Quick tutorial on how to get back on the road if your key fob battery dies. Don't get locked out, and don't feel like your stranded!
This process will work with most Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, & Ram vehicles with push button start. For other manufacturers comment what you have below and I'll be happy to make a video to show the process for it as well!.

OMG you just saved me‼️🤦🏼♀️I knew my battery was low but my car started reading no key fob detected. I took my daughter and 10 mo old granddaughter to the car auction (an hour away) and fob battery died so did my push start. Omg this helped me so much today we are in florida and my husband went into the ocean with he key fob in his pocket and damaged the key and this video helped us!!! We were so desperate cuz we didn't know how we were going to commute now this is the first day of 6 days we will be here. My 2014 charger want start either. I’m getting “key fob not detected”even after changing the battery.. and the ignition Want go into “ACC” or “ON” mode. Also..the chip method doesn’t work when I press the push to start with the fob itself. So I don’t know what what else to do without taking it to a mechanic or the dealership. Can you guys please help me and give some suggestions.. I would greatly appreciate it. The car has been sitting for 2 months now and bought only 4 months ago. Thanks guys

Hey Matt thanks for the video I just had my key fob battery replaced but it doesn't work so I have it replaced again making sure that I am using same battery model number and have it personally unpacked from its factory pack just to be extra sure its new and still it doesn't work no button works !!!

Usually keys purchased anywhere but the dealership have about a 50/50 chance of being able to be programmed. If your Jeep Cherokee doesn't have remote start then ask your local Jeep Dealer if OEM remote start is available for it. Typically the oem system comes with 2 new fobs with the remote start integrated and only costs a hair more than getting a second key made. :)

Hold down the brake and push the button with the fob.
Keep in mind also that even the failsafe will fail if the fuse blows under your hood. I would suggest because this has happened to me twice now that you locate the fuse for watts known as the RF hub. It may grand Cherokee it’s fuse F51 get a back up it’s a simple 15 amp micro fuse prefab fuse blows guess what you’re stranded a fuse, stranded. I want my key back regular key
I have a good battery in my key fob but still have to do this to crank it.. what do I need to do to just push to start?
Not sure about your case, but I had a main car battery dying, and it caused this issue. Went away after it died completely and I swapped it out.
When I put keypad up to push start it still want start … is keypad bad??

Does this work when its not working due to cold? I wotk outside so it gets cold sometimes if not in my pants pocket or i leave it in my car. I have had to use a blow dryer or put it on bare skin to warm it up. But would love a better solution. Will try this if it happens again. But incase not i wanted to ask before hand.
Yes it should work if the key fob battery has been drained from being too cold. Not working from being cold could be a sign that it's time for a new key fob battery though. You can get a new CR2025 battery pretty inexpensively at a local store or online.

Thats Chrysler. will it work on GM/FORD to?
Usually GM and Ford's have a different process. On GM's often times there's a pocket for the fob to slide into either in the center console or in the glove box. On Ford's I've seen some that require you to place the fob in the cup holder. If you have a specific vehicle you'd like to know the process for I'd be happy to help you out.
I had this issue with my 2015 Chrysler 200. I replaced the fob battery and it still stayed key not detected. The car unlocks, locks, panics and opens the trunk (both new and old batteries). My key did however snap in the front and a plastic piece in the middle. Because it is not reading the physical start up, could it be a faulty key in general or something with the system?

help Matt my daughters key somehow detached from remote so she hasnt had it a while, recently the car woint lock it stops working themn remote will work again so we are getting a battery to try that...wold losing the silver key malfunction anything? how do we go about getting another?
Losing the physical key won't change the operation of the remote, but it does limit your options on being able to enter the locked car if the key fob battery or car battery dies. Your local Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership can order you a new cut key if you provide them the VIN # for the car. If you have a reputable locksmith locally some can also do vehicle key replacements and may be a little more inexpensive than a dealership.

