The Vic Firth SD2 Bolero is made of maple instead of hickory so it is lighter than one would expect from such a thick stick. I guess that is a factor that also contributes a bit to Brian's sound.
My favorite drummer on the planet! His left side ride haunts my dreams! 😂 My fave as well. What a cool project! Nice job getting “THE” sound and articulating it’s characteristics. Thanks for sharing with us, Tim! Love your work!
Man, Love this channel! It's great how you delve into not only the technical bits of cymbals but also the musicianship and nuance required to achieve a particular sound. Real deal right here. Looking forward to seeing you with a million+ subs really soon!
This was my stick choice for many years purely because it draws the coolest low tones out of the ride. While it’s my favorite sounding stick, overall my favorite go-to’s are the AJ1’s, long taper, standard length, and not as thick. Great job on the cymbal! I wish I could sample it myself!
Sounds fantastic. I really like how your cymbals really transcend categories of ride or crash. All the ones I've heard in your videos function equally as both and produce many sounds depending on technique, intensity, etc., which really speaks to the styles of Brian Blade or Bill Stewart-two of my favorite contemporary drummers. 👍🤘
Great video Tim as always. I totally agree with your taste, especially with this particular cymbal. It sounds perfect from both sides of the kit. The crash is full and with the right amount of stick definition. You have some great cymbals but this is one sweet pie. Great chops too. Best wishes from Las Vegas.
The cymbal sounds very pleasing, it does remind me of a very thin crash/ride I have, those sticks seem to do some magic like you said. I can see that cymbal used also for rock gigs when you want to blend more than cut, and smooth sound is important.
Man that sounds outstanding! Great job! I literally just bought a cymbal two days ago or I’d be ordering one right now. Dang now I have to save up for another cymbal haha
Definitely. I've already done about 5 ride commissions modelled on this exact one. I’ve got a cymbal commission form (as well as one for hats and crashes) on the website. It has a bunch of info regarding the process and what to expect. reveriedrums.com/shop/p/ride-cymbal-commission On this form you can pick from one of my cymbal series (Landmark, Prism, Tributary, Foundation, Labyrinth, or “custom tailored”) and designate the size you want.
Thanks! The drums are a set of Reverie 8 ply, cherry drums: 18x9 kick, 12x8, 14x13 toms w/ matching wood hoops, and semi-round 45 reso edge/roundover batter edge. This kit is available on our site here: reveriedrums.com/shop/p/landmark-series-drums-cherry
Ironically, those are same sticks I have been using for a few years, thanks for your take on their relationship to the cymbals! ...thicker, but lighter stick, nice bead. Your 22" riveted ride is absolutely BEAUTIFUL... the cymbal seems to have more definition from behind then in front of the kit...still fantastic! I would be interested in this cymbal product. Saw your video from LA, Pro Drum. Is this an item I might order from Stan? . . . loving your channel. Paul- Tucson ...
Hey Paul! A cymbal like this can be ordered through my website since it's more of a custom thing: reveriedrums.com/shop/p/ride-cymbal-commission The Pro Drum guys have a small selection from my batch drops. Once they sell I may make them a few more.
Buenos Nachos Amigo, that cymbal sounds amazing. It’s like you know it had a pretty bad herion addition back in the late 80’s and a few bad divorces but he put all the pain and heartbreak into that complex soy sauce flavor. Beautiful
Jesus christ! Wonderful job! It sounds just like his left side cymbal, I’m thinking of that video of him playing I mean You, sounds just like it. I love Funch but I think you got a better copy of Brian’s cymbal then he does, all respect to Funch though!
Amazing cymbal. I could listen to an analysis of cymbals all day. One thing that I've noticed about Blade's choice of rides is that they all seem to have this dry attack with a complex (but clear) wash, and they're pretty high pitched. It's not trashy, it's clear, but I'm thinking they're rather on the heavier side. Sometimes in recordings they come across as super thin, especially because he crashes so easily but there's a video of Chick Corea playing Blade's kit during a soundcheck and you get to hear what they sound like BEHIND the kit and his rides come across as med, almost bordering on the heavy side. I have a 22" Landmark from you with 3 rivets that's on the med side and it's really dead on to what I'm hearing from Blade. The original 30th anniversary's came close but were too clear, then the newer ones are too trashy, where yours have that complexity but it's also clear. You've nailed it with this series.
Hi..you make awesome cymbals this is lovely..but I do generally go for extra thin ride cymbals..I think I need to contact you to make me a thin 20' ride ..I know I can rely on your skills..what drums are you using..
Do you have any patina videos? I've been trying to find out how to get a cymbal looking like a fr3ckled earthy meinl Byzance. I found a brass black solution on Amazon, and I got an interesting mottled effect on my mega bell, but not as much contrast as I'd hoped, but still, I'm not disappointed.
Yeah, I offer custom commissions on my website here: reveriedrums.com/shop/p/ride-cymbal-commission I email with everyone who orders and we discuss the exact specs and sound you're looking for.
First to say : this is a great cymbal. But please note : Roberto Spizzichino himself did not recognized the sound of the Brian ones he made , and he was very surprised about that once seen Brian play that . I own 3 spizzs cymbals and no one and any around in my knowlege sounds like the brian ones . This is a mistery . Yours is very similar to brian ones but the " sound " we all love most is his RIGHT ones and at the moment no ones sound similar , despite i purchssed some cymbals made expecially from famous cymbals makers promised similar but no way at all . So my question is : what can you do about the right ones ? 😎
Yep, I've heard that story. Roberto spoke about making a cymbal and then needing to analyze what he just did to try to figure it out. I have that experience often. There's a flow state you get into and then need to look back at the completed cymbal to ask "how the heck did I do that?". I'm currently analyzing a cymbal I made 3 yrs ago to try to figure out what I did. It's fun. As for the right Blade cymbals, I make those often too (both modelled after his 24" A and his 24" Spizz). They are a blast to make. Any of my 24" Landmark rides will be in some way or another aimed at that sound.
Sounds really great, almost the brian blade sound. For the money I would say that you're giving more than someone's money worth because it would cost thousands or a bunch of searching, luck, and good deals. The difference in cost and energy to acquire an exact brain blade sound is much further than the sound difference that you're offering. Again your sound is close enough.
Yeah, I offer custom commissions on my website here: reveriedrums.com/shop/p/ride-cymbal-commission I email with everyone who orders and we discuss the exact specs and sound you're looking for. This cymbal was a commission for a drum student looking for a cymbal that evoked Brian's left side and we designed this one together.
The Vic Firth SD2 Bolero is made of maple instead of hickory so it is lighter than one would expect from such a thick stick. I guess that is a factor that also contributes a bit to Brian's sound.
Very true! They're very lightweight for that reason.
I use them! So good
Brother, you should be very, very proud of this one. Sounds incredible and looks like a joy to play.
Thank you!
Brian-esk or not that's a great cymbal!!!. Love your videos brother.
Thank you Chris!
My favorite drummer on the planet! His left side ride haunts my dreams! 😂 My fave as well. What a cool project! Nice job getting “THE” sound and articulating it’s characteristics. Thanks for sharing with us, Tim! Love your work!
Mine too! Can’t get those sounds out of my head!
The Landmark series are some the best cymbals I've ever played!
Thanks Justin!
Man, Love this channel! It's great how you delve into not only the technical bits of cymbals but also the musicianship and nuance required to achieve a particular sound. Real deal right here. Looking forward to seeing you with a million+ subs really soon!
Thank you! I'm working on getting there! haha
this cymbal is a piece of art!
This was my stick choice for many years purely because it draws the coolest low tones out of the ride. While it’s my favorite sounding stick, overall my favorite go-to’s are the AJ1’s, long taper, standard length, and not as thick.
Great job on the cymbal! I wish I could sample it myself!

