So it's not a real squid or a real vampire. I mean everyone already knew the second part of that but not the first part, interesting.
Another mountain chicken
Kinda like the Guinea pig. It’s not from Guinea nor is it a pig. We aren’t always great at giving accurate names. 😆
it's not a real vampire!? GOD DAMN IT MY LIFE IS A LIE
The Wind Fish is neither.
Vampire squid on her way to form an idol group with an octopus and a manta ray
Quite a Deep Cut, there.
You forgot one of the coolest parts, Rather than normal ink like their relatives, The vampire squid excretes a glowing "Ink", That will not only distract predators, But also stick to them, Making it easier for _their_ predators to catch them.
I spot a new deepsea video and I STOP my day for some minutes, fullscreen and earphones, to mentally float and dance in the dark along Sarah's narration! 🥰
+
It looks like an umbrella.
The umbrella not-squid
Loving the Halloween vibes for this episode!
spoooopy
Without question the most ASMR video about vampire squid I've ever watched.
I liked the slower paced narration, it fit the subject and environment.
Is this Jamie narrating from Animalogic?
I had to watch it on 3x speed
@@Bc232klm how did you get 3x speed?
It slows my metabolism while I'm listening to it
Babe wake up, a new bizarre beasts video dropped
Thank you and MBARI for another collaboration on these wonderful creatures. I always thought they were octopus. Now I know better.
And knowing is half the battle
G I JOEEEEE
This could be a Pokemon. A Water/Ghost or Water/Dark Pokemon based on the vampire squid would be very cool!
They'd rather create a trash pokemon or a stupid icecream type.
KingsleyIII that would be so cool
Reminds me of Inkay and Malamar!
@@DonMarzzoni let me guess... you think the pile of slime that evolved into a bigger pile of slime pokemon was genius? or did you like the pokeball that evolves into an upside down pokeball more? every generation has bad ones theres no point in pretending the newer ones are worse just for your nostalgia
@@JubioHDX everyone in the new generation is trash
Despite its name, the vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis) is neither a vampire or a squid, it is the sole living member of the order Vampyromorphida, which belongs to the superorder Octopodiformes, with the octopi (order Octopoda) being the closest living relatives of the vampire squid, squid are a wastebasket taxon within the superorder Decapodiformes, because the only members of the superorder Decapodiformes that aren't considered squid are cuttlefish (order Sepiida).
Nice
octopuses
My FAVORITE of cephalopods, and my third favorite animal! I really hope we get a pin and video of them someday.
Another fun fact: it has the largest eyes of all animals, relative to body size. And yes, it’s not octopus or squid, because it belongs in its own order of them (and it’s the the last extant of that order too).
3:45 Did anyone else imagine the cirru-alreadyforgotitsname closing its fleshy membranes and swimming into a vampire squid's open membrane, head first, then backing up, then in again, then backing up and then in again?
Just me? Cool.
Her narration is as beautiful and mesmerizing as the undulations of the vampire squid. ❤ Well done!
I adore vampire squids 🖤 what a perfect pick for spooky season!
I prefer this over the more energetic videos, it's rather calming
I like them both equally.
I love how ethereal, and spooky, her (Sarah's?) voice gets in these underwater episodes. it's so relaxing
I was thinking exactly the same thing.
@@jojogo22 lmao I can tell why you edited that. "she's too female" is what you said and it sounds unhinged
For me it's very irritating
Video: Vampire Squid
Me: Geology-nerding over those pillow lavas XP
we need a deep-sea pin club! :)
I adore vampire squids!! I’m so happy you guys made a video on them!!
You like squid? Educational youtube content? Criminally underrated channel? Try "The Octopus Lady" Deep dives on various interesting sea creatures.
narration: "look at how this haunting creature undulates"
vampire squid: * is a little guy *
Your voice is just so... Peaceful. Thank you.
Hi, another fun fact about these is that when very agitated, if turning into a angry pine cone didn't scare them off, they also shoot bioluminescent mucus at their attacker, leaving them blinded for a bit so they can't take up chase.
I actually prefer you speaking like this! Very relaxing and easy to listen to!
Sarah Suta is my ASMR Queen! 👑 Please narrate longer things like this.
Surely the bright lights of ROV's must blind the poor creatures
They’re already blind :) down that deep there is no light so most creatures down there no longer have vision because it’s unnecessary
I see nozzles in both the Vampire and the Cirroteuthid, BUT I've never seen either use jet to propel them selves, only the gentle flapping of their enlarged fins.
Your voice... is everything.
I remember watching a show about scientists searching for one of these guy in middle school, my mom was so mad because it was at late at night and I always struggled in the morning.
Appreciate the poetic oratory in relation to the whimsical soundscape .
You guys did a great job on this video but you should have mentioned that they’re great at surviving in anoxic conditions which has enabled them to survive for so long through the various extinctions faced by the denizens of the deep these past hundreds of millions of years
Most of us need the dead to survive. We don't call much of our food dead bodies. We call it meat.
Such a majestic creature. I could watch hours of footage of these things just existing, and be satisfied.
Thank humanity for the creation of them remote Deep Sea Submersible HD viewers! Or we would never have any footage of them to admire!!!!
Love these!! Thanks for the video!
You have such a coming voice. I love it.
I've been loving these new paced videos soooooo much, please keep them coming!
Your voice is so soothing
Fascinating that something with spikes on its grabby arms is basically a filter feeder
I remember watching a show about scientists searching for one of these guy in middle school, my mom was so mad because it was at late at night and I always struggled to get up in the morning.
Amazing video, awesome narration.
I love this channel and its not only the beautiful softspoken Lady
the narration is soooo good
An ancient lineage? well, that's pretty vampiric in my book.
My favorite sea creature and 3 days before my birthday w you shouldn't have
Happy birthday 🎈
Happy early birfday!
@@Hydrosized thank you have a good weekend
@@shifty1927 thank you . have a blessed day
This is my favorite show no doubt
Remember when PBS was known for it's educational content?
"Not a vampire...NOR a squid"
Love the new information
Hey cirri? Hey Cirri?!
Why is that thing so damn terrifying?!
I love everything about the vampire squid and this video 👏👏👏😸💕
Awesome.
Might as well be called the Bloody Baron then.
Wonderful
This sounds like an episode of 'Welcome to Nightvale'
I have seen a few watching Schmidt Ocean Institute live streams. Beautiful animal.
Dumbo squid too.