2014 Cherokee. My fob was worn out. Got a new one. Problem solved.
I have a 2015 Chrysler 300 it needed the shift module replaced now get this fixed it says something about the stabilizer bar traction control is not on also the car will not move in drive or reverse if the driver door is open .Tried to put the car in drive last night it made some kind of a popping noise would not move. Drive light was flashing.locked the doors came back in 30 minutes car works fine.
Good afternoon Dani, most new cars now days have safety mechanisms in place to prevent vehicles from moving if the driver's door is open and the seat belt isn't latched. Some do it via engaging electric parking brake and some will do it via shifting the transmission into park and flashing the drive indicator as you mentioned. If you for some reason have to move the vehicle with the door open make sure you seat belt is latched. If that's not the case then you may need to have it looked at closer by a certified mechanic.
Okay but what if you lose the key fob and have to call a lock Smith?

Where do I buy a new key fob battery?
Most department stores should carry them. I believe it is a 2032 3V battery. But I suggest removing it first to confirm before buying one. The same battery is commonly used in watches. And other small electronics.

@@Chrismckinney1 sounds like you may have a dead car battery instead of a dead key fob battery. If you accidently left the headlights or dome light on over night you might be able to jump start it and be good after that. But if the battery has just gone bad in the car it would need to be replaced with a new one. Best to have a local mechanic lend you a hand and properly diagnose what is going on with your vehicle.

My suggestion would probably be to Uber or Lyft to the hospital if those services are available in your area.

When you unlock the car with the physical key most definitely. However once you start it with the key fob against the start button it turns it off.

@@Express2689 is it possible that the car battery is dead? Will the radio come on or the headlights? Sounds like it may need jump started.
@@MattatJayHatfield Everything electrical works the radio comes on but there is no sound. All windows and lights work
@@Express2689 sorry to hear this, sounds like there may be more wrong than just a dead key fob battery. If it's under 5 years and under 60k miles you may need to give roadside assistance a call to have it towed to the nearest dealer to be properly diagnosed.
If that still doesn’t start my car does it mean it’s a starter issue
It could depend on a couple things. Do the dome lights come on when you open the door? If not, I would look towards a dead battery in the car. If dome lights come on, and stereo, guages, etc come on when you try this method then I'd look towards possible ignition or starter issue. Might be best to have a certified mechanic take a closer look at it at this point.

I wouldn't expect them to both go dead at the same time but who knows. Sounds more like the battery in the Pacifica may have died in which you can use the same procedure to get into the vehicle, pop the hood and jump start with with a jump pack or second vehicle.
@@MattatJayHatfield the car starts fine, just not detecting key fobs, both of them. but I know how to start car etc,,and people might not know this, you can simple take the fob to rear trunck of car and press unlock lock a couple times, then will recognize but when you try to start you still have press fob to start button. Oh by the way the transmission is banging here and there with only 25k on it. My wife and I are turning this car in in 5 months anyways. P>S> the hood is bubbling in very front, I guess the aluminum is separating ,Happy Holidays

I just saw another video of a different car, theres a spot where you insert the keyfob in the vehicle, i just dont know if they 200 has that
Some brands such as Nissan and Chevrolet have spots to insert the fob. However on Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram products you just use the fob to press the start button. There is one exception to this though, some older vehicles came with an OEM push button start "upgrade". With these the key fobs look more tear dropped with what appears to be a plastic nib on the end that appears to be meant to insert somewhere. With those vehicles the Start button will pop out by prying it with the metal key and the fob will insert into that key slot the button was in. Now show me how to do it if I lose my key fob?
In that instance you call and have it towed to the nearest Chrysler dealership, provide them with your VIN # and show proof of ownership (registration, insurance, etc.) and they will cut and program a new fob for you.
Does NOT WORK with Nissan Sentra
You are correct! Although newer models I believe are adopting this method, often older Sentras will have a slot in the dash or glove box that the key fob has to be inserted in then you can press the start button to start the engine.

Sorry this method didn't resolve your issue. With the cold weather we're experiencing this week it could be the car battery that's dead instead of the key fob.
