You're an amazing music teacher. You assume no prior knowledge, but you don't necessarily give a full first lesson every time something comes up. You do a wonderful job of balancing new information with necessary information. Thanks!
Thank you so much! I appreciate hearing this so much!
@@GracieTerzian Dear Gracie, I'm curious. Imagine 3 C's played @ once(2 are definitely an "octave). This is still a viable chord(I hope)?
@@robertakerman3570 its just octaves.
Finally! Someone who can teach music theory without making my head explode. Thank you Gracie.
😂
No doubt - Rick Beatto is a music wizard and a fountain of knowledge but I just can't follow him when he teaches - this girl is easy to follow and easy to look at - great channel 🔥

Wow - Gracie, you are a fantastic teacher!!!
@@robertcronin6603 agree. I’m gettin tired or listening to Rick. His ego is gettin as big as his subscriber count.
Like a goof I'm actually talking back to the screen like I'm attending my weekly guitar lesson with my instructor, but THIS video is a million times easier to understand LOL. Thanks again!!
That's so awesome -- I love it!!
Take note any and all theory instructors--: this young lady is premiere instructor. She is clear, detailed, very patient, poised in her tone and manners. Thank you, Grace for not making us feel respected and truly considered. You even ask US questions!!
You are the best teacher in explaining triads that I came across on UA-cam.
Gracie, I can't tell you how much I appreciate you making so much of this content available for free. When I can afford it, I will definitely join your Patreon. I've lost count of how many "aha" moments I've had watching your videos. You're a really excellent teacher. You make music theory accessible. Thank you!
I love your teaching style! It feels like we’re right there with you. I’ve been trying to learn music theory for years now, and your videos are making everything click!
Awesome! Thank you!
I love your lessons. So easy to follow. Plenty of re-enforcement.
That's great to hear! Thanks so much :)
Don't worry about making a video too long Gracie, I seriously enjoy every second of them !
You really do deserve way more subscribers Gracie. Best theory instruction on UA-cam.
With the price of everything today this is the best way to learn lessons rather than taking them and paying 25 bucks for half an hour. Here you can go over and over it tell it sinks in. Just think of the money one saves taking this route. No taking the guitar out to the car, driving 20 minutes unloading it, get in for the lesson, tune it then begin. Before you know it your half an hour is up. I also love the jump cuts here. Great time saver. What this good looking teacher shows us in just half an hour would take at least a month taking personal lessons. Great way to learn in your home and at your pace. I wonder if Keith Richards knows this? If he does, I wonder if he can still remember it?
I'm 64. Music theory has always been like a joke I remember but never quite understood the punch line. Now I can laugh out loud!! Thank you Gracie.
Got you beat! 70!! Better late than never:)
@@ljcaballero3428 Got you both beat, just turned 85. Remember, Grandma Moses never painted until she was 90!!!!!

Thank you! This could not be more clear. I appreciate you and your simplicity that help simpletons (music theory challenged!) like me.
REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR MUSIC THEORY LESSONS!!! Want to learn as much MUSIC THEORY as possible!!!
That’s great!!! Keep up the good work - learn as much as you can! It’s really actually quite fun. And thank you so much!
Best lesson I have watched on chord theory, totally get, brilliant teacher.
Thank you Grace
You have made this concept so simple and easy to understand. I also watched your Circle of Fifths video and it was the first time it all made sense to me. You're an excellent teacher. Thank you!!!
Thank you. Thank you. Your ability to teach is a rare gift.
Thank you Bob!! You’re very kind!
Very good. Good teachers can simplify and you made it very easy to understand.
Glad to hear that!
You break it down and make it really understandable. Great work, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for making these videos! The way you lay everything out is just fantastic. Love the laid back attitude paired with a true passion to share knowledge- the best kind of teacher, in my opinion!
I'm so impressed by Gracie's thorough understanding and how easily she breaks down the information. She's so so so good at this.
One of the only people I will listen to for 23 minutes.
Hahaha thank you!!
Gracie is knowledgeable on music theory . The genius of her is she can think how to get her point across as simply as posible without confusing her UA-cam followers. Im hooked on her teachings. Thank you .
Just found your channel Gracie. I'm a guitarist. I'm getting alot of clarity and consolidation with theory from your teaching videos that I've watched in the past 2 days. Much appreciated. Thank you so much. 🙏
^ This guy just took the exact words out of my mouth. Thanks Gracie.
I’m a guitarist too. I love my guitar teacher but for root theory explaining Gracie is so clear.
