- Just off tour with Guns N’ Roses and the completion of his new album, 4, by Slash feat. Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators, Slash makes time to sit on the couch with Jimmy and Jeff to talk about everything from musical influences to BMX racing.
Slash’s outsized influence on guitars players and the rock landscape is well known, but in this episode of Jeff Garlin and Jimmy Vivino’s Couch of Guitars, we get to hear how his mother and father’s album collections influenced him as a kid growing up in the UK and in the US, the origin of his passion for playing guitar, and what it was like working with Bob Dylan and Michael Jackson.

Let slash speak
That's what I thought lol
Yeah! The guy with the guitar kept speaking over Slash! Missed who they were talking, a singer that worked with George Benson and her daughter?
@@kevinn6554 yeah were they talking about maya rudolph?
@@rohankhemraj Yup 😊
Christ, What is Garlin hopped up on?!
No wonder he's lost the weight! Acting like he's drinking amphetamine milkshakes! Let Slash friggin' speak!
How did slash not lose his shit over these guys interrupting him everytime he speaks
whos the dude in to the right of slash?!!! geez is he the star? i hit this video to listen to what slash had to say!
Jeff Garlin can’t help himself. He’s the worst on podcasts.
Beck and Page are the only Jimmy and Jeff that count.
He's s chilled dude that why..
Think Slash always been that way tbh when you got Axl around you FFS would have been ww3 from start and yeah I know it was at times but thats why they lasted long as the they did...
@@AB-C1 LMFAO best one yet , u put up w axl u can put up w anyone
Jeff Garlin won't stop talking, this should just be Jimmy and a guest
When you get shut out of a conversation and you use volume to try and get back in...
Let the guest speak, goddammit. Make sure there's no episode 4 until you get better hosts.
Slash seems so laid back, would love to meet him one day 😎
Why is Jeff even there?
He doesn't even play electric guitar! Weird choice for a host
Slash is such a humble guy. He was calm to hear both of the hosts.
Would you guys just let Slash talk every now and then?
I’m sorry but the interviewers are horrible… man let the Guitar legend talk without talking over him !!!!!! Damn
So glad to see slash in an environment where he doesn’t have to behave as if he’s being interviewed... just laid back talkin shit
And being interupted every fucking time he speaks
I like to hear Slash talking about his life and career. I like to hear Slash play Guitar even messing about unplugged. I get it I would be very excited in conversation with a hero of mine too. Tweaking the boundaries on this show wouldn't hurt fellas. I know you can do it after all your hearts are in it. 😎
I never liked GNR, thought they were tacky, but in my more mature years I’m actually learning guitar properly (instead of being a grunge head) and I appreciate it all much more. He also seems like a nice laid back guy. Great interview. I actually didn’t mind the hosts talking a lot.
You missed out on maybe the best pure rock n roll ever made
@@mr.smithgnrsmith7808 gnr isn’t my favourite but slash makes the notes count.
"i never liked GNR" man no one cares
Best guitars out there- you guys are killing it my slash signature is the best guitar I’ve ever owned.
Completely agree. It's not about you Jeff Garlin! You brought a guest on the show - let him talk!
Jeff's that kid at school who asks you to sleepover everyday until you say yes.
New subscriber. Only thing that I agree with that someone else already said. Let slash speak. Yes interjection happens with interviews it's part of the territory. I'm just noticing a question gets asked and it's 20 questions before he gets the first word. Other than that just a fan of backstories especially ones with music. 🤘🎩
Awesome, love Slash he’s such a genuine down to earth man 🤟
Awesome to see Slash in good shape and still doing the damn thing man. Fk'n legend of music, and STILL makes me want to pick up the guitar and play every time I hear him.
Jeff talking over Larry David: good
Jeff talking over Slash: not as good lol
Anyone can confirm Slash was there...? Hardy heard him.
I just got a new les paul from Gibson garage and I have to be careful with time because if I'm playing it,I have a hard time putting it down so I can go do what I'm supposed do,then I hear "I thought you left an hour ago" no I was ROCKIN.Gibson is making a good guitar now btw I have no problem with the G string.
I made it to 4 mins in. Two guys asking Slash questions just so they could interrupt him? Nah, I’ll pass
Some ppl get off on the vibration’s of they’re own vocal cords.
