My simple answer is discipline. Have a disciplined lifestyle. Exercise for 20 mins when you get home. Have a snack for 10 mins but unpakc your things first. Write any notes from class and do practice papers if time permits, finish hw (play light music if you are good at it). once done, plan for next day and take 30mins-1 hr to relax
I went to a school in the 300s and I was bottom half in all my subjects. Although when I watched this video I found out that fundamentals are truely the deciding factor. I now got an atar of 95.25 🎉
@@ande5090your atar is your ranking against all students across victoria for your subjects, it’s affected by scaling based on subjects and also a little bit based on how your cohort does
Starting atar after these school holidays. I've spent so much time stressing over finding the perfect study techniques after teachers had us do multiple seminars and drilled into our heads the importance of Cornell notes, colour codes, etc. While these techniques do help, it's really comforting to hear that good grades are mostly just about determination, which I'm sure I can muster up with enough stress, and trusting your own process. Thank you for this.
Very helpful video as always! Yes - I have realised that the key to studying is efficiency and consistency. There's no use adopting certain study techniques if you are not efficient and consistent. Of course that is easier said than done, but overcomplicating it definitely does not help. Many thanks 🙏
You know, thinking back on my past study experiences, you are right about the flow state. Comparing forcing myself to watch a lecture to actually sitting down focused and doing work without flashy techniques, getting into the flow state really helped. I was able to learn so much more by understanding the topic then forcing myself to memorise it. Getting into the state made time pass, allowed me to understand better and I felt great after the study session.
I just started yr 12 ATAR very early at the school I go to and honestly, this is the best study video I've watched yet, those 'study techniques' always overwhelmed and confused me, this makes so much sense
Yea agreed, consistency is often what is the most challenging - so I will have a future video covering some tips because it is a skill that can be trained
What happens if i just do one hour per subject every day in the flow state. For example, 1 hour of math in the morning. 1 hour of biology and 1 hour of chemistry in the afternoon. That would be effective right?
Yep that is perfectly fine - I usually just don't go over 4hrs across all my subjects unless it is close to a SAC / exam. So this means that I don't study all 6 of my subjects in one day, instead I only typically do 3-4 subjects at maximum (which equates to 3-4 hours maximum a day)
@@adamalmir5214 I would definitely try to balance it with other subjects unless the assignment was due to next day - otherwise there should be time to spread it across a couple of days
Hi I had a question. In my first EI SAC I got only 30% which was well below the lower half ranking. Can I still get a 50 study score if I give my all in other assignments. Btw that SAC counts for 7.5% of the grade and it is school assessed
Yep it is definitely possible - just keep in mind the study habits and techniques that lead to that result in the first place. Although it is possible, it is worth reflecting on what improvements you can make to score higher in the upcoming assignments.
im currently moving into grade 11 and feel kind of lost. im a korean guy currently studying in gold coast. i found myself concentrating when needed but the time is not effective i cannot finish the content on the grade 11 math methods exercise like for example exercise 7E. it takes me to finish one for two hours or more. and english i find myself hard start writing even if i know what im going to write. i feel so lost and feel like im not going to do well in grade 11. what should i do to keep on track for the last two weeks i got before the school.
Hi I recently started watching your video and find it really help full can you please make video on vce English EAL like how to ace it and other stuff thanks
Thanks for the suggestion - a video about english is definitely on the cards, although it probably will focus more on vce english since that was the only english subject that I did. I know there is some overlap between mainstream and EAL, so in the meantime, there may be some videos in this playlist you may find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/I5iKHU558zI/v-deo.html
Year 8 is a great time to start trialing out different study routines and seeing which ones work for you Also - I would personally try and study for at least 1hr a day - that is an amazing habit to get into and it will really set you up for the future - focus on english and try your best to improve since this is the subject that everyone finds challenging in year 12 All the best!
Hey im heading into yr 12 this year and i am worried for my atar because i did research project A and got a b in it. How much will this affect my atar?
