Round 2 of eating at Japanese chain restaurants is here!! Which restaurants should I showcase next time? 😋 ALSO, I have recently started a PATREON! If you are interested in supporting my channel, please the link here 💛www.patreon.com/seerasan
@@el_guapa There is a small subset of the population with pork-cat syndrome, pork allergies or people who just don't want to eat pork because pigs are very intelligent.
When I was studying abroad in Japan I used to go to Saizeriya ALL THE TIME. It is so good and so cheap. Haters can pry my buffalo cheese pizza from my cold dead hands.
MOS Burger is my husband go-to restaurant in Japan. He said he would love to bring the whole restaurant to US if he could. Anyway I LOVE, LOVE, LOVEEE when you say "itadakimasu" - so cute!
I just realized that you slurp your noodles when you eat. It's cool to see as it's the customary way to eat noodles as a Japanese person. Love the channel keep it up
absolutely my fav youtuber to date. you go girl!!! very honest, and useful content. Not like commercial and entertainment like others. Very unique. no BS
i just moved to tokyo near nishihara/ yoyogi-uehara and theres a komeda coffee i've been too the last few days for breakfast and to get some work done. i loved it there
Mos is a go-to of mine for lunch here in Sapporo, I probably go once a week on average. It's on the way home from the subway after morning language school, and convenience is kinda what fast food is all about, right? I love the basic pork cutlet sando set w/ "onion potato" and a melon soda (don't judge me!). Even with the soda upgraded to a large, it's only 1000JPY. Everything always tastes fresh.
Not to discourage anyone from trying anything at least once but be prepared for a whole different burger experience…in a not so great way. The meat almost tastes boiled if that makes any sense.
Aaaaah the mystery is solved! I'm sure you've probably mentioned it before, but I've noticed you tend to go with vegetarian dishes for preference, but occasionally in like the street food videos you'll eat meat. It's the pork you're avoiding, and having spent a fortnight in Japan I wakarimasu how tricky that can be. It's everywhere! I actually quite like pork, but it seemed whenever I was hoping for chicken or beef, it was barely on the menu, if at all in a lot of places. I somehow went the whole trip without finding a single chicken katsudon; it's my favourite comfort dish! Sidenote, just so happens I made it for dinner last night and I kinda nailed it *finally.* Sure makes a mess of the kitchen, though...
Saizeria's green bean salad is very delicious! Definitely worth trying. The pasta dishes are designed to be easy for Japanese people to eat, so they may not suit Europeans.
There was an Abroad In Japan episode where he went to Seizeriya and made it look so unappealing. I love your enthusiasm for it! it reminds me of a cheap diner in the U.S. called Denny's. Is it the best? No. Is it good? Also No. But is it there and open when you need it? Sometimes. Also that green drink looks pretty good! maybe you could've put the ice cream in it and made a weird cream soda.
"Soba" can be used as an umbrella term for noodles with medium thickness as well, which means that Udon is excluded because they are thick, and Somen is too thin. When Chinese noodles were introduced to Japan, they were called "Chuka Soba", which means Chinese noodle because they had similar thickness to Soba, and they eventually evolved into Today's Ramen. However, Spaghetti or any other Italian pasta with similar thickness have never been called "Italian Soba" or European Soba." So Western ones are excluded as well, I guess.
Good explanation I like it! Let me add couple more confusing ones. First one is Yakisoba (Japanese style Chow Mein). It comes with not buckwheat noodles but egg noodles. The second one is Okinawa Soki Soba. The noodles are made with flour like Udon.😘
Yes! Other broth options include shio, soy milk, shoyu & miso. But there may still be some kind of pork extract in some of them (depends on the restaurant). Otherwise, vegan ramen options in Japan are super tasty too!
Ginza Kagari Honten make sensational thick 'cream of chicken soup' style ramen. If you miss out going there, don't worry as they have a concession restaurant in Narita airport. Fantastic ramen if you don't like Shoyu, Shio, Miso or Tonkatsu style much. Also, you may like to do a search for Halal ramen; one of the most highly rated ramen joints last year was a Halal ramen restaurant, so you'll be just fine. 😋🍜
I found a place in Haymarket Sydney that does those Soba noodles. It literally changed my entire world. Can’t wait to see what they are like over there.
for anyone in america there's 2 ichirans in nyc, they also have vegetarian and vegan options. Word of caution, the spice level goes up to 10, but that isn't a sliding scale of 1 being mild, 5 medium and 10 spicy. They recommend level 2 which i would say is a mild spice and just going up to 3 is enough to get your nose running. The numbers represent how many SCOOPS of chili you get, not the spice level. Sadly lots of bad reviews from people ordering ichiran as takeout who don't understand their spice level. I recommend +1 rich broth, 1 clove garlic, extra green onions, and level 3 spice, best bowl of ramen in my life!
I think that most Saizeriya locations are moving to tablet ordering. Just came back from a recent trip to Tokyo and the last Saizeriya that we ate at was the one in Kichijoji, next to the Donki. It was nice to see that they're making the change to digital and going away from the paper ordering system. The digital system also came updated with an English menu, which is great for those that haven't quite yet mastered katakana.
