@@icalledherjanet I legit have short hair now (my hair was exactly like Paulys) and was okay with the growing process when I was younger, had zero cares then, and I told my friend I would let her cut it, and then the day came when she did, and the moment I seen the first lock drop down, I yelled “oh no what have I done.” then seeing myself with nearly a bald head, I was like “noooooo.” Even though I knew it was coming, still didn’t react well. It took a lot of getting used to, but now I legit tried growing it out since and hated the mid process look I never made it passed it, so I’m just content with the hair I have now, but there’s many days I miss the flow. 🤣😂
Yep. They started filming it shortly after I graduated basic there. C Battery 3/321st FA 4th PLT. My roommate in Germany was at Ft Jackson when they were filming Renaissance Man. You can see my him in the background of the dining hall scene.

If this was really accurate, Shore's head would have been shaved completely bald. My uncle was a Marine barber back in the 60s and 70s and he used to tell me about the huge mops of hair he had to shave off. Some of the recruits squirmed, some actually cried, but Uncle Mike was a no-nonsense barber and their heads were shaved whether they liked it or not!

There are a lot regulations and reasons for it. Although the standards have been relaxed a lot since my day. I went to basic training where this scene was filmed. Got my head shaved in that very room.
It's too comfrom everyone into looking the same. The whole idea of basic training is to break you down and rebuild you back into what they want you to be. Shaving heads is a way to let them know shit's about to get real.

But I remember when we were getting our headshave there was one guy who had long hair. When the barber got done cutting it he said to him I don't know what you did back on the block but I know you never went to the barber. Even the civilians treated us like shit😂
