- On 7th May 1999, presenters Caron Keating and Ross Kelly met the inspirational Oliver Postgate. The popular stop-frame animated series "Bagpuss" that Postgate had created with Peter Firmin had just been voted the nation's favourite children's TV show in a Daily Mail poll. Oliver brought many original models to the studio including the original Bagpuss, Gabriel and Madelaine, Professor Yaffle and mice, plus Clangers and froglets. Bagpuss was presented with a cake in celebration of his 25th anniversary, while members of the production team took part in an homage to the original Bagpuss title sequence.

I do hope he knew how much happiness he brought to so many people.
I'm 62 and grew up with Olivers work and I have a Bagpuss! I never forget we had to change a rotor blade on a Chinook helipcoptwer in the Falklands, all we had were ropes and 10 strong RAF blokes! Well we unbolted the broken blade and someone calls out 'The Marvellous Mechanical Mouse organ' so we all go HEAVE, HEAVE HEAVE and started singing in high pitched voices, " we will mend it we will bend it" NEVER forget that day - happy memories so spontaneous - so Bagpuss!
What a magnificent voice he had.
Before my great grandad died (Peter firmin) he gave me a plush of his first creation of bagpuss👍
that is actually so cool!!!
Caron Keating, another fondly remembered figure from classic children's television. It's very sad that she's no longer with us.
Bagpuss was a huge part of my childhood, I rewatched them over and over when I was younger and *that* voice. Oh my god. Oliver Postgate could have read the phone book and it would have sounded charming.
He had the most, amazing voice.
Brilliant children's television of its time.professor Yaffle and the singing mice...
What a lovely man he was
❤❤❤ wonderful voice. Very happy childhood memories
I rescued a Bagpuss once from a house gutter. A wash and blowdry and he was as good as new. I still have him.
I was born in 97, and I used to watch the Bagpuss VHS endlessly as a child. Great to see this interview
Oliver Postgate -The man is a legend!
It’s a timeless and lovely work of art. 💖
1:09 Awesome Behind The Scenes Look About Bagpuss The Original Series. Thanks Mate. X
Was an avid Bagpuss Stan as a child. I didn't know he was pink until the 80s as we had b&w TV ! I thought he was orange. Postgates programmes was extremely soporific for children, something that was recreated in later shows like The Night Garden... That's what you want just before bedtime....
No mention of the best two programmes by Postgate and Firmin - Ivor the Engine and Noggin the Nog!
Big fan of Bagpuss it's so fantastic love Oliver Postgate
So happy they won that award! 💖
This is just fantastic.
Nice to see this and a clip of Caron too.
Yaffle is an old country name for the green woodpecker, named after its 'laughing' call.
I love Bagpuss!
Born in 72 and still have my bagpuss he is now in my airing cupboard as he is large and i'm not one for stuffed animals and charlie mouse keeps him company.
In the time before and the time after this was broadcast, are there better things you want your children to watch?
