Late 1990’s I parted out a 1986 Ford E250 van. It had an add on roof vent fan just ahead of the rear doors. I wanted the engine but I was lacking a hoist. I unbolted every body to frame bolt except the two behind the front bumper. I pushed the front of it up to the base of a big old tree and ran a strap around it as high as I could get it. The strap went down at an angle to a chain that went through the rear roof vent hole and out the back door opening and back to the chain. With another truck I attached a chain to the van frame and pulled ahead a few times before it came off basically hinging on the front body mounts. If only I had a video of it it would have hundreds of thousands of views by now.

I’m considering making a trailer if I can find a frame cheap enough. I’ve got some ideas turning in my head already. Great video! Thanks for making.
@@chud327 I will definitely share it on here. Thanks for making the bud! Hate I don’t have an obs anymore to pull it with, but will probably paint it the same color as my 2015 Silverado
Thanks for the video and showing the simplicity of the build. Was looking at off road base camp trailers, but the price turned me off from that idea. This is a much better idea, while being much more financially responsible.
I was last considering a little base camp trailer , but at 10 grand for a cheap one this was my next idea. I found an 89 Ford with a bed that matches my 1990 Bronco. Put matching tires and lift on it, matching white top, look like my bronco has another half a bronco.
@@chud327 You're welcome. I was looking for a truck to do a similar conversion. But the prices everyone wanted for a non running truck were too much. I ended up converting a boat trailer. Can use it as a flat bed, utility trailer or back to a boat trailer. I also did it with all recycled material except for the nut & bolts. About $50.00. Check out my video on it when you get a chance. My latest video is my truck bed trailer #4 build. I have the lights working but not all. I was missing a tail light, when I fixed it then a brake light went out. I hope to fix that today. I can push it around the yard by hand, it depends on how big of a trailer you compare it too. It is a bunch lighter than my 16 foot car hauler. The diff seems to spin easy. thanks for watching.
You are very welcome and there are 3 other truck bed trailers builds on my channel. I hope you will check them out too. some have better audio too. Thanks for watching.
@@nunyabusiness9463 You are so right and thanks so much for spreading the news. I think I will go right now and hook something else behind trailer #2. Thanks again.
I'm just checking this out because I want a matching trailer to my truck, but I want an 8' bed with a topper for off-road use. Maybe a tent on top so I can carry my quad in the bed. Have you seen the price of off-road trailers!? These are constructed just as good as many of those for far less. My main concern is getting a long bed on one with a longer frame. Found a bed for $200-500, topper from $500-1,000 for full-door service topper. I got a picture of a Toyota that used the bed for the trailer and installed a flat bed on his truck.
I want one that matches my truck too. My current almost matches, but the truck is red and the trailer is black, but they are both square body S-10's. Keep searching and maybe you can find what you need. Thanks for watching!!
Can the frame be repurposed as a boat trailer? if you wanted to could you add a small lawn mower engine to the rear axle for power assistance? maybe remote control the power from the drivers seat? How much time did you put into this project?
They take about a week working on and off. Little engine would be cool in the mud. You could do a small boat trailer, but around here the salt water would eat it up. Thanks for watching!!
Nice obs btw and sounds good too, I have to have a quad door cab so I have a 03 with true dual pipes and muffler lol. Wish the obs trucks was quad cabs, I'd have a 94. Really love to have a 77 or 78 crew cab. Haha
I don't see a problem with them, but then again, I am no weld expert. I am popping in a couple of bolts for episode #2, just to be safe. Thanks for watching.
@@chud327 I was going to suggest popping in some bolts for safety purposes. Nice work though, I was thinking that frame has enough space left over for a big toolbox to be mounted on it as an addition, that's what I would do.
I agree, those welds don't seem very safe, at all! At least weld ALL around them, not just a little on the top, it will bend and break after awhile. And yes I'd stick a bolt in on each side too for safety. But that's just me.
That is very cool, I hope you will check out my other video on truck bed trailer builds, I have a total of 4 built... thanks for watching and good luck on your build.
I thought it was pretty cool, but I had to take it off to make the pool. The pool video will be out in less than and hour, I hope you will stop in and chit chat. Thanks for watching.
That would be very cool. Tahoe pulling a truck bed, best of both worlds. I have another coming out Monday, I hope you will check it out. thanks for watching.
Did you think about leaving the full frame in tact and welding the front triangle and hitch mount to the front of the full frame? Is this possible/ have any draw backs? I am thinking about this for a slightly different application where i would build a little mini camper pod on the front and put a sled deck on the truck bed to have a snowmobile friendly travel trailer - basically an open air toy hauler.
Should add a reverse light hookup on your truck so you can have them on the trailer. Just have a single wire female/male spade connector. If you set it up in such a way too you could also hook those lights to a battery and have work lights in back of the trailer.
I love it and will try to get to it soon. I already have an episode two with many great improvements, I will see if I can squeeze it in or it may be in episode #3. thanks so much for the suggestion and for watching.
I've been wanting to do this, but I want to leave more trailer tongue and put something flat big enough to hold a four wheeler or two, and make the gas tank on the truck bed usable to fill up the four wheelers and stuff. Would like to see you build one of those in the future! Still good build, I got an idea of what I need to do now if i go down this same path! thanks
Your idea needs a 4 door truck frame or you could add some steel. That is a good idea of a four wheeler area and the gas tank would be great. You could hook up a wire, flip a switch, and have a gas station. Maybe a long frame truck will show up and I will try to build your idea some day. Thanks for watching.

