I completely relate to not wanting to do something selfish but as a 25 year old I’m proud to say I play on going to Tokyo next year for 3 months on a solo trip just because I want to. I’m currently trying to learn the language so I can truly engage with the locals and your videos/message is a large reason for why I’m taking the leap so thank youn
Brats and have so much fun!! Make sure you do plenty of research on all the little things to know before you go. Watch as many videos as you can about the topic as everybody has unique advice that can be useful, but above all take risks but stay safe and have fun
can i ask how are you affording this trip? Im 18 and really want to solo travel but it seems like ill have to save up money for a few years. Do you have any tips?
I went to Ghana and South Africa last month solo just because I wanted to getaway for my birthday. I feel like solo travel is a form of self love because for the entire trip I’m doing all the things I want and attending to my own needs. I was reminded of all the things I love about myself that can sometimes get lost in group environments.
wow thats so cool and inspiring, sounds like you had a great time. May I ask how was your experiance in Ghana and south africa as a solo female traveller?
You know what I've noticed in silence, the best place to start is gratitude. If I don't, I think my mind drifts to judgement or things I need to. It's so beautiful to embrace the novelness of where I am and surrender to how beautiful it is to just exist and be. All the creative and happy thoughts flow after.
I really recommend solo traveling. My life coach, Lisa Haisha, said that solo travel not only helps us find ourselves but also create ourselves. I believe that's the most beautiful thing about solo traveling. ❤️
When I moved to a different state with barely any friends and having to study hard to get into nursing school. I spent a good 10 years doing so many things alone/solo. I realized that I couldn’t rely on the friends I barely had to want to do things. So I started going alone. And then something sparked in me. I realized being alone is so much better for me many times. Bye use I can dictate all my time. No one to have to agree to placed etc. I could eat what I want, walk around the mall for as long as I want. Stop anywhere I want etc
@@briizcustoms9543 I go out to dinner, lunch, coffee and run errands alone all the time. I also go the movies alone. This is a lifestyle for me now. I do have friends nowadays and I hangout with them as well. I also am married now and go out with my husband. But I still do many things alone all the time and I love it. I absolutely love it. I love spending time with myself. I am good company 💕😊 the friends and such will come in time. In the meantime why not enjoy life’s benefits 💕
I take long-weekend getaways solo more and more (4-5 days), and I think it's amazing. For years, I missed out on plans and destinations because I tried to gather people and organize everything, and there came a point where I said "screw it, I have the money and I want to go, with or without you". I think a lot of people have this issue of feeling selfish and being kind of afraid to go where you don't have others with you, but the thing is, if you wait for others, the opportunity will go. There are destinations that are worth to share with someone, but others are better to go to as soon as YOU want to go. If you wait for others to accompany you, you will regret it, at least that's my experience. And as a hobby photographer, I also love being free to shoot at the same scene for 30 minutes. When I'm with others, I always feel like I'm holding them up with my pursuit for the perfect shot - travelling solo, I am untethered. :)
when I was around 16, I firmly told my family that I want to study abroad. I worked hard to get admitted to a university in the Netherlands but my family didn’t give permission to move halfway across the world (because I’m a girl? idk). But they did allow me to study in a different city. It surely didn’t feel like solo travel back then, but I’m forever grateful to have left my hometown & explored a new city on my own. It’s been almost 15yrs since then, finally in the Netherlands building my career, while still travelling solo every now & then. The only downside is that now I feel a bit awkward to travel with people 😅
This gave me the solo travel bug! Being in a relationship where we travel together its hard to think of myself solo traveling again, but this inspired an idea that maybe we can both solo travel at the same time (a weekend) and keep journals throughout and share our unique experience w one another afterwards.
Love it!! Now I need the "how to meet people everywhere? How to make friends?" I love the book thing (which is now my favorite) but I need a full-on episode or video on making friends because i NEED IT
Here's my tricks! Get on travel forums before you go! I've made travel friends that way. Ask people what they're eating or drinking and if they like it. Go on walking tours and ask them to take your photo. Comment on all the stairs you're climbing to get to the view at the top. Like, I hope this is worth it!!! Then if there's good vibes ask them to take your photo. Talk to bartenders so other people know you want to talk. I could go on and on
What i love about solo travel is the freedom. You go to a new city alone and theres no responsibilities. Your free to do whatever with no criticism from other people. So Solo travel is the ultimate freedom.
