    i honestly wasn't expecting such a drastic change for some reason. what was most impressive is that you stated your intention and then proceeded to make it happen. it goes a long way toward inspiring trust (assuming you didn't use the marvel of video editing to record the intention afterward - but i don't believe you did that).
    as far as sounds, i don't really care, because everyone wants to hear something different. again, the important thing to me is that you can choose a direction and then take the bronze in that direction with skill and purpose. nicely done!

      Thanks! Yeah there’s always a bit of a risk in recording a “this is the goal of the mod” before the mod is done, but I like the danger aspect… haha

    The final mod was the best, the bell became sweet, more mellow, the wash was controlled not chaotic, and the stick attack was still on top of the wash. Overall this cymbal became more complex, brought out it's deep character, but it doesn't run away from you when you dig in and play some ride patterns. 100% better cymbal in sound and playability.

    Ya know, I like all of the versions for their own strengths, however, I kinda like the unmodified for this particular cymbal. Maybe in the room, it sounds like it's too much, but what I'm hearing through the mics sounds like the winner - even the bell! Although, the last one definitely has a more unique sound to it. After you did the majority of the lathing (in between stage) the cymbal had a real nice subtle wobble to it that I enjoyed. But I've played on a handful of these and you're right, the bell is always way too harsh, so I'm sure the last one sounds really nice in person.

    I loved the original version for the stick definition, but that's just my preference for the type of music I like. The "crash" sound was very muted. The second version has an interesting tone, a little deeper than I like but the crash tone was MUCH improved. The third version was just too thin top to bottom for my taste.

    • @ReverieDrumCo
      @ReverieDrumCo  Рік тому +1

      Thanks! It's a fully custom build that a local engineer helped me design create. It's a 2 HP AC motor that has a custom drive that allows it to operate with variable speeds. It also has a foot pedal operator and an "energy dump" device that allows the lathe to stop on a dime for safety purposes. I don't know a tremendous amount about how it works to be honest. My first lathe used a 1.5 HP motor and pulley system so it operated at a set 285rpm. The backing is a custom cnc cut MDF board.

    In general does hammering brighten or darken a cymbal tone?

    • @ReverieDrumCo
      @ReverieDrumCo  Рік тому

      Hammering is primarily about shaping the cymbal, which can be shaped towards a dark or bright vibe. With the addition of lathing, you work the "topography" which can have a huge effect on the tonality. Darker cymbals tend to have more surface texture. Bright cymbals tend to have a smooth surface with shallow, even lathe grooves.

    The 2280 modified sounds way better, it’s not as washy so the cymbal pattern can be heard without being overwhelmed by wash. I prefer drier rides so I can hear the da da das much better. I like 20 inch rides, they’re easier for me to control , but I would use that 22 mod for an alternate ride if I wanted a little more spread in a particular part of a tune that would require a little more volume. Nice job on the mod cymbal .

    Грубоватый звук. Особенно для стиля "Swing". На такой тарелке можно играть только Hard-Rock или, какой-нибудь "Punk - alternative".
    Мне звук этой тарелки совсем не понравился.
