Trust me , I know rear end ! That 7.5 can only handle up to 300hp at best and that is actually pushing it to the limit so don't push it or you find yourself back at the junk yard searching for another one ! Anything over 300hp , I recommend you going with a 12 bolt . .... good luck with it ! Peace !
Did the g body 7.625 (7 5/8) come with 28 spline axles? I know I've lived a 7.625 out of a 86 Monte Carlo SS and it was a hell of a lot heavier than the 7.5 I had a posi and 3.73 gears in. That was the only thing I could figure out, but the 373 in the 86 7 and 8 has 28 spline axles in them already. I would know for sure but I never did pull the cover off and pop an axle to count one.
Hey....are you changing the pinion bearing races on the Gbody rear end when installing the pinion from the camaro? Or do they match up fine? also do the stock shims from the gbody work also? Thanks for the great video!

Best not to run an old posi if you plan on hitting the drag strip pretty regularly. The week clutch system in the posi is too inefficient and wear out easily. Besides, putting the car's power to the wheel with the least traction never made any sense to me. Your advice is good advice as most people don't know much about center sections. * Ring Gear
The best posi for a G-body is a GN 8.5 rearend or a mustang 8.8 any sticky tires and hard launches never seem to work out well with a 7.5 rearend if it's got a 3000rpm stall or bigger and over 400hp at crank it will break how do l know l have one now for over 35 years and know from experience it now has a buick GN 8.5 with a 3000rpm stall 4:10 gears and a LS engine pushing 540hp at crank my old setup a 400hp 350 broke the 7.5 rearend with a 3000rpm stall and MT 275/60r15 drag radials 19 years ago the buick GN rearend is still working great and has gone 10.97 at 122mph in the quarter mile on the motor and street drive it most nice weekends
@@YoungerPrice got you l got one from a wrecked 1986 buick GN in 2002 for 700 dollars with 48,000 miles plus 125 dollars shipping l changed the gearing from 3.42 to 4.10 for my 1984 Monte Carlo ss in 2008 it was LS swapped with a 6.0 LS2 with CNC ported L-92 heads and a 600 lift hydraulic roller cam new crate engine from Scoggin Dickey performance parts center in 2008 it has a GM single plane intake holley HP 850 carb and 1 7/8 longtube headers transmission is a built 700r4 with a 3000rpm lockup stall converter from vigilante connected to a GN 8.5 rearend with 4.10 gears the best so far on motor only was 10.97 at 122mph in the quarter mile the engine makes 540hp at crank at 6900rpm and 470 torque at 5200rpm I've owned the car since new it went from a 305 to a 350 to a 383 and now this LS2 setup since 2008 still runs as good as the day it was put in this engine makes 400 foot pounds of torque or more from 3500RPM to 7200rpm it pulls very hard and is driven 30 miles to the track and back after making passes streetable and has power steering and brakes
@@YoungerPrice a ford 8.8 can had fairly cheap 400-700 dollars they are good will fit from a mustang foxbody to a g-body with the right offset rear wheels but it's a pain in the ass to weld spring perches to make it work brake and brake line headaches it's really close to GMs 12 bolt probably even better for durability and they made millions junkyards should have many to choose and pick from 1985 - 2004 mustang GTs had them
A lot of people discredit the 10 bolt, Ive been 11.2 on one, it eventually broke a spider gear spraying a 200 shot on the street, but they are plentiful. Got version 3 in the car now. Ive got 2 of those TZ's that are cracked near the window sitting on the destruction shelf. As long as your not dead hooking on slicks they seem to hold up decent
Putting the 373 gears in tomorrow but kinda doubtful about the axle. They are longer than the original axle. Will it still work? Came out a 00 Ponitac firebird. I grab the posi and the axle both.
You sir know your shit! Its great to see someone with some actual 7.5 inch knowledge. You're not gunna snap them with typical street levels of power and you didnt suggest the cheapo option of slapping in a spool, which will snap those tiny little axles! haha
I just joined the Gbody family last week with a woodie 82 Malibu Wagon, though Ive been doing research over the past year and fretting over this fabled weak rear end. Then you see some people actually throwing some shit around on them and realize they arent half as bad as everyone says they are once the spline teeth numbers are increased. I put one of these in my 97 S10 4.3L 5speed. No more gettin stuck on wet grass. LOL Those G80 Gov-Lok carriers are a peice of crap. The clutches only last 70 -80k miles. Then you have an open differential. These will probably last for the life of the vehicle.

Those rearends will hold 600hp all day long I've done it myself and I've twisted Moser axels and still didn't break the rearend

The Z or 6 cyl have the same diff. Just make sure it has positive and the gears you want. I found a 3.42 from a V6.

Yess, need to make sure wat what series you have it was a two series and a 3 Series on had a very very thick ring gear

Monte carlos didn't come with 8.5 .yess 8.5 is great but hard to find this for the guys with a mild build thst dont need a 8.5
