"There are no rocks in the fire nation" is probably my favorite joke in this entire series and it is almost not a dumb thought after all, the Earth Kingdom is made entirely out of Earth, the Water Tribes live on Water, even the Air Temples are practically inaccessible without flight... so it's not entirely stupid to think the Fire Nation is... made out of... Fire.
To be fair, a lot of Fire Nation landscapes appear similar to the kind of landscape in Iceland, a country known for its volcanic activity. So even though it's not made out of fire per se, it's still been sculpted by volcanoes 👀
As far as the air temples go, they are still built on mountains and the temple itself still made of stone. We actually see Toph bend at the western air temple multiple times in the next episode.
@@casperrabbit7254 You're right about the similarity with Iceland, but they are also similar to Japan and Hawaii for the same reasons you gave.
I think that the writers were specifically going for "Japan" as their real-world inspiration, but that doesn't mean there aren't other good real-world analogues too.
@@88michaelandersen Fair enough, suppose I just went for the example I recognised off the bat 😂😅

Sokka was a big fan of the boulder so I could actually see him recommending him for the invasion plan even though they clearly aren't friends. I'm kinda sad we didn't get to see a scene of him listing people to bring on the invasion because it would probably be hilarious.

not only that, but Aang's new look resembles the robes worn by Buddhist monks, so it really works as a "next-step Avatar is back" look
I feel like it's a nice transition from his original uniform to his full monk's robes during the coronation.
Aang’s voice maturing for his mini speech make the whole thing feel so real!
Yeah. It was great how he did nothing to help during the battle wheras Sokka did all the work. Such a great speech
in fact, didn't they actually start _pitching it up_ at a certain point?
@@ShinobiPXO wtf are you talking about
@@joshuamorales1215 Sokka is one who should have given the speech not Aang. Aang does practically nothing important during this battle. Everything is Sokkas plan and he was the one leading them. Aang, at best, is a figurehead
@@ShinobiPXO Why should've Sokka given the speech? If you're talking about the speech Sokka got from Aang about his moment, it wouldn't had worked at all. It was setting up for Sokka to take over the invasion when his dad got hurt. If you're talking about the speech Aang gave in the clip OA gave to show the differences in voices, it makes more sense for Aang to give it, since he's the Avatar and the person expected to save the day. Since he failed, he's promising to make it up to them. Any speech that plays in these three episodes of the invasion doesn't make sense when someone else says it because they're meant to be said by a specific character.
I always figured that the Boulder and the Hippo were picked up of their own volition.
Specifically, I liked the idea that the Boulder and Hippo discovered Toph's Champion Belt that had been stolen by the sandbenders and were horrified that the Blind Bandit might have been hurt.
Also, I love that Hippo just picks Toph and hugs her--in that position, Toph's actually completely helpless.
@Quetzalcoatl Just imagine Hippo scooping Blind Bandit up and carrying her around.
@Quetzalcoatl The sweetest and also the most bratty, but in a good way. Imagine Hippo carrying Toph upside down so all the blood rushes to her head.
I actually like that headcanon so much, consider it adopted
The mechanists eyebrows might have not appeared grown back since he literally just had an explosion
Plus considering he probably makes a lot of inventions he must lose his eyebrows often
My impression was that the first explosion partially damaged his eyebrows permanently
@@PianoMastR64 this. Hair that is burnt off doesn't usually grow back if the skin was burnt too
@@_Stormfather fried follicles lol
7:15 The mechanist used to be a fire nation engineer, so it's likely he knew the dimension of those grates before designing the submarines
I mean, they knew to bring some torpedoes to break the lattice so I assume they did know something about those grates beforehand and with how industrialised fire nation is it's entirely possible those were some kind of standard size that's been used elsewhere as well. I too think they build the submarines with this in mind
I mean it is said he only made weapons for them so i am not sure if that point really stands.
I don't know if I'm right on this, but I think the swap monster is a different color and texture during the invasion because he isn't using the best water foliage
Isn’t it cause it’s made of see weed instead of swamp vines?
I also just realized while watching the video that the reason the swamp monster doesn’t catch on fire after being hit by a few fire blasts is because it literally just came out of the water and is still soaking wet.

