How to deal with bullying | Justin Wren - The Big Pygmy with Ed Mylett

  • "160,000 kids in the United States alone skip school every day because of bullying." These words were spoken by the legend himself, Justin Wren aka The Big Pigmy.
Only 20 - 30% of students who are bullied notify adults about the problem. That is why it is so important for those of you who are experiencing this nightmare to tell someone. And if that person doesn't listen then tell someone else. There is someone out there who loves and cares for you.
In this interview, Justin shares his first-hand experience of being bullied and how he overcame addiction and disappointment to become dubbed, "The Big Pygmy."
The real fight of his life began with his journey to The Congo where he helped negotiate the freedom of hundreds of enslaved people and launch sustainable farming initiatives including clean water.
He was called "Efeosa," which means "the man who loves us," and founded the "Fight For the Forgotten" a non profit fighting to empower those who don't have a voice - from the forgotten people around the world affected by the water crisis, to the bullied in our own neighborhoods and schools.
Join me in experiencing this powerful and inspiring interview about the fight The Big Pygmy fought every day outside of the ring and how he found his life's calling through God and servitude.

When I was 5 I lived in a apartment complex that had a lot of kids that lived in the complex. I used to get bullied by a group of kids they were in need of some love for sure. My mom signed me up for karate classes and I remember a few weeks into the classes I was outside playing in the field next to the tree line and the kid came up behind me and hit me with a stick. I immediately turned around and snatched the stick out of his hand and told him to knock it off and that kid never bothered me again. I think he was scared that I grabbed the stick so quickly out of his hand. I seen him years later and he still remembered me I could see it in his eyes. Nobody wants to mess with a Ninja though. Karate really tought me a lot about self discipline and how to protect myself and also how to resolve disputes quickly without using violence.

    Justin & Ed,
First of all, what an amazing and impactful video. I watched this twice I loved it so much. Thank you Justin for sharing such an inspiring video and also helping something amazing happen in my life. This is a 100% true story that literally happened today after watching your video.... while watching I kept thinking about my own passion in life of helping people and a blog I’ve been writing for months that I have yet to have the courage to publish. The blog is about inspiring others through our own suffering and experience but I never have thought anyone would take much away from my story. I was bullied and tried to commit suicide at 17 and not many people know that about me. I listened to your story about your vision of the forgotten and thought about it over and over and eventually said my own prayer asking God what he wanted me to use my passion for. I did not have a vision or any sort of “sign” but I know God works on his time not ours and I went about my day. I made my grocery list and went to the store. I got to the checkout and the young girl ringing me up looked at me and said “were you bullied in high school?” And I looked up at her and I saw her face which was sad and lost. And I said yes, I was” She said “did it ever get better?” And I said “they sure did. And I know they will for you too. Just stay strong.” I know it wasn’t much and I could have said more, but I was speechless. I My heart almost stopped. I walked out of that store with the biggest smile on my face and I said a thank you prayer because if it weren’t for you both and for this video, that would have never happened and now I am ready to take the plunge I have been avoiding for so long and publish my blog and begin the community I wanted to build for so long giving anyone a safe place to turn to when they feel lost or forgotten.
Thank you a million times over, I’ll never be able to repay you, but please know you made a difference in my life!

Justin Wren bro I felt this story so close. I attempted suicide in 7th grade from bullying. My parents didn't know how serious it was until my sister saw the swollen bruises on my back from getting punched in the bathroom by multiple classmates Ben was my bully through school. Justin Wren bro keep up the good work we need to let know how serious things are. Your story had me crying cause it hit so close to home and my name is Justin so it hit harder than ever. Thank you for sharing this with the world. After watching this I want to do the same as you. I still deal with bullying at 27yrs old. #fightfortheforgotten thank you again for sharing your story man. I hope 1 day I can meet you. That'd be awesome.

“THEY MISTAKE YOUR KINDNESS FOR WEAKNESS” best quote I’ve ever heard.... I still get yelled at every once in a while from Unstable over emotional people.. The Beaty of it tho is I now understand the WHY. Eckart Tolle brought it to my attention. I now just let it go, the BULLYS always fade away fast because generosity and kindness trumps everything in the end.

Justin and Ed, I’m so grateful to you both for openly speaking about this issue. I know exactly what Justin gone through as I similarly been bullied as kid, that shit stays with you for long time. When I suddenly get horrible flashback that takes me back to being in the 8th grade I often have to come back to this video with Justin to remind me that I’m not defined by that moment. Justin, you’re such a champion, in every sense of the word. I’m sorry what happened to you, but you are just a living embodiment of what it means to rise about it all and be a force of good. Also as a Jennifer myself, sorry about the Jennifer who was so cruel to you , we do not claim her lol. Hopefully she’s changed. But regardless, you’re an inspiration to me!

One that really spoke to me was, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, ever goes wasted!” That really spoke to me as did this entire podcast!! Psychologists did a study called, "The Kitty Genovese Experiment", about bystander apathy. It is a very interesting experiment about how bystanders of stuff like bullying or in that case assault all assume someone else is going to do something about it so they don't do anything. Bystanders of a kid being bullied should be aware that they need to be "the one", to do something and intervene. This is an amazing story of redemption.

