Eating alone at a restaurant is easier if you sit at the bar. You’ll easily be able to strike up conversations with other solo diners and it becomes fun!
I actually love dining alone in a foreign place cuz I know I won't bump into anyone I know 😂 and I don't care if strangers judge me. But it's always gonna be hard trying something new for the first time, I feel like it gets more comfortable the more you do it.
I travelled a lot for work many moons ago. Eating alone was something that took me a while to finally feel comfortable doing, but I'm an enthusiastic foodie so I was up for the challenge. It was in the days before smart phones so I would often have a little notebook that I used for writing down recipe ideas and food combinations from the menu while I was dinning. I still use my notebooks for inspiration in the kitchen, they're nice reminders of a different time in my life.
I think the reason I enjoy your vlogs so much is they’re like shots from a movie scene, the effort that goes into making those walking shots of yourself I don’t know if ppl understand how much work that is especially when your shoes are killing you 😭 but I just have to say makes the transitions and the flow of your videos so relaxing and easy to watch! Paired with a chill and fun personality. Sorry went on a rant but new subscriber and binged all your vlogs lol
I am now in London, doing master degree and it’s the very first time for me to go outside Asia alone. Your blog literally encouraged me to try something by myself🥺🥺 Being in London is still overwhelming and feels lonely (a lot) but I’ll try to appreciate the time I have here. I am looking forward to your next blogs❤❤❤
I went to Paris last December (for the first time) and i had the option to either get room service or go out and eat alone bc the person i was with didn't wanna go. I remember thinking to myself, i'm in PARIS ffs let me romanticize my life and go eat by myself so i got super dressed up and went on a fancy candlelit restaurant had a sensational meal watched the Christmas lights and had the best time. at first i felt awkward when they asked "just you?" but then i felt powerful. It made me think of Carrie Bradshaw in that episode where she dined alone with no 'armor'.
I love how honest you were about your dining alone experience! 😊 I agree, having dinner alone in a restaurant is rare while I think having breakfast or a coffee alone is much more common, but it should all be normalised. 💕
I went to Kyoto for a few days by myself and went to a fancy place where the chef cooked in front of me and it was so liberating to be there by myself, staring off into space, and watching the chef cook and listen to people talk around me. I can't wait yo go back to Paris to do the same thing there ❤
@@中西-p4m I didn't think eating alone in Paris is too much harder but I also prefer to be out and about during the day and people watching while eating so that helps it feel easier for me
I love eating and doing activities by myself! I’m the only child and idk I’m just used to it! But it’s nice seeing other people do the same! Glad you tried it!
As someone who has been to Paris several times, and in my opinion this is the most beautiful city in the world, I’m happy about this trend because I’d love to see my favorite city less crowded and with fewer lines for the attractions. The less people go to Paris the better for me to enjoy it.
People are allowed to dislike what you like . It doesn’t make it a “trend” . A lot of people last summer wanted to travel because it’s the first time they were able to due to covid restrictions . Because of the hype Paris was one of the top on the list . A lot of people were disappointed given the hype and were vocal about it . More people disliked it than liked it but that doesn’t make it a ”trend”. Once we stop categorizing everything on the internet as a trend it will be a much less annoying place . Sincerely someone who dislikes Paris and parisians not because it’s a trend or to “look different” 😂 . Definitely willing to try living with a local to see a different vibe lol .
When I was there for our TV show, it felt the days like a black-and-white movie in desperate need of some French subtitles. But, whether you're savoring croissants, exploring the Louvre (while trying not to get lost in there), or just soaking in the romantic vibes, Paris is like a city where 'romance meets reality,' and 'clichés' are all part of the charm! I'll love to be back here and hopefully, my travel dart would soon hit Paris.
I travel solo (most of the time) and been to Paris over 30x... yet still find having a dinner alone a little intimidating... any other meal is fine but dinner is somehow different. Having earphones and book definitely helps! Well done for doing the first step - it's always the hardest!

Speaking to solo dining, being introverted that's something I do enjoy and I have found it really isn't as uncommon or perceived as weird by others wherever I have travelled. People are immersed in their own narratives and enjoying hopefully their meals and company that me sitting by myself is just that. My partner and I have also have been together close to five years and we like to have days where we just do our own thing such as dining, doing solo dates. I've found I can recharge my battery in being around other people without having to expend social energy. It also makes me excited to come back to a place with a friend or my partner down the road if it resonates with me. Trying new things will be daunting, I'm so happy you went out of your comfort zone and did have a lovely time. Really appreciated your view as I can relate to it initially being anxiety inducing but as with anything, there are so many perspectives and merits to trying something new especially in your own company.
you're so cute!!! doing things on your own can be sooooooo scary and nerve-racking, but it's exciting and can be so lovely too. I'm proud of you for stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new!

I have started travelling alone in the last couple of years and would say going somewhere not too fancy and taking a book, notebook or sketch pad really helps! 😊
I hope you enjoy yourself! I stayed in the same building during my trip there in March. I loved the area and all of the local shop owners were so welcoming. ❤
I mostly hang out at coffee shops by myself but I have never been to a restaurant alone, I'd love to try it one day! It was beautiful seeing Paris through your eyes Alia ❤

I went to that restaurant when I was there! Considering your dining out choices are always so well planned I’m so pleased with myself for picking there too, can’t wait for more Paris content!
I know from experience that I dont like to have dinner by myself, the food and ambiance is just less enjoyable.. but going for a solo coffee date, that I love:)
i also feel uncomfortable eating out on my own, but mainly because for me being out is not worth it if i’m not spending it with friends. like, obviously is an important thing to treat ourselves and do things out of our comfort zone. i just feel like in the long run, the money spent eating out are worth it because of the people that you did it with. ❤ ahhhh i hope this makes sense

bringing a book is really nice when you're dining alone! or your journal. it's a little awkward with food but still nice to have something to do other than look at your phone
One of the first times I did go alone to eat was the worst situation because I ended up in an empty (small) restaurant. I felt all the time that I’m being watched 😅

I would recommend taking a book with you when eating dinner alone. That way you avoid being on your phone and feeling like you have nothing to do. I Especially do that when waiting for food! But also while eating, so I won’t eat so fast and actually enjoy and indulge.
I totally get you about going out for a dinner by-yourself thing. It's not comfortable for introverts like myself. I always try to remind myself of that scene where Carrie sits outside and orders herself a glass of wine alone, but even that does not work for me hahaha