The King! 👑🙌🏻
I appreciate the opportunity for this interview but I have to be honest in saying the guy on the right keeps coming off as annoying and interruptive…the guy on the left has a better feel for conversation and letting Slash speak. I’m sure the details will improve as the show continues. Can’t wait to see Slash in March!
Great! Great! Great!
Get the hosts to calm down
Anyone who wants to hear Slash actually get interviewed and respond to questions should find his Marc Maron podcast appearance.
Why is there no episode 4 up yet after all this time? This was announced as monthly on inception.....
Have you read any of the comments? 😀
People hated the hosts for being self absorbed arrogant loud and highly amateurish. 🤮
30 minutes is not enough time with these three Guys.
While we're on the topic of Slash, are you guys ever gonna offer "Victoria" in a lefty version? My other Gibson's would REALLY like a new friend 😀
I have the Slash 4 cassette. I also have the Sheena Easton cassette with Sugar Walls on it!
I like this guitarist I hope he can be famous with his curly hair and glasses
10.44 mins: "I wore a hat today because of you"
slash (under his breath): "oh..."
Why so f…n loud you get Slash on and all you hear is those two🤨
Feel sorry for Slash to have to hang out with these 2 clowns 🤡
Hey why don’t you talk over slash again ??
I've been watching Curb for years and I had no idea Jeff was a guitarist. If it was ever on the show I missed that episode. Cool guitars 😎👍
Yeah right from the start.. too much something 😬😳lol 😅🤦🏻
'kin love Slash.. underrated player in his own right MASSIVELY! Especially as hes got older.. don't even see him really here in London England.. fkn grew up on GNR Lies and Appetite For Destruction... 👍😎🏴
The cartoon Gibson Les Paul in the intro has an Epiphone-shaped headstock.... weird!
Should have featured his name first in the title....lol...I think alot of people glanced over this as I did...ty guys for this interview
I think it’s very rude to say “that guy can sing” slash is so chilled so it doesn’t bother him but you can see his reaction is very suttle, like bro come on, if you gonna sit with slash, at least know his band!
11:13 - "Please can you stop shouting at me?"
Kirkland billy gibbons
Damn, I hope the interruptions aren’t as bad as I’m reading.
WHY ARE WE YELLING?!?!
Slash you are so cool!!
This show...these hosts... awful. A good interviewer *listens* to their guest. These guys don't have a clue. They're rude loudmouths.
Jeff Garlin likes to hear himself talk.
This is why a new show with hosts that haven’t learned how to give space to the guest shouldn’t have heavy hitters such as Slash on in the first 6 or so interviews. Jeff needs to learn that he’s the host and the guest is the spotlight. This was terrible.
pick any point in the timeline.. it's Jeff Garlin doing the opposite of shutting the fuck up.
Gibson makes guitars , not microphones.
Anyone who has already read Slash autobio knows why he didn't went nuts with theses guys. He doesn't like to talk that much about himself. He'd like to listen rather than be the center off the stage, so he was fine with that.
Hendrix, SRV, Rory Gallagher
Jeff and Jimmy need Tosin to come on here
Top 100
4mins in Slash has to lay back because he’s so overwhelmed and tired from Jeff Garland sucking all the air out of the room. Holy crap dude let them speak.
Gets Slash in for an interview, spends most of it shouting through it without really interviewing him. Great content.
Pretty annoying I must admit!!
Almost as bad as hiring Slash and telling him to do Django lol
10:43 Slash: " so this is how we deal with covid"
Murray fucking Goldberg: "BY THE WAY I wore a hat today!"
Slash: "oh"
Right!? Is that this idiots name? What’s it take to muzzle this piece of work?
I know I was interested in hearing about how they adapted to this last tour and this idiot just pipes up with his irrelevant hat comment
Is he even listening to what Slash is saying
Absolute torture watching these 2 guys speak over & interrupt Slash. Could only take a few minutes of this crap.
i'm glad i'm not the only one who felt pain every time slash got interrupted
Slash is amazing - a true guitar hero. I found this hard to watch because I don't like it when people talk all over each other.
Gotta love Slash, he always has fun stories. Though this Jeff guy needs to stfu and stop interrupting him.
