I have a question.. I’m beefin up the rear on my 85 cut now (7.5/26spline axles).. I have 28 spline axles from qp and a mini spool I’m gonna rock out with for the mean time. Can I keep the carrier that my 7.5 already has and install the 28 splines right in?
What’s a good parts car/truck can I get for a rear end that can go in a 1987 MONTE CARLO LUXURY SPORT on 30 inch rims. I’d rather go to a junkyard and pull it than buy one. The 30 inch rims is too big for my current rear end. I really don’t understand rear ends yet. Please help.🤣🤣🤣🤣
If I’m not mistaken your monte should be stock with 3:73. Maybe regear to a 4:10? But then you would need an overdrive transmission. Honestly you’ll just have to do your own research. Most of the g-body’s that had the bigger rearend with posi you’ll never see in a junkyard
I was worried at first about my 7.5 not holding up with my new 355 double hump heads flattop pistons 10.5 CR. 3000 stall. Im under 400 hp. The car wont see the track or slicks. I did want a 125 shot installed but that may be pushing it.
@UCVQ02mmy5iZHApqPpqEFfyQ glad to hear it's holding up. Everyone keep screaming Ford 9" at me. My uncle told me i should be good with the 7.5 unless you spray it(Old school). Im not tho. He told me to put a set of gears in it (3.73), keep your wheel height about 26"-28"and have fun with it.
@@shaun4bigblocks993 my cam requires at least a 2800 stall and 3.73 or lower gear. I did buy 8.5 28 spline Moser axles and a posi carrier. I have everything except the NOS kit. I bought aluminum heads too.
Just to correct something you said, Monte Carlo SS never came with a 8.5. only the grand national and 442 olds came with them. They did get a 7.625 after 85 or 86 which from what I understand is still just a 7.5. I have heard the 1988 7.625 had 28 spline axles, but I can't confirm that. Why did GM not go ahead and put the 8.5 under the Monte Carlo super sports?
Good video. I have a 79 el camino. Just built a 383 412hp motor for it. I dont know much about rear ends. I have 3.73 gears and want to keep that the same. I just dont want to burn up my right rear tire. What do you recommend I get
Sorry I assumed you knew I was talking about a posi conversion. I have a stock 7.5 10 bolt in good condition on my 79 el camino. I'm wanting to keep my gear ratio the same. Do I just need to get a new carrier? Which ones do you recommend
Allan Smith yes get a new posi carrier. Your ring will bolt right into it and you can use your pinion. You should have 26 spline axles but pull them first and double check. So that means you want a series 3 carrier since you have 3:73’s,which is for 3:23 and larger gear ratios.make sure that its for a 7.5 26 spline assuming yours is 26. As for the brand mine was from summit, can’t remember exact brand. It’s a night and day difference to have posi, feels like a totally different car. Just make sure you set your lash correctly! Good luck

Awesome thank you for the good help here. I'm going to have this done on my 92 astro. I don't have anyplace to do it myself. COOL!

Allan Smith are you wanting recommendations for axel or gears or tires?

You need boots on and safety goggles if you are doing the repair. Hell even if you are just doing a all talk video. 😎
blackmike0071 yea it was just a talk video that day. I was waiting on parts so I decided to make a video while I was bumming around the garage lol
