Probably my all time favorite Zeppelin song, although I love them ALL. The lyrics here are extraordinarily powerful, the orchestration brilliant as always, the vocals otherworldly as always. A perfect, perfect song. Thank you for doing it! Great reaction!
This song is a "deep cut" gem. To my knowledge, a hurdy gurdy is not used for the droning but instead it is Jonesy on synth and Jimmy using a bow on an acoustic guitar. I believe when Jimmy and Robert toured in the 90s for their "Unledded" tour, they had someone play a hurdy gurdy. I love how this song starts low, almost sinister, mysterious, reminiscent of a call to prayer or an invitation to witness from a far away location of time and place. The lyrical voice matches the drone until it switches to what feels to me, a cyclical groove until drawing enough power to lift one up and out to the light. It is truly ascendant. Both Robert and Jimmy thought this song very good, with Jimmy counting it his favorite from this album. There is an early version of this song on the expanded remastered cd set called "Everybody Makes It Through" which is vastly different.
On their mid-nineties tour, Page and Plant not only used the hurdygurdy bust also the Egyptian ensemble to great effect. I’ve watched several videos of this live from that tour, and they did a great job on the arrangement. As others have said, a deep cut gem.
It's a hurdy gurdy and a synth. You can see Jimmy holding a hurdy gurdy in the lakeside scene when his eyes turn red in The Song Remains The Same movie.
I'm not disputing the fact that Jimmy had a hurdy gurdy or that he could and did play one in his opening scene of TSRTS, however, according to interviews with the man himself, JPJ used a synth while he used a bow on an acoustic guitar for In The Light.
You’re Invigorating my love of Led Zeppelin again playing whole albums the way I used to listen to them - place the needle in the groove and listen to each track in order. And getting to those tracks that aren’t played very often, rather than the standard reactions that are all over the internet. Back in the day the track order and listing on a vinyl was a considered and thought through process , both for fitting the tracks into the 20-25 min window, and link them together sonically. Not sure where you are with your Rush reviews, but Permanent Waves is a masterpiece IMO, that needs listening to as a whole, like Pink Floyd Dark Side of The Moon.
@@GetSidewaysReacts I did watch the first Rush album reviews you did. But wasn’t sure if you’d done many individual tracks in the past. Weird as the Rush Army usually turn up all over, usually when YYZ (Rio) or Working Man (Cleveland) are reviewed 🙂🙂. Maybe try Working Man (Cleveland) to compare and constraint with Working Man off the first album, which IMO is an awesome straight rock album. It doesn’t have Neil’s cerebral lyrics but the guitar bass and John Rutsey’s drums are still awesome for the kids that they were.
another great song " in the Light " I love it, these guys are great !! Ahah The best of the Great. So marvelous band ,The Beethoven of rock. Pure Genius.
One of my favorite albums of all time!!! Saw them in '77 (Presence Tour) and it is still to this day the best concert. Other than Jones on a Synth Page is playing his Acoustic with a bow.
I saw Rubber Plant do this song on his Now and Zen tour. He had a band of young hotshots and he played some of my favorite LED ZEPPELIN songs like this one. I was blown away! I couldn’t believe he was doing them. It was pretty much my request list. Trampled Underfoot, Kashmir, Wanton Song, Rock & Roll, Immigrant Song etc. it was like watching the new LED ZEPPELIN.
Would love to see you guys react to John Paul Jones solo albums Zooma and The Thunder Thief and see what you think. It's mostly instrumental stuff but I think you'll be surprised.
Criminally underappreciated Zepic…stunning overlapping lead fills toward the end, perfectly synchronized around each other and with with Bonzo’s fills. I actually “hear colors” of firey orange, yellow and red when I take in this one…
This is a childish thing to say but when I was younger I avoided this song like the plague. It had what I considered an “evil” vibe. Like other Zep songs it has this haunting musical tone in spite of the lyrics. Sounds stupid now that I’m older. Now? Probably my favorite Zep tune. Love it!
I know obviously this is supposed to sound like folk music with the hurdy-gurdy but it almost has a science-fiction feel to it as well with the synthesisers
I might be in a group of one here but I always had a problem with the major key bridging chorus' in this song. The track is on point for the most part tho' the structure seems to fall apart in these bridging sections and RP's phrasings kinda flounder a bit for me. Maybe it's because Led Zep rarely dedicated whole chunks of any song to a continuous major key for a reason....but hey...each to their own.
This is one of those songs that is so underrated
Yeah,It's beautiful😊
Definitely but I also think that it's one of those tunes that take a couple of listens before you're able to fully appreciate it.
Probably my all time favorite Zeppelin song, although I love them ALL. The lyrics here are extraordinarily powerful, the orchestration brilliant as always, the vocals otherworldly as always. A perfect, perfect song. Thank you for doing it! Great reaction!
My favorite too .❤
No one is capable of making music such as this today. This is a historic band. Rockstars forever.
The transitions in this song have always amazed me. Possibly my all time Zeppelin favorite (if there can be such a thing).
Very uplifting song. “When love is pain it can devour you but you are never alone”.
Greatest band ever and its not even close!!!
I just love to watch DJ soak in Robert's voice. For 52 years I have felt the same. Never never gets old. Led Zeppelin Forever!
Absolutely one of their best songs 🎼🎸🎤
i LOVE the dark riff on this and the way it goes upbeat at the end. its a story

