I had to the chance to meet Carpenter, Barker, Hooper, Cunningham, Savini, Corman, and so many more directors of my favorite horror films.....Wes was always at the top of my list. I never got a chance to meet him. When he passed that was a real bummer.
noice
Always enjoy appreciation for Wes Craven's New Nightmare. I've always loved how meta it is. And it's funny that the demon in the movie takes the form of icons of evil, cause I like to think this thing took the form of Darth Vader before lol.
Some of my favorite underrated Wes Craven movies are RED EYE and People Under the Stairs.
I rank both of them in my favorites of his. Absolutely love them.
I never liked the disrespect that Wes Craven always seems to get at times. About he doesn't belong in the same category as some of his peers. You have to be really a fan to appreciate his work. But if you're a casual of course you're going to think it sucks that's what i come to realize.
I haven't seen any disrespect toward Craven. Maybe some hardcore John Carpenter fans might say something because of nerd contests between Fandom but he's mostly respected by horror fans. If anything Tobe Hooper is a bad director who got lucky once or twice and because of that he got labeled a Master of Horror. Same thing for Mick Garris he's a nice guy but Master of Horror please lol.
@boomstickcritique902 you probably haven't but I most certainly have. If I didn't I wouldn't have brought it up. I've seen it a lot, where people saying that craven doesn't belong with in the same class with Carpenter,Romero and Cronenberg and even recently Sam Raimi. It's always mostly a nightmare on elm Street the first one and the original scream are his best movies and the rest are trash. It's always someone saying that.
@antoiner3820 Just sounds like silly fan boy arguments to me but in terms of those directors Craven is better and more consistent then Romero Sam Rami has made to few horror flicks for a real comparasion. Cronenberg in his heyday was better then both Craven and Carpenter later years Cronenberg mostly sucks now.
Wes Craven Shocker is a criminally underrated masterpiece and I still don't understand the hate it still gets, I know it's not scary but It is a fun badass movie with a killer rock soundtrack to hear and the casts are great too especially Mitch Pileggi as Horace Pinker was phenomenal in the movie, and I will say it one of the Wes Craven most underrated movie that still kickass to this day.
It's sooooo good
New Nightmare is my favorite one in the franchise
The Last House on The Left, The Hills Have Eyes, The Serpent And The Rainbow, The People Under The Stairs And Wes Craven's New Nightmare I Have All Five Of These Movies On DVD They're All Classics. P.S. Happy 30th Anniversary New Nightmare (1994-2024).
New Nightmare is a masterpiece film just not a Masterpiece Freddy film it works better as it's own meta horror flick then a Nightmare movie and that's why I like it. The franchise formula was tired at that point. Last House is a good exploitation film Hills have Eyes was great and one of his best People under the Stairs was also awesome. Red Eye was a good solid thriller Serpent and the Rainbow was also awesome Shocker is a dumb campy B movie but it's good fun 80s cheese. My Soul to Take is a bad movie the concepts had potential if the script was simplified and just focused on the lead kid absorbing the souls of the other kids while a cool serial killer was after them and all the kids represented different alternate personalities it would have worked. If they had just focused directly on these aspects only and not made ths flick weird for the sake of being weird it would have worked.
Shocker rules, saw the VHS cover all the time in rental stores but didn’t watch it til a few years ago. Great pick 👍
My Soul To Take was nowhere near as bad as people cried about. At the end of the day, Wes' "worst" films are still miles ahead of many other horrors out there
He would be 85 years old in 2024 it's nearly been 10 years since his death in 2015 i'm glad his legacy will not be forgotten in time he's one of the most influential horror directors of all time i'm glad everyone including me remember his films also great video on Wes Craven Joblo also Happy Belated 85th Birthday Wes Craven you be remembered for your films including A Nightmare On Elm Street also somebody should make a documentary on Wes Craven and his life as a horror director and the legacy he left behind with Elm Street and Scream somebody should make that documentary now.
My Soul to Take felt like a mix of Shocker and Scream, but without a true sinister edge to it.
