I have upgraded from am4 to am5, to be specific from a 5800x3D to 7800x3D and I am very happy with my purchase. This processor will last maybe two generations for 1440p high details gaming.

I am on the fence about upgrading my 1600 to a 5700x3d or just selling my stuff and getting AM5. What gpu do you have for 1440p ? For reference my TV/monitor is 1440/120 so I am looking for a computer setup that maintains 90 fps 1% lows. Guidance appreciated though I have a pretty good idea it's going to be expensive - LOL

I'd love something like a 7800x3d that could overclock and had a few more cores, or at least another CCD without issues.
Having a single CCD really hurts the bandwidth of the 7800x3d and being able to overclock the IF/interconnects a little further next further to claw back some of the bottleneck would be fantastic.
Either that or some real developments in how they handle pairings of 3D and non-3D cache CCDs on the same platform.

its probably a good idea to get these cpus for nvidia's rtx 5090 gpus so the previous gen cpus don't bottle neck them too much, nvidia's newer gpus have gotten overkill these days.

It will be almost 2 years having 7950x, however i am mad i didn't wait for x3D parts which i thought would come much later. Definitely going to upgrade to 9800x3D or 9950x3D, base zen 5 doesn't seem like worthy upgrade.

I'm fine with what I have right now but if the 9950X or 9950X3D are a particularly steep step up I will probably pick one up. Waiting for benchmarks on that. I have a weird use case though. If it was just for standard gaming, I'd definitely sit this generation out.

I am gaming on 4K and it seems that 5800xd3 (which I currently have) performs almost the same as the 7800x3d for most games (MSFS and 1 other were an exception) if paired with the 4090. So an upgrade of cpu only seems to be necessary when the next generation of gpu's can spit out more fps than my current cpu can handle.

I have a 5600x and 6700xt pc, i'm wondering if I should go with a 7800x3d and 7900gre right now, or wait for next gen?

I made the jump from a 5600X to a 7800X3D and it was definitely worth it. Go for it.
As for the GPU, I'd hold on to that 6700XT for now for at least the rest of the year. See what the new generation of GPUs deliver and go from there.

I have the Zen 4 7800X3D and love it, but the Zen 5 9800X3D will release this year, after the Non X3D release, and AMD said to have improved the X3DVcache to have have more Vcache, faster Vcache for gaming while also being over 5.5Ghz and more efficient, so If I where you I would save my money and wait for Zen 5 X3D.

there be always better in the futur than current offering question do you need it now
      only you can answer it.
also own a rx 6700 xt and also don't feel need yet but whit new release i see that card won't hold very long at 1440p whitout compromise.

They are releasing great cpus, but their pricing is really bad in the midrange such as 7700 when compared some intel cpus for price to performance in productivity. I am waiting to buy one when price drops after 9000 release.

Unlikely, since Zen 5 X3D will come out at the end of this year sometime after September, with better, faster and more improved Vcache for gaming, they will also have more Vcache then the 7800X3D and will be over 5.5Ghz Clock Speed while been more efficient and thats not all the 12 and 16 core 9900X3D and 9950X3D will have all cores in a single CCD meaning all cores will have Vcache on Zen5 X3D, leaving Intel once again Eating AMDs Dust.

You won't see CCDs with more than 8c on 9k3D series.