I was literally just thinking about planning my first ever solo trip for my birthday in a few months, and this video came at just the right time. Thank you for this
I’ve been watching you since I was about 12/13 and i’m 21 now!! Your videos are so inspiring and such a safe space 😭 they give me hope that there is a world out there beyond my boring existence rn
Damn, i also decided to travel around 25/26 and i also see it being really significant as my first purely “selfish” decision. It makes me emotional thinking about it because I just passed my one year anniversary since i left the US and started solo traveling….and while I originally thought i’d just do it for a few months, I never actually went back to my old life. I now live in Belgrade, have met the most incredible people, continue to travel, learn languages, seek out new experiences, and overall i just feel like a completely different person ☺️
I booked a solo trip for next spring to Rome for a month! I’m staying in a beautiful home in the city center and I’m so excited!! Admittedly, I booked the trip because of a lover I met in Spain.. but we don’t talk anymore. And that’s okay! I’m dedicating MY time to doing everything I know I’ll enjoy! 🌸
I come back to this channel every few months and leave feeling inspired, every time, without fail. This is the sort of stuff that fuels me and makes me so excited about the future. I had my first solo travel experience at 19 to work as a nanny in the center of Rome. In between that time, I had moved to Alaska, a place in which I knew nothing about and knew no one else. In both of these experiences, I thrived and grew immeasurably. I can’t stress the importance of travel/solo travel and getting to know yourself. Getting out of your bubble and going to see the beauty the world has to offer makes a person blossom and grow like nothing else. Each experience has the potential to unravel a part of yourself that you may have never known existed. Big fan, Jo! Thanks for doing what you’re doing.
Did a solo trip to Belgium last spring and stayed in a hostel with other girls my age and it was such a life-changing three days! Though I love my friends, it really does feel good to not have anyone around to persuade you to go, do, or see anything other than what *you* want. You also just take in your surroundings on a different level and it’s such a great feeling. I felt so connected to everything around me. Highly recommend.
Watching this video as I am solo traveling throughout Europe, currently in Funchal, Portugal 🇵🇹, and basking in the essence of true freedom! Muito obrigada mi hermosa Brasileña! 🇧🇷 (Sportuguese? 😂)
You are such an inspiration, I am 30 and have never travelled outside of my country and I so badly want to, but I have this fear stopping me. I have been going to places in my province to get some experience. I have a long list of countries I'd love to see and experience for myself and soon I will do it and go...
If you have the money saved up already, I would highly encourage you to pick the first place (or the closest/cheapest) on your list and book the ticket/accomodation asap. As in pick the month you wanna go and buy in advance so then you have something to look forward to. Also means you're more likely to follow through if it's already booked
I was literally just thinking about planning my first ever solo trip for my birthday in a few months, and this video came at just the right time. Thank you for this 🙏🏾
Im travelling to Rome next month to study a Master. Not only is it my first time in Italy, but also my first time travelling solo and living abroad. This video gave me more confidence and confirmation that I am moving in the right direction. Thank you Jo ❤
I love the tip about having a “go to item” like a journal to write in when you might start feeling alone. You can free write about what your feeling in that moment which can ease the fear and anxiety if being out solo. Thank you
Thank you for this, Jo. I’m 65, and when I was 22 I spent a year backpacking in Europe. It’s been a long time coming, but I’m doing a solo trip for 2 months in Europe, and I’m excited! Thanks for the helpful tips. (Especially ‘stay away from your phone’.)
This is nothing to do with this video or even something you are into, but I would love to see like a look book on outfits you wear when you are traveling or how you plan your outfits! Your style seems so fun it would be great for ideas!!