Gibson really needs to rethink the hosts of this series. I love the concept and it’s great to see interviews of our heroes that play Gibsons but these two hosts are unbearable to watch. Let the guest speak and finish their points. This same thing happened on the Elliot Easton interview. It’s embarrassing.
You are right. Terrible hosts, they want to hear themselves only.
Agnesi
It wasn't an interview, they were talking more and less.
This was painful, humble slash try to speak and get covered of lots of nothing.
My GOD! Let the man finish a sentence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Slash was a gentlemen throughout but truly an unbearable listening experience. From an interviewing perspective. Lots of work to be done considering the opportunity they had
Why does Jeff feel the need to interrupt and talk over everybody!
You could have Jimi Hendrix return from the dead and these two bozos could still make it unwatchable.
loll
OMG please let slash talk!!!! "look at me, let me tell you how much i know"!!!! ugh couldn't sit through it all!
Slash rarely does these type of interviews and these guys won’t let him talk. Slash has made so much money for Gibson and even he bought a Gibson clone that became his appetite guitar.
It was actually given to him by then GnR manager Alan Niven, but close! \m/ Fun Fact: I recently completed putting together a Les Paul copy of his original Les Paul copy haha
Great episode of "Slash and two guys shouting over him"
Slash is so patient and cool (and humble). I left the video because I was wondering who was the guest...
Slash has been a massive part of my life since I was 16, he made me want to learn guitar and his music been the soundtrack to my best memories.
then get a new les paul standard you won't regret it if you haven't got one already I love mine in cherry burst with a great flame I regret not getting one years ago.
@@rayfabris2512 I had one, a 2002 model... stupidly sold it. I have a rather nice 2020 Les Paul Junior now. Back to basics!
I can relate hardcore. I was born in 91 but my oldest brother was born in 77 an played guitar. He bought me a BC Rich Warlock(starter one) for Christmas when I was 10 or 11. I actually started playing it around 12. He showed me some nirvana songs from the nevermind album. I learned the whole album in like a couple weeks starting with “come as you are”. I asked my brother for something a little more difficult that had more guitar solo stuff in it. He gave me Appetite for Destruction and I was obsessed. Really loved the energy and the antagonistic style hahaha teenager fuel. By 14 I loved and learned a lot of Slash Gnr stuff. Enjoyed a lot of Use Your Illusions 1&2. Feel in love with a lot of other bands and guitar players. Notable ones being Smashing Pumpkins,Soundgarden/Audioslave/Rage Against the Machine. You know all those kinda bands. Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains. Also liked Motley Crue and the Scorpions cuz of my dad and bro. Oh yeah forgot to mention my dad loved Richie Blackmore. He still to this day thinks he’s the absolute best. But yeah around this time I found Slashes Snakepitt and I dug a lot of that music to. Two albums of that and then I was about 15 found Velvet Revolver. I love GNR and also loved Stp so this was like WHATTTT!!!!!!. I remember being in summer school(skipped skool a lot to play guitar instead) and told the teacher I was goin to the bathroom. My school had cable on the TVs (I have no clue why) and most of the classes were empty except for the few that were teaching summer school. So I walked into an empty class and turned on the TV and turned the channel to MTV and it was perfect timing. The music video for Come On Come In(the song VR did for the Fantastic Four Movie) started right that second. One of my greatest life experiences lol. Another one was years later I was at a Slash ft Myles an the Conspirators concert and some dickhead threatened to hit my gf if she tried to move any closer to the stage. And I had already been drinking and heard that an the switch went and I lunged at the guy. I was in the third row and only my gf and the woman he was with were between us but I’m tall at 6”3 and he was actually very short but very stocky and it didn’t look like fat. So as I was going over the woman at him we all got grabbed up by security(I give House of Blues Atlantic City NJ Security Props and Utmost respect because I didn’t even get close to hitting the guy before I got grabbed. The crowd stuck up for me that heard what he said to my gf and when I say crowd I mean like 30 people that were directly surrounding us that heard what he said and he an his woman companion got kicked out and me an my gf took his spot an then got to the very front row. Right in front of Slashes Wah Wah pedal so every time he played a solo with Wah (there’s a bunch) he was right in front of me. A few years after that and I was telling that story at a rehab I was in in Pennsylvania (the concert was in New Jersey) and one of the counselors overheard and interrupted me and told me he was there at that same show right behind me and he was one of the crowd members that stuck up for me and my gf. What are the odds. Then my fiancé had me realize that the names of Slashes solo albums relate to how my life was going when the said albums came out. Apocalyptic Love(was in a horribly toxic relationship)World On Fire(Got involved with Heroin and was physically addicted for about 3 years with many more years before that using other Mind/Mood altering substances)Living the Dream(now have 3 years clean and have plans to be married) Now his new album is called 4(we just recently moved to a new place and the address is 4444) pretty wild to me at least. Been listening to slash more than half my life and couldn’t imagine not hearing his guitar tone or having not stolen many of his licks changing them and incorporating parts of them into other parts I play. He’s a serious inspiration. Woooow sorry for the long ass UA-cam comment that probably no one will read. Hey if anyone makes it all the way threw this leave a reply lol.