As the owner of a '88 Chevy stepside I'm pissed that you made a trailer out of it. However I understand that there is only so much you can do with a truck with no title that won't sell.
I know how you feel, but I felt my hands were tied. No one came to even look at it, There was no engine, no trans, a quarter million miles on it, and it had been T-boned. At least the bed will live on. Thanks for watching.
Nice. O had one when I was 23 o miss it. I added shell on top and big tool box sealed up and it was my fishing truck bed. Fish camp do what ever. I want one now but Louisiana can't build them anymore. Of I find one done and tagged I can have. But people won't get rid of theres lol. But I took a pop-up camper down to frame added floor not perfect just needed floor lol. But added big tool box I did have 2 side tool boxes the 7ft ones are 6 and half can't remember but there huge I think 7 or more. But I had van seat in the back so I could get up and sit. But on the bumper I added sink hey we all need sink when out fishing after cleaning just no faucet. Lol. But I got tired of climbing in the back so I took one tool box off and should have took the other side ide had stairs. But wanted the drivers side open. But moved the seat half way then my wheel chair and seats and grill stand goes behind the seat so don't fall off just strap down the wheel chair the rest stays. But now pull up to the river can get my drink phone put on the tool box the big one. Get up on the seat my rods are on the rod stand and the butts on the trailer can sit but being my disibilty. I got to lay on my side. So add pillow goes on the edge of the tool box blanket it towel under it. But lay down when I get bite sit up catch catfish. Which for me the truck bed be harder to get in due to my knees. But o could have added van seat or made a bed acrross the bed and backed up to the water got on the back and layed down. But I do like my set up. I do have it in some of my videos but really I need to make a walk around talking about it. Just in case someone wants to see what I did. But I do miss mine like yours full size with the camper shell I was in great shape went all over fishing and camping. Wow I may said to much sorry. But great video and god bless
I bought an old f150 that was converted already but I had to buy new taillights. Did you run all new wiring for the lights and do you just use the one wire for the turn signal for each side? I noticed you just used a four wire setup which is what I'll use.
I used the factory wiring and the four wire hook up. Find which factory wire goes to which light, hook it up, and when you find all four you are done. Chevy was easy, Dodge was a pain, Ford I have never done. thanks for watching.
@@chud327 i have a truck bed trailer. it seems to be pretty heavy compared to a simple light made trailer and the way the rear diff is still there. seems like more of a chore to pull and pretty heavy. im sure pretty obvious. just something i started to realize towing up hill seemed heavy. i could be wrong
made several of these from old chevys. nicely done. my only suggestion is to secure the hitch to the frame a little more as in time the welds can break. i always weld and bolt them together, either from the top or side. side would be best if possible 2 on each side.
on a side note for the brakes. once out of boredome i hooked the brakes of a 90 chevy truck bed into my 93 z71. used a flexible front brake line on the trailer side and bunch of brake line size valves and connector fittings so air wouldnt go back into the lines of the truck. kind of a pain because you have to bleed the back valve whenever you hook and unhook. thats why i had 2 valves on each side to keep the air in the lines in a controlled space. basicly run a splice from rear frame to to a line that runs to bumper, valve 2 inch line, valve, air chuck, disconnect, flexible brake line, valve, 2 inch brake line, valve, tie into existing trailer brake hard line. totally not needed but was fun to hook them up. also you can put a 7 pin hitch plug on the truck and trailer. they have a pin for back up lights in them. once again overkill but that would be doing it correctly as most newer trucks and SUVs today have the round 7 pin plug. again good job and attention to detail.
your s10 with the v8 may have been set up for the 86 iroc rims. rear ends are wider on the iroc and have a different offset for the disc brake. always ran the factory 16s on all my v8 conversions.
No joke I've been wanting to do this for like a year but haven't done it. Now I need to find a stepside Chevy bed😂😂 awesome video. Subscribing right now. I'll be watching your videos from now on😂😂
Nice job, If it were me, I would 1. Reinforce or box in the frame for more strength. 2. Make it a dump bed just because I can. 3. Get a regular trailer axle and get rid of the truck differential to save on weight.
Thanks and thanks for watching. I don't know yet what all I will do with it, but thanks for the ideas. So far, I have had the mower in it and also made a pool for the kids...
With that big space between the bed and the hitch you can put a truck box on their for tools or what ever. Weld it on or just drill holes and bolt it on.