I started solo traveling years ago because of your old channel and I haven't looked back since. I'm starting to travel this fall again for the first time since lockdown (London again!) and I'm planning a ton of trips next year already! Everything you said is very true! I actually have never traveled with other people abroad and can hardly imagine it at this point. All of these tips are just ingrained in me at this point, but for any soon-to-be-solo travelers, this is amazing!
tips i gleaned from this video: 1. go analogue (alternatively, go digital if u dont wanna attract attention) 2. safety first. learn to protect yourself 3. embrace silence
omg I also started solotraveling with 25! i started with 3 days in Berlin, then a weekend in Rotterdam for a festival, then 1 week in Island to 2 1/2 weeks in Japan & Korea :D now i want to do a work & travel year in Japan and want to solo-travel to the countries around (Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, HongKong...) :D
I’ve been watching you since I was about 12/13 and i’m 21 now!! Your videos are so inspiring and such a safe space they give me hope that there is a world out there beyond my boring existence rn
Wow I’m can’t stress enough how much it meant to me what you just shared with us on this video. For quite a while I have been rehearsing on starting to write my journal where I get to process my thoughts as I allow myself to get to know who am in ways that I have never had. Thank you so much Jo. I’ve always been a fan of yours. Love all of your contents.
Ive travelled with a partner before, and along the same lines of bringing a journal to a coffee shop and people wanting to strike up a conversation, we found the same thing with chess actually 😂 we would play chess on an app and it was surprising how many people randomly just walked up and asked who was winning
Just solo travelled in Belgium and while I did stick to my phone a tad much (kept forgetting my book back at the hostel), I had so much fun just speaking Dutch with the locals and talking to new people. The spontaneous decisions (riding the coastal tram around Blankenberge and Oostende) and the self-made challenges (biking from Brugge to Sluis and back) all made for wonderful and reflective memories, as well as a sense of accomplishment. I met some amazing people, saw some old friends, and can't wait to go back someday and keep having my own adventures. Even made some nightlife friends that felt more real since I met them while we were all tired and done dancing at a table outside.
I really felt this video. It was like confirmation for me to get out there and do things I’ve been wanting. I’ve solo traveled on vacation but don’t go many places in my own city solo. I’m ready to get out and discover more local things and discover more about myself. Thanks for this video.
I totally agree with you about operating at a high frequency spiritually. If you figure out the science of it, please make another video. The more I think about it, the more I feel it has to be quantifiable, and we just haven’t figured out how to measure it yet. But everything you described - being open and kind and at peace with your solitude - it really does bring people to you. The Law of Attraction, maybe? I’m not a scientist. 🤷🏻♀️
My first solo travel was when I was 25, last May. I went to Las Angles. I live in the east coast so it was nice to cross country. I have family all over Cali but I didn’t meet up with any of them. It was nice knowing that I could call a relative if I had to but thankfully I didn’t have to. I took a journal & just enjoyed my time
Traveling alone is what brought me some of the best friends I have, and I have to say none are American. I’m Puerto Rican from California and have never met more gracious and loyal people than I have in my friends abroad. There are wonderful people everywhere, OF COURSE, but it’s unfortunate it has happened this way. The community I crave and relate to isn’t here anymore. I do have a super blessed life and beautiful home, but there isn’t any consistency with people here. 😞 Language tripes are the best! Love this and love your channel! Love your whole journey from Brazil to the present! 🥰😇🙏🙏🙏
i was wondering where i saw your face before… i knew it wasn’t on youtube. i remember now, i keep seeing your ads for Pimsleur. so memorable 😂 i love Pimsleur, it’s well worth the subscription. i’m tightening up my spanish and then learning Brasilian portuguese ❤
It is so good this episode, it is cool even if your friends or family don't like what you do or don.t understand, you enjoy your journey even more cuz it is you
I'm starting a pretty much unplanned Interrail-Trip (a Europe-Train-Ticket). I don' really know where I'm going yet but I'm soo exited to just go by myself und enjoy myself.
loved the episode! I was kind of discouraged from solo traveling after going to london on my own for three days and honestly not enjoying it at all. I felt bored and drained and insecure - but also didn’t do the right activities I guess. I really want to do a weeklong hiking trip and since none of my friends seem to have time guess I’m gonna go for it by myself!