One thing I think was missed in the writing was the fact that Azula had compromised the Earth Kingdom as Suki and the Kyoshi warriors for a long time prior to the coup with the Dai Li. The Earth King had already told them about the gang's plans to invade the Fire Nation during the eclipse. It should have at least come up during the plan for the invasion; "what if Azula has told them we are coming?" It made it seem like everyone in the show had collective amnesia about something so pivotal to the story.
That's very true.... These episodes are my personal worst in the show... They feel like they're in they're own bubble and have no bearing on the rest of the story
One other thing that I felt was missed was the plan like they going to kill Ozai?!
Are they going to take him hostage and force the fire nation to surrender?! Maybe and if so are they going to select a new monarch because the is no way they're releasing Ozai
Is Aang going to be the new firelord?! Because remember they don't know that Zuko is about to turn to they're side?!
Just alot of unanswered questions you can it nit-picking but Avatar was always a show that would explain stuff like this both directly and indirectly
It's very clear that the gaang was set up to fail and Zuko to defect they never had a chance
@@Loaderdani I wish they talked about it and explained this to us
@MansaMusa I mean he's the Avatar so he probably can become the head of state in extreme circumstances.....

@@oxcare5 Yep. Only the Earth King knew the info had leaked, and he bounced between seasons. I question whether he was enough of an airheard not to mention the leak, but who knows. We don't know if the gang told him they'd continue the invasion even without the Earth Kingdom, maybe the King just assumed the invesion plan was dead.

Another thing to notice are the different symbols in the Water Tribe uniforms: a crescent moon on all soldiers except Hakoda and Bato. A full moon and one waxing and another waning by the side on Hakoda's uniform and an upside down waning moon with what looks like a club on Bato's.
Weird considering we all know that the Avatar world CANONICALLY only ever has the full moon 😂
@@robertwinslade3104 I audibly snickered, thank you for the reminder.
My headcannon is that those symbols are related to the watertribe rank structure somehow.
@@jacobpierce758 Which is an awesome way to portray rank. Especially with the cultural significance of the moon.
@@angela_merkeI glad I'm not the only one who came to that conclusion. I've seen at some points Hakoda is referred to as a "Chief" so perhaps that symbol he wears indicates that particular rank. Though it doesn't seem like the Watertribe has an officer vs enlisted rank structure
I have an idea why Bolder and Hippo were glad to see Toph. I feel like Earth Rumble was basically all just an act(to an extent), and it really only crossed the line when they thought she split the money with Aang and tried to save him so they could make money
But since that’s no longer a concern, they can go back to being some type of friends
they did tried to keep Aang hostage to hand him over to the fire nation for his bounty though.

Iroh: Delectable Tea or Deadly Poison?
Ming: That's definitely poison. Here, I snuck you some white Jade tea.
It's my head canon that it just has to be brewed correctly, likely with something else that removes the poisonous effects which is why he couldn't decipher the plants correctly.
@@Ryan_115 And before anyone says "Couldn't he have brewed it the safe way that makes White Jade not poisonous then?"
The stuff you brew with White Jade to disarm it will form a new and different poisonous substance if mixed with White Dragon.
No there to diffrent plants the white jade Plant that is drinkable and the other plant iroh found in the forrest and the other plant poisond him
Or it could be taken as "White Jade tea" as in tea using the white jade flower or "White Jade tea" is a white tea (as opposed to black/green) that uses Jade similar to normal Jade tea being green Jade tea. I do think it is actually just a mistake though
*shows sokka disarm someone *
"We never really get to see sokka disarm anyone"
i think he meant on an actual swordfight. i think they lost opportunities to have sokka just break armor plates and use the dull part of the sword on enemies to knock them down though. but if the series was at least PG14 they could have him slicing people with blood spewing as long as there wasnt any dismembering or too much blood being shown.

I really liked that in the calm before the storm moment, the show shows just how small these kids are. In episode one there’s a ton of visualization to make the world seem so much bigger than these kids and it all adds up to how the world has changed because of these kids. They’re small, but did seemingly impossible things. That’s why I really like this episode. It’s satisfying to see the payoff of all these adventures
This episode was amazing, a return of so many characters we met just feels so good. There are some characters I'm disappointed didn't return though, like Sneers, Smellerbee and Longshot, they should all be alive to my knowledge. And it's a shame Jet couldn't show up.

