    Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I actually had to DEMAND that my boyfriend did this procedure. He said it was a waste of time. I had to stand and watch him take off both cables. The look on his face when it started was priceless. Girlfriend diagnoses problem, problem fixed... High five for girlfriend power!!!

    I have the 2013 vw jetta 2.5 and Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes fixed mine as well. Unfortunately i took it to the dealership before i found this video and had to pay $125 diagnostic fee for them to tell me they couldn't figure it out but thier recommendation was i needed a new reader coil at the cost of another $565. I found this while i was waiting to hear back from them and told them no on that service. Thank you for the video you saved me some money and a huge headache!

    Even after getting a second key programmed which I needed anyway but it wasn’t the key that was the issue. This was my last hope before calling the mechanic and it worked, thank you so so much , you saved me a trip and potentially hundreds of dollars just trying to get this diagnosed. I had a 2008 Mazda CX nine grand touring with the smart key.

      Lacie Smith not a problem! Glad it helped! :) You may continue to get the error in the future. If hitting the lock or unlock button does not help, just do the same thing you did tonight. If you need a full reset, just disconnect the battery for around 5 mins then hook it back up and give it a try :)

    This happened to my daughter’s Mazda 6. I did what you recommended and ‘voila’ it worked. The Mazda owner’s manual told me to take it in to the Mazda dealer - so now I don’t have to pay AAA for towing and the dealer tons of money. This is such an amazing and easy fix!

    On Christmas Eve morning, we were starting our 2 hour drive home and stopped to get gas and road trip goodies. We got back into the car and it wouldn’t start for “No Key Detected.” We took the batteries out of the fob, looked through the manual (didn’t look good enough, I guess) and eventually resorted to the Internet where we found this video. Skeptical about the fix being as easy as a hidden pocket in our console but willing to try anything, we put the fob in and pushed the Start button. It started! It’s a Christmas miracle - haha! Thank you for posting this video.

    Thanks for the video. This is the 4th time I have had this issue on our 2015 Edge. First two times the Dealer couldn't find anything, 3rd time, they replaced the battery in the vehicle. I have replaced the batteries in the FOBs several times. I get the "No key detected error" at times then I get the "Press the brake error" all of the time now while I am actually pressing the brake. I have tried placing the FOB into the "by-pass" slot with no luck. I will try to pull the battery cables off at lunch. If that doesn't work, my next decision will be to decide on what wall to bang my head against.. Any ideas what would fix the vehicle?

    • @therep49er
      @therep49er  6 років тому +3

      Sorry you are having a rough time with your vehicle.
      My best guess and it purely a guess, since everything you listed has been done, the only thing that remains that I can think of would be some type of electronic or computer component in the car. If it is that, hopefully it is a warranty repair.
      Since this happened in my car, I have not had many or any issues like I was prior to disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. The issues I did have after resetting everything were likely because I walked too far from the car with the keys. In which case it was responding properly.
      Best of luck, hope the reset remedies your issue or that it is a warranty repair.

    Edit: This did work for me after reading your timely response...Thank you!
    This did not work for me.... changed the keyfob battery too....it gives "no key detected" & "incorrect key ID" messages.
    The keyfob still operates the locks, trunk, radio, etc, ....it just won't start.
    If you push the start button with the key, it will attempt to start with just clicking noises.
    Also, I had the battery disconnected long enough to lose the radio presets

    • @therep49er
      @therep49er  2 роки тому +2

      That's a bummer! Some of the symptoms you are describing lead me to think your car battery may be weak. If so, that could be why your locks work but it won't start or just clicks.

      I thought the battery was good cuz my nephew checked the volts with a multimeter, but sure enough, that was the problem.
      After reading your reply, I tried jumping the car with my truck & got a slight amount of rotation & no "wrong key" messages. Left it hooked up for 5 m8nutes with the same result so I put my daughter's Altima battery in & it fired right up!

      If you checked the fob battery, disconnected the car battery for a few minutes, then it is possible you might have to reprogram the key. If you have a spare key, try using the spare and see if the issues persist with the spare key.

    • @therep49er

      No special tools needed. You either need a 3/8 or 1/2 inch wrench, or in metric sizes a 10 mm or 13 mm wrench. Most tool sets nowadays come with both. You want to use the one that is most snug on the nut or bolt.
      You can use a ratchet and socket or wrenches, whichever fits easiest.

      Unfortunately, this does sound like a mechanical issue. If the fob works for lock/unlock but not starting, I would bet it is the fob or the part that receives the signal for starting. That is a best guess though.

    I have a 2014 Lincoln MKS. I have an intermittent problem with both keys. I have new batteries in both fobs. Sometimes, I cannot open the locks with the touch sensor, sometimes I can. I can unlock the car with the fob from 30-40 feet away, so it has a good signal. When I get into the car again sometimes, I get the "No Key Detected" Error. When this happens, while sitting in the car, I use the fob to unlock/relock the car doors and it usually starts right up afterwards. I do not have any issues starting the car (when the key is detected), so I do not think my car battery is going out. I will disconnect the batty to reset the system, but I do not think this is the problem since it is intermittent.
    I disconnected the auto battery and place it on a trickle charger to top it off (suggested from another video). After 5 hours, I cleaned the terminals and hooked everything back up. Did not fix. I have the same issues with both keys.
    Suggestions, thanks.