I could not imagine being in a big city and getting a lunch or dinner sized dish for what is currently just under 7 bucks usd. Family restaurant looks like a diner, I wouldn't be surprised if that's inspired by American diners
I've been to MOS Burger and Saizeriya, but not the other chains. I'll have to try the when I get a chance. One thing I appreciated about MOS burger was that they give you ceramic plates and stainless utensils when you dine in and disposable for take out. There was a Saizeriya near my language school where I taught, so I often went there on my lunch break. There was also a Chinese chain called Bamiyan that I often went to. I remember the first time I went there thinking it was nothing like the Chinese food I got back in the U.S., which then led to me realizing that American Chinese food might not be authentic to China either. I think a lot of times, appreciating restaurants like these is managing of expectations. Good on you for being so open-minded about it, Sarah! I hope you'll review Doutor in one of your posts. I was quite fond of their chocolate croissants. I'm thinking maybe you should do one video focused just on family restaurants. That's a whole genre in and of itself! Denny's (We have in the U.S.), Friendly, Gusto, Royal Host... I think Jonathan's is a chain in the Tokyo area? I haven't seen any in the Kansai region, but I could be mistaken.
We had the pudding and tiramisu combo at Saizeriya and that was really tasty! You should have had either of those instead. Sorry about your gelato experience there 😬
Hmm, I don't know if it's still there but there was a Mos Burger place at Garden City in Brissie, might have to try it if it's still there the next time I go.
Yeah, there's one at Garden City, Sunnybank Plaza and Australia Fair still. I'm pretty bummed about the Brisbane CBD store closing down. It was a nice alternative to Maccas and HJs. A casualty of covid and WFH no doubt.
When Ramen arrived in Japan from China, it was first called "Shina-Soba". Shina was an older term for China, so basically "Chinese Noodles". But as time passed they went into just calling it Ramen.
Great video! Always like seeing your adventures and new discoveries. I wanted to say (I'm not 'Man-splaining lol) as a hair stylist of 35 years, that in the icon photo for the video it looks like you have a very well cut chin length bob with an amazing color. Just a heads up, even though this style is an illusion in the pic, you look amazing! Mature, cool, and extremely hip looking. Keep uo the great work! Love seeing Japan from the Western point of view.
It's actually been around for a while, but there's literally only one location right now in Osaka! Used to be one in Tokyo, but it shut down during the pandemic I believe 🥺
I was born in São Paulo Brazil. I was adopted and moved to the United States. Before being adopted I was given four countries that I could have chosen. Germany , Spain , Japan and the United States. had the United States not been a choice , I would have without a doubt chosen Japan. São Paulo Brazil have the largest Japanese population outside of Japan. So I have always had a love for Japanese culture , food and the people. Great video and thanks for sharing.
I remember watching a ジョブチューン show once ages ago (when I could still find them on YT), Saizeriya makes their money basically through lowering their labor costs. Operations are remotely managed and there’s very minimal staff. Cooking requires the workers to put everything on a conveyor belt (like the fast food pizza ones). And every recipe is calibrated to come out at the same time.
I tried the katsusando at Komeda's and it was really good. Ichiran Ramen was just average ramen for me, but it might have been because of my choice that day.
Japanese tourists and business people traveling to the US who want an American style breakfast ask for "morning service." Wait staff send them to the local church thinking they want to pray! Great vido.
The only chain restaurant I would visited in Japan is MOS Burger. Their Cheeseburger with beef (No Teriyaki) was the best. Orders are made to order, that means no infrared light keeping pre cooked food warm. This does mean that your meal will be very hot and needs a minute to cool off before you eat it.
Seera-san wins the endurance challenge for eating Saize without making the faces that Chris Broad did for his attempt at chain restaurants. Advantage, Australia!
Am of Italian descent...would definitely drink melon soda on the daily (if I wasn't trying to lose weight :P ). As for the rice dish, it's similar to a baked rice dish I've seen around before, but that dish didn't have white sauce on it (had grated parmesan instead).
My mother's maiden name was Moosburger, and there is a city of Moosburg in Bavaria near Passau. So when we went to Japan I just had to make a photo of a Mosburger joint. But we found our burger elsewhere.
I recognized, have tried and enjoyed several of these chain restaurants, and was happy you were enthusiastic about them, too! I honestly miss them and really wish some of them would open here near me. Like MOS Burger and Komeda. I kinda wish i had bought a mug the last time I was in Taiwan (They have a lot of the same chains there, too.) Saizeriya, I fear might flounder here in Cali, because there are already plenty of Italian chains.
Saizeriya has been the OG place for a good deal meal for me. I used to love MOS Burger a lot years ago, but its still just okay now, still worth it to try their speciality burgers and food.