Yessss my boy
production style of this episode resembled that of "Journey into the microcosmos"
What is that at the very beginning? A weird rock? Cooled lava? Whale turds? Such an odd shape lol.
Might be a little late, but to me it does look like pillow lava
Just imagine being down there as a human
Love the floppy ears tho.
the Mood on this video.
Wow
Good Sushi for a pricy meal!
My favorite
Cephalopod 🔥
you should record audio books......great voice.
What audio system are you using? Mine leaves much to be desired. Thank you.
Best voice on the web...Sarah👂😘👂
It's called Vampire squid, because vampire octopus is not nearly as scary.
Neither vampire nor squid
where is this feeding filament located? does its cousin also have one?
It's the skin that connects the arms. It uses it like a net to catch the marine snow.
@@rasmusn.e.m1064 that's what I had always assumed. Maybe I misheard, but I thought the narrator mentioned a "feeding filament".
@@samhaines8228 they did, but I guess what you got caught up in the definition of 'feeding'. I assume they analogised it with the method of hunting of filter feeders, who use their primary feeding mechanism to also catch prey. That way the line between feeding and catching becomes blurred. I can see why that might be confusing when the vampire squid isn't using its primary feeding mechanism (its beak) to filter feed.
Sarah sounds like the broad from Animalogic
Such a beautiful narrating voice
🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙🐙 👍👏🏼
ce n'est pas un calmar
Ni une pieuvre
I really enjoy the tone and pace of these segments, but just once I’d love to hear the narrator absolutely lose her sh!t over something the camera captures. “Floating gently on the ocean currents, the gentle sea panda sifts through the ocean snow for … holy crap! What the f was that?! Was that a claw?”
You've been watching too much zefrank.
@@keithfaulkner6319 is there such a thing as too much? ;)
@@MrIan1086 no i guess not.
Ah, what you want is to watch the original footage from Nautilus Live! The footage is wonderful, but it is also extremely fun to hear all the scientists loose their minds over all the critters swimming into view. All the videos we used are linked in our description box!

@@BizarreBeasts I'll check it out!
Fun fact: they are not real vampires either.

Every ACNH player 🙃🙃🙃
This is ASMR lol
If you put this at 1.5 speed she actually talks at a normal talking speed
NOPE.
So the nautilus gets no recognition???
Watch this to fall asleep
I had to watch this on 3x speed.
It can be really beneficial to slow down for a few minutes every now and then.
@@auroraourania7161 I do.
@@auroraourania7161 Thank you for the reminder though, we need to keep that in mind as life passes us by.
Got halfway through when the delivery cost me the will to live
It needs a better name. It's not a vampire. It's not a squid.
how tf does this have 2 views but 8 likes
For me it has 2 views and 2 likes(one from me) 🤔
I'm not certain, but I'm guessing views count when the video ends (or someone skips it), likes can be done at the start of the video.
Bots
How do you think views are counted? Clicks on the video? Views of the full video? Number of people who have seen most of it? Sum of all viewed minutes divided by the length of the video? If 100 people started the video, 1 already watched it to the end with 1.5 speed, 20 paused it, 30 closed it, 5 of them after a few seconds, 10 in the middle, 15 short before the end, 3 skipped to the last third directly and one watched the first minuted 10 times but not the rest, how many views would that be? How many of them have watched an ad (which is why views are relevant in the end)?
On how many backend servers is the video distributed? How many different servers are counting those stats? How often do they synchronize their counts?
It's complicated.
The other commenters are right that what counts as a "view" isn't as obvious as it might seem, but also these counts aren't updated in real time because most of the time it doesn't matter exactly how many views and likes a video has, an approximation is fine, but that does lead to strange looking behavior when a video first launches
I guess this ASMR thing is taking off now huh.
Watch at 1.25 speed
Have they locked eyes in the deep? Wtf can you guys be normal
Why is the narration trying to be asmr? The show is much better with an awake narrator.
It sure is calming though, I just miss the narrator being more “awake” as you said in their older videos.
It's the reason why I stopped watching journey to the microcosmos. The footage is amazing but Hank's calm voice was very distracting.
She sounds like a hypnotist trying to put you in a trance.
Try watching on double speed.
Agree to disagree, I love these differently paced videos (But in fairness, I do watch all my videos at 2x speed)
I get the ASMR type calmness your voice and reading is trying to portray....but it bores me and I zone out.
Can't stand the script
what a fake fan
I love the channel, I love the visuals and I love the informative content but what is with the weird ASMR delivery? It weirds me out, but not it a good way, more like I feel like changing to a different video kinda way...
Felt this was less informative than some of the other entries. I wasn't a fan of the narration tempo, but it's clear many others were. So it goes.