When you talked about Sokka’s swordsmanship, you missed Katara pioneering Ming Hua’s Water Arms technique.
She uses that during the fight under Ba Sing Se, though? When she was yelling at Zuko.
Maybe they somehow knew about the grates and built the submarines to fit them? That would semi-explain them having torpedoes, seeing as they didn't use them for anything else.
It might be that one of the scrolls Sokka got from Wan Shi Tong included some drawings of the Fire Nation Capital docks. Either that or they got the info through some espionage.
@@AntrozLPs though that's certainly plausible, isn't it unlikely it came from the library since the fire nation section was burned (probably by Zhao)
That was my first thought too. I mean what are those grates for anyway? Maybe that shape and size is standard accross fire nation ports for engineering reasons.
Nah it’s the “secret river” Aang learned at school in The Headband
Iroh literally pulled a "Silent kid tells the only person he likes to NOT come to school tomorrow"
To be fair about Sokka's invention of submarines, people credit Steve Jobs for invention of smartphones.
The difference there is the difference between having an idea and giving it to someone capable of making it, and closing overseeing the creation of said idea
Really? I thought it was well known that BlackBerry phones were the original smartphones. iPhones just brought the innovation of a touchscreen and the now-standard rectangular form-factor the concept of which you could probably fairly give to Steve Jobs or his product design team.
had a thing before the iphone existed, was called a pocket pc
@@theknightskyisi People probably associate the touch screen itself as the beginning of smartphones since that's become one of the most universal features on smartphones since
So.. what you're saying is... Sokka dies from cancer and that's why we don't see him in Korra?
Looks like today we get our own "Day of Black Sun" IRL.
Rewatching just for this comment
Another episode dhich indicates we are one step closer to the finale of this amazing series this man has shed his blood and sweat into.
I like to think the white jade bush is both the plant that is poison *and* delectable tea, it just depends on how you make it, like how irl plants can work as poison or medicine/food depending on how much you use and how you use it. Iroh couldn't brew it correctly since he was on the run and didn't have the right tools, while Ming did so it turned out fine.
Just a small headcanon
It's science!
I always assumed the Fire Nation had knowledge on purifying it that the Earth Kingdom village lacked.
Will you do a 2 hour special episode for the Sozin's Comet finale?
YEEEES please
One hour maybe. But 2 seems a little much.

With regards to a lack of Southern or Northern reinforcements, I suspect that there just wasn't time to go all the way up to the North and then all the way to the Fire Nation.
As for Pakku himself, they're definitely keeping him as a card up their sleeve for the finale.
Back in the pre finale days where distsnces mesns something.
@@Jotari i mean, paku said he was going back to the south in the S2 finale to meet with gramgram and make things right, as well as have people from the north help rebuild the south tribe (its how we have waterbenders there again by the time of Korra), Sokkas father and his forces were not operating in the southpole, if they decided to go back there or the north way earlier they could had gotten some people from there but they likely wouldnt have people from the earth kingdom to help, and tbf earthbenders are better for frontline forces in my opinion.
as for paku, the white lotus was always acting behind the scenes, i have a feeling that, ever since he got imprisoned Iroh had white lotus agents delivering him intel, and likely gave them intel and orders to assemble the grand masters after the eclipse, so paku started to move at the time.
That fucking potion seller joke was incredible. Unbelievably top tier. This is why I watch you.
The blue marks on Aang's eyebrows there might be an animation error. Sometimes parts of a scene will be colored bright to keep track of, and then recolored to the correct look later. I don't know if that's actually true here, but it just reminded me of the effects error from AoT where they left the effects colored neon purple and green in the original release.
Whenever Sokka mentions harru he says something about his mustache and then it cuts to harru like feeling his mustache. Idk but I found that really funny
Can I just say that I love how you used like half a second of the quantum fluctuation noise from Outer Wilds when you mentioned Quantum Momo
My theory is that the meteorite used to make Sokka's sword was osmiridium, a natural alloy of osmium and iridium. This would make it strong enough to slice through steel.
why don't we see it used irl more often if its stronger than steel
That's not how it works, even if it's harder than steel it would still not have enough mass to get through itron or steel that thick. Like there's a difference between being able to put a cut in something and being able to cleanly slice it. Try taking a kitchen knife and cutting through a watermelon in one stroke, steel is a lot harder than watermelon, but you're probably still gunna have to readjust a little unless you do it slowly.
I mean, it is a fantasy world, with magiks and stuff, so one metal that can cut thru something that looks like steel seems to be excusable
@@satiatedpanda My point is more you don't need to theorize on a supposed alloy to make it stronger, because that also doesn't work, just accept that it's a space sword that cuts things real good, no need to over complicate it
@@duskpede5146 because osmium is one of the rarest metals on earth, on par with something like uranium. Also, its incredibly dense and has an extreme melting point, meaning working the metal would not be possible with the methods used for steel. Finally, the benefits of osmium over steel arent that useful on a Battlefield, so its just not worth it. Hope that helps! :)