Me also. I have been playing for 30 years had no idea how this worked she is magic. BIG LOVE
Wow ... check out this thread we have going of us guitarists !!! We need to form a fan club
@@michaelsmusic3532 Guitarists in love with Gracie 🤣❤️
Recent events have finally given me the time to advance my lifelong guitar journey. But I’ve found if watch and rewatch certain videos, I’m finally hitting that, “A-Ha!” moment so necessary for advancement. Your videos have certainly taken me there more often than not, and I think if I had had a music teacher like you, who explains things so clearly, intelligently and patiently, I would have fallen in love with more than just music .. thank you !
I am in a similar mode... 5 decades playing the instrument...and taking on the theory that is now building my musical vocabulary and insight. Better late than never I guess. But its enriching my capabilities and inspiring me in a powerful way. There are these you tube gems that connect dots. Breakthrough moments.
You are a fantastic teacher!
Thank you! 😃
Just discovered this channel. You have a particular talent in making complicated subjects easy to understand. Thanks for doing this.
Once again, the 'MORE I ENJOY' learning, each time I view your lessons! I think I am becoming 'Intellectually Addictsd' to your instructions! Thank you very much, and now I am going to the next one!
Thankyou Gracie. Things are becoming so much clearer to me after watching your videos. You are a great teacher.
Thank you Gracie. I agree with the person below, finally I have found someone who patiently explains chords and intervals so very well. I have a 70 year old teacher that is not so patient! I would like to tell him about you … maybe I better wait until after I finished the class! Hahaha…Thank you so much!
More of your brilliance! I have learned more this afternoon than I have in five decades!
Not just learned, but linked together with your other lessons.
Fantastic teaching.
THANK YOU!!!
Wow, thank you!
this video is absolutely a great one. I appreciate the effort you put into creating such a valuable lesson for us. Thanks.. sooo much
You're very welcome! So happy to hear you liked it!!
These are by far the best music theory lessons I have found. You have a gift for teaching, and I hope you will continue.
Thank you so much Lyle! Such a kind thing to say
Gracie I'm a college sophomore musical theatre major who was struggling SO MUCH in my musicianship class but you have SAVED MY LIFE for my midterm I'm taking today!! I've recommended you to all of my classmates- you rock!!
This is the third video of yours I've watched in a row today. Didn't know you existed before, didn't ever get my head around intervals and triads before. I'm just a dilletante on guitar so I always thought I lacked the patience to learn theory. I was wrong. I just lacked a good teacher. The best analogy I have for your style is it's cartography for music... just makes the world more linear and easier to visualise. THANK YOU.
Excellent clear teaching. I can understand what a double flat and double sharp is and is dependent on the key you are in. Thank you😊
Glad it was helpful!
A year or so of listening to analysts pulling apart my favourite rock music riffs: "Hey, he played an F sus seven there...Wow!" Finally someone explains what a "sus" is!
By the way, no way am I a musician (I failed my piano lessons at age 12!) I simply enjoy listening to musicians talking in hieroglyphics, and, Gracie, you're the first I've found to explain the meaning behind some of the hieroglyphics. You also explained the Circle of Fifths so even I understood about half of your explanation!
Brownie Points to you X
I feel like I had blinders on my eyes for the past 45 years and you just removed them! Thank you.
Your teaching style is so lucid! I didn't specifically learn anything today, but I know that will change in your follow-up videos. Much better flavor than the basic theory I learned many years ago. Thanks again, Gracie!
Thank you so much Gracie, for this really clear and well-explained guide. I remember trying to get all this information in my head hunched over a guitar, juggling a notebook and pen, and not really taking much in at all. I'm looking forward to getting into this a little deeper now that the basics make sense. Thanks again.
So glad to hear that, Gary! Thank you for your nice comment :)
Your usual great job ,thank you, you make things so very understandable 😊
thank you so much!
Always a clear and logical explanation. Your presentations are the best!!
Wow. I'm a teacher (62 and retired) and I've just learned how to teach!
Thanks. The way you've explained this is so clear, and more importantly, interesting. I want to learn more now.
Music theory was as dry as dust and something I always turned my back on, how things can change in 24 minutes!
Years of childhood piano lessons with no theory whatsoever. I'm now an adult and learning so much more about music from your videos. Its like all the missing pieces are coming together to complete the bigger picture. Thank you!
So glad to hear that! :) makes very very happy. thanks for your kind comment
Exactly! AND...it's painless!!!
