Homemade Chicken Tikka Masala
Servings: 5-6
INGREDIENTS
Chicken Marinade
3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 lemon
125 grams yogurt
6 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon ginger, minced
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons cumin
2 teaspoons garam masala
2 teaspoons paprika
Bamboo or wooden skewers
Sauce
3 tablespoons oil
1 large onion, chopped finely
2 tablespoons ginger, minced
8 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons cumin
2 teaspoons turmeric
2 teaspoons ground coriander
2 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons garam masala
1 tablespoons tomato puree
800 grams tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
300 milliliters water
250 milliliters cream
Chopped coriander, to garnish
Rice and naan bread, to serve
PREPARATION
Preheat oven to 500°F/260°C.
Slice the chicken into bite-sized chunks, the combine the chicken with the rest of the chicken marinade ingredients in a bowl. Mix until evenly coated, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Skewer the marinated chicken pieces on bamboo skewers, then place them over a baking tray lined with parchment paper, making sure there is space underneath the chicken to help distribute the heat more evenly.
Bake for about 15 minutes until slightly dark brown on the edges.
Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat, then sauté the onions, ginger, and garlic until tender but not browned.
Fry the spices for about 30 seconds to release their aromatics and flavor, stirring constantly, then stir in the tomato puree.
Add the tomato sauce and water, then bring to a boil and cook for about 5 minutes.
Pour in the cream and mix in the chicken, cooking for another 1-2 minutes.
Serve with rice and naan bread!

You don't put paprika in Indian food...
When they use paprika instead of red chilli powder
Alternate title: Tasty's version of chicken tikka masala
finally some Indian/pakistani food!!!
Had to see the comments to know for sure Tasty was over here ruining another cultures meal again 😂👌
It all looked good until 800g of tomato sauce came 😁
Hate how people hate on these Eastern recipes. Nowhere does it say ‘Authentic’ recipe. This recipe is for those who never had curry or any Indian food to expand their palate. Half of y’all judging this recipe are eating a frozen pizza with ranch so yeah
my sauce ended up more like a mumbai curry because there was too much tomato sauce in your recipe. Next time I will use half the tomato sauce
My soul just died as soon as he poured the humongous amount of tomato souce.
Chicken Tikka Masala is not an Indian dish. It was develeped by a Bangladeshi immigrant in UK in the 1960s. He modified Chicken Tikka (traditional Muslim dish) by adding gravy and making it more palatable to the british taste. In India the Chicken Tikka Masala we make is the modiefied version of the UK version. ie.more spicy and slightly sour. The original recipe didnt have lemons as the ingredient AFAIK. Chicken Tikka Masala is the unofficial "National Dish of England", because this is where this particular recipe was invented. It is more popular there than here in India.
Tasty 101 on how to make Indian Food
Even the music changed when he added 800 grams of tomato sauce
Wow I never realized the only spice I need to get from the Indian market is garam masala. Everything else is easy to find. Awesome!!!
This was amazing! I did do a few things differently: used skinless, boneless chicken thighs. You have to use Kashmiri Chilli powder with the chicken and sauce, added fresh tomatoes with the spices, and half of the tomato sauce. I also added Fenugreek leaves and instead of cream, I used plain yogurt. I literally ate this cold the next morning for breakfast. The sauce was so ADDICTING!
I got horrified after adding that much tomato sauce-
Paprika or red chilli
I made this yesterday. Did everything as shown in the recipe except used only one can of tomato purée/sauce. The taste was amazing!
A rare treat to find a cooking video with no frills. No "like and subscribe," no "this is why I love this so much,".... straight to it.
I have to admit you guys killed me when you added all that tomato sauce...
Just a quick tip try to marinate chicken for over night in the refrigerator it makes tons of difference. Add dried fenugreek leaves in the end it gives the gravy a distinct aroma and flavor rest follow the same steps it will turn out amazing.