It was Nigel Eaton on hurdy gurdy for that tour. He used to be in a band called Blowzabella.

I think this was my second Led Zeppelin song I ever heard. Nice reaction.
Can't wait for Boogie With Stu and The Wanton Song
At 3:11 I feel like I should be sitting cross-legged on the floor of a room filled with black light posters, smoking weed, lol.

We've done a bunch of Rush songs but we've only done the first album as a full reaction. Surprisingly, RUSH ARMY didn't come to watch

Bagpipes has always been my analogy as well. I've always loved that sound
My favourite Zep song, flies under the radar … just a very solid song in the catalogue ..
The greatest rock album of all time. A masterpiece like no other.
"Everybody needs the light."
another great song " in the Light " I love it, these guys are great !! Ahah The best of the Great. So marvelous band ,The Beethoven of rock. Pure Genius.

The band of my life (again).. This song in the walkman (time) was epic.. Really one of my favourite songs from them.. So haunting!.
I love how this is a reaction...to a reaction.
=)

Fantastic song, so much to it, that's what made then great!!
Been waiting for a long time for a reaction to this song. Thanks big time.
Possibly my favourite Zeppelin song! :)

Good idea
Their music paints pictures with each note they play and I agree - these guys are great!!
Pretty good attempt at Bron yr Aur MCA, easy 8.9/10 😉
Definitely one of my all time favorites!!!!👏👏
I can’t believe this song didn’t warrant a ringing of the bell!!!
Most brilliant song ever recorded this is why I say they give Beatles a run for their money...
It sounds like the follow on to Kashmir with the middle eastern type of sound at the start of the track.
might be my favorite zeppelin song alongside when the levee breaks
it's a crime to put any band close second to this incredible and timeless band .
There's an early version of this song that has a more Halloween intro.
I love this song.
Great song. And the next group of songs coming up are all excellent including Down by the Seaside my favorite track on Graffiti.
This is one of there very best i love this tune
Criminally underappreciated Zepic…stunning overlapping lead fills toward the end, perfectly synchronized around each other and with with Bonzo’s fills.
I actually “hear colors” of firey orange, yellow and red when I take in this one…
"Zepic", well done 👍
Like I said before... it's got it all...
A toure de forcé of musical genius.
(At this point, Sam is helping Frodo to go on ....)
Another great one for your senses Bron-Yr-Aur😁😁

Homie on the right lookin' like a stunt double for Bill Ponderosa.
I know obviously this is supposed to sound like folk music with the hurdy-gurdy but it almost has a science-fiction feel to it as well with the synthesisers
i love all their music....this is a restful phantom of opera,,ish
You’ve got keyboards, synthesiser and the hurdy-gurdy all combined to make one creepy noise that just suits the song so well
This is not a hurdy-gurdy. Jimmy is bowing the guitar at the song opening.
The amazing JPJ!
in my top ten LZ tracks.
cant wait for bron yr aurialiidadi
JPJ and Robert, then Bonzo beating it, fan bloody tastic.
I hope u play boogie with stu!! I know it's a short song but so great
We do
People who play air instruments. I just can’t...
JPJ doing damage he is awesome
The Welsh don't say 'laddie'. That's the Scots. It's pronounced Bron ur our
Does blues-rock get any better than this? Definitely one of my favorite Led tunes.
Jimmy!
Bonzo drives this song!!!
I suppose if PSU pulls out a win this weekend, I'll be hearing from you.
its pronounced bron rar
Isn't this fabulous?
Just needs to be 10x louder

I think it's pronounced Bron E Or.
Too much!
Farfisa organ with a delay
song written by GOD
Well... come on
They opened a bible and interpreted the word of God beautifully
Such Fake reactions from DJ....