This was a really cool video thank you for sharing, I did this a few years ago with a Toyota pickup and it turned out very similar except I put a small flatbed on the front where I can load an ATV.
Shortbeds aren't the best for turning into trailers. With the axle centered under the load, they like to sway a lot if you don't get them loaded properly (not enough tongue weight). Just keep that in mind...
I will be keeping that in mind and I have found a long wheel base for the next one. If the guy will come down a little bit more, I want to get it. Thanks for watching and for the tips.
So i have one of these, mine is an S10 pickup trailer (and it was the same color teal when i bought it) im curious what you did about the diff in the trailer... ive heard if you pull the pin from the guts it will become free wheeling and have a lot less drag, which is easier on the tow vehicle and the moving components in the trailer... dud you do any of this to your stepside trailer
I don't know that the pinion turning will make that much drag and I hope to hook that turning up to something someday, I just don't know what yet. Thanks for watching, do you have any videos of yours on here?

Thanks so much and I wish more people would see it like you. Thanks for watching and there should be an update coming out soon.
Great video! Love the backyard engineering. Would love to hear about your welding setup. Keep the videos coming. Your channel is one of my favorites!
Thanks so much, I love your comment! Especially about the favorite part. I have an old stick welder, I don't even know the name of it. The leads are old and almost bare where the insulation is falling off. I really need to get new ones. Other than that, that is about all I know. I can get the name of the machine if you like, maybe even feature it in a future video. I am still learning the art of welding and find it lots of fun. Thanks so much for watching.
chud327 would like to see a welding video but PLEASE get NEW rod holder and cables for safety's' sake. don't want to see you getting hurt or killed just to make a vid. get ya some 7018 rods. they're easier to weld with, the slag cleans very easy, make stronger welds, and good looking finish. start burning... lol

