Have you increased your caffeine intake? I've heard of talking a mile a minute but you were hitting about 16 kilometers a minute at a few points. Anywho felt like being a bit ornery and can't wait to see the upcoming addition to the original cabin vids.
I travel in what's known as a Cowboy Style camper, designed years ago in TX from guys n gals at rodeos who needed simple accommodations. You sir, have created a Fab rendition ❤! Very similar to mine ❤ LOVE IT!
Great little camper, good job. Only one thing. I'd put clothes storage up top because it's lighter and I'd put the heavier stuff below. Lesson learnt from a seasoned camper
Kevin, you never cease to amaze. Particularly how you managed to build this for next to NOTHING. Down here in the lower 48, we are less than 5% of the entire world’s population, yet annually we consume over 40% of the world’s resources. I’m note sure what the stats are for Canada, but I would think it would be harder to find such resources because Canadians are more environmentally conscious. But you really are an inspiration. Just driving to work this evening my spouse and I saw a number of homeless people living in tents under a bridge when our GPS instructed us to take a shortcut. But just think of how many of them can be helped to a better place with your knowledge and know how. Keep those wonderfully inspiring videos coming!! 😇
I have a lot of things i should be doing today, but i was like, "Hey, i need to watch Kevin build a truck camper, which i will never do myself." Then I'll probably have a nap, because watching you work so hard makes me tired. Sounds like a plan.
I bought a Coleman set for a sleeping bag. It has 3 parts for temps down to below zero up to a spring time bag/blanket that attaches inside. Super comfortable and when not using it for cold weather great padding for warmer weather. Worth the investment. BtW it's kinda big it for storage. Storage bag is aprx 3x3x3
As your comment on a sleeping bag you have to take one thing into consideration.... Survival! I've been all over the world and I've lived in Alaska and I've lived in Florida.. I now live in Michigan I got the best sleeping bag for the coldest temperature I possibly could but it also comes with a liner that's lightweight and a cold sleeve for inside.... just in case of an emergency.. you never know there could be some freak storm or freak accident when I'm driving down the road because I keep it in my car if I go off the road I got no heat I'll stay warm and survive.. The best thing about the liner is you can open it up and just use a liner as a cover on those really warm nights... plus mine comes with zippers about up to my knees with mesh inserts so you can open those up and have ventilation on your legs.. and of course the cold sleeve is for either the outside to keep it waterproof and during extreme cold or exposure to elements..or you can use it inside to keep you warm.. So my sleeping bag is good for minus 30 or 50 degrees below zero but if it's totally opened up and it's just the liner I slept in 90 degree weather...just saying
Your meticulous $0 truck camper build from start to finish, featuring the DJI Portable Power Station, showcases resourcefulness and creativity. Your project is a testament to determination and ingenuity. And I am Floating Village Life.
This will blow your mind bro look on your tape measure it has a measurement on there telling you the exact size of the tape measure so you sit it on the shelf and pull the tape up to the roof, you take the measurements then add on the length of the tape measure
I rolled over 400k miles on my 2002 chevy silverado. She's still going strong on all her original parts. Engine compression check is 👍. I tricked her out for weekend camping for me and my grandkids.
I think my favourite project of yours, maybe I'm impartial because I grew up with a Dodge Caravan (from about the same era as the one you used, maybe half a decade earlier) that we did long road trips in, and it felt very roomy but I really liked the '03 dodge caravan with wood stove project I'm sure for most people they'd probably prefer this build, as it has more modern convenience with the portable power station, all the cooking equipment and the interior and exterior (with the custom built giant wooden cable wheels siding) is probably considered more stylish hopefully this video gets good views, and good referrals
I almost didn't watch this but I'm looking for a small camper for a 2008Ram. So I thought, why not try to keep up with this guys talking. I really enjoyed your DIY project. So I subscribed. My 2 sons might enjoy it too. I'm an older grandma that likes to camp and fish with my big doggies. Thanks from Central Oklahoma
It needs an exterior canopy. You can cook outside on the tailgate with a mini gas grill. Extra water storage in the granny space with a hose that goes to the outside for showering. Set up the solar panels on the roof so you can get a continuous charge on the battery pack. Put some plastic totes under the bed for more storage. You are going to want some ventilation for the heat and a heater for the cold months.
You said you wired it for a 12V battery but didn't need it. Keep it as a back up or extra power if needed. Great build! Sure wish more folks would reuse what was on hand, cheaper and the landfills wouldn't be overflowing. Praying for safe. fun adventures. GOD bless
Love your idea with the camper on the back of the truck come in so useful for you and your family just to get away. Always enjoy your channel Kevin take care nice seeing your daughter Lena.
For your round post it's empty space I wonder if you could create an opening (top/side)or a different post that could hold vertical slender things Screwdrivers, utensils, etc You already had access to Every inch of space. Luggage rack or Storage on top An awning to go over the tailgate or on the side of the truck Fold out shelves on the side of the truck A bubble window on top Also, your fish eyed peephole on the homeless home was an awesome find It's awesome as always And not as Frankenstein as some of the things you create Still lots of fun and so cool with your repurposed products.
I have an old, about 100 years old, synthetic -30 mummy bag that works well. Usually go with sheets, then a couple/few light and mid weight blankets/quilts. Use the "lesser" bags when temps are moderate and when it gets really cold lay the -30 bag on top. And can crawl into the mummy bag when really cold. Works.
