Ever since I found you, it is so difficult for me to watch other peoples channel, you just teach too well and you are good looking at the same time, May God bless you in anything you do cause you are a blessing to the world❤❤❤
Wow this was right when I needed it. I've been watching your vids all day and I've learned more today then I have all last year. You have a way of breaking it down, and explaining it in a very informative and understandable way. Thank you!
Thank you for clear explanations. This is the third video of yours that I've seen. I'm using my dry erase board for practice. You make learning theory much less intimidating for me. It's actually interesting! You are an awesome teacher!
Gracie, I have been researching on circle of 5'th and that's how landed at this video and let me tell you, it is one of the best lessons on major and minor scales using circle of 5'th, one reason probably is your natural smile and more teaching less drama strategy, every moment of this 33.29 minutes is worth listening. I think, I will keep watching your videos, thanks for doing what you do!!
Hi, Gracie. Very helpful session. I LOVE your “munk” voice, lol! You are gifted with being very pleasant, funny, patient, and never boring. Grateful for your hard work, inspiring me to work harder.
OMG!! I have searched high and low to find the easiest way to understand this damn circle of fifths! And you were the only one who explained it brilliantly! I couldn't recommend your UA-cam videos enough! I am sitting my Grade 5 theory test soon and this is heaven-sent! Thanks so much! Viewing all the way from England!
Gracie my girl, you are so good at teaching! Mercy angel! It makes perfect sense. I think I heard the baby in the background. Makes this old man smile big.
I have see most of you video I started to watch all ur videos just by watch randomly one of your videos I understood that your level is so higher for me to learn faster and easier ❤❤ Thank you my friend
Thank you! I have a music theory playlist (under the "playlist" section on my channel) if you want to watch the videos in an order that makes sense and builds on itself.
Gracie...what a video, beautiful explanation of the famous circle of fifth, now I know how they where those notes come from. Thank you for sharing you just won another student.
I love that quick way to draw the minor part of the circle💖 I've never been able to memorize it just off the top of my head... It always takes a lot of brain burning thinking and lots of suspicion I'm doing it wrong.
Happy Valentine's Day My Dear Gracie ! May God keep Bestowing His Blessings on you so that you can have good health and all round prosperity throughout the year ! With lots of lots of love 💕💕💕💕💕 and regards , Jayantàda , 14/2/2023
Been playing for years. Hobby. Not Profesional. Your method of teaching is very refreshing and sinks into your brain easily because of your approach. Learning more than ever thanks to you. I am becoming a better bass, guitar, piano player because of you. I live out on the Island so it gives me a smile when I hear fire trucks. Lol I used to work in the city. Congratulations on the new addition, and keep up the good work. You're an awesome teacher.
Hello" Gracie.I like very much how you deliver music information.I taught my self as best I could.I joined the Isely Brother Group in 1960,but never studied the reading or theory.Never seem to have the time.I know have to order some of your learning aids JOHN Mitchell grey beard sax player-------------Thank You-------
I prefer the mnemonic that you mentioned because it follows a similar theme when it comes to the flats: Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle for sharps and for flats: Battle Ends And Down Goes Charles Father
Mnemonic suggestion: Remember that the order of sharps in the circle of 5th starts with F. That is all to remember. Then you can construct the order yourself. The next sharp is always the 5th degree of the scale A B C D E F G. Explanation: 1st sharp is F. Then counting 5 notes starting with F: F G A B C = 2nd sharp is C. Then start with C counting 5 notes: C D E F G = 3rd sharp is G. Then the next one starts with G and counting 5 notes or degrees: G A B C D = 4th note or sharp is D. Then starting with D we get similarly D E F G A = 5th note to be put as sharp is A. Then A B C D E = 6th note or sharp is E. And finally, the last one: Starting with E (the 6th sharp) we get: E F G A B = 7th sharp is B. That is how to construct the order of sharps easily in case you do not remember: FCGDAEB.
I love her, she is so pleasant to learn, listen and understand 💕, thank you 😊 Jesus for individuals that are able to teach well and make learning fun. This is a review for me, but I don't mind listening again, reinforcement is always beneficial.
I love your clear descriptions and explanations, Gracie. Especially appreciated you video on minors-has been confusing for me-and secondary dominant. If you’re looking for another topic: tritone substitution.
What a simple yet effective method and explained brilliantly truly an amazing and educational video. Im a self taught pianist, music producer and Emcee and found your video by far the best in explaining the circle.. Keep it up.
Sweet. Really love writing out the minor circle part. Your prior major scale video allowed me to figure this out before I saw this vid. I've been trying to drill flashcards (what are the notes in the Gbminor scale?) and I came up with something based on your order of sharps and flats. Bm and Em (the lower notes of the B-C and E-F pairs that are only separated by a half-step) are sharp minor keys as are any keys with a sharp in the name (F#m). Everything else is flat (Cm, Gm, etc [excepting, of course, A which most folks learn early on has no sharps or flats]). Then use the order of sharps or flats to find the accidentals. For sharps go to the next letter (B to C, F# to G, etc.) and that's the last accidental in the order of sharps. B minor means that you'll use C in the order (F,C) so the scale is B, C#, D, E, F#, G, A. Now you know which notes are sharps and how many sharps there are. G# minor means you'll use A in the order (F,C,G,D,A) so the scale is G#,A#,B,C#,D#,E,F#. Flats are similar. Go to the next letter and use the order of flats to note where non-flat notes start and use all the flats up to, but not including, that one. D minor means you'll use E to see that's where non-flats start (B,E [you won't make E flat]) so the scale is D,E,F,G,A,Bb,C. Bb minor means you'll use C in the order (B,E,A,D,G,C [you won't make C flat]) so the scale is Bb,C,Db,Eb,F,Gb,Ab. Now you know Bb minor has 5 flats and what they are. What if someone gives you something crazy like a Gb minor to figure out? Well, here the method breaks down and you have to draw out the circle of fifths to realize that Gb should actually be considered F# so you can figure out a real scale instead of a crazy scale (Gb,Ab,Bbb,Cb,Db,Ebb,Fb). Easier to deal with 3 sharps than 9 flats in a 7-letter scale. But, if someone asks you what the notes are in a real scale then you can use the order of sharps and flats and the next letter trick to figure it out.
Thanks for the lesson of minor scales and I appreciate you give a chance for us to figure out the equivalents. Also your game boy earings are very cool!
Idk if you read all these comments _ if you do I want you to hear that you are AMAZING! Your ability to teach what you have mastered is incredible. Thank you for sharing music and not making us pay for the knoedge. The fact that you just give your expertise to help others is beautiful. Grateful for you
Thank you. 😁 I really appreciate all of your videos. They are so helpful. I am, most definitely, becoming a patron. 🙂 Ken PS - You definitely have a gift communicating these concepts.
Ms Gracie I think simple way to remember order of sharp is next note after F is its fifth note C and G is fifth note of C and so on. And in order of flats every next note is its 4th note E is 4th of B and A is 4th note of E and so on. is it right? Thank you.
This is great review for a songwriter and musician like me. To remember I just sing the sharps like I do my Abc's and then do the same. Basicly make up a song that I like and can remember. Or just pick a tune and change the words to the circle of 5ths and the order of sharps and flats. By the way, what key do you get when you drop a piano down a mine shaft...............A flat miner.😊❤✌
Love your teaching style. Suggestion- i could benefit from homework assigned to me so to put your teaching to practice. For me I am working on sight reading and fingering on keyboard of simple treble and chords ie. ' All of me'
Hi Gracie, You have a gift to explain and huge knowledge, thank you for your time. Is there any shortcut to identifying any chords to which scale belongs taking into inconsideration the inversions? It might be a silly question to ask but I am a beginner and I don't yet master all the scales hence the chords and their inversions. If I take a new song and I can see the chords and it takes a bit of groundwork to figure them out, which is absolutely fine, I am not scared of putting the hours in. I was wondering if it is an easy way. Enjoy spring :)!
Gracie, I noticed that ALL letters listed in that order (FCGDAEB) each are MATCHED with their 5th Letter ) F. count 5 = C C. count 5 = G G. count 5 = D D. count 5 = C A. count 5 = E E. count 5 = B B. count 5 = F Sounds indeed like the Circle of 5th.!😅 I can relate music with math. The three at the bottom come from both sides, with flats running from 11 o’clock to 5 o’clock counterclockwise, and sharp keys running from 1 o’clock to 7 o’clock.
The reason why those 3 at the bottom are special is because they're the only key signatures for which the enharmonic equivalent doesn't have double-sharps or double-flats, right?