My Dad had his '49 Studebaker pickup turned in to a farm wagon. That was when they were still making Studebakers. It didn't look that good; it was just for hauling corn on the farm. There was a farmer down the road who had a welding shop.
Yeah, I have been using my cell phone for the recent videos, I am surprised on how bad the audio is on such a newish iPhone... A 49 anything would make a cool trailer, if the front was unrepairable... Thanks for watching.
nice, I know someone that made one of these out of a 60s chevy back in the 90s. Thinking of doing it with an old 88 ranger I got, great vid 👍
I love them and have build a total of 4. Right now I have a square body S-10 truck and a Square body S-10 truck bed trailer... Thanks for watching and let me know how yours turns out.
Nice work! My dad picked up a Ford Ranger trailer somebody made in pretty much the same way. We've gotten a ton of use out of that thing.
Yes, that is a great story and thanks so much for watching.
I gotta say that was a bad ass idea. U just gave me some good ones too with a few old trucks around here. Cool vid
Get started man! Thanks so much and thanks for watching.
I had a k2500 I was restoring and had a bunch of spare parts for it including a good 8’ bed, and a 2004 1 ton van Dana super 70 axle with springs and wheels. I’m considering making a trailer if I can find a frame cheap enough. I’ve got some ideas turning in my head already.
Great video! Thanks for making.
That sounds very cool. I hope can one day have a truck and truck bed trailer that match. Share yours if you build one and thanks for watching.
@@chud327 I will definitely share it on here. Thanks for making the bud! Hate I don’t have an obs anymore to pull it with, but will probably paint it the same color as my 2015 Silverado
@@jamesyork6023 nice and thanks
super cool trailer, might have to make myself one too !
I highly recommend it, I am well pleased with how mine turned out. Thanks so much for watching.
Nice job recycle, reclaim & re purpose. Stay well, Joe Z
I agree 100% and thanks so much for watching.
Joe Z
Great video! I’m currently doing the same but can’t get the trailer lights to work
My latest video is my truck bed trailer #4 build. I have the lights working but not all. I was missing a tail light, when I fixed it then a brake light went out. I hope to fix that today. Good luck on your and thanks for watching. Do you have any pics or videos of yours? There is also a truck box trailer group on facebook you might be interested in.
Very interesting. I wonder how much it's heavier than regular trailer. Also, how much drag is there with differential still in place.
I can push it around the yard by hand, it depends on how big of a trailer you compare it too. It is a bunch lighter than my 16 foot car hauler. The diff seems to spin easy. thanks for watching.
I have built a trailer from an early 90s Chevy, I would recommend boxing the frame as it will be weak. Looks nice.
I couldn't believe how easy it was to bent the frame in to weld... Thanks so much for watching.
Great job..was looking for this info for a while so thanks.
You are very welcome and there are 3 other truck bed trailers builds on my channel. I hope you will check them out too. some have better audio too. Thanks for watching.
Looks Great! Super cool!

Make another one and connect it to the back to make a train
That would be so cool, I would love to try that. I will see if I can find a super deal on another truck and make it happen. Thanks for watching.