I listened/watched this 3 times. What an amazing story. Justin, you said you had to help open the eyes of the Pygmies to understand the opportunities they have right around them. I think this is so profound really for us all. God has challenged me through so much hardship and every time I'm stretched, something new is born in me or created through me. I spent 6 weeks in Mongolia on a mission for Christ years ago. It wasn't the Congo but a very raw experience. America is SO blessed and yet we are blind an numb to it! In this season of Thanksgiving, THANK YOU Justin for the courage and love you were willing to step out and extend. THANK YOU Ed Mylett. I want to meet you one day Sir. You have been mentoring me through your amazing podcasts for the past year, often speaking to exactly what I needed to hear. There are NO other Christian leaders with comparable success that I've found who are willing to put out this much free help without it being a hook. You are and you interview leaders I want to emulate. I'm already envisioning you interviewing me and us talking about what an awesome God we serve. I thank God for you everyday Ed. Incredible is an understatement for the stories in this interview- Justin and his team are simply a hero's! The 'identity' description Ed talked about 32:30 really resonated with me (49:00, 54:00, 1:03:40, 1:05:00 1:13:00 also key- basically the whole interview!) and is really just so important for us all to understand. I really think it helps explain the 'un-happiness' we sometimes have even when things seem, on the surface, to be going so well.

Damn dude. The big Pygmy. Are you f’ing kidding me. This beautiful soul goes from literally getting bullied out of school to helping Congo people (Pygmy) obtaining water so that can live? Wow. Ed, this inspirational path I started one week or so ago with you and others are helping to place this soul on a trajectory of such promise. Not for me...for others. Reason>learning it’s about giving. Thank you!

Ed and Justin - such a powerful message and video! Thank you!!! I have been working with the high school students daily (and recently Jr High) to teach them more empathy skills within their school day. We need this so much in the curriculum at every school!! My challenge for them last week was when they picked teams to pick those FIRST that normally get picked last, and did a mini mental prompt on helping them understand how those that get picked last day in and day out feel. We had a few tears in a few classes. After watching this video today, next weeks challenge for them will be to eat lunch with a peer that they do not know and present what they learned about each other to me. #fightfortheforgotten #maxout @edmylett

Wow... @edmylett this was a tough one. I couldn't get past the first 12 minutes. It took 3 tries to get through it all. I was a victim of bullying till age 14 and as a parent, finding out one of my kids went through it in high school too this was heavy man, but I completely truly appreciate it. #maxout #results #bigvision#wfglifestyle

If anyone is listening to this and is going through a horrible time, if people are being horrible to you, #1 talk to your parents or friends if you can. True family and friends will help you. If you can't get the help that way, message me. I'm some random dude from Sydney, Australia, but God damn it, if some kid needs help I'll fucking fly over there and help you!

Wow Ed this interview is amazing, for some reason everytime I'm going through something you seem to hit a point that is a eye opener for me, I was recently hospitalized after collapsing at work unknown reason why , while I was in the hospital I develop lots of anxiety and depression not knowing what was going to happen with me, at the same time your book came in the mail for me my wife brought it over to the hospital, and I might say that Pages 56 and 57 have made me look at things different, anybody out there that is going through anxiety I will suggest you read Ed mylett book but really focus on pages 5657 super amazing, I would love one day to tell you Ed how much you have changed my life and the way I look at things, I can't wait to one day share my story with the world of how I overcame obstacles of losing both my parents at a young age and everyone telling me I was going to end up dead in jail, I will get rid of this anxiety soon and max out my life

I usually don’t post stuff like this but I am posting this in support of #mentalhealthawareness Month. It is the first day of May and I am encouraging everybody that follows me or reading this to speak out about #bullying and #mentalhealth issues. I’ve been bullied ever since I was in first grade. I have not only been cyber bullied but physically & verbally attacked at school(s) that I have attended and I am taking the step to spread awareness for bullying. Schools are not speaking out/protecting students from bullying. I am tired of being blamed for being bullied! I have been told to change the way I dress, and myself to avoid problems. I am on this earth for myself, not to satisfy others. Many people think my life is perfect because of my post on social media but people tend to forget that I, like many others are only posting my “best life.” Although I find it fun and entertaining to share my life I only show a portion of my life so please don’t compare your life to anyone’s Instagram life. I do not blame anyone for portraying a perfect life on social media because I believe in law of attraction and spreading happiness and kindness. Many times bullies #bully others because they are insecure with themselves or have problems going on in their own life. Instead of spreading hatred back to people who have hurt us the best thing to do is to reverse our hatred and spread positivity. I know this may be hard and I’m not asking everyone to listen because I myself am working on this. If you know anyone who is being bullied please don’t be afraid to speak up. Even if it is you, speak to someone! If anyone needs someone to talk to don’t be afraid to message me. I will no longer use my Instagram for just entertainment but to also spread #awareness on certain topics I feel strongly about. Throughout my experience in attending school I have been ignored about this topic and I have came to the realization that I need to take the initiative and stand up for not just myself but others who are struggling with bullying and mental health. Please feel free to message me. I would love to be trusted, and a helpful ear for you all. Soon you will hear my story #bullyfreeworld ❤️ wrote this and posted on my IG one time . Thank you #maxout🔥