I'm teaching myself bass from scratch at 65 (youngest son left his beat-up, beginner instrument/amp behind after college). I've played organ/piano since I was a little kid...but chords were not part of my education. Pretty thin on theory, too, to be honest. Having found out playing chordal lines on bass is exponentially richer than sticking with scales, what you are teaching is exactly what I've been looking for, Gracie! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this I've been studying Theory my whole life and never heard about chord quality or understood what a suspended chord is
very glad to hear this! thanks so much :)
Me neither. Well the quality between 2 intervals I came across before.
I’ve literally learned more in a few videos in an afternoon from you.. than I have in years of hundreds of hours of other creators. Thank you so much from Newfoundland Canada.
The chemistry equation chords are starting to make sense! Those things look intimidating to a beginner you know. Thanks for making triads more understandable. Most YT teachers just gloss over them like they're common knowledge. Even Rick Beato blabs some jargon for about a minute before ripping into a sick solo session. 👍
This is fantastic. Somebody who knows the material backwards and is good at teaching it! subscribed. This is just what I need as I try and learn jazz guitar…thanks!!
You're awesome. Ten plus years and somebody finally explained diminished and augmented.
:) So glad!
Dear Gracie, You have taught me more in one week than my previous music teachers managed in fifty years - so many, many thanks! With love from Simon
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! You have done in less than 30 minutes what took me hours and hours of review (looking through my online teaching course) to NOT FIGURE OUT previously. Gracie, you are the best!!! Luv you like a sister, Greg.
No idea how but you give the clearest tutorials on theory on the platform. I’ve been noodling with theory from a number of sources but yours switches bright lights on!
Can’t wait for you to do more on modes especially. Great work.
Thank you Mike!! What a nice comment! It makes me so happy to hear. Yes I will do a video about modes soon.
I’m gonna watch this video a hundred times. I’ve shred guitar for half of my life with only half of this information. Incredible lesson young lady
Wow, thanks so much!:)
For the first time EVER (!) someone (that is you) has been able to explain to me the chord structure without assuming that I must already know the answer to the question. Mark Twain said that the two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you understand why. As far as chords are concerned, I now understand the how and the why. Thank you.
You are a wonderful music teacher. You make the lessons so clear.
Where were you when I was learning Piano at 6 years old? Now I have gone through years of guitar, now play bass in a band, and am learning piano again. You make everything so clear -- and you are nice to listen to also -- clear, friendly, and you take it slowly. Excellent lessons, Gracie!
Aww thank you so much :) you are so sweet!
you have a gift as a teacher. keep up the good work.
She is like the really cool HS music teacher. And a very good teacher at that.
I have been watching music theory for the last ten days and no one explains this subject with this clarity. Thank you.
Why didn't I find it sooner. Been playing guitar for more then a year now and this is first time it all clicked. I only saw your Circle of 5th video once yesterday and now I can easily form the scales just by memory. THANK YOU SO MUCH...
Everything in it’s time. 40 years of playing guitar by chords and ear. But never knew why this or that note worked together. Before you, I knew enough theory to get by and fake it or keep up with the band. You are the perfect teacher for where I am in my music journey to take me to the next level. Thanks! I’ll keep tuning in.
I’m enjoying these lessons. I’ve been taking lessons for 3 years and this helps me review the basics from a different perspective and I appreciate you!
I just discovered your channel and it is the best one for learning music, all other channels don't know how to explain or they do but they think we know all they talk about, but your channel for real is the best one I have found.
Wow, so now I know what is being diminished, or augmented! First time I’ve ever heard that!
Hehehe :) knowledge!
Amazing music lesson . You are the best teacher . Keep posting more please ❤️
Thank you for ur gift of teaching. We r blessed to have you. ❤
The best music teacher. Hope you continue your lecture for all.
Literally I'm understanding things for the first time with you explaining it... I had already "learnt" circle of fifths, and triads, and scales, but... I knew nothing until I saw your videos. I love the simple approach, the patience to teach something that you know perfectly well, but know we don't at all... So being explained this in such a step-by-step fashion, even repeating "obvious" ideas, has been SO HELPFUL for me. I'm a quick learner, but I need a good method, and yours is perfect for me. THX A LOT for your content.
She's so good at explaining it , honestly I can listen to her even in a couple of hours.
I've suddenly come across your videos. Very clear music theory descriptions. Excellent.
I love your teaching. You don't make music theory boring. On the contrary, you make it interesting. Thank you!!!
