      I was a big fan of his because of my Mom. I had a poster of Elvis and wanted him to autograph it, so I rolled up a poster of his, put his address on the tube, and took it to the mailbox where the mailman actually took it from my hand.
      When I got home a minute or two after I handed the poster off to the mailman, my Mom told me it was just reported Elvis had died. What are the odds?!
      I never got that poster back, either.

    I really feel for Jason, a fine musician who, just for his last name, is expected to play like his father. It is not any musician’s job to sound like or emulate any other. His dad had otherworldly skills at the drumset, and a style so perfectly crafted it will never be duplicated. If Jason’s last name was Smith, he would be a very busy drummer, working at perhaps a slightly lower pay grade, but receiving the respect he is due without all the hype.

    I was just listening to Zeppelin's first three albums today and reminiscing about seeing them at Knebworth in 79. As the English say, it was magic because the concert had so many bands playing all day long and then Zeppelin came on as it got dark. I heard they weren't happy with their performance but I heard nothing but the roar of the 100,000+ audience! A reunion tour isn't necessary. How do you ever top Everest? Just amazing musicians and I thought to myself after listening to just their first three albums, this was only the beginning!

  • @polara01
    @polara01 5 років тому +29

    All four of Zeppelins members were incredible in their own way and together their magic was 10 times greater than any one of them by themself and that was what was so special about Zeppelin and that's why Robert was adamant about never continuing without John and it would be good if Howard would give them all credit for what they did because in the past he had bashed them all as being one of the biggest rip-offs and thieves of other people's music of all time which I think if Howard really understood everything they did he would realize that that was really not right to categorize them like that. When they started out they did alot of copies simply because they had to come up with an album right away and they were only together for a month or two so the thing is as the band progressed they wrote more and more of their own material and that's how almost all bands went on as they progressed so to bash them like that as he did when that Stairway to Heaven issue came out about how Page took that riff and turned it into one of the greatest anthems in rock history I think that was a bit unfair and this is what I tell everybody you can take any of those original songs from the original artist and play them side-by-side with the Zeppelin version and I would say 99.9% of people would never listen to the original version again so yes they should have given credit a little earlier and all that sort of thing but the real villains with all of that stuff in my opinion were the record companies who literally raped those black artists and left them hanging out to dry without any royalties at all for their music so in a way Zeppelin did them all of favor because ironically they probably made more money through Zeppelin paying them what they deserved then their own record labels possibly... Anyways, Jason is an awesome guy and his father would be very proud of him continuing his legacy like this he's one of the few children of rock stars that actually grew up to be a hell of a good person and seems so grounded with a good head on his shoulders...a real chip off the old block Jason is in character as well as a great artist himself. Peace, Bob M.

    It's not so much that John was a "heavy hitter" as much as he had a lot of snap to his playing. He knew how to hit hard, but light if that makes sense? Maybe you have to be a drummer to understand what I'm saying. You didn't see John breaking heads and cymbals all over the place. He really knew how to swing correctly.

      One listen to Fool in the Rain tells you how much swing and feel he had.

      Can speak as a bassist, a drummer "heavy hitting" by itself is meaningless. Bonham had power, but it was just the gasoline for everything else that made up the car. Skill, technique, and a great ear were what he really had.

    I play only 3 songs on drums. Song Remains The Same. Achilles Last Stand. When The Levee Breaks. I mastered them by ear then sold my drumset. Thank you John Bonham.

    As much as it hurts to lose the music that could have been, the decision to avoid reforming another incarnation = best possible decision.
    I love how they remain flawlessly loyal to Bonzo. It's right on so many levels.

    People to this day still do not understand how much of a loss Bonzo was to Robert Plant. There is no Led Zeppelin without John Bonham. The one off was just a conjuring up of some of their old magic. One last spell from the greatest band that has ever played rock and rock.

    Am I the only one who wishes that Jason would put BONHAM back together. Damn that was a good band.
