Indeed. Its been ages since I recorded this and still watching over and over. Can't believe I was there mere feet away from that perfect impact. Over and over again as if it was NOTHING!
I have watched this clip a few times and just noticed on his first shots with the wedge warmup - no divots with perfect impact - it must have been a sight to see him hit balls live. Does he ever miss?
Moe didn't miss a fairway for 6 years....he once used the same tee for 4 years. Moe played a lot with George Knudsen (incredible iron player, 8 PGA wins) and they'd bet on EVERYTHING. $$. One bet was $100. for every pin hit. In one round, Moe hit 6 pins. For fun, in tournaments, Moe would occasionally tee off with a wedge and hit into the green with his driver, for par or birdie. Lee Trevino said it best....'somebody should have taken Moe under his wing, he would have cleaned up on the tour' He wasn't a country club boy, no one helped him, they even chastised him. Golf lost something very special. He returned home. 41 course records, 3@59, 4@61. Hole-in-ones became boring, he lost count.
At 7:03 Moe says he keeps his "hands out of it". For his next shot at 7:27 you can see that most of his swing is just hands. If you use the "," and "." you can move backwards and forwards frame by frame and you can clearly see that most of his swing is perfectly timed hands. His hands start moving when the arms are right before the ball which creates all the speed. The closer your arms are to the ball when you start moving your hands the more accurate and harder you will hit the ball, which is proper coordination. The rest of the movement is only to get aligned to the target and that is what Moe does so well, primarily by reducing rotation by a wide stance and being short and not by keeping is "hands out of it". Don't listen to what golfers say about their swing, watch what they do.
I can tell you one thing. All the comments in the world and observations don’t really come close to actually being there that day and watching him hit ball after ball effortlessly while talking and joking and watching those ball land in the exact same 6 foot circle no matter what club he was hitting. Seriously not one stray. Who do you know who has golf balls who can say that? Not hit one shank well you’re surrounded by people talking laughing and joking. Talk about the pressure on. He was the calmest guy I’ve ever seen in front of a crowd.
Thanks, Tom, for sharing this memorable video of the amazing Moe Norman. just out of curiosity, any idea what brand golf clubs Moe used in this clinic?
This observation has come up before. There is really very little point in showing the ball flight when the ball goes exactly the same every time and perfectly straight. You could literally walk out into the field and throw a hula hoop around his balls. There’s nothing to be learned by watching the golf ball fly into the same path and landing the same spot every time. The lesson is in watching the man swing the club. Watching his Takeaway. Watching his position at the top. Watching his finish. Watching his balance. You learn how to swing the club by watching the person with the perfect swing swing the club. Not watching where this ball goes as soon as he hits it and never seeing him finish. I mean seriously what is there to be learned by watching the ball travel 195 yards in the straight line every time and land almost in the exact same spot? You want to see the person who hit it and learn how they did it.
@tomkowalsky didn't say show every shot. I know the purpose of a Moe vid. But we don't even see once if it's where it is. And it would be fun to see when he intentionally hooks and slices. All of that can be shown while still mainly showing and focusing his swing.
Yes, absolutely and straight as an arrow unless he called it. He would say now a gentle fade and then do exactly that. And then he would say now a big hook and do exactly that. Now I’m going to lift it up and it’s gonna fall gently and roll less than 5 yards and bingo. It would do that. Now I’m playing into the wind he would announce And then punch a shot that would roll just as far as a good drive. Astounding performance of ball, striking ability that afternoon, never to be forgotten.
I did notice that , but isn’t he actually going from short Clubs to longer Clubs ? So with the wedge 9 8 and seven iron I’m usually a little more open. But as I get to the longer Clubs , I usually close my stance a bit to try and square up the blade. Does that make any sense?
More is so inspiring and awesome! Wish I had half his talent and all his enthusiasm. I’d be a plus handicap golfer. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

@@tomkowalsky you're probably correct. I was just shocked to see it.
Just a freak show
Rip moe you were genius.
Sure Was!
Wish they would show his ball travel sometimes. I realize it was a while back not multiple video cams everywhere. But still.
A simple genius.
Indeed. Thanks for watching
Where you able to see his call flight in person? If so was every ball going perfectly straight?
Yes, absolutely and straight as an arrow unless he called it. He would say
now a gentle fade and then do exactly that.
Have any of you noticed Moo's foot position starts open and then becomes closed towards the end of his practice round?
I did notice that , but isn’t he actually going from short Clubs to longer Clubs ? So with the wedge 9 8 and seven iron I’m usually a little more open. But as I get to the longer Clubs , I usually close my stance a bit to try and square up the blade. Does that make any sense?
@@tomkowalsky Makes sense, Hogan did the same
Best !¡!!!!
Thank you for watching.
Unreal
Filmed in Manitoba! Fckin Eh! Nobody loved golf more than Moe Norman!
Thats for SURE. Man he loved hitting balls
No Glove ??? Hands of steel
The glove is an up-sell of the highest proportions. $30 every four rounds at best. Spare me.
