- To make long distance space travel possible, we need to figure out how to hibernate. But we're primates, and primates just can't do that! Or can we...?

Is no one going to mention how that man at 2:11 just picked a lemur out of the ground like a potato?
It don’t look ripe enough, you gotta harvest em when they stop wriggling. 🤠
Little guy was very surprised by the destruction of his hole and subsequent man handling.
Hummingbirds seem like a great Bizarre Beast -- nightly torpor led to them being seen as a symbol of immortality, as they seem dead until the sun warms them in the morning. Flying backwards, their diet, tiny size, they seem pretty Bizarre to me! And they'll make for awesome pins, too!
Also, they're surprisingly aggressive and fight over territory in impressive aerial battles. The Aztecs believed warriors who died in battle came back as hummingbirds.
"We don't have the same kind of ability to store fat..."
Brave words, this soon after Thanksgiving!
* pats belly *
I have a vast ability to do so.... unfortunately.
So much bizarreness going on with prosimians! The slow lorises' venom, the sifakas' arboreal and terrestrial forms of locomotion, and the aye-aye's... everything... are all worth getting their own dedicated episodes somewhere down the line.
I’m not surprised.
*Mort is immortal*
Love lemurs, almost as much as I love Bizarre Beasts! Please include this critter as one in your next sticker collection! ❤️
We love lemurs too! :)
Reptiles also tend to store fat in their tails, so there has to be some evolutionary pressure that pushes for that
The same reptiles that shed their tails as a defense mechanism? Almost seems like they're trying to make their tails more appetizing to predators than the rest of their body.
Raccoons and fat tailed dunnarts too
This paper has been haunting me since I started my master's on bat arousal literally just one month ago, and now even this channel is talking about it! This all coinciding with the first time I've ever researched torpor is crazy for me
What the hell are you doing to arouse a bat???
I can’t get enough Bizarre Beasts.. everything from the critters to the hosts, just an awesome cavalcade of info, images + critters. Plus I’d like to make a background like those beautiful trees in the background. Keep up the great job y’all!!
A comment including the word "cavalcade" = instant like.
Could Bizarre Beasts do the Pangolin? A highly endangered species of scaly mammal endangered due to wildlife trafficking. Three facts, long tongue, scaly mammal , related to big cats classification wise. Some information is unknown due to how endangered they are, but needs more awareness...
Oooh, yea please!! They’re so cool
They’re my favorite!
Could you do an episode on the spotted hyena? That’s a bizarre beast for sure!
The unspotted hyena might be even more bizarre. Nobody really knows.
@@PabloSanchez-qu6ib lol
The ardwolf, a related species is also a good mention, but nonetheless spotted hyenas are arguably the coolest species in the world with their unique attributes.
The 2:11 rude wake-up is priceless. Just five more minutes, dad!
Yea there’s a lot of research into brown adipose tissue and diabetes. Or just adipose tissue and diabetes. It’s a strong field. I come across it a lot bc I used to help research a type II mitigation technique as an undergrad and I still get updates on the ongoing research in the field.
"But I can't do that (hibernate), at least not naturally" Don't you tell me what to do! I'll stuff my face with as much garbage as I can grab, crawl under my blanket like an inchworm and stay there. Wake me up in May.
"one hurdle we would have to get over is our brain" that could also be some good dating advise :D
...I don't get it.
Yes, actually growing one.
Looks like Hank's tiktoks about hibernation and torpor made their way into the script lol
We thought he was memeing but he was playing the long game.
I would love to see an episode on shoebill storks at some point! They are the coolest looking bird out there imo 😊
+
So we should instead store large amounts of fat in our tail regions too?! :D
Some people already do that.
Thicc
Lizard lemurs!
Or:
Fat-tailed lemur girls make the fat-tailed dwarf lemur's Madagascar-world go round!!!
LmMFaO! ;) :P :o)
Slow Loris! lol I love them. These Lemurs are very cute too ❤
4:56 That's right, genetically engineered catgirls (and boys) is the answer for long distance space travel
I allways had a feeling
Furries were right all along.
@@1zebbe3 Legit human tails happen on occasion, and let me tell you, seeing a tail without fur is just...whack
These are the cutest damn lemurs I've ever seen.
Oh my goodness, they're adorable! ✨✨✨
Who's to say humans can't hibernate naturaly? Uncle Jim has been asleep for 2 months now! Oh wait... never-mind he's in a coma.
The music in this episode was INCREDIBLE!! Really added to the experience, super entertaining, and very fun!
I watched a documentary on extreme weather a while back. It stated that human baby's are known to go into a torpor when exposed to extreme cold.
An elegant, and well spoken beauty presenting interesting topics - very hard not to love!
I'd rather hibernate during allergy season. Winter is great.
"It may hold the secret to long distance space travel"
My brain: those lemurs have warp drive technology? 😱
I love bizarre beats!
After a succesfull season of commiting war crimes, Mort goes to sleep
i too am a primate desperately in need of a vacation somewhere tropical
Great video, very interesting and altogether too cute.
Really wish i could sign up but i assume it costs, love the sci show and related channels just for the educational value and the fact that you guys provide it for free though. Keep up the great work y'all!!
I wish they would stop pullin' these little fellas out of holes. They're sleeping, put them back!
