I really appreciate this episode. I am in my early 20's and have been introduced to the knowledge of earning money, however with it, I've started to crave a "lavish" lifestyle. This video reminded me of my younger self who wanted a simple comfortable life and that all that glitters isnt gold.
It's true - it's crazy how when we settle into our own "enoughs" we can be so much more "nourished." And what I've realized is like ... damn, this peace of mind is so rich.

"We should respect the reality of our changing minds." This is where I am right now! I've always loved the process of learning and sharing what I know with others, so I went into teaching. But now I see huge aspects of this path that go against my core desires- the only way to advance in this career is through teaching for longer or getting more degrees. Being in a professions where I feel that my performance is largely ignored doesn't inspire me to do my best. I also feel trapped in my small town since I've discovered my love for travel! In this career alone, I don't think I can ever achieve financial freedom. Time to see how I can transfer my skills

I really liked this format of a short podcast in between longer ones with an interview attached. It feels like a community meeting where ideas are being exchanged with you in the comments versus the longer ones where I get so engrossed in the conversation and start and stop to google the person and write down notes. This is so timely! I've been working on building my savings up this year as one of my resolutions. I've placed money into the stock market and have opened a CV along with a second savings account that I don't touch. I'm late to the game for my age bracket, but it feels good that I'm learning to "demystify" money for myself and well-being.
This episode was spot on! I am looking to add more books to my collection and I really do need to have a better connection with my money. I recently just came back from a solo trip to Dallas and Jo, my trip was quite expensive due to gas prices being extremely high, and the cost of basic items has now increased. Traveling nowadays is quite costly, so it is so crucial to save and educate ourselves on managing our money. I am a beginner when it comes to investing and girl, It's a whole ballpark for me!

I listened to the audio book. It is very interesting, the part about Bill Gates, his school, his mother helping him, and the woman working in a sweatshop. I saw the thumbnail and I decided to ask you my question here. How can I make the accent mark above the "e" in Portugues and the "a" in sao? I already set my keyboard to Portuguese. I'm going to Brazil next year😊
Okay, first of all I'm so excited to read this book! Ordering it now :) Also I just read a chapter in "Sapiens" by Yuval Noah Harari (which I would definitely recommend reading!) about the Agricultural Revolution and how it essentially allowed for the human population to explode but made quality of life exponentially less enjoyable because work hours increased. What you were saying about lifestyle and the emotional cost of high paying jobs was definitely reminiscent of this. Lots of things to think about!
Juizo is like the equivalent of that scene with the mom shouting "Make good choices!" My goal with money has never been to be in a certain level of wealth, but to be able to have more time. I just got a new job as a Jr. Art Director and am really hoping it will give me the freedom to work on my own goals while I'm developing my skills there ^-^
RE: the 8 million dollar guy I have a different take- I'd rather die a 4 million dollar girl, having enjoyed the money and shared some. Seemed like he squeezed himself all his life to DIE WITH MONEY...which I get it he donated some or much of it...but where was the joy...maybe the joy for him was in the frugality- which I get some folks have. I just want to offer another way to view it.
few things here before i take advice. how did she buy a house in cash? this is a very common trope i hear from folks who inherited lots of dough from a relative or were born into wealth. I've been following her since she was dorming with the gay dude and never understood where the cash for the lavish trips were coming from.
