    Side 3 was always my favorite - opens with "In the Light", closes with "Ten Years Gone"

    This track starts Off with Bagpipes 🦥 slowly droning. Followed by John Paul Jones playing an Almost Maudlin Lil Tune on the Synth Keyboards 🎹! But if I remember the Zeppelin interview on the Old David Suskinde Show. This was Based on a Lady who was a Family friend. And She had Recently lost her husband. Got so Depressed she Attempted Suicide! This was a Song of Inspiration for her. If you really listen to the Lyrics, When love is Pain , it can Devour You! Words that hit Hard!

    One of the most underrated rock songs of the entire era. They were so fertile with musical ideas and vision at this time.

    This is one hell of a song. A genuine timeless classic that only Zeppelin fans are aware of.

    One of three Zep studio tracks where Jimmy bows the guitar with a cello bow....the other two being Dazed and Confused and How Many More Times.

      Not on the studio tracks for either. Only live.

    This song had several working titles, most notably "Everybody Makes It Through" but also "In The Morning" and "Take Me Home". As someone else mentioned, Jimmy added multi-tracked violin bowed acoustic guitar to the opening to get that dry-sounding drone while Jonesy used a VCS synth. According to Jimmy, they always knew what the construction of song would be, however he had no idea Jonesy would craft such an amazing synthesizer intro. The beginning sounds almost like a call to prayer in the square of a far-off, ancient land as the synth notes snake in one ear and out the other to eerie effect. Then they lower the boom and it grinds into a gritty, slightly menacing groove from the depths of an almost sinister "somewhere". When the guitar comes in, it's almost like it gives the feeling of ascension; I definitely get the feeling of being lifted up out of the darkness and into the light. Zeppelin was never afraid to go to unexpected places. I don't think of one of their songs being "better" than others, just that it hits differently depending on your mood/atmosphere.

    On the remastered version of the CD, there is a companion disc and this song is titled "Everybody Makes It Through (In The Light)". The lyrics and music are a bit different but still really cool

    OI could’ve sworn I heard them do a version in Unledded or Page & Plant No Quarter Tour in ‘95 or ‘98. 🤔 they used a hurdy gurdy.
    I really wish John Bonham had listened closely to the lyrics when he found himself depressed. Robert said he wished Bonham had leaned on him like he had leaned (depended) on him after Karac’s passing. (can’t remember which interview of Robert Plant I heard that in) -I’m crazy about Zeppelin interviews!
    Wiki:
    The unique sound of the intro was created by Page using a bow on an acoustic guitar, as a backdrop to Jones' opening synthesizer solo.[5] The song is based on an earlier band composition titled "In the Morning".[6]
    Led Zeppelin also recorded an alternative version of the song, "Everybody Makes It Through" (In the Light) [Early Version/In Transit]". This version was released on 23 February 2015, as part of the remastering process of all nine albums. Led Zeppelin never performed "In the Light" in concert.[6]

      it's a super cool sound , kinda reminds me of possibly an oboe or something similar that's been phase shifted or something . Yea, as zosometalgod said there below, harpsichord...very cool sound 😉

    A great epic on an album full of them, I'd rate it just behind Kashmir and In My Time of Dying for the long epics on the double classic album Physical Graffiti. From the same album, do The Wanton Song, a sledgehammer of a banger and more evidence that they truly were the boss of hard rock. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

    That's Jimmy Page using his violin bow on his electric guitar to get that droning sound and all those are not bagpipes That's John Paul Jones on his keyboards and harpsichord

    Really good song. A relatively rare Zep psych song. But I think they could have ended it better than the fade out, a missed opportunity considering the creativity of the rest of the song.

    • @tobiasisback4605
      @tobiasisback4605 5 місяців тому

      Not sure about that, the fade out suits the trippy mood of the piece imo, can’t imagine an abrupt or definitive ending.

    • @36karpatoruski
      @36karpatoruski 5 місяців тому

      A much better fadeout would have been a return to the buzzy intro, maybe with a different tone shift, something heady. What they picked seems too easy, straightforward and poppy.

      Jones said it was impossible to play the song live with four people. I couldn't find any live recordings (not even Page&Plant), except Jimmy once played the riff in the medley, I think it was in concert at Dazed And Confused.
      Have fun with all kind of good music!

    For me the most unexpected, musically interesting song - all 4 members delivered their musical contribution, unfortunately incomprehensibly never played live, like some other gems - on the somewhat long, rather average DLA: the 3rd side was the most convincing. The live standard My Time Of Dying is another highlight.

    Love you brother. But please never relate the Beatles to the greatest rock band on planet earth, led zeppelin. The Beatles sound like a girl's bubble gum band compared to Zep. Lol. Until next time stay well, and popping for fresh.