@@nunyabusiness9463 You are so right and thanks so much for spreading the news. I think I will go right now and hook something else behind trailer #2. Thanks again.
Great vid I'm build one on my way to the junkyard right now thanks for the inspiration 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾😂
Good luck. Thanks so much and thanks for watching.
Haha
Those would be cool if they had made them. the 77's are getting too expensive, thanks for watching.
awesome man and you can put a camper shell on the bed to be enclosed !!!
The stepside toppers are a little hard to find, but I was thinking that on day one. I may have to build and enclosure for it.. Thanks for watching.
Nice trailer, but your welds don't look too good or safe especially on the tongue.
I don't see a problem with them, but then again, I am no weld expert. I am popping in a couple of bolts for episode #2, just to be safe. Thanks for watching.
@@chud327 I was going to suggest popping in some bolts for safety purposes. Nice work though, I was thinking that frame has enough space left over for a big toolbox to be mounted on it as an addition, that's what I would do.
built several trailers always popped in a couple of bolts where possible. my welds always held but safety is always a priority.
Looking to build one just like that out of a 1993 2500 long bed. Do you know the approximate weight of your trailer?
I agree, those welds don't seem very safe, at all! At least weld ALL around them, not just a little on the top, it will bend and break after awhile. And yes I'd stick a bolt in on each side too for safety. But that's just me.
That was a nice truck
Yes it was but atleast he kept the stepside bed!
It was fixable, but no one wanted to buy it and I didn't need it. I can use a trailer and am glad I was able to save the bed. Thanks for watching.
Good point and thanks for watching.

I am not sure but would love to o see what you come up with. Thanks for watching!!

Very good job . It started me thinking , I want one.
me too, I am working on #2 as we speak. It should be even better than #1.Video coming soon.

IKR, I am loving it. Thanks so much and thanks for watching.
I know stepsides are hard to find, I would have taken in a heart beat. Long beds are way easier to get in my area.
Is there a point to the long tongue? Does it make it easier to back up?
Yeah, longer tongue makes more tongue weight for less chance of fishtailing. It is also easier to back up a longer trailer. thanks for watching.
Maybe I could tag mine and then sell it to you, would that work? I am kinda far away in Florida too. thanks for watching.

I'd love one of these in eight foot without the step side. Perfect for camping, hunting, etc. I could cross several creeks with that.
Yes, I have been looking for a long bed for my next one... thanks for watching.
Much respect!!! If you had a long bed it would have been better. Oh, I like the way your truck sounds.
Can't seem to find a long bed... Thanks so much and thanks for watching.
made several of these from old chevys. nicely done. my only suggestion is to secure the hitch to the frame a little more as in time the welds can break. i always weld and bolt them together, either from the top or side. side would be best if possible 2 on each side.
on a side note for the brakes. once out of boredome i hooked the brakes of a 90 chevy truck bed into my 93 z71. used a flexible front brake line on the trailer side and bunch of brake line size valves and connector fittings so air wouldnt go back into the lines of the truck. kind of a pain because you have to bleed the back valve whenever you hook and unhook. thats why i had 2 valves on each side to keep the air in the lines in a controlled space. basicly run a splice from rear frame to to a line that runs to bumper, valve 2 inch line, valve, air chuck, disconnect, flexible brake line, valve, 2 inch brake line, valve, tie into existing trailer brake hard line. totally not needed but was fun to hook them up. also you can put a 7 pin hitch plug on the truck and trailer. they have a pin for back up lights in them. once again overkill but that would be doing it correctly as most newer trucks and SUVs today have the round 7 pin plug. again good job and attention to detail.
your s10 with the v8 may have been set up for the 86 iroc rims. rear ends are wider on the iroc and have a different offset for the disc brake. always ran the factory 16s on all my v8 conversions.
That would be cool to have brakes on the trailer, but I would want to bleed every time. Good that you had two valves...
I love the Camaro wheels on the S-10's. I have had three with Camaro wheels and if I do another, I will be looking for another set...
I might go out and throw in some bolts, just to be safe... Thanks for all the great comments.

Nice job, If it were me, I would
1. Reinforce or box in the frame for more strength.
2. Make it a dump bed just because I can.
3. Get a regular trailer axle and get rid of the truck differential to save on weight.

To some one who’s never welded, is doing these kind of welds hard? I’m pretty mechanically inclined I’ve just never welded. I have a junk truck I want to do this to.
It is not too hard to do, but you want to do it right. I would practice some first and watch some videos... You can always stick some bolts through to make it stronger. I have two more trucks that want to be made trailers, just got to do it. thanks for watching.