Why can't you eat pork?

Been learning hiragana for the last couple months and being able to read ‘irasshaimase’ made me very happy!
Can you recommend an app for learning to write hiragana and/or katakana?
Big MOS Burger fan here! Loved the video, thank you!
The APA hotel I'm staying at next trip has a Komeda built in it so I am definitely trying out the breakfast set. Thanks.
Yes give it a go! I prefer Komeda's brekkie compared to most hotel breakfast buffets in Japan 😂

I really doubt that.
Same xD @@jamesgraham446
Its true. Japanese makes better italian food than the italians

The doria at Saizeriya is sooo good! 😊
Love these! Gets me familiar with chains so when I visit Japan I get an idea of what my options are! Thanks Sarah!
After watching this i feel hungry, Im writing down all these places for my next trip to Japan, Thank uu!!!
I had Mos Burger at Universal Japan. Really enjoyed it 😋
Awesome! Good location to have it at too!
I’m going to Japan just to eat! Love your videos!

I want all this! But that Rice Burger from MosBurger sounds really good
MOS Burger is 100% going to be among one of my first stops when I finally go to Japan. 😆
Not to discourage anyone from trying anything at least once but be prepared for a whole different burger experience…in a not so great way. The meat almost tastes boiled if that makes any sense.
モスバーガーは昔よりも美味しくなくなった
Nah MOS Burger highkey sucks. There’s much better burger joints
Listen, Sarah. good job. i really had fun watching you do things and go to places that I would like to visit.
Love them up-close ramen shots. Ooh that Ichiran tho.

Saizeria's green bean salad is very delicious!

The pasta dishes are designed to be easy for Japanese people to eat, so they may not suit Europeans.

The Mos Burger is delicious, but the FRESHNESS BURGER is also recommended.
I'm a big fan of Freshness Burger, too. Love their thickly cut fries (or chips).

The Abura Soba looks amazing. Noodles without broth is a nice change of pace from ramen
Ramen is also called as Chinese soba (中華そば). So, Japanese call it just simply soba sometimes.