      Try testing the battery in your key fob at a local auto parts store. The key fob batteries only last 1.5 - 3 yrs depending on use. Even a weak fob battery can cause the issue.

      Fastlane 519 I am not 100% sure if taking both cables off will work for you or not. If you have replaced the batteries in both key fobs and the problem is persisting, (if it were me and my vehicle) I would try disconnecting both car battery cables and letting it stay disconnected for 5-10 minutes. Re-connect the car battery and see if that solves your problem. If not, you may have to take it into the dealership unfortunately.

    Had this issue with my 2010 Taurus Limited Intelligent Access Key( push button start) so I changed the fob battery and the car battery and still kept getting no key detected. Well i ended up finding the problem and it was the wiring harness under drivers seat. My driver seat moves every time i get in or out of car and that harness moves also since its clipped to bottom of seat and over time it caused a wire to sort. This harness comes from the center console to the bottom front of driver seat and its part of the cars immobilizer module that under center console. I found the short by luck and by putting my hand under seat and moving harness and when it moved the right way it registered my key and started

      Make sure your key Fob battery is good.
      Your car battery has an "acceptable range" for its specs of CCA (cold cranking amps) and physical size that will fit in the car. Along with some other things. But, the CCA and physical size are the most common concerns. Top or side post doesn't make a difference. All that matters there is getting the same post style battery so you don't have to change connections.

      @therep49er  2 роки тому

      Unfortunately without your key, your only option is a tow truck to get it home or to a dealership/mechanic. The dealership can likely make you a new key based off your VIN number.
      A mechanic can possibly replace your whole ignition tumbler. But, if you need the original key for anything else (trunk, doors, gas cap ect.) you will still need the original key.
      So, best advice if your car is not already at home, get it towed to your Nissan dealership of choice and have them make you a key... Better yet, 2 keys. If the car is at home, get your VIN #, call the dealership and tell them your VIN and request a key. This may take one day... or 5 or 10? It just depends on what their process is and what they need to do.

    Ive exhausted all other options so might as well ask here too.. We're having this issue with a 2015 Ford Focus SE and it keeps getting no key detected even though its got a physcial key. When it happens 3 other issues all come up at the same time, doors wont lock/unlock, blinker wil randomly stay on after completing a turn, and the hill climb assist disables.. All within a span of about 10 minutes these will all happen. The only fix seems to be D/c battery but the issue just eventually comes back within a day.. Brought to a mechanic and they checked battery, charging system, and electrical and couldnt find any problems. OF COURSE the issue wouldnt happen for them for the 4 days they had it so they were unable to replicate the issue and troublehsoot with it happening.. Any suggestions please!
    We've replaced the battery in the key fob as well just in case..

      Well... This one is pretty different. Let me do some digging tonight while I am at work. I will see what I can figure out.

    • @therep49er
      @therep49er  Рік тому

      Is your Focus included in a "Door Latch Recall"? The dealership should be able to confirm that with just a phone call and your VIN#. A faulty door latch could cause the won't lock/unlock issue.
      For the "no key detected" since you said you have a physical key, I assume you do NOT have push to start? If you do not have push to start, do you have a spare of the physical key? If so, try the spare and see if the problem persists. Physical keys for that car still have a chip that transmits a signal when needed. If that chip is malfunctioning OR the vehicle has an electrical system issue, it can cause the no key detected issue.
      There is also potential that the keyless entry module is starting to go bad.
      Are you the only owner of the vehicle since it was new? Has it ever been in an accident? If you bought the car used, did it have a "rebuilt" title? If the car was in a serious accident, that can cause MANY little electrical and mechanical gremlins even after it was "repaired".
      For the hill climb assist... This also could have many gremlins to chase. Could be as simple as the Brake Light Switch needed to be replaced. That switch might affect your turn signal staying on to?
      It sounds like you have more than one issue affecting multiple areas of your vehicle. That is why I asked if it was in any accidents. I don't think you will get lucky enough to have a "quick fix" on this. I think you have many frustrating days ahead trying to chase and resolve these issues.

    I just drove the car 6 hours ago, and I found that it would not start this morning. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery terminals did not fix my problem. Getting no key detected error. But sometimes the car starts no problem. Already had a new key made and programmed... That wasn't the problem either.

      It sounds like there is a deeper problem. I know that you had a key made already, but make sure the battery in the fob is good. Otherwise, you are likely looking at possibly needing the dealership to diagnose/fix the issue.

    If you disconnect the battery in any car. You automatically wipe the radio stations. And if it is a newer vehicle it has anti theft Built-in the radio. Would need to get the code from the owner's manual or the dealer.

    • @therep49er
      @therep49er  2 роки тому

      In some cases you are correct. But, not all cases. It is extremely difficult to know all makes and models reactions with radios/anti theft when replacing/disconnecting the battery.
      But, I can tell you 100% for certain, 2010 Lincoln MKT has no loss of radio stations and no adverse reactions with any anti theft. This is also true for 2018 Chevy Silverado, 2019 Toyota Highlander, 2008 Jeep Patriot, 2013 Chevy Malibu, 2009 For Escape, 2012 GMC Acadia and Many other cars.
      2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, you do run a risk of losing radio stations and triggering the anti theft system.