Just as I am watching this I am in the middle of packing up my apartment to go travelling , with no set return date. I will be travelling around Australia in my Van . Nervous 😬 & Excited also.
@@jofranco Possibly but probably just not been mindful of the fact that such a thing existed. While travelling I will try it. At the time of writing I am still packing up my house & possessions.
Great tips! I can agree with all of them (except I’ve never done the dating app part). I took my first solo trip 7 years ago to Barbados & just did my second solo trip to Arizona last week & had the most amazing/aligned time!
Absolutely love these tips, Jo! I've been travelling and living abroad for the past 10 years and only started travelling by myself in 2019 (after having pointedly avoiding it for years)...needless to say, it was amazing and I'm hooked. I haven't used dating apps or signed up for classes in new places before but this video definitely has me thinking I should try out these suggestions next time. Cheers!
I’m solo traveling for the first time this fall! Going to London for 1 night to go to a musical. Very stoked and excited to see how I will hold myself together all alone! Def take these tips with me. Thanks Jo!
I got to see your video only now, but everything you said totally matches what I've experienced so far!! People who don't travel solo or do experiences on their own really struggle to understand how it feels like to do it. I had friends telling me they could never do it, but they simply didn't want to leave their comfort zones.. I actually didn't travel solo, but I've done a bunch of study or volunteer abroad experiences in different countries (two of them lasted almost a year), and living there made me experience all that you said. Anyway, great tips, thank you Joe! 🤗
Great advice! As for what you said about postcarding, that hit home with me. I love sending my friends and family postcards of all the places I've been to! As for hotels, I will leave a small piece of advice read the reviews about a hotel beforehand so you can know what you are getting into.
Hi Jo,you need to make a video just about travelling stories, you got me hooked on the story at the restaurant and you had an eye contact with a lady who helped you out, wanna hear more. Love to hear people wierd stories
Loved it! I have always enjoyed being by myself, and it has to do with me not being afraid of silence and what "my mind says" haha, and then travelling solo was just the cherry on top. I feel so free, confident, I blend in and I have helped people who are lost or not sure if they were on the right direction to get places. I know Paris, London and NYC by heart because I've been there by myself, and the memories that I have from those places are my own and such a wonderful treasure 💙🥂❤️
I’m 25 and I finally am doing it! I’m soooo scared esp as a woman. I booked Paris, London, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, and Switzerland so far! Winter will be for asia 😅
Currently solo traveling in Uganda! Would love to see you return to Africa and showcase the underrated beauty of the continent. :) Amazing content and video! I originally found you from a video u made a long time ago about going out solo as a woman haha. Love that you’ve taken us with you on this journey.
i adore solo travel!! this video was so spot on and i even learned some new tips. i moved abroad to spain for 3 years without knowing a soul besides my boss and i've solo traveled to to cities there and my dream this past spring i went to paris
Have you ever experienced anxiety while travelling? Do you have any tips? Also what do you do when you fall sick? I think it's one of my fears when travelling
Hey friend, I have also travelled alone in Singapore. I do also experience travel anxiety which makes me feel so depressed. However, after reading some blogs and watching some videos, I realize travel anxiety is normal since the fear of visiting an unfamiliar place may be human nature. By the way, here are some tips for you; I hope they help! Firstly. I will try to figure out and identify my triggers. What makes me feel anxious? It could be specific to traveling, such as planning a trip, boarding a plane, or having a social phobia. After realizing what makes me anxious, I’ll try to comfort myself that everything is ok; it is just an experience that led us to step out of our comfort zone! Stay optimistic! Besides, I will also plan for certain scenarios since the “what if” aspect of traveling is the main cause of travel anxiety. I will list out some circumstances that may happen and try to provide solutions so that when things happen in reality, I will not feel so panicky. For the part that falls sick during traveling, I had never tried it before. But I think you can bring some medicines and buy travel health insurance so that you will be sure the insurance will cover you.
