    Paused your video numerous times along the way. Encountered years of white corrosion after I removed nut. Installed new cartridge & that red thing. Tried not to over tighten when I reassembled. Works great. Thank you.

    Thanks. Helped a lot. Here's a hint on how to remove the old washer and spring which may have been in there a long time and is stuck. Get the tool used for opening paint cans. They'll give one free at the paint stores. Works great. Bought the replacement washers and springs at the hardware store for $2.19. Beats paying a plumber 150 dollars an hour. Also, it's important to know that these types of faucets reverse the direction that the handle is turned when one reinserts the post at 180 degrees from where it was. Round faucet handles generally turn like any faucet, left to open, right to close. However, the wing type faucet handle has the right faucet (cold) reversed.

    My sink is exactly like yours, I took both stems out but I did not see no rubber seat with spring on either side only o-ring on bottom. My leak would come from the hot water handle side when opening the cold water handle, weird. Still leaks have to check kit at store, It seems everytime I go to find replacement parts for the particular piece I'm looking for it never seems to be easy if at all to find ever.

    • @TheOldkid888
      @TheOldkid888  6 років тому

      Hello The 1,
      The leak is coming from the o-ring in the cartridge itself. It is just a matter of removing the cartridge and and pushing the center stem out of the it. You will see an o-ring located on the stem. Replace the o-ring and you will be all set.

    I have a question would you please answer it for me I have a big tub like 40 gallon soaker tub it has a 4 inch centerset faucet on it it looks like just a bathroom faucet that you would put on a sink I was wanting to replace it but do I need to get something other than a bathroom faucet since most of those are like 1.5 GPM or get a new one and take the areater off of it or should I or do they make 4 inch high flow bathtub faucets

    • @TheOldkid888
      @TheOldkid888  10 років тому

      Hello steele829;
      They do make faucets similar to the ones that you have now as far as cosmetic goes, but they are no comparison to what you have there now.
      You are exactly correct when you mentioned the aerator. You can put an aerator on that will give you better flow or do a little tune up to the one that comes with the new set of faucets.
      To be perfectly honest with you; if these are the old style faucets; you should really try to get replacement parts for them as I have not come across anything that compares to them yet. You will be much better off in the long run.

    If this doesn't work, you then need to replace the cartridge, correct? I found Delta seats & springs kit for $1.50 in the hardware store.

    • @TheOldkid888
      @TheOldkid888  8 років тому +1

      +Juan Perez
      If the face of the cartridge isn't rough you should be all set.
      Usually the spring kit and seats solve the problem. If not then you replace the cartridge.
      You can look at the cartridge and almost tell if it there is mineral build up on them you should replace them or clean the face with a kitchen sink pad. This generally is all that is needed.
      Thanks for commenting and I hope the repair goes well for you! Al

    Would this be the same repair on a washerless Price Pfister bathroom faucet? Thank you

    • @TheOldkid888
      @TheOldkid888  3 роки тому +1

      Hello bellyisis,
      Yes. Most washerless faucets as they are called can be easily repaired with new springs and "washers"; which are used as seats that the stems push up against. Sometimes they are built into the cartridge if they are a single lever faucet such as Delta. But if you have a two handle faucet there is a good chance that springs and washers will make get the job done for you. If you contact the company they will mail you a free parts to make the repair as long as the faucet is not old. I am not sure how long the expiry is on the warranty, but I know they definitely do send parts free of charge in the mail.

    I live in an apartment. Do I have to shut the water off when doing bathroom taps

    • @TheOldkid888
      @TheOldkid888  5 років тому

      Hello Curbon Bel,
      Yes. Whenever you are making a repair to any plumbing faucet you must turn off the water. It could be possible that there are shut offs located below the faucet in the cabinet. I have seen in some apartment buildings separate valves for each unit. Hopefully this is the case for you, but have a look inside the cabinet before anything. But remember the water must be turned off before any repairs.

    • @TheOldkid888

      Hello Defiant Lion,
      If you over tighten the nut there is a possiblilty that the the handle would be harder to turn.

    I have watched 6 of these videos and still haven't found the one like mine. There is no rubber grommet, there is no screw in the top of the handle to take out that lets the casing lift off. It will not turn counterclockwise either!

    • @TheOldkid888
      @TheOldkid888  7 років тому +1

      Some handles actually come apart in two pieces and have no screw in them. I know Moen made them.
      The handle may come apart by holding the top of the handle and unscrewingvthe bass of it. Try turning the handle an eighth of a turn and turn the base of the handle either clockwise or counterclockwise to remove it.
      I hope this helps!
      Thanks for commenting and let me know how you get along. Al

      I tried that, I even downloaded the instructions from MOEN website, no luck. I eventually sent them an email explaining my problem. They are sending me replacement cartridges and hubs for both hot and cold. I can do whatever I need to get them off without worrying about defacing or damaging the pieces. That was really a nice end result.

    • @TheOldkid888
      @TheOldkid888  3 роки тому +1

      Hello
      Shahzad Akhund,
      If the faucet handle only has to make one quarter of a turn then it is a washerless faucet. If the handle has to make a few complete rotations to stop the water flow then it has a washer and seat.
      Hope this helps!

    Off is on and on is on.
    It kinda shuts off in the middle.
    Total junk and the water pressure is a joke, cant even rinse my razor properly.

      Ya? I got a moen faucet outside for the hose, it leaks out the top of some unknown plastic cover.
      The one in the bathroom, if I remove to water restriction, the valve wont shut off.
      low flow garbage.
      The plumber did a half ass job on the tub, I had to buy a reaming kit to dress the seat and fix it properly myself.
      Home repair people rip customers off.

      @TheOldkid888  7 років тому

      ᗒ╬ᗕ1112223333111ᗒ╬ᗕ
      What is leaking on your outside faucet is the backflow preventer. If a hose is left on and the temperature drops below freezing this is the first part of the valve that splits.
      If you remove the low flow aerator the water doesn't turn off? I am not sure exactly what is going on with your faucet. I have never heard of this before.
      What type of faucet do you have on the tub?
      Not every repair person rips people off. There are some shady characters out there, but most repair people are good at what they do.
