Present! Another chill vid to make my day. Thank you as always! Also…..inflation is such a problem and I hope the economy would improve for all countries.
Inflation is a problem everywhere except for China. To make things worse, the Yen is losing value rapidly & showing no signs of stopping.
I love these types of shopping and cooking videos! I noticed that a lot of what you bought was packaged small compared to the US- but as a single person I think I’d prefer it. Groceries are pretty expensive here too.
Agreed. Based on how expensive each and every ingredient is, it may seem more feasible to eat out instead
It is getting to the point where buying ingredients to cook will come close to the price of eating out. Of course, it would be healthier as you control the ingredients that go into your meal.
Japan supermarket is a heaven to me... especially those delicious bento!
Not a heaven to your bank account if you like FRESH raw fruits/vegetables
I'm so excited to find this channel. I'm just learning Japanese and it was wonderful to pause your videos and try and translate packaging labels! Also Vegetarian\Vegan coking! WOO
love seeing you challenging lots of dishes!
Thanks for taking us grocery shopping with you
Thanks for sharing how fun it is to go grocery shopping in Japan! 😆😆😆😆😆😆
I literally voted for this in your poll yesss!!!! So happy to see this in my feed today and it's so great you're hecka responsive/engaged with your fans. Let's gooooo
Thanks for voting 😆 ✨ Of course! It's super fun engaging with this awesome community 💞
Love the summer vibes with the Suika Bars and Hanabi sets in the store! Really hope you are able to bring us along some summer festivals in the coming months, since I always envision those as Japan at its best. Back on topic though: Was real fun seeing how different grocery shopping is in Japan and trying out simple recipes with you. 😊
Oh man YES! I am sooo ready for Japanese summer content!! 🍉
Wow!! Your miso udon soup looks delicious. It definitely looks aesthetic. You did an amazing job! I love your video :)
😇😊
Save yourself money on herbs. Just grow them. It's super, super easy. As for the daikon, turn it into do chua (Viet quick pickles, awesome for sandwiches and salads). Onions, I go through at least 4 per week, but it depends on what you cook. Yogurt is also easy to make. Buy Greek yogurt and some milk. Mix and let sit in your oven. You can repeat the process ad infinitum to make endless yogurt. Olive oil is expensive because of the olive shortages in Europe. Most producers are also hoarding their yield to keep the price high.
Love checking out supermarkets when I visit Japan. Wish I could read more of the names of the items.
Very relatable haha I still feel like I don't know half the products in the supermarket!
I love this type of video ideas
Loved this vlog! Thanks for sharing 😍
I see the "Cooking with Seerasan" Channel is coming soon^^
in diesem Sinne
"Bread for the Breadgirl"
Pre-sliced cabbage must come in handy for okonomiyaki
Exactly! It's sometimes worth grabbing it for those dishes!
このビデオよかった。日本のスーパーを紹介してくれて、日本人の日常の食品を紹介してくれてうれしい。そのあと料理コーナーになるのが新鮮😊
Thanks for sharing your shopping trip & your recipes, I’ll definitely be trying them 😊
I loved the video, I'm definitely trying some of those recipes!
I will have to try and find that Deep Fried Tofu.
Hope you can find it! It's tasty when you pop it into the toaster too & enjoy it with yuzu ponzu! (I know that sounds weird, but a Japanese family taught me this trick!!)
I'm excited to try that udon recipe, it looks so yummy! and easy to make 😍
Really enjoyed this video! I love seeing and going to supermarkets/grocery store in other countries. You wern't too fast. But would love to see more!
Tasty recipes! Must try. Hope I can get some of the sauces. 😋 Great video.
Nice food shopping and cooking tour!
Loved seeing the grocery haul and then also the meals/recipes. I love tofu but my husband isn’t a big fan. Those lettuce wraps would be a great lunch for me
Thanks for watching 💞 If you can get the tofu texture & flavouring right, I find people can't even tell it's not meat sometimes! Hopefully you can get him on board with tofu
I so enjoy going shopping with other people. This is so fun.