@@paulillingworth90 yeah, incredible story, I read it all,
I have the Slash 4 cassette. I also have the Sheena Easton cassette with "Sugar Walls" on it.
Let the guitar legend speak….holy shit!
Geeeeeezzzz it’s like watching a version of The View... let Slash finish a sentence!!!!
Awesome interviewer! Asks Slash a question, then as soon as Slash tries to answer he starts talking over the top of him. Why ask if you're not going to let him answer?
great interview , could've been better if you guys would've let him talk and not interrupt him every 2 seconds
I met Slash in person and he is a true gem, a very well spoken, super friendly down to earth guy!
Man,2:42 in and I cant stand these hosts.Completely all over the place.dosen't let guest give his 10 cents on any subject, just 3 voices talking over eachother.
I wish he'd given Slash the guitar back. I love hearing him just tinkering as he's talking.
Tuned out about the 4-minute mark. Those two cats on both sides of Slash were amazingly annoying. Surprised I lasted that long… 👎🏼
Jeff was awkward as fuck in this interview! Screaming most of the time, and I think Slash was tuning him out for most of the interview and focusing on Jimmy, who wasn't yelling everything. I love Jeff usually but he was really off with Slash.
Man, Slash is in such a good shape. So happy for him
Imagine having Slash on as the guest and he literally has to start raising his voice and waiting for a chance to speak at one point. I turned it off at that point. It’s really easy, when Slash or any guest is speaking, you wait until they finish what they are saying before you talk. Wankers.
You didn't wait until end of interview to comment. The irony.
@@SickDaddy It is not ironic whatsoever. It’s literally just turning off something because it’s unwatchable.
This should be called “ Slash attempts to make conversation while two guys reminisce about their music days”….. this just proves how nice a dude Slash is…. just sits patiently and on each sentence he speaks they talk over him and he just accepts it…. we would have understood if he’d just given up and thought what’s the point….. disaster of ( can’t call it an interview) , could have been an opportunity to get some cool insights from Slash….. just shut up you two!!!!! Why have people on? Just leave it with you two if you’re going to ignore the guest.
jeff garlin needs to let slash talk
"That guy can sing." (Myles Kennedy)
Probably thee understatement of the century.
One of the most annoying things I’ve ever heard. Nothing but these uninteresting hosts talking to each other/over one another, asking dumb questions and basically refusing to let the guest speak. Some may find this likeable but I have no idea how.
Y’all should let each other speak! You sounds like you’re drinking and trying to top each other on a Friday night
It took me 4 tries to get through the whole thing. These clowns don’t let up. I want to hear the artist speak. Especially Slash.
Sucks that we have to wait till mid February to get the cd. Yes, I still buy cd’s.
Boomer
Dude they talk way too much.
Hard to watch
Jeff Garlin needs to chill-waayyy too loud and obnoxious.
Who are these boomers interrupting and screaming over Slash every 10 seconds? Unbelievable!
Painful ...Slash is a true gentleman!
How uncomfortable these guys to be with poor Slash next time make a better video when everyone can watch it until the end without getting annoyed by these guys especially the guy on the black hat
This is brutal.
This made me feel weird
Great to see Slash, Jeff Garlin was making a fool of himself, would have been better without him. Stick with "curb your Enthusiasm "Jeff.
horrible interviewers. good god, let your guest speak.