2:44 this was hilarious. I love your underanalyzing avatar video
I love the idea that Sokka was still so hyped about Earth Rumble Six that he sent Hakoda to pick up Hippo and the Boulder.
I do like the idea that Lt Serena was actually warning Iroh about a plot to kill him. Like part of the plan to thwart the invasion was to also take out the super powerful fire-bender who would help the invasion if freed. But since Serena liked Iroh (Iroh's mention of how she'd always been nice to him) she didn't want to go through with it, so subtly warned him in a way that only an avid tea-lover would understand. Which then Iroh repays by subtly warning her that the Dragon of the West is giving a demonstration later.

So I can explain why even though Aang got hit in his spine that the chakra connected to his brain was still affected rather than his heart or other organs. In simplest of terms the spine is directly connected to the brain which is why people who damage there spine will often have some form consequence occur to the brain due to the many nerves that connect both parts of the body. Aang getting hit right in his spine not only scarred that area and damaged the many nerves located there but as a result, his brain was also affected in the form of locking his inner chakra.
I just remembered that the Earth chakra (fear) is literally located in the spine. Shouldn’t that one have been locked?

Ahhhh, thank you for mentioning Iroh and Ming and the white jade tea! I caught that immediately on my first watch and have always wondered how that mistake got through the scripting process.
I believe the reason why the tanks in this episode resemble the style of the Fire Nation tanks so closely is because the Mechanist was entrusted to research, design and develop weapons just like this for the Fire Nation since Teo was just a baby.
Perhaps that is not the style and design philosophy of Fire Nation technology, but rather the Mechanist's.
they are overall a really good tank design for earthbenders and we saw them take care of the fire nations ones and their other structures really easily, the fire nation tanks can easily get back in place when knocked and climb any terrain, and are sturdy enough to take rocks unless they oversize them, so they used a tank that instead of just being an armored rock flinger, its a large tank thats almost as adaptible to terrain and relies on getting in the enemies face and smashing them head on. although one design that could also had been cool would be sorta of a ballista tank that used stallagmite-like rocks to shot at these tanks, but i guess it might had been not cool for a kids show or something.
I want to add this, Aangs new outfit, in my opinion, makes him seem more mature and older. gives him that sense of personal growth.
Honestly guys, I love this content, and to be honest, no matter what he moves on to after avatar, I think I’ll be down for it given that his analytical style stays the same. That’s what brings me back to this channel, and that’s what will keep me watching :)

THANK YOU finally someone notices that the mechanist brings rocks to a place where they are literally standing on rocks….also thank you someone finally noticed that they never went to the north to get help or maybe the other earth kingdom generals bases like the one in “The Avatar state” like come on they are bound to have some soldiers you can recruit there even if the generals are locked up
It's possible that the center alley was covered with a layer of metal to prevent earthbending and the boulders are there to counter that.
I have no idea whether it's true, but it's my headcanon, especially with the lack of earthbending going on
I never thought of it as a weird thing before...
I always assumed that maybe they were taking precautions. I think none of them have ever been to the fire nation before and Haru could have mentioned to them that a lack of rocks would be a problem, in case their city and defences would be heavily industrialized and made out of metal, like the boat prison for earth benders.
@@dustymooneye5858 I guess yah but that seems like a precaution the fire nation might be to proud to make, I mean with a 100 years of war and the war has never reached them so maybe they don’t expect a invasion but maybe
@@inkonsistency True….I don’t really got a comeback for that lol
@@dustymooneye5858 I actually just rewatched Imprisoned and the rig looks like the same color has the entire surface of the battle so maybe you are right and it is metal
That one line from Iroh always made me think "I like you, don't come to school tomorrow."
Before you comment, Pakku went to the south to help rebuild. I'm disappointed you were about to comment that. Pay attention.
No one was going to do that

