A much healthier creative work environment than a large studio if you ask me. Even with the low budgets. Their work was magical.

These programmes were my childhood and a lot can be learned by them. I love Oliver's laugh at 19:14 talking about the theft of Mrs Clanger.

What's so funny is that Oliver remembers the lines as he's reenacting for the interviewer. Now they are being made on computer taking longer than when hand drawn. Progress.

Truly Timeless, Clangerly Captivating, Bagpssfully Beautiful, Ivorly Irresistible children’s programs full of ideas and creativity that helped to inspire the imaginations of the generations that watched these programs…before they washed their hands for evening dinner and sat around the table ready for a home made meal…good times…real times…

I loved Bagpuss as a kid ... it's one of the three reasons why my first daughter (born in 1981) is named Emily.
    The other two?
    * I loved Kate Bush too, and her song "Wow" mentions "Emily" at the beginning, as well as her first number one "Wuthering Heights" is based on a book by Emily Brontë
    * At university (in 1980/81) I was friends with Emily Thornberry (now an MP), not for her politics, but she was one of the nicest people I knew.

Even though I was born in the 2000's, No TV shows have stuck with me more, than Bagpuss, and Ivor. Building a model of Ivor in OO gauge in 2018, and making a new one now, 2 years later, to the month, is what got me into modelmaking. And I have the very same lead metal jinty that always sat next to Bagpuss. And recently watching Noggin the Nog, and The Clangers, shows just how bad children's shows are today. The Clangers has returned, and Ivor and Bagpuss are set to. And that really shows, just how brilliant these 2 blokes were. Nevermind pioneers. They are the foundation that children's TV was built from. And they shall forever be remembered. R.I.P old friends.

Peter Firmin's archive of puppets, scripts and props is now in the Beaney Museum in Canterbury, but very poorly displayed and conserved, squeezed into a tight display case that looks very dusty and dirty. It makes me very sad to see such dear old friends so neglected. They deserve better.

Wonderful TV programmes back then. BBC was, to me, at it's best, during the 60's and 70's. TV today panders to the modern audience and has nowhere near the appeal of the actors, voices, people, music of TV and film of the past.
