A good rule of thumb for UA-cam is that everything is staged until proven real. I mean, who would make a video instead of looking at a walkthrough, if genuinely stuck?

I have nothing against the OP but modern games got their audience to this point. Markers, arrows, detailed quest logs, so-called puzzles with hints that NPCs constantly telling you what to do etc. My young cousins had a hard time with Half Life.
Some old games were very difficult in comparison to most modern ones and there wasn't any kind of online guide so you had to try everything you could possibly think of, just imagine playing a king field (souls precursor) blind run and getting stuck, soft locked, lost and raging, loosing hope lol
Been there brother, same thing happened to me so I stopped playing after that point because nothing worked. Edit: THATS WHERE THE FUCKING KEY IS! I am going to finish the game now that I know where it is.
If you feel stupid: I once was fighting the tutorial boss with the broken sword, and trying like five times, not having seen the door opened behind, shouting "IS THAT DARK SOULS? Maybe THAT'S NORMAL, it's SUPPOSED TO BE HARD? Am I doing something WRONG?". It was the first ever time playing Souls, I was confused with 3rd person camera view, didn't have perception of that door behind and was insisting, thinking it's normal, because I heard Dark Souls is supposed to be hard.
Oh my god, finally someone who was as stupid as me on their first playthrough. I made him break every single pillar, thinking it's probably a gimmick boss, but I still completely missed the door. Ended up breaking my sword hilt and thus killing the boss dealing 1 point of damage at a time...
I think this is a huge unfortunate consequence of the 'dark souls is hard!!!!' narrative. My friend had the same experience of bashing his head against the asylum demon with just the broken straight sword hilt because he thought it was just supposed to be that hard. In contrast I told my 13 year old sister absolutely nothing about the game, and when she tried swinging at him once and saw how much damage she did, she immediately started looking for a way out and found the door. There’s so much of the design of DS1 that was ruined by the 'hard' narrative, like the skeletons in firelink. If all you know is that the game is hard you might end up hopelessly throwing yourself against them when really the game is trying to tell you to turn around and go the other way.
This is totally relatable. It was just one moment of many that had initially stumped me in the game. Its partly why it holds a special place in my heart, in spite of all the rage quitting.
In my 2000 hours on dark souls 1 alone, in all my experience teaching my idiot friends to “git gud”, coming from me, this is something I’ve never seen…
This was a bug in the original, too - the npc drops the item, but his death actually causes a "key item" drop to spawn and very rarely it either doesn't show up visually or it is slightly disjointed from the body and completely covered.
I remember getting stuck as a kid for a while in DS1. I was in anor londo, didn't know I had to drop off the side of the bridge segment onto the rooftop of the nearby building to progress. I remember just going "wow" when I fell off the edge by accident and survived, only to "unlock" the way forward. Thank you for posting this bro, meme or no it brought me back to my childhood lol
This is like when for the life of you, you cannot find something you're looking for and you ask your mother/father/roommate and it's just right there obviously on the desk and you're like "I swear that just spawned in".
I know the exact feeling this man has when he opened that door 😂 I get stuck like this all the time and I be so close to quitting the game but I tell my self “maybe I’m being slow there’s no way”
To be fair, I thought the exact same thing back in the day when I played. Took 10 minutes to realized I could hit that snake guy through the bars and then he drops the key.

I seemingly got stuck here not because of the key, but because the only upgraded weapon I was using broke and I couldn't do any damage to the snake that has it. Luckily I picked up the dragon tooth and it miraculously scaled with my stats and saved me, then I used it for the rest of the run.
