so we could haul some personal belongings from Hamilton Ont. to Trenton Ont. We settled on a passenger van as we planned to sleep in it overnight. We had to be at the Hamilton address early in the morning to claim our property. We got the job done and returned the van the next evening. 2 days later they wanted me to return and arrange payment for damage incurred during the time we had the van. I asked them "What damage ?" Their response was there were cigarette holes burned into the seat of the van so I had to go back the next day to view the damage. I got there and walked up to the van and opened the dr. side door, looked the seat over, no burn marks, went over to the pas. side, no burn marks either. Fellow in a suit came over and asked if I needed any assistance, I said that I received a call from someone from the business that there was burn marks in the seats and that they wanted me to pay ? I said "look, where is the damage ?" He opened the sliding side door and indicated the 2 benches in the back pointing out the burn marks on the seats. I then pulled out my copy of the rental contract pointing out the "special note" their agent wrote, concerning the removal of the seats before I took possession of the van that Friday morning. Needless to say, I left afterwards.

When renting a car, I always take a walk around video of the car before leaving the lt while the rental agent is still there with me. Take extra care to record any nicks, scratches, dents or missing parts or interior pieces.

I had the same kind of issue with Enterprise, but I was forced to pay a deposit fee before I could leave and they hounded me for my own car insurance info since I declined there coverage, I refused to give it to them right then but would later since I was told that there claims adjuster would be contacting me after they took it to a body shop for an appraisal. I never heard from them after that. The damage btw, was underneath the car behind the side of the bumper, we never checked that during the inspection process when picking up in the first place.
