- Robin's Book Club Episode 61: TO:KY:OO by Liam Wong
Tokyo has to be one of the most amazing cities on the planet, and it is right at the top of places I want to visit. Wong's photos are incredible, so atmospheric. What do you think of the book?

Very nice, as a Sci-Fi fan its right up my street on that level too!
Loving the sci-fi feel too, absolutely :)
I love it ! The colorful cinematic claustrophobia is wonderful. Not derivative, but I do get alot of Bladerunner vibes in a good way. I really like the background colors at the beginning of the book,I think it adds to the enjoyment. Thank you.
thank you for this comment, I'm thinking of picking up another of his books, as I also found a lot to like here :)
Thanks for this video. It helped me a lot ❤️
I'm so glad!
Brilliant
Its a bit different isn't it but I love it :)
Quite interesting, but maybe too much post production of the images, in my opinion.
It's not how I work, but I appreciate the skill and vision :)
Could you make a video about a book by Vivian maier
I don't know if I've got any, will check :)
I thought there were some great images in the book. The editing supported the colourful techno world of Tokyo. I wasn't sold on the manipulated and digitally layered images as I bought the book thinking that it was pure 'street' style. Also there are a large number of images, I think 250. When making way through the book the images/compositions began to repeat themselves. There were a lot of looking down the alley shots with no real subject matter other than the alley itself. From my perspective the series would have been stronger with far fewer photos included. In the end I returned the book thinking that I could use the money better elsewhere and I bought Bruce Gilden's Cherry Blossum.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. As you say it's not street photography, I think knowing about Liam's professional life helps make sense of it.
What did you think of Cherry Blossom? I love Bruce Gilden :)

Its a pretty cool book but it lacks any story, he nailed the style he wanted, irrespective of using any editing techniques or not. Maybe the lack of any strong subjects could be a reason why I couldn't as much empathize with it. The use of colour and light is great. It's got okay compositions nonetheless. Take away the editing on the pictures and most of them would look common to the Tokyo people atleast. But as they've mentioned in the foreword, its Liam's world, so the edits in addition to his photography is what makes it whole and stylish