And finally, the last one: Starting with E (the 6th sharp) we get: E F G A B = 7th sharp is B. That is how to construct the order of sharps easily in case you do not remember: FCGDAEB.
I just use "Fred Can't Get Down And Eat Bacon"
Yeah we should know it this way because then it’s not random. There’s a reason the notes are in that order and we should know it
Can’t wait to see this one!
Great video, love the little keyboard for the visual.
Excellent information and presentation, as always. I like the way you draw a star at 5:01. I had to practice a couple of times to get the hang of it.

Hit the nail squarely! "Anything" being learned---"Sleep on it" No one says it better than Gracie.
I love your clear descriptions and explanations, Gracie. Especially appreciated you video on minors-has been confusing for me-and secondary dominant.
If you’re looking for another topic: tritone substitution.
Thank you very much!! Yes good suggestion - I will definitely venture into tritone substitutions eventually
Thanks for this knowledge. Your the best teacher who explains this circle of 5th very easy to understand❤
You are an excellent teacher!

Thanks again, very helpful
Its easy to remember order of #. You have to memorize first two: FC. The rest goes as in musical alphabet after F and C in pairs: GD, AE, B.
Hi Gracie, You have a gift to explain and huge knowledge, thank you for your time. Is there any shortcut to identifying any chords to which scale belongs taking into inconsideration the inversions? Gracie, I noticed that ALL letters listed in that order (FCGDAEB) each are MATCHED with their 5th Letter )
F. count 5 = C
C. count 5 = G
G. count 5 = D
D. count 5 = C
A. count 5 = E
E. count 5 = B
B. count 5 = F
Sounds indeed like the Circle of 5th.!😅
I can relate music with math. They are all interwoven indeed.
Also, I noticed that if you read each of them backwards, their distance is 4.
So, 5 forward (right),
4 backwards (left).
Nice twist. Love it.