Olive Oil has doubled in price here in Australia too. I have been frying in Rice Bran Oil and using Olive oil to dress salads. I loved your supermarket vid! I miss food shopping in Japan x
this is so helpful actually. i'm gonna be studying in japan for 6 months starting this autumn, and trying to figure out my grocery budget!
Just got back from Tokyo and am missing all the yummy food already! If you're ever near a Takashimaya (we loved the one in Shinjuku), it might be fun to do a video on all the awesome foods they have in the basement and also the crazy expensive strawberries, melons and other fruit!
Love it!
Pro knife-holding tip: use your thumb and index finger to hold the blade while the rest of your hand grips the handle!
and put a damp cloth under your cutting board to prevent it from moving around. Safety First!
@@oringal oh, that's clever. Will try this next time, too.
Loving the grocery videos! You’re actually helping those of us who are missing Japan and further educating us on what to look for when we nervously hit up the overwhelming Asian grocery stores here in Australia!!
動画大好きです! 本当にありがとうございます🫶
I really could watch you shop groceries for hours haha
Perfect editing!
That was a fun trip to the supermarket 🙂. I liked the prepared meals you could get at the ones in my old Japanese neighborhood. Saved a lot of time and money. These prices didn't feel too different from where I'm living now in the US. Some things are more, and some things are less expensive, so it kind of balances out. The dishes you made all looked great! I'll have to try making some of them. I think I can get most of the ingredients here, but not in such great variety. I think most stores here have one, two, or three max varieties of tofu, for example. Same deal with miso. The local Whole Foods actually carries daikon, which I was happy to find. I used to make Caspian Sea yogurt at home. I remember my local Japanese markets carried it and you can actually just add a little to milk to start a new batch. It's a type of yogurt that you can make at room temperature, so it does't require any special equipment and is easy to make.
My favorite way to prepare natto is mixed with a little soy sauce, a quail egg, and chopped spring onions 👌.
Thanks for another fun vlog!
All the prices in Japan are so much cheaper than the US. 😭 Those giant container of strawberries would cost us $8 right now in Seattle. So jealous of how beautiful the produce are!
Man, that’s rough. I went to Seattle last year before an Alaska cruise and it was pricey. I live in the Northeast and those strawberries would cost around $2.50-$4 a lb, depending on the store. I found the Trader Joe’s in Queen Anne near our Airbnb to have reasonable prices for the area. I actually looked to see what strawberries cost at that location it says $3.50/lb for non organic.
We want to see more cooking courses. I can teach you knife skill when I'll be in Tokyo in summer
love this video
excellent I have some udon in my freezer so that's my dinner tonight taken care of 😂 thanks for the recipe
Nice! Hope it tasted good 😋
That cooking video was really intriguing, showcasing some truly unique recipes. While radish is a common ingredient in oden, I suggest giving "buri daikon" a try at least once. It's a special dish beloved by many Japanese.
とてもユニークなレシピでの料理動画で大変興味深かったです。大根はおでんでも代表的な食材ですが、一度、”ぶり大根”に挑戦するのをおすすめします。日本人は大好きな逸品です。
super interesting thanks for posting
I love that you're making cooking vids! That's awesome, especially since everyone needs to start reducing eating out so much due to inflation. One suggestion: the reason you're finding it so difficult to perform knifework is that you're seated, and your targets are at chest-level, instead of hara-level. Maybe consider standing when using your knife, or get a cushion or sitting pad to elevate your arms when you're wielding your knife? Did you ever get any of the houchou from your trip to the factory?
I find cooking at home costs me more than eating out 😂 but I prefer home cooked meals, so it's worth it for me!
I have noticed standing up is a lot easier! I sadly didn't get any knives from that factory, would love to get some new ones in the future though 😍
That's awesome! One final note: perhaps try Worcestershire sauce for a bit of umami in your misoshiru if you don't like dashi. Also, Worcestershire sauce + ketchup + honey = Tonkatsu/Okonomiyaki sauce (aka Bulldog sauce)! I hope to see tons of new cooking vides from you!
15:20 daaaangg that looks good!!
So fun! I'm so happy grocery shopping with you! Awesome!
I understand with feeling sad about grocery prices. They’ve gone up so much here. Your haul would be a steal though over in the US. $30 for all that is amazing!