The blank wall could use a tree stencil or mountain range silhouette. Maybe a moose stencil or a buck? Just something to keep it from being a giant green box on top of a bright red truck. Other than that, maybe a small commode or an old bedpan for when it's freezing out and you need to do some business without having to put on all your gear first. Not sure you would need a small heater, just make some tea to warm up the place. Something like a magnetic screen to cover the door to keep bugs and critters out might be a boon so you don't get stifled in there, or a vent with a small computer fan so you can get fresh air. I hear that a small solar panel can run those fans, or even rechargeable battery packs. Hmm. Maybe I have more ideas than I thought.
I tend to be pretty warm blooded except at night! My blood pressure drops and I get really cold so I would personally get a warmer sleeping bag but you could also maybe throw some wool blankets in back there to layer if need be. There’s always a small Mr. Buddy or hand warmers as a backup.
I had a 4 pound holofill sleeping bag that I did a road trip to Crater Lake Oregon and had frost inside the Honda Civic... that 4 pound was toasty... better than freezing tushy off, at high altitudes in July.
So awesome! Liked and shared. You know what would make it next level? The truck itself. First off, I love the make and year of the truck. Not sure if it's AWD but it needs to be, differential locks, a modest lift kit and big all terrain tires. Also engine tune for some extra horsies, for better performance. You could really take it on some epic adventures!
I was gunna say Thursday that you could gently rub chalkline chalk on your tailgate. The. When it closes, the chalk will transfer and show you where its touching. And it washes right off...
Sleeping bag I'd recommend a cold weather Nemo Equipment one. I like the spoon shape of them for knee room and their thermogills are good if you're using it in not so cold conditions. Great for the size and weight too 👍🏻
Get 1 sleeping bag for cold season and get one sleeping bag for hot season, same thing for the pillows, put a mini fridge in that camper for access to immediate drinks and snacks in case you take daily medications
I was thinking, this is a perfect home for travelling construction worker. Get hired for a job, drive to the job-site, set down your mini-home, use your truck to haul stuff, jobs over, load your mini-home back on the truck, and drive to the next job-site.
Kevin, as usual, you have come up with another amazing build!!! I love it! I even like the green color...lolol... the only 2 things I would add, would be, either a functioning window so, you can open the door, and get some air flow when its hot, and perhaps make the window to the cab a sliding window, to function as a pass through... Kudos!!! 😄🥰😄

Nice camper Kev. My buddy built a camper for his truck in the late 90s early 00s . We slept in that thing at the kitchener Octoberfest haha and he also took it to BC one year. I think its still around. Pretty much just a sleeping quarters tho
nice and simple build... you need a powered vent on top-front for when needed, and solar panels on your roof... keep them a few centimeters over the roof [use spacers] to keep you in a shade, build them sturdy so they can hold some snow, plexiglass on top! And something else... do you know these ''heated jackets'' and vests?... They use some ''heating pads'' like miniature electric blankets... but you can get them from eBay very cheap, just a set of pads with the wiring and switch, use safety pins to hold them in a sleeping bag, and a power bank to run them... easy solution for cold nights... you can also add them to a jacket if you want...
Hooks and tarps, where hooks could double for hanging folding solar panels... movable from side to side or off the back. Tarps might require posts for outer edges...tarp and hanging solar panels on top or as shade walls... I have hung Nomad 100 solar panels and daisy chained them together for faster charging.
I have used tarps and wood poles around a Honda Civic in a hot campground to extend my shade on all side of the Honda, the poles were 1x1 sized and would fit in a roof top carrier, turning the car into a core of a shade tent.
Tailgate problem? SMACK IT HARDER!!!! I’m working on a project like this that will eventually be uploaded on my channel. My problem is I have a six foot bed in my GMC and that is way too short of a bed to sleep in. Still working that out. Great video!
I have and 8 foot bed and still built two bunks on beams and waterpipe duck cloth sewn to hang from the waterpipe set in notched beams. Each water pipe can be lifted up out of the notches to fold the bunks to about 3" wide on each side wall... if an extended long bed build can be put on a short bed truck..... waterpipe and duck cloth bunks could fit higher up, storage lower under bunks.... my bunks were at canopy window height... lawn chair cushions made good mattresses... had a guest in the second bunk on other side for long road trip, she found that bunk very comfortable.
@@nagjrcjasonbower you familiar with the over cab spaces in campers on short bed trucks... beams across to support...and water pipes, with duck cloth might be run the long direction taking advantage of over cab space for bunk head space... functional bedding storage space when not sleeping in the same head space... regular small RVs have over driver bunks in the same head space... bunks that high implies ladders to get in the bunk(s)... bound to be several ways to do it... I found the notched beams and water pipes with threaded end caps useful
Actually some very nice good quality too ... I like the switch by the door ... I'd not seen one before. You can add a slide out area from the sink or flip up for extended surface area.. I have a nice shower fan used for flow rather than the 14" x 14" ... but it doesn't move much and I put on my own variable speed dial to turn it on ...

Another awesome video 🙏🏼✝️🫶🏼
I love that wire-spool wall. That is the absolute coolest thing!! :)
Buy a wiggys sleeping bag. Made in USA and great zippers and comfy inside.
Awesome build sir.
I like that you repurposed almost everything.
Tailgate problem? SMACK IT HARDER!!!! I’m working on a project like this that will eventually be uploaded on my channel. My problem is I have a six foot bed in my GMC and that is way too short of a bed to sleep in. Still working that out. Great video!
Diagonal...
@@ModernSelfReliance That could work… Thanks!
@@lethaleefox6017 Nice!!
Nice job
Actually some very nice good quality too ... I like the switch by the door ... I'd not seen one before. You can add a slide out area from the sink or flip up for extended surface area.. I have a nice shower fan used for flow rather than the 14" x 14" ... but it doesn't move much and I put on my own variable speed dial to turn it on ...
I too talk to myself a lot. Especially while working.