That's for sure the best video that I have ever watched about the topic: motivating, with all of the useful info that someone wanting to solo travel could need...thank you so much!💖
My first-time solo traveling was to Athens Greece. It wasn't the plan to go solo but something happened and I had to decide do I still go or not. I did and didn't regret it. I plan on going to Rome next year.
Thank you shared with your story. I was interested because I go to make a journey alone this summer. Not far from the city where I live in. This is exciting for me 🤩🥰
When I travel I like to visit popular (usually busy) restaurants and go to the pool and actually get in, maybe even have a drink….and both those activities are hard for me to be solo! 😩
In 3 weeks I am doing my first solo trip outside of my home continent, i am super nervous and scared, but I always wanted to go there and as a single gal it’s difficult to find friends who can go on vacation at the same time and do not want to spend their time on their boyfriend.
This was so satisfying, Jo, thank you again! I can't wait for my next solo-trip now as I save funds & energy... they truly are needed, rewaring experiences + I needed a couple of these tips/reminders to live it up to the fullest! I've also racked up personal habits over the years of when having the privledge of studying abroad, but it can be so easier said than done + just a rollercoaster of experiences~ ALSOOOO---**Congrats** simply for applying to film school out there, I hope you get in and/or still continue to master your craft in any way you can, wherever you can. +I'd love to do film/artistry with you in the future as well of course (!) We will be journaling/manifesting in the meantime ;-) Peace n love from NYC to London // Whereva you may be now ~

omg I also started solotraveling with 25! i started with 3 days in Berlin, then a weekend in Rotterdam for a festival, then 1 week in Island to 2 1/2 weeks in Japan & Korea :D now i want to do a work & travel year in Japan and want to solo-travel to the countries around (Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, HongKong...) :D
You can solo travel in your own hometown or country… love that love that
I’ve been watching you since I was about 12/13 and i’m 21 now!!
Me 21, never been to far from home am moving aproad. I am super excited. Thank you for your tips 😊
Ive travelled with a partner before, and along the same lines of bringing a journal to a coffee shop and people wanting to strike up a conversation, we found the same thing with chess actually 😂 we would play chess on an app and it was surprising how many people randomly just walked up and asked who was winning
I definitely want more of this! As someone who is terrified to be alone, anything and everything helps
It amaze me how every time I need to feel relax I just go and watch one of your videos and I know it would make me feel happy
This is such a lovely comment, thank you!
Get it, girl! You’re gorgeous and inspiring and I thank you!
Language tripes are the best! Love this and love your channel! Love your whole journey from Brazil to the present! 🥰😇🙏🙏🙏
Thank you. Im just starting my language learning journey in Turkey. These tips will really help.
i was wondering where i saw your face before… i knew it wasn’t on youtube. i remember now, i keep seeing your ads for Pimsleur. so memorable 😂 i love Pimsleur, it’s well worth the subscription. i’m tightening up my spanish and then learning Brasilian portuguese ❤
I agree so much with your takedown solo travel! Thank you Jo
Thank you for sharing your video. Have a blessed day.
loved the episode!
These are one of favourite types of videos. Please do more and more on this topic.
This is such real, actually helpful advice. 0 time wasted watching this, so refreshing. U so smart jo
so much rich food for thought here. I love your reflection about the benefit of not being 'influenced' when travelling alone. Love x
Just as I am watching this I am in the middle of packing up my apartment to go travelling , with no set return date.
I will be travelling around Australia in my Van . Nervous 😬 & Excited also.
Have you tried a solo meal?
@@jofranco Possibly but probably just not been mindful of the fact that such a thing existed.
While travelling I will try it. At the time of writing I am still packing up my house & possessions.
Solo travels the best thing I've done! Love these tips
Great tips! I can agree with all of them (except I’ve never done the dating app part). I took my first solo trip 7 years ago to Barbados & just did my second solo trip to Arizona last week & had the most amazing/aligned time!
This conversation made me subscribe. Thank you. You are a wise soul.
Thanks Jo!
Thank you so much for this
I got to see your video only now, but everything you said totally matches what I've experienced so far!!
As for hotels, I will leave a small piece of advice read the reviews about a hotel beforehand so you can know what you are getting into.
thank you. truly your thoughts are healing and so inspiring.