Yay!! So excited for these little guys. The artist did a great job
Animalogic and Bizarre Beasts videos in the same day!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely love this channel
Since the pandemic I think I have slipped into torpor as well. /s Pretty much everything in my life has come to a halt.
Honestly, it would probably be great for the planet if half of the human population went to sleep half the year. Not because of resources or stuff like that; Just so that there's less noise.
A great series with a fun speaker.
Joo this sounds like my depression sleeps... right before winter and the festive season starts i always get depressed and just... stop eating not hungry sleep 14 to 18 hours a day and only eat propperly when i have to work that day. But i go 3 to 4 days without propper food and just you know, tea and sugar
Sounds to me like we need to re-develop a tail. XP
Tail fat -- LOVE IT.
Can you talk about the scaly-foot snail next? :^)
That makeup and hairstyle looks awesome on you.
Yay! It’s Sarah! ❤️ (sorry Hank 😂)
If only there were any rainforests left in Madagasgar where these fascinating creatures could thrive..
Please make a video on okapis!
I thought Hydrogen sulfide was our best chance for hibernation in space travel? Have we given up on that and research on the hydrogen sulfide genetic scar?
Also for survival off stored fat, we are the only greater primate who has an abundance of white fat and very little brown so would be best suited for it if not for the brain problem. Even in an induced coma you would need alot of stored energy and you would also have to start Ketosis before hand to protect organ muscle, the ketones produced would actual raise brain metabolism as well so that doesn't help.
Cool!
I thought this was about Cube Escape based on the thumbnail alone
Cool.
My husband says he could do long distant space travel because he can sleep for extended periods of time.... each and every day, and can easily gain large amounts of body fat. I'd be no good as my sleep is in short bursts, but my body fat has never been a problem to gain.
Do or did the natives eat the tails of these lemurs when the dry season approaches?
I couldd imagine it being a tempting source of energy.
"Interbout arousal" sounds like what participants of flirty fight scenes experience between matches :D
I’m getting serious Ms. Frizzle vibes! (That’s a compliment, obviously)
Same.
So in order to go to space we need a fat tail
_I don’t want to hibernate if it keeps me from sleeping._
I like her voice.
Madagascar is p deforested, I hope these lil guys are around long enough for research to be done. I wonder if size is part of the hibernation issue? Considering the only other primate candidate is a pygmy as well.
Talk about junk in the trunk!😂😂🤣😍
Big fan of the hair style.
Is your background a green screen or is it paper
It's a real set that Sarah and a friend built! It's made of several layers of painted wood + some fancy led lights. -NS
@@BizarreBeasts that’s nice
You should do an episode about african lungfish
I think you exaggerated winter ...it's April to August...and that's pushing it. It's usually may to July.
You could have said the dry season April to October would make sense
Do they hibernate or aestivate?
The future of space travel: cankles.
Sounds like sleeping sickness. The one that was temporarily treated with L dopa. Viral hibernation
sooooo...does that I mean I get a tail?
My tail has tons of fat, just really short.
Huh who knew Mort kept the
so... ...for space travel reasons, we should genetically modify humans to have long tails where we can safely store fat. 🤔
you win this round, furries!
😍
would the act of a human going to sleep each night technically be torpor? don't our bodies do a similar thing where our body's resources are running at a lower power to preserve/regain energy?
some people have a medical issue where they go into a "deeper fourth sleep stage of sleep like REM sleep", where some people will even lose control of their bladders, but it's never a well rest in the 4th stage
🤔
ooooh~
Anyone else also thinks she sounds like Danielle from Animalogic?
Huh, So, Cardi B is actually trying to hibernate?
I like fat tails and I cannot lie.
Too fast!
I know! Throughout the whole thing I was like, "is it just me or it seems like they're going warp speed in this episode?"
Fat in the tails, aka junk in the trunk.
Ohhh.... so it's not an ability to fold space and time with their minds, then... Lost a bet.
Not that we need to start eating more animals but I bet those fat tails would be great for soup stock. mmmm soup.
I sort of miss the old title and thumbnail format. It made this channel more unique.
Speak for yourself! Tropics are hell on earth, for me. I prefer autumn and winter, cold and dark.
You look like Molly in RDR2
LOL! Yeah.., good luck with that! Might be, we don't, we don't know, we haven't figured out, we only have to, LMFAO! Go Science!
So to make long distance space travel possible we need to genetically engineer humans that can hibernate, have tails and store fat in their tails rather than around their organs?
I must be prosimian bc I’m pretty sure I hibernate. I store fat from sugar in my butt not my tail tho.
Holy hell! The editing of this video was TERRIBLE!
Nearly all the sentences were all on top of one another.
I was probably the most stressful video I've seen on this channel, being so rushed!
📍🦷🪲🦷📍
Jesus loves you ♥️💙💜🧡
Everyone else thinks you're a .......
you transitioned well
Dear people of Madagascar, please do not destroy your precious environment for the sake of unregulated modernization. Thank you.
You woke me up to tell me THIS????
Some humans have the ability to store fat: those who usually eat at Maccas.
I am having a interbout arousal moment😁Nice to see you whip-smart😎
Thumbs up for fat tails.
I have to stop watching the video because of the very irritating background music .
OK, see ya.