Aww what a nice thing to say. Thank you so much Attilio!!!
i had to listen to your theory twice, and draw circles based on my 4ths and fifth steen drum, and now realize what the sharps and flats mean in the circle of fifths, thanks again for your support
You are a great teacher and there are not many of them around. Thank you. Regards, Joan.
I'm doing a Gracie binge! I am learning so much!! Go Gracie!
Thank you Gracie, just started piano lessons, and watching your video makes it easy for me to catch up quickly
I love the way you use rare types of chord names or notations to teach little bits of information throughout another larger lesson. That is some musician quality planning, like economy picking as a teacher LOL
Hi Gracie your lessons are very easy on the eyes and ears. And with a little repetitive comprehension. Thanks Gracie. Nice to meet you.😃
You are the best teacher of anyone that I have ever seen on youtube. You are easy to understand. Thanks for all your videos. I just subscribed.
Hey Gracie!! I've been doing music for so long without learning theory. I'm so tired of playing by ear. I need more options. You are making me want to learn theory. I love the way you present it. U ROCK!!!! Thank you Gracie, because of you, I might just stick to this finally and actually learn theory. You're circle of 5ths was awesome!!
These teaching videos are very helpful.. I began learning guitar are 63, I have a good teacher but these videos on music theory in guitar are really helping me understand the circle of fifths and triad chords.
Hi Penny! I'm so glad to hear these videos are helping you :). Best of luck as you continue on your guitar / music journey :)
😂😂 I watch so much of her videos that I've reached the level where I hear Gracie's voice in head when I practice, reminds me of my school years, you know a teacher good when you hear his/her voice in your head when doing the homework😅Greatness 😘👌
Awww I love this so much! Thank you, thank you!
you can work out chords without knowing all the scales? mind BLOWN!!! Totally LOVE your lessons. Thank you
Your teaching technique is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Thank you so much Gracie!!!
Thank you, Gracie!! I thought your method was so easy to follow.
Gracie! I think your teaching is clear and easy to follow. Please do more of if you can. Many thanks.
Will do! Thank you so much :)
Great stuff! I began the piano when I was 4 and parents did not keep me with it. Now at 48 I am back at it because I never lost the love for playing the piano. With your channel and some others, I am determined to be the piano player that I never was. Thankyou for your help!
Same here ...
I'm a 54 year old guitarist learning ( trying lol ) the piano. What other channels have you found helpful ?
@@michaelsmusic3532 A couple channels I really like are Rick Beato and Pianote, good presenters like Gracie.
@@MichaelRoyal Thanks ! Yes I watch some of Ricks vids too but he's not as clear to understand as Gracie (or pretty lol) I'm not familiar with the other one so I'll have to check it out, thanks !
I'm in the same boat. I was a working bassist/guitarist from '74 to '80 and haven't done much musically since then. Now retired and trying to get my reading/playing chops back to where they once were. Have been watching Gracie's videos and she does a really good job explaining music theory. Keep up the great work Gracie !
The best!! really grateful for your content.
Finally, THE missing piece! 😭
Thank you! It’s all making sense. I’ve been asking for so long for something many people couldn’t answer.
I love your videos, Gracie! I just turned 64 and decided to pick up the guitar again after 30 years. I took lessons here and there when I was younger and when I could afford them, but they were nothing at all like what I have learned so far from watching just two of your videos. They are so helpful! I am taking notes from your white board so I can refer back to them. Oh how I wish I could have had someone like you to learn from when I was younger,. You are an excellent teacher and I truly appreciate your videos. I subscribed after watching the one you did about the circle of 5th. I don’t know at what point I will need to know that information since I’m starting out as a beginner, BUT when I do come across it in the future I know that I won’t be confused about it. Anyway, I just really want to thank you for being such a blessing in my life.
P.S. I just watched the follow-up video on the circle of 5th, so I’ve reached the point where knowing that information is useful to me right now while I am learning the major scales on the guitar. It’s funny because the follow-up video popped up right after I watched this one. Thanks again!
Hi Anne! Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely and thoughtful comment. It means a lot to hear how much you appreciate the videos and find them helpful. I wish you lots of luck on your musical journey as you continue learning more and more! Keep up the great work :) And thank you again for this kind and meaningful comment.

I'm super happy that I discovered your channel. I already know most of the theory exposed but these are the best music theory tutorials I've found. It's crystal clear, very interestingly put and presented. Even though I haven't really learned anything new (so far) what a pleasure to get back to the basics with such an amazing teacher.
