Excellent job. When I did mine, my little dashboard monitor could have 2 switchable video inputs, so I bought a tiny video camera and fitted it close by the reg. plate. Both are connected to an on/off switch in the cab 12v socket and not to the reversing light. So I have the tiny camera on all the time as a rear view mirror and switch to the brake light camera pointing down to the back step when reversing. It works very well. Keep up the good work.
Cracking job, well done Dad… I mean, team effort..! Very handy to have someone with great knowledge such as he, but you have your own too and you’ll be teaching him a few tricks as well with other parts of the build - you’ll continue to feed off one-another. Nice to have a project to work on and spent time in each others company. You’ve accomplished a lot in the day, might not look it but you’ve learnt the basic of wiring and the vehicle wiring looms - which there will be much more of that to come! Will be watching with great interest, fantastic work

I have a plan but definitely winging it. I’m sure stuff will come up as we go so I didn’t want to get too attached to a design. I know where things are going, to the exact mm? No, but I don’t really care. Go with the flow 😊 Dad is a legend. I’m a very lucky woman.

I'm looking forward to you both converting the van. Just to let you know, Dolphin also do a duel rear and brake light so you have basically an electronic rear view camera and reversing camera in one. I fitted one to Viv-I-van and its brilliant. When it goes into reverse I get the coloured lines telling me how close I am to what ever is behind me.. The duel camera will work with the screen or with the built in one on the van. Bessy regs-Kenny
Thanks Kenny! I did look at those but they were 50% more expensive again - my budget, as much as I’d like it not to, will require some sacrifices. I’ve been driving the van a couple of weeks now & this camera is spot on. I’m getting on great with it. Wouldn’t be able to reverse without it I don’t think 😂
Would rather see Shoddy Camera work as you put it lol because it gives a sense of realism to the video rather than a polished static camera angle which kind of makes video's a bit artificial in my view. Great video's so far I've subscribed and can't wait for more video's would love if the video's were a bit longer ,all the best of luck for the build.
Just a heads up when using piggy back fuses on some van models, if you choose the ABS fuse holder, the one that becomes live when the ignition is switched on. You could start getting ESP light coming up on the dash, or other warning Engine management lights. Great video I hope you have no issues with your dads brilliant electrical work. Stay safe. 😊

@@myvanworld I’m not a mechanic, or an electrician. Your dad did a great job, those piggyback fuses can cause a lot of different management light issues, if your cheek parking light issues started after fitting the camera it is definitely worth investigating. I would fit an on off switch to the reverse camera if I had the choice, it’s a little more work but worth it n my opinion. It’s a nice van and I’m sure you’ll have a beautiful camper. 👍🏻😊. Stay safe.
I install it by feeding power from the back, connected a wire to the reverse light to the camera and monitor. Just one wire and the video cable to the front.
Sorry just a query, if you took a feed from your reverse light for your camera why would you need to get another feed to power the monitor, that would mean the monitor would be on when your ignition is on showing no signal until it goes to reverse.. you could have connected the monitor power to the same place as u connected the camera to so they both come on when can goes into reverse, if that helps anyone also on the cable that runs through to conect the monitor to camera there is also a red wire you can use that wire to take power from camera to monitor 👍

I’ve watched Greg Virgoe’s video fitting the reversing camera, and found it a bit off putting. Watching you and your dad making mistakes but getting there in the end, makes the job seem achievable for an average diy van builder.

Ah job well done. 👏 I wish I'd had help when fitting mine the first time. I procrastinated over where to fit the live wire for a few days. I opted for the rear view mirror type monitor. It has an online fuse already fitted. I skipped the part where you use the fuse box which made it so much easier for me to get the job done. It's done now, no more reversing into people's cars 🫣😎

I am going lithium yes, 200amp hour battery. I have already sourced one, but thank you for the recommendation 😀

Ah job well done. 👏 I wish I'd had help when fitting mine the first time. I procrastinated over where to fit the live wire for a few days. I opted for the rear view mirror type monitor. It has an online fuse already fitted. I skipped the part where you use the fuse box which made it so much easier for me to get the job done. It's done now, no more reversing into people's cars 🫣😎