Man ,you know your job ! good taste, good explanation, it's a pleasure to watch your videos.
I appreciate that!

All the ones I've heard in your videos function equally as both and produce many sounds depending on technique, intensity, etc., which really speaks to the styles of Brian Blade or Bill Stewart-two of my favorite contemporary drummers. 👍🤘
Thank you Jeff! I definitely aim for those qualities with all the cymbals I make.
I'm glad you dig it! Thanks for watching.
Super nice cymbal, got to get my hands on one of your beautiful pies.
Thank you! 🙌
You nailed it brother. You're an incredible player btw
Thank you!
beautiful job
Nailed the sound brother!!
this cymbal sounds great, congrats!
Brian would be pleased!
Cymbal sounds mighty good.
The cymbal sounds very pleasing, it does remind me of a very thin crash/ride I have, those sticks seem to do some magic like you said. I can see that cymbal used also for rock gigs when you want to blend more than cut, and smooth sound is important.
Yeah I think so too! Thanks for watching
Man that sounds outstanding! Great job! I literally just bought a cymbal two days ago or I’d be ordering one right now. Dang now I have to save up for another cymbal haha
Haha it’s the curse/blessing of being a drummer!
sounds really really good.
tim never misses when it comes to cymbals
Thank you!
I love that cymbal SO much! 🔥

Landmark Series sounds amazing! Please describe the drums use in this video. They sound great!

Thanks! I'm a big Blade fan so I've listened to about all I can of his drumming. It's one of my favorite cymbal sounds. Also, Funch is a great smith!
Oooooweee! That is lovely!
Always love your videos, Tim! Looking forward to getting my mods back. -Carson
Thanks Carson!
Vrry nice.
sounding good!
Obviously the cymbal sounds great. But your playing is really nice man
Thank you!

Please reach out and we can chat about it! My email is tim@reveriedrums.com.
The drums are my brand as well, Reverie Drum Co.
Amazing craftsmanship. What type/size rivets did you use for the left side Spizz?
Thank you! I use solid brass split rivets (9/16x7/16 long). They sound great.
I'll definitely be doing a patina video at some point! That's a big topic!
@@ReverieDrumCo Sounds good, brother.
bolero SD2 great stick
Dead on.
I want one
I can make another one! This was a customer’s commissioned piece.
Do you have any plan to make a series of Tony Williams style cymbal line?
I do! They would fall under my labyrinth series cymbals. Those contain my Bill Stewart and Tony Williams-esc cymbals
Wow! What's the price range for this kind of work of yours?
My 22" commissions are $700. In my batch drops the 22s are $650.
Ia it possible to buy a copy of that cymbal?