Rare I watch every single video a channel uploads but you are an exception. Best content and insights in the game dude
This episode is a crowning moment for Sokka and one of my favorites. The action in this episode and the next one is great, you really feel how far the gaang has come from just randomly flying around the world to trying to save the world and fulfill Aang’s duty as Avatar. Honestly? While Zuko and Iroh’s reunion is an emotional highpoint for the series and the Agni Kai with Azula is amazing, outside those scenes I feel like this two parter (and especially this episode) pull off being a climactic finish to the series better than the actual 4 part finale. Which is insane cause Part 2 of Black Sun doesnt even end on a finale note obviously.
I’ve watched like all of your videos like 4 times so far… they’re so entertaining I love it, and it opens up new views on avatar i never saw.
I love avatar, it’s such a great show
"Mechanist, I'm going into battle and I need your strongest snacks"
I didn't expect Justin Kuritzkes reference and I couldn't stop laughing at it
Honest question: did anyone *really* think this was going to be the finale?
I did (•_
@@Obsessive_cartoon_drawer Not a *finale* finale. More that Aang defeats Ozai with the help of his friends, the Imperial City is taken for the war effort, and our heroes *think* they have won.
Only for Ozai and Azula to break out and plot and still wind up the final bosses during Sozin's Comet
@@MatsuoTanuki See that's the problem with Sozins comet. We *know* that is the ending and we *know* that's when Aang and Ozai will fight. When you tell the audience what the last act is going to be, things become predictable. It was obvious that Aang would not fight Ozai here since that would devalue the fight in Sozins Comet.
And I dont think capturing the capital means anything. Remember, these characters think the war only ends if Aang defeats Ozai, which is why Aang had no other objective during the Invasion. It's just a weird logic they go on.
@@ShinobiPXO luckily we watched these as kids. Back then the suspense was real.
I thought it was a firm 'maybe'. ATLA surprised me plenty of times. Remember Crossroads? I mean I knew this was only like 10 episodes into a season that would probably have about 20 episodes, but those could have been spent figuring out the peace or preventing counter-coups against Zuko or something involving spirits.
5:10 "Stay strapped, or get clapped." - Pipsqueak... probably.
Damn this is like the only show that can almost bring me to tears just from thinking about the journey of the characters and thier growth. I love this show and these characters so much they feel like friends.
I really hope sozin's comet is one video, cause a week between each part would destroy the flow
1:46 That Momo for sure was Uncertain, it's as if he had a Principle to it
Quantum momo? Overanalyzer plays outer wilds? This is amazing

Your Patreon shoutouts are truly the best I've seen from any creator
Thank you for defending that Aang/Katara kiss. I also think it's great, and I think the people who somehow argue that Katara isn't interested in Aang are projecting their own opinions onto her. She clearly shows interest.
Not nearly to the same degree that Aang does. That's the problem. They dont build the relationship from her perspective, only Aangs
@@ShinobiPXO I'd argue that they *do* build it from her perspective too. They do it less, sure, but like... this isn't the only romance in media history that is written more from one person's point of view than the other's. I don't think that means it's bad/toxic/unrequited or whatever.
So much love for the quantum Outer Wilds sfx on 1:47
My favorite detail in this episode comes from the scene where sokka’s dad starts explaining the plan. The music there is the same drum loop as sokka’s theme but with a larger deeper sounding drum with more reverb.
I love when soundtracks do stuff like this. It shows that he and his son are similar, but sokka still has large shoes to fill.
8:57 things like this are why i sometimes wish Avatar was picked up by Cartoon Network instead. Take adventure time for instance, at the start there was also no stabbing, no "real" violence, although they did use blunt weapons, and allow hand to hand fighting, but by the end we had shots of Finn sinking swords into his enemies, he even fatalitied his alternate dimension self with a spinning lawnmower blade thing to the gut.
It would have definitely been something to see Sokka put his sword (or maybe the boomerang club even) to real use at some point, even have an episode or part of an episode dedicated to him coming to terms with what the reality of the war has made him do.
Although, all in all, at the end of the day half of avatars magic comes from the fact that they had to work around Nickelodeons rules.