You look adorable on your kiki’s delivery chouchou.😍
Love these type of posts. I’m going to try making miso soup. Can you please do a convenience store haul ie. your fav sandwiches or onigiri? 👍🏻
So impressed that you actually eat and seem to enjoy natto hahaha
This was the first time I watched you. Interesting enough to subscribe and even try some of that. I do make Miso soup in a similar fashion. I look forward to your next video. 😋
My favorite part of shopping at Japanese supermarkets are the 6pm bento discounts and the shokugan (candy toy) Gundam figures. In LA we have Nijiya, Mitsuwa, Seiwa and Tokyo Central markets.
The basket trolley/cart thing looks so handy... my grocery stores need to get with the program and get those! Oh man that S&B chili crisp stuff is freaking addictive addictive!! I only wish it came in a bigger jar lol. The dishes all look so good and I really want to try the cucumber juice, that sounds perfect for summer. Also your sparkly chopsticks are so cute! ✨ Thanks for the lovely video!
Cries in Canadian food prices!!! 🥲!! Also great video thank you!!
You're so stinking cute. I loved seeing a full fledged grocery store since I didn't need to experience that while there. I, of course, want to move there, so I love to see this stuff so I can fantasize I am moving there soon. LOL
匠miso is my favourite, ingredients are simple
Heyyy that intro and music was awesome, you should lean more into that style 👍😁
Thank you for telling us all the prices, these are the details I want for my trip !!
Do you take advantage of the sushi tray markdowns after 1700hrs ? Perhaps you're Vegetarian ?
Great idea adding Gochujang to Pasta. I make spiral pasta with a spicy Croatian Capsicum Vegetable relish by the Podravka company called Ajvar. You can only get it sometimes from a Giant Foodland store in Adelaide.
I'm a simple man. I see a seerasan video, I click like.
I second this comment!
Thanks for sharing this video on your grocery haul!
Just watched your video and it was amazing. You can substitute Hoisin sauce with oyster sauce. We had that in Singapore but I always substitute with a vegan oyster sauce that taste about the same. Gonna try your recipes. They are so cool. Cheers from Singapore 🎉
Garlic ra-yu sounds amazing, I wish that was avaliable over here.
紹介してくれてありがとう😊
Waaa please tell Tokyo Treat Box to ship to Canada. We want!!!
As a Heavy Lacto-Intolerant Person, japan is Heaven for me.Greetings from Germany
The cucumber juice sounds really good. My favorite sports drink is the cucumber lime flavored gatorade, so I bet it has similar vibes. Also, I wonder how that spicy chili condiment you bought compares to momofuku chili crisp? It looks similar but that's the only kind I've been able to find locally. It's great in ramen and I also add it to my gyoza dipping sauce lol.
I moved to the states last year because my husband works here and I found this channel ❤️🥹🫶🏼 already miss Japanese groceries!!!!🥹🥹🥹 my American husband loves Japan too we probably move back to Japan !!!🩷🤣
Nice choice shopping and cooking 👍
quinine so yummy 👅🫶
A worth watching video🙂
thanks this is helpful,!
I'm Japanese living in Australia. I'm gonna try the miso udon dish! That looks good :)
Yesss! It's such a tasty, simple dish!
If you have some space I recommend planting your own herbs: Mint, rosemary, basil etc. They are so easy to grow and will produce more than you can ever use. And before the cold season you can dry and preserve them!
Ahh I would love to do that, but since I travel so much for work anything I ever try to grow ends up dying so fast 😢
Lots of groceries my friend done every thing my friend have a great day
That was so fun to watch. I love your videos. Supermarket produce doesnt look anything like that here in the US. Atleast not where I shop. 2 floors, so cool.
Hey Seerasan! Good vibes in your videos, I enjoy them after a long workday. Quick tip: You mentioned extra firm tofu and that you are ok with "plain" flavors... how about getting a Tofu Press? I struggled🙄 as well finding firm tofu, but now with the press I just have it ready every single day and add any flavor I want! 🤭. Hope your every day is a great day! 😊
Wow Sarah your consistency is amazing! Its really nice, but also take good care of yourself please!
