- Too many people get confused over what the different subgenres of metal are, this video shows the difference between 9 of the more predominant styles of metal, Heavy, Power, Thrash, Black, Death, Doom, Progressive, Folk and Symphonic Metal.
... yes there are more subgenres than that, but they are usually more or less spawn from the genres in the video, The 9 main genres of Metal.

Also Voivod, one of the most important yet underrated progressive metal bands of all time. Also Sci-Fi themed, check out the album Nothingface (or if you are feeling a bit brave go with the old stuff and listen to Killing Technology)

Nu metal is actually an alternative genre, not metal.
@@cbiscuit4666 It isn't, though. Korn said they weren't a metal band, and their influences were more based in alternative rock. To me, nu metal is some twisted love-child/grandchild of grunge and industrial rock. In fact, nu metal was similar to what the grunge scene was in a lot of ways.
There are basically no "metal riffs" in nu metal, and it's the down-tuned guitars which fool listeners.
Heaviness does not have to = metal.
Calling it "nu metal" was 100% a marketing gimmick.
