I've been quilting for literally decades and have tried all kinds of marking tools and yet, I still found this chat helpful and full of reminders. thanks! Probably the best and most important tip you give is the one to TEST to make sure your marking will come out ans well as to mark LIGHTLY.

I just marked a whole cloth quilt. It was huge and I had to tape it to my kitchen floor to do it. There is a central image and drafted frames to go around it. So I needed a long straightedge, a carpenters T square, and my quilting rulers. I was swiftly reminded why I don’t crawl around on the floor anymore. 😂

Hi. Wow, congrats. That must have been challenging. Can I ask what you used for marking it? If you made a mistake how did you correct it? How did you keep everything straight and aligned in each quadrant? Did you trace a design, use a stencil or freehand ? How did you figure out how to get the design enlarged to the area?
I’ve always wanted to do this but cannot figure out how to transfer a custom design.
And yes I realize there are a lot of questions. I’m just so impressed that you accomplished it. Have fun quilting it❗️😁

@@sunflowerbaby1853 my client actually traced the central image, I’m guessing using a projector. I borrowed a long carpenters T square and worked my out from the center, making sure all the corners were square to each other. I used a blue water soluble marker and mistakes were easy to spritz away.

I tend to have a problem with proportion. So reference points are useful for me, they solve a lot of my quilting issues. I used to think I had to sketch it all out. Your advice is gold! 👌

Someone told me she used an almost gone piece of soap because she washed each quilt she made before gifting it, or storing it. It works! But only on certain colors.

I used the tissue like paper to draw out a pattern with a regular pencil, stitched thru it and after removing the paper the lead pencil came off with the stitching. Hopefully it will wash out when customer washes it. What instrument should I use to mark on my tissue paper from now on?

I don’t like chalk…it doesn’t stay, by the time I’m done with half of the square the chalk is gone. I use the blue marker and other colors depending on the color of fabric. With the blue markers and other colors markers I can do all of the squares I would love it if you would sell more of the plastics stencils