Hi Jo,you need to make a video just about travelling stories, you got me hooked on the story at the restaurant and you had an eye contact with a lady who helped you out, wanna hear more. Love to hear people wierd stories
GOATED!, I really love your lexicon!
Randomly came across your channel. And I’m so glad! You have inspired me embark on my own solo travel journey. Thank you 🌸
wish i had seen this before i went to berlin! but im going to new york in september so i’ll definitely be following these tips!!
You shared some very powerful tips and insights. Thanks
Happy I found you again ❤
Currently solo traveling in Uganda! Would love to see you return to Africa and showcase the underrated beauty of the continent. :) Amazing content and video! I originally found you from a video u made a long time ago about going out solo as a woman haha. Love that you’ve taken us with you on this journey.
That is so cool, can I ask how was your experiance in uganda as a solo female traveller?
@@Anna-nq8po I’m a travel vlogger in Uganda and I can tell you that it is safe and you’ll love it here.
im going on my first ever solo trip in may and your tips have been super helpful thank you

That's for sure the best video that I have ever watched about the topic: motivating, with all of the useful info that someone wanting to solo travel could need...thank you so much!💖
thank you jo. you make me feel confident and powerful. lots of love to youuu
Love this video! Thank you for sharing your experiences 🙂
Thanks for god watching ❤️
25 making a selfish decision is huge. I’m 57 and just making that decision. Good for you!!!
What a timely video. I have been feeling so guilty about wanting to have some time for myself. Thanks for the confirmation girl.
My first-time solo traveling was to Athens Greece. It wasn't the plan to go solo but something happened and I had to decide do I still go or not. I did and didn't regret it. I plan on going to Rome next year.
This video is so great
Walking tours are the best to meet others
LOVE all the tips!! Totally agree with all these ❤
Thank you shared with your story. I was interested because I go to make a journey alone this summer. Not far from the city where I live in. This is exciting for me 🤩🥰
Great video! Thank you ✨
Wishing you all the best 👍 and thanks for sharing your lovely video with us ❤❤❤
Thanks for the tips Jo! these are very helpful! 🙌🏾 also this video was very aesthethically pleasing to watch ❤️
When I travel I like to visit popular (usually busy) restaurants and go to the pool and actually get in, maybe even have a drink….and both those activities are hard for me to be solo! 😩
I just did 8 European countries alone a week ago and met the best people, food and had the best time -
This is super helpful. Thank you ❤
Love your energy! Love your spirit. Thank you. I'm subscribing now.
Honestly, I miss solo travelling, I don't have to compromise just do whatever I what and be at peace 😌
You're sooo beautiful Jo Franco😍😍😍. Thanks so much for the travel tips 🥰💕
Oh my gosh Jo, watching your videos is so inspiring … you seriously got me to gett up and goooooooo 🎉🎉
I went backpacking in Italy for 12 days from USA bc of ur videos in 2016 :) luv ya!
In 3 weeks I am doing my first solo trip outside of my home continent, i am super nervous and scared, but I always wanted to go there and as a single gal it’s difficult to find friends who can go on vacation at the same time and do not want to spend their time on their boyfriend.
You’ll do great! Sign up for a class or tour!
I loved solo travel and I like your video 😊
Welcome in London Jo! will you do any 'events' or 'meetup' in london?
I should! Maybe in august!
This was so satisfying, Jo, thank you again! I can't wait for my next solo-trip now as I save funds & energy... they truly are needed, rewaring experiences + I needed a couple of these tips/reminders to live it up to the fullest! I've also racked up personal habits over the years of when having the privledge of studying abroad, but it can be so easier said than done + just a rollercoaster of experiences~
ALSOOOO---**Congrats** simply for applying to film school out there, I hope you get in and/or still continue to master your craft in any way you can, wherever you can. +I'd love to do film/artistry with you in the future as well of course (!) We will be journaling/manifesting in the meantime ;-)
Peace n love from NYC to London // Whereva you may be now ~
Wow, you just walked past my place in London 😂 I recognised Shoreditch High St