Thank you 🥹💞
So enjoyed watching this video. What are the supermarket chains in Tokyo and where would you be able to find them? I'll be heading to Japan this year for a holiday and would really love to go supermarket shopping 😊
damn, it must be tough cooking here... good on you for still doing your best cooking!
Do the frozen udon noodles taste better than the packed "fresh" ones? The fresh ones I get do always taste sour
I am Japanese. Frozen udon is one of the best Japanese frozen foods. Please try it.
How are those punnets of Strawberries so perfect, I cant remember the last time in OZ, I have ever seen a perfect punnet.
Such a mondaine activity, yet so informative as an oversea weeb ! THANK YOU 🧡🧡🧡
I saw at least two of my favorite teas that I have imported every couple months… cost me much more than 8 bucks lol. Also if you’re gonna try mapo tofu, Mike Chen had my favorite recipe, Aaron and Clare have a really good one too!
The basket trolleys are the weirdest thing about grocery shopping in Japan! We carried the basket around for 3 shops until we noticed everyone with the trolleys! 😂 Also Max Valu is the best supermarket because they play the grooviest jingle.
I often still just grab things in my hand (no basket) when I'm only buying a few items (old habit)... but at checkout the cashier is always so confused by me not having a basket lol
@@seerasan relateable! Off topic, but did you find an editor? I was thinking of applying back in Feb, but got busy! It was cool to edit with your media though! 🙂
There is so much tofu woooow. I expected strawberries to be pricey but they seem reasonable. That udon looked so goood!!! As a I recall you seem to favor/like Udon way more than Ramen right?
There really is a lot of tofu here! 😆
I do prefer udon!! My ranking is probably: Soba, Udon, Tsukemen then ramen haha
I haven't bought many sauces yet ever since I started living here in Tokyo, but that chilli oil looks dope!
Gonna go buy one soon.
You won’t regret trying it! 🌶️
It's true that even we Japanese find chili oil irresistibly delicious!
Can wait to Japanese grocery shop hahaa
leftover daikon you can make pickled kimchee daikon.
Ooo I should give that a go! I still have a huge amount leftover in my fridge 😂
Excellent cooking skills. Please do more videos.
Seems to be some places in Australia with air-freighted stock these days for the premium Asian supermarkets. A bunch from Japan too.
In case you're wanting to save on yogurt, it's REALLY easy to make at home with just milk and some starter yogurt, especially if you've got an instant pot. I usually make some when I can't get through my milk fast enough.
I might need to look into this, sounds right down my alley!
Great idea showing us the cooking as well as the shopping after you asked us to vote on a topic. Question though: did you sit because you were filming? It looks so awkward…. I don’t think I could manage a knife very well. Maybe when I am too old to stand I will, but for now I’ll keep standing in the kitchen.
The prices are similar to those in Germany. The packaging is also similar, although in Germany the fruit is not packaged as heavily.
here in the Philippines theres a lot of dishes that has coconut milk, which are the best IMO
Yogurt is super easy to make yourself!
Tofu❤❤
I don't know why I am interested in your groceries, but I am.
Hi, seerasan. Bulgarian yogurt is popular because it has an authentic taste.
If you're rinsing yourself on greek yoghurt you could look into making your own. You only need a spoonful of leftover yoghurt and some milk. Then the unlimited yoghurt cycle starts.
Absolutely! Easiest is to just buy a yogurt maker, they are like ¥5000 everywhere. For the price of 10 greek yogurts you can get an unlimited supply :-)
I will need to look into this! Thanks 😊
I like your clear chopsticks, where did you get them??
Thanks! I bought them at Mikura in Asakusa/Kappabashi area
I recognize the Life supermarket in Shibuya!
8:41 WHERE DID YOU GET THE GLITTER CHOPSTICKS?!?! ✨️🥢✨️ I love them 💖
You should have a cookbook.
I think I threw up in my mouth a little at that cucumber juice 😂
Man I absolutely hate cucumbers lol.
Shame about that sour greek yoghurt. Visually the dessert looked very good in the clear glass 👍🏼
Another fun video, thanks for taking us shopping Sarah ❤
You might have better luck at costco (if you have one close) for Greek yogurt. That's where expats get it in Seoul. The membership for Costco is half the price in Korea than in the US.