The story needed to be condensed down. If they had removed the random weird scenes like the main character doing some weird stuff with a bird costume and other similar scenes it could have worked. What they should have done is focus directly on the kids all being picked off one by one by an unknown serial killer until the lead character discovers that they are all actually the souls of the split personalities of the killer when he was alive and the killers personality was one of them. If they had just focused on this mystery and made the lead character a regular outsider and not a weird acting kid like he had autism it would have worked. It wouldn't have been a big hit like Scream but it would have worked as a one off slasher flick they tried to hard to make the film mainstream to appeal to teens.
@@boomstickcritique902I love the bird aspect of the film. I just thought it would have extended and played a larger role in the film
I think New Nightmare has grown to be appreciated post scream and after Wes' passing. It's prob my 3 fave nightmare. I would've loved at least one more movie with that freddy look. I loved the more organic claw.
Even before then New Nightmare was nearly always considered top 3 of the series with 1 and 3. It didn't do well in theaters because it was ahead of it's time and audiences still wanted the Freddy show like Freddys Dead and Dream Master.
I remember begging my mother to re-rent Shocker yet again when I was a kid. 😂 For the most part I am a die-hard Craven fan, I just fell off because life happens as an adult.
I've never even heard of this movie.
I recommend the fan film "Dylan's New Nightmare".
Wes Craven New Nightmare is the best horror sequel ever doesn't get enough credit
Why was the intro to this video so fucking somber? Jeez lmao
Love the music in the background
Same ...Older siblings..love that era...
I just saw a clip of his TV movie Invitation to Hell earlier today. I'd found that movie disappointing as a kid (I wanted violence and gore), but loved 1978s Stranger in Our House with Linda Blair battling yet another supernatural entity before settling into being a roller disco queen.
12:30 that movie frustrates still entertaining
Shocker and New Nightmare are great!
Great video. I love Wes. Rest in peace.
A true legend.
3 D is a ploy or a scam for ANY movie, whether it's My Soul to Take or Schindler"s List.
The expectations of some fans are too high. Love The People Under the Stairs.
When critics say a movie is bad, I do go and see it. And not have I found some great ones.
Is this the Fabuloso guy or Febreeze? I foget which cleaning product this voice hawks
Shocker is classic Wes Craven unlike My Soul To Take.
I seen all the saw sequels in theater. I don’t remember ever hearing about my soul to take or else I would have supported Craven 😞
I love Nightmare so much
I enjoyed Shocker.
MUSIC OF THE HEART BABY
Seriously, Wes Craven directed Music of the Heart.
Although it’s not a great movie I can appreciate Swamp Thing. I know it’s not covered in this though.
I don’t think the name was right , “my soul to take “ could been less
I bet you if wes smoked more weed we wouldve got some fire movies
It’s f$&kn terrible that these awesome movies get later praise
I guess I’m one of the rare people who actually liked My Soul To Take😬🙃
The cutting of all that hair has just made me feel a little bit older also??
Okay, I have to ask. Why is your voice off?
My soul to take did suck though. I hate that it was his last movie
I quite like My Soul to Take for its quirkiness. Scream 4 was Wes' last movie though.
@ It was? Oh thank God. Not a scream 4 wasn’t a masterpiece but it was decent. I’ll try to watch my soul to take again someday.
Lol… no thanks for the test screening exposé…
The only thing Shocker has going for it is being an 80’s Wes Craven movie. It sucks and always has. Mostly bc it was made for the wrong reason; to create a new Freddy (and to make a franchise, which is antithetical to Wes’s feelings about NOES)
My ranking
1. Freddy's Revenge
2. Freddy's Dead
3. 2010 remake because the director had the balls to go where no one else would
4. Dream Master
5. New Nightmare
6. Freddy vs Jason
7. Dream Warriors
8. Dream Child
9. The original because it's so slow and boring
so you have the best at #9. get better taste
@@gorequillnachovidal Sorry but the original is so boring. I fell asleep the first time i watched it. Plus it's got a guy who lets women crap on his bed.....I said what I said.
I mean I appreciate different opinions, but this is a wild listing. I personally love Revenge and definitely rank it higher in the franchise, BUT, Freddy's Dead and the remake ranking higher than the original and 3? Now that's a take.
Freddy vs Jason is 1000 times better than dream child and Freddy’s dead.
